I got a notification in my task bar saying that an update is available. when i tap on it i have to update via PC Companion.
unfortunately every time i try i get an error message saying:
"Unable to install or start phone software update components".
i managed to get hold of SEUS but that also fails both update and factory reset and update. Repair using PC companion gives the same error message.
anyone any ideas?
thanks

try re-installing the program.
Btw,which firmware you use now?
I'm currently on .42 UK hoping to update to .62.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both pc companion and seus but no joy. I've even tried resetting my phone to factory settings.
If your bootloader's unlocked you shouldn't use seus. If you're UK then there's a .58 in the dev threads, same baseband. .62 is an hk firmware.

Pumphandle,if you got your phone unlocked via setools, what ever you do dont update via ota....it will lead to a bricked phone,it happened to me.
With unlocking via setools it appears to seus and PC campanion to be locked so you can update with them, but bootloader is open.

Thanks for the response guys. Forgot to say also I'm rooted. Not sure if this will have any bearing on this.
Here's .62 for flashtool http://www.mediafire.com/?6fs6iry9spv78mb
Once flashed, fastboot dooms kernel to get root again

Hi all, as the title suggests... I think i've bricked my arc or done something incredibly stupid to it.
It currently gets stuck on the sony ericsson screen and shows no sign of booting up.
Firstly I unlocked the bootloader and all went well, no issues were detected. Afterwards i tried to root the phone following instructions from another site using fastboot and system_bin4ry.img
Using command prompt i followed the tutorial and no errors came up, the command prompt gave a success message.
Somehow im left witht he phone stuck on loading up and have no idea how to fix it.
I have tried using the update service with no joy, sony ericsson pc companion wont recognize it and flashtool didnt work.
Has anybody got any ideas?
Greatly appreciated if you have.
Update, using flashtool and the stock firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204302 I was able to flash it back to the stock firmware.
Thanks anyway guys.

Peace.
I guess I'm really having a BAD BAD luck this week
my phone got sort of bricked the other day.
It won't boot. it's a white r800i btw from HK bootloader unlocked
first I was trying to factory reset the phone. but it won't, nothing happens when I press that darn button.
then. tried flashtool to flash the latest R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic firmware. it didn't went well and I was really shocked! it's the first time. been flashing this thing for months now. then tried it again and still no go. tried another firmware and still nothing. then tried .368 firmware and it wen't well with wipe. I pressed the power button. after se logo on splashscreen i saw a big exclamation point. wondering what that maybe. then the phone shuts itself down. then I tried relocking the firmware to try my luck with seus. thought it'll fix my phone cause it flashed a downloaded file but hey it did not. seus said there was a problem flashing the phone and I wish there was a log telling what went wrong.
tried re-unlocking and then flashed .368 again it boots up but gave me low space issue. made my way to fastboot and did a command ( fastboot -w ) and I got an error about bootloader saying 2158 bad blocks were encountered :S
now I relocked my bootloader to try my luck again with seus but after reinstalling and rebooting my pc It says that I have the latest version and yeah pc companion says that too!
then went to unlock the bootloader again but now it won't unlock! it says can't unlock oem or something at the end and flashtool won't flash any ROM now including .368 I get an error msg everytime when flashing kernel.sin
tried flashing via fastboot but I can't it says phone need to be rooted first!
boooooooooooooooooy. I just don't know what to do anymore (
I love this phone badly that Ive been up for 4 straight days trying to figure out something about this. tried asking for help from alejandrissimo and he asked me to invite him on gtalk. did that and asked jynx13 too. alejandrissimo and I have a BIG time difference. Hope he can help me out. or jinx. jinx is trying to help me out bit by bit. but still no dice
now even worse things happen. can't flash anything via free software
I just hope it's a bootloader problem and can be fixed with alejandrissimo's remote unlocking and fix
bricked r800i

