I noticed if you rename the whole thing, when you go to restore,it doesnt recognize the MD5sum,i just put an underscore and an abbreviation on the end and it works..... _Classic

I think you can name it whatever you want, but the only characters you can use are letter, numbers and underscores. No spaces or decimal points.

Thanks for the info, all three of you. Got tired of looking at numbers and trying to remember what the hell it was. When I was still useing the heroc, with CWM i could name them anything I wanted. But as its been ststed many times here , The Evo doesnt play well with CWM as ive found out the hard way a few times. I like AmonRa but I do wish CWM was a little more freindly with our devices. Thanks again for the education guys,,,Later
You have to keep the original name, then add to the end of it and no spaces can be in there.
For example, I use BDEARS-20120120-0219-MIUI-12_9-complete for one of MIUI backups.
The numbers are pretty easy, actually. 20120120 is the date; 2012/01/20 and the 0219 is the time: 02:19

if you rename it if has to be one word or multiple connected. i do it all the time with my amon backups and never have a problem
good: Classic_evo_anthrax
bad: Classic evo anthrax
so basically dont use spaces or periods and you should be fine

Damn Hipkat I would have to choose use this rom for as long as I have my Evo? Hmm it would probably be Shooter ,since i've run that rom just as long as Miui it seems haha. I really should set up Bootmanager though haha. Bought it a whie ago and only used it like twice.
Damn guys, Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I do appreciate it. As far as a favorite ROM, Im kinda stuck on Nitrous. Sooth snappy and dependable. Thanks again,,,Later

did u do a back up?
sadly i did not, I was messing with overclocking and somehow messed up some permissions and i'm kinda stuck in a loop. I tried that once with my old G1 and I've had mixed experiences, sometimes I would get MD5 checks that didn't match up and once actually backed up my step fathers G1 while rooting his and ended up accidentally loading it up on mine.
Worth a shot I guess.
you can use someone else's backup, but the unroot threads all tell you the order in which you need to do things, without searching and reading you will never do anything on your own which is ridiculous. there are a few different threads that tell you how to unroot your phone if you just read everything through it will all make sense

He did a little too much tweaking and has it phone hosed up.
Best of luck to him. I am sure he will now do a back up before messing with things. I have opted to do that every time now with Rom Manager. Its nice to be able to revert quickly.
I did the CM 6.1 RC1 but GPS and battery life not so good. Luckily I had a Backup that I was able to restore days later. With the assistance of Titanium I get everything else set up. Email is no big deal as I have exchange and Gmail.
Please see this thread. I had used this to reset my G2 back to stock and then went ahead and rooted it with rage.

Just curious since CM has this function... Being a new Amon-Ra user this seems like something that would make the users life much easier. I previously has all my custom things in a folder on my sd called EvoDev and roms in one folder, zip mods in another, etc.... I now must leave all my stuff on root of sd or move back and forth with a file manager if I want to do anything.
I'm not mad or anything, just curious as to why Amon-Ra doesn't have this ability. Anyone know?
P.S. - Sorry if this is wrong section but I didn't view it as a general Q&A... It was more specific to a function of a program that is used daily in development so I thought this would be the appropriate place to ask.

Are you saying there is a way to make it see past the root? I can't figure it out. Please elaborate..
If you are just saying it is easy to work around as in it is easy to just move my files to root of sd.... Well sure, it isn't hard to do..... but it does take more time.... And say you are doing something complicated requiring flashing a few things one after the other... Well... That becomes a bit of a PITA if you ask me... Especially after using CM for so long....
I like Amon-Ra better actually... Aside from the lack of seeing past root of SD...
As I said, I'm not mad, just wanted to know if maybe a change was in the works or if anyone knew a way to force seeing further.
no way around it, but if you are by a computer, enabling USB mode allows you to mount the SD card and manage it while in recovery.

Yep, I always use usb-ms mode when I do some flashes/updates since it's quick and easy. The file explorer would be a bonus, but amon ra is great the way it is. As long as I have my nandroid backup includes my 4G RSA keys then that's all that matters.

This. You must be rooted to have superuser permissions (access to write to the /system partition).
Use Root Explorer like roxxors said, give it SU permissions, navigate to your system/app folder, mount R/W at the top right (read/write) and then you can long press on items to delete or modify the apps and permissions.
Remember you have to mount R/W before you can edit, paste, move things into, or otherwise modify what's in /system
Its ok as long as you get it figured out.

Dude, that sucks man. I saw your post about it earlier and how someone said "Did you have a phone locator app?"
I've used locating apps in the past, but being a performance freak I try to keep my phone pretty barebones. Hearing your tale of sadness makes me wonder about reinstalling it.
Wouldn't do much use if the person who took it knows the first thing about Android. Not that I ever would but if I stole an EVO first thing I would do is turn of GPS and do Airplane Mode and either uninstall locating apps or do a factory reset.
But maybe someone found it on accident and it will be at the lost and found tomorrow?
Or maybe this is God's way of telling you to switch to the EVO 3D when it comes out!

it probably is. here's an untested flashable zip i just whipped up of the stock gb keyboard. it'll install it to the system. install with amon-ra recovery.
btw you should probably flash a custom rom. they have so many advantages over stock.
this won't work with clockworkmod 3.0+. again, i didn't test this, but it should work. i just popped the apk right out of the newest cm7 nightly.
long press on a text box and choose imput method, then android keyboard to use.

1. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP! well i didnt did this i dont rely on backups><
2. Download rom.zip and place on sdcard i did
3. Boot into clockwork recovery i did
4. Choose to flash zip (choose appropriate sdcard location) did this
5. Once zip has finished installation, reboot did this aswell
6. Now wait a minimum of 10 minutes (I know you're excited but don't touch anything!) did this aswell

This made me LOL.
The only person who can get a Tmo SGSII ROM to boot on an International SGSII is Chuck Norris. I can tell you are not Chuck Norris because of your Thanks count. Chuck Norris' Thanks count is so high that only government supercomputers have the resources to display such a high number. The rest of us just get rerouted to a 404 error page and then our computers start smoking before the blue screen of death appears and our motherboards melt. I went through 4 computers before I learned this, now I have to write to my congressman in order to get the real number. Even then, by the time I get the number I have to add atleast another 150,000 Thanks to that to get the real number, because Walker Texas Ranger is in syndication and even when you thank the fictional version of Chuck Norris when he rescues little white kids from Mexican drug smugglers, his Thanks count goes up. Its very frustrating.
Either way, now you know. Flash International SGSII ROMs on your device and you should be ok.

You would need to check the thread for the international version. Since I only have the T-Mobile version (and I am a Noob), I see no need to look at the other version's ROMs. I don't want to get tempted by another ROM and have a brainfart and think it will work on my phone.
