hi guys. i have an Xperia arc s, rooted and with v6 super charger. it currently has a build number 4.0.2.A.0.42 and i suddenly got an icon on my tray telling me to update it to 4.0.2.A.0.69. i believe root will not work once i update it so i don't want to proceed with it and mess my phone. any idea on how to remove the icon as its annoying and i really dont want to update it. thanks!

Root must work even after update..only if you use OTA update. [update it through wifi, not through SEUS,PC]

It must not.But on the other hand,i cant take any responsibility for the consequences. Its better to make a nandroid back up before trying to update.
And if you have a working wifi internet connection, then it wont ask you to use PC Companion.

just go to the list of your apps and you should find something called update service or system updater, or something like that. then, if you only have the free version of titanium, then i recommend backing up that app, then uninstalling it.
reboot your device and the update sign should be gone from status bar.
and as you have made a back up, if anything goes wrong, or you want to update, you can restore
Yes.. U just have to uninstall the app called "update centre"..
I used Titanium Back up to uninstall it

Just remove UpdateCenter.apk from /system/app and reboot your phone. You can back it up and restore it in the event you wanna do a new OTA update.

Hi all. I am Xperia S user, I've just rooted and installed Pure Cynagenmod and before i rooted my phone and installed the custom rom, i back up all of my stuff via pc companion, the back up file is still on my pc, but when i tried to reach that back up folder in order to get back my contacts, pc companion gives a back up error which says " during the back up process the content of your phone may be ruined but your back up on your pc is okay, restart your phone and try back up process again" I did the same as in the explaination but it didn't work. So i will be really grateful if someone has a knowledge about that problem and helps me. Thanks in advance.
Dude,
PC companion will not restore as you have a custom ROM.
You will need to flash back to stock then restore your data.
Back up your contacts using Google or one of the many other ways.
Then install your ROM again.

Thanks a lot for your reply
As you told me I flash back to stock ( 6.A.2.45 ) and restore my data.
I back up my contacts using Google.
Now I'll install a custom ROM.
Do you have any suggestions?
Buddy,
If your boot loader is unlocked I would say fxp cm10.
If it is locked try xzx.
But read everything about the ROM before you install

My boot loader is unlocked, i had all that process last night.
I would go for XZX but you according to you it won't suit my boot as it's unlocked.
I read many things till I decided to customise my phone, thanks to God we have xda
i would say PAC 22 themed v3 i love it! and for backup use titaniumbackup, superbackup and myphoneexplorer

ok,ive got Titanium Backup, ill do that. thanks guys.
I bought myself a Nexus 4.
Now i'm trying to move everything from my current Desire HD.
Data like pics , music and so i'll just do manually trough pc , contacts i exported to SD and then imported them in Google , apps go trough play store and for text i'll use an sms backup app.
The problem is app data and settings.
There are some backup apps that can do it but they either require root or abdroid 4.0 and up.
My DHD is stock and unrooted , so my question , is there another option , way around it , very easy root method or whatever lets me backup the app data and settings ?
You need root and titanium backup.

Is there an easy way to root ? (doesn't need to be permanent i guess)
If you tell us which version of android you have we can advise you better...
Before rooting, Maybe you could try using "js backup" it's supposed to be able to backup without root, but, I've never not been rooted while using it, so can't be sure how good it is.

Yeah , my bad
(just assumed it was , as in stock has latest update)
Came across Carbon App Sync and Backup while googling solutions.
It is the predecessor of Helium and it should work for GB to (helium requires 4.0 or up).
Found the apk for it but can't open it on my phone , it says " prblom with pasing the package " , what does that mean ?

My backup pro does backup without root. I have never used it so, I can really know how it works but I know that works without root access.

Unrooted = no way to backup ...
I thought that only happens when you run a RUU. Can someone confirm?

I use my backup pro. Its way simpler than titanium backup, and there is a free version but I paid for the pro. My backup will nack everything up for you but if your not rooted then it isnt able to access the app data so cant back it up. I dont think you will be able to find a solution without rooting. When I rooted I used the AAHK which is no longer available on xda as the dev fell fell out of love with them but can be found through google.

What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.

When I long press, I see "App Info" and when I press it, it shows Google Play Services.
When it is disabled, does the update go away, or is it still on my G3 waiting to be installed?
Anyone know how this happened? I'm rooted, with custom everything, and I have OTA updates disabled!
I'm doing a TWERP backup anyway.