Hey guys
After having a look at some custom roms for my Xperia Play R800i, I decided to try and install Cyanogenmod 9.0. After a long and stressful ordeal, I managed to root the device, install Clockworkmod Recovery, and flash the rom. I wasn't happy with this rom, so I flashed ICX. After being dissatisfied with this also, I decided to return to the stock rom, using Flashtool and Xperia_Play_Release_Generic_UK.ftf. When I went to update to Android 2.3.4 using the Sony Ericsson PC Companion software, it said that the phone contained modified software which could not be updated. Thinking this was an error, I re-flashed the ftf file, then tried to download the update through the Software Update option in the About Phone settings menu. The update seemed to be going fine, but soon after it began, the phone simply switched off. Now, when I press the power button, the phone vibrates, but does nothing else. It doesn't even get past the black screen. I viewed some similar problems on the Sony Ericsson support site, and they all advised use of the Update Service program. Once again, I was told that my phone contained modified software and therefor couldn't be updated. I also tried to flash the ftf again, but my phone is still as unresponsive as ever.
I imagine that the problem is to do with the software that is currently installed on the phone, and that it needs to be removed/replaced for me to switch it on. However, I can't know for sure because I can't switch it on.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm desperate to get my phone working again. Any and all suggestions would be useful. Thank you in advance
Ya... not supposed to FOTA on unlocked bootloader, it bricks you. As you've seen SEUS doesn't like locked bootloaders so the only way to use it again is to relock the bootloader. Unfortunately in order to do this you need to flash the relocker, which is a .ftf, which you can't do because your phone isn't recognized by flashtool. I dunno, you don't have a lot of options here, but lets lay them out:
1. Get into flash mode and recover via either a .ftf or use it to relock your bootloader so you can use SEUS
2. Get into fastboot and boot or flash a kernel or recovery. You could try flashing a CM7 kernel and installing its .zip
3. If nothing else works your only other option is to turn here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322827
This is what happens when you use official Sony update service with an unlocked bootloader.

Sorry to be a pain, but do you have a link to the specific .ftf I need to relock the bootloader?
Actually, ignore my last post. I Googled it and found the file quite easily. I flashed it with Flashtool and everything is working perfectly. Thank you so much for your help BuckM. You saved my phone
Here you go. I wouldn't bother relocking though. Just flash the ftf file that you want.
You will find them here.
Beaten too it by OP
d31b0ys right, you don't really NEED to relock your bootloader, its just an option to get SEUS working again. That being said keep in mind you can reunlock your bootloader again at any time using the same unlock code as before, just try to be a little more careful
did you try to pull out the battery then put it back, then hold the search buttion (wile the phone is still off) then put in the usb cable? if done correct your power buttion will turn blue. then download a stock .tft for your phone and flash with flashtool. this unbricked my phone
Hi all,
Before I had CM10 installed on my LT26i. Then I have installed the prerooted JellyBean software from DoomLorD. The phone started lagging a lot after a while, I had a factory reset on it a few days ago. When I tried to install my apps&data back which I have backed up from Titanium backup app an error occured. And it was saying the phone needs to be restarted. I did, but now the phone doesn't boot. After xperia logo it starts bootingg just for a few seconds and then freees and turns off. I can't get into recovery mode. Tried to have it on fastboot on Windows 8, but it says unknown device.
What procedure I should follow now ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

if i were u, i will re-lock the bootloader and save your phone with update service
update service will probably put your phone into .200 rom
then flash it to .211 rom yourself and root it with the doomlord kit

Did u have correct drivers installed on Windows 8?
Ok, first of all, I have been searching these forums and google all day, so please at least consider reading my question.
So today I decided to finally update my Xperia Arc S to Jelly Bean with CyanogenMod. I own this device for 2 years and all I have done hack-wise was rooting it.
And what the problem is? The update failed, and according to what I have read, this may have been caused due to insufficient internal memory. After that, my phone rebooted and it just can't boot now, it gets stuck with the Sony Ericsson logo.
I also have read that possible solutions were: Update with PCC, SEUS, Flash it with a Stock ROM, flash a stock kernel... And I CAN'T do any of these. PCC and SEUS just don't recognize my phone, SEUS doesn't even have Arc S on the list! The closest i have got to solving the problem was with flashtool, in which I got this happy message "15/044/2013 20:44:42 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted" over and over. Having read that this could be caused by the kernel, I tried flashing it instead. But after installing DroidSDK, I can't detect any devices using the "adb devices" command.
Any ideas? If I am just being stupid, I'm sorry, but I swear I searched a hell lot before posting this >_>
Even the repair option in PC Companion?
First - sorry for my english.
Second - try this:
Deattach battery from phone and connect the charge. LED must be green. Wait for ~10 min & then try to flash via Flashtool again and again. Please be patient. In some situations successful flashing might be on 5-6 flashing.

You have installed PcC,SEUS,good.Install gordon flash just in case(look for it on google)!Install flashtool on your pc,turn your Arc on(i know it's bootlooping, but try it can't hurt),run flashtool(just run it),connect your phone(it must be ON),and leave it for a while and see if flashtooo is recognizing your phone(if it does there will be some lines)!.-If this works continue!Download stock .ftf file for lt18i!
I suppose you know how to use flashtool?!.
Try that if that doesn't work SEUS will work and it has Arc and Arc S just look a bit,i know 'cause i have it.PcC won't work 'cause your phone isn't booting up,Well at least it never worked for me when i bricked my arc like this, but did work flashtool, always.I couldn't use SEUS 'cause of a bootloader unlocked.
Good luck, hope you'll fix it and next time, before flashing read the thread twice and follow the exacted steps,no jumping...
P.S for flashing JB you need to have ICS inatalled and i'think bootloader unlocked(not sure)...Cheers
