So I was able to downgrade the phone to 2.3.3, I was able to intstall revolutionary and got S-off. Had problems trying to flash the superuser as well but finally got it. Also just got around to installing ROM manager on it before she took off for work. Now my questions are, 1. Why isnt there a recovery app? Like right now I am on my rooted X2 on CM7 and have CM7 recovery as before that I had just had a recovery app (green arrow going in circle) but on my girls INC2, no recovery app appeared after messing with revolutionary. Does that mean I have to power down and volume down+power in oreder to get into recovery and flash a ROM everytime? Or could this be done through ROM manager? Don't know too much about HTC as I am on motorola, trying somthing new but don't want to ruin her phone in the process lol. Thanks for any info in advance. Appreciate all the help I can get.

During Rev, you should have got an option saying "Do you want to install CWM Recovery?". If you said yes, you're good to go. If not, you need to download ROM Manager from the market and flash CWM through that.
Yes I got that message and I said yes. The program on my PC then goes away and the phone goes to Hboot or whatever the recovery is called. I see it says revolutionary at top and S-off but when I reboot phone there is no CWM app. Shouldnt have to power down and then boot everytime correct? I just got confused lol, really not used to HTC.
Sent from My MB870/DROID X2 Running CM7
Well it won't matter. As long as you download ROM manager you'll be fine. From ROM manager you'll be able to manage your roms, change names and boot into recovery.
Edit: And if she's not happy with the ROM you put for her, just load up MIUI. I put it on my gfs EVO and she loved the theming and ease of use.
Once you have a rom that has a 4 way power control, you will be able to go straight to recovery when powering down, or as stated use Rom manager or 4ext recovery control and you can go to recovery from there as stated above.
If your GF doesn't want anything crazy rom wise, there are stock debloated rooted roms available that have the 4 way power option. Check the dev section. Lot of good stuff in there
Awesome thanks for the quick replies. Will try flashing somthing as soon as she gets home. I have been looking at MIUI and it does look nice. Even for my X2, looks a bit more stable for her device as apose mine. She's been really liking my CM7 and have been looking at that ROM for the INC2 as well. Looks EXACTLY like my ROM. Except I've read somewhere there is no audio for the videos you record and that sucks cuz my GF really likes recording our son running around doing and saying crazy things hahaha. So if all is well like you guys are saying, now I'm stuck on which ROM to flash. Thanks again for the info, has helped relieve alot of stress for me thinking I had to REDO EVERYTHING! That would suck! lol. So what do you guys think the most stable and best ROM out there for the INC2?
Sent from My MB870/DROID X2 Running CM7
Cm7, well the latest Kangs have been good. Didn't know about the audio on the vid recording not working though, huh... Nitsuj's stock rom is good if she likes sense, and wants everything to work
My self, I keep Cm7 as a backup on my Sd card, and have been mostly using the Ics builds for the past few months now. I like the newest Aokp release at the moment (27), and have also had good luck with Nitsij's Miui V4. Aeoreven has been doing CM9 build's as well that have been really good too.
The Sense 3.5 roms are nice, and for the most part, everything works.
Awesome, all sounds great to me. Just going to have to ask her for her opinion now. Thanks alot again, you guys on these forums rock and don't know what I'd do without yall. Will let everyone know how it goes later! Hopefully a nice screenshot! =-)

I like sabatoge sense, lot like stock with pretty 3.0 sense parts added into it, and its trouble free like stock. Be sure and wipe everything before you flash a ROM everytime, and I reccomend 4ext recovery over cwm

Like I said before MIUI but you can also settle down for Mikrunny. The camera is great for your son and she can use the SRS enhancement feature in the music player to have great sound quality. One thing about these sense ROMs though is that they are memory hogs. The Mikrunny ROM comes overclocked to 1.5 (I believe), so it sort of fixes that problem.
I use newts stuff a lot (miks runny, inc HD), I find that inc hd ran faster, they both almost run at stock speeds, one thing I found annoying with those roms though is that if u click on a phone number link in a message or web page, Google voice, it would try to dial it but never go through, may be a small issue for some but it really bugged me. I believe its cause its a UK based build. You can listen to everyone suggest and argue but the best thing you can do is make a back up of stock then start flashing and decide for yourself
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
Yessss, worked out great. Gotta screenshot but it may look kinda bad cuz I sent it via MMS from the INC2 to my X2. But ended up going with the CM7 for now since her heart was set on the look of mine lol. But thank you again to all for suggestions. Going to be trying all sorts of roms now. MIUI is most likely going to be the next. I explained it to her and she seemed very interested. Need to get in a better wifi spot to get these roms easier. Had to use my X2 to download her rom, place it on PC then onto her SD, talk about alot of bs to go through lol. Again, you guys are awesome on these forums and can't thank you all enough!
Sent from My MB870/DROID X2 Running CM7
If you go for MIUI, either use the ICS MIUI v4 by nitsuj in the dev section or the GB MIUI 1.29 release. Everything since has been unusable.
Thanks for that chunk of info. CM7 seems pretty solid for her device right now. So I see no reason for another ROM but I'm glad I didn't flash a buggy one off bat. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey guys,
I've had my evo about 4 months now and i'm jumping on the root train. Got it rooted last night with Unrevoked. Now I wanna do something cool. I've been reading for hours now and i'm more confused than ever. I basically want to have a custom display but dont know what to do/use. A little help would be great. What theme, rom, whatever should I use and how do I do it? Thanks in advance
I would recommend any one of the virus roms. Check them out here in the forums you wont be disappointed
I would post the link for ya but im on tapatalk sorry

virus rom? Sounds wrong. Just the title I hope.
Check on Bnice's port of the MIUI rom (Chinese based) Be ready to read, it's a fast moving thread. I've been on it since v1.08??? and it is getting amazing. Way diffrent then any sense rom and it looks like the theming is getting ready to pop.
First time around, I would download ROM Manager from the market. It has alot of popular roms available to download and flash right in it. After you get a little more familiar, and see what one is like, you can go ahead and branch out. AOSP Roms (Cyanogen, MIUI) are great, but you may feel more comofortable with a stock ROM first.
If you want to play around with your current rom just mess around with Launcherpro. Amazing what a custom dock and icons can do to spice things up.
I second that Virus roms are good , battery life is good and they are smooth. A rooted evo can be customized in anyway you can think of. I change something on mine everyday. Congrats on joining the darkside!

I'll admit I was put off by Virus rom's title, but it's actually quite nice. I haven't run it in about a month, though.
If you don't need 4g, try out cyanogen or MIUI. If you need 4G, there are tons of sense based roms available. I personally like Myn's rom. But I also like Fresh & Frost.
I flash roms like they're going out of style & every new rom or new update brings at least an hour of excitement to my day even if I don't care for the rom. Try 'em all, dude.

Best thing to do is flash flash flash till you find something you like fresh roms are as close to stock as a modded rom can get personally I don't care for asop roms but to each their own. Myn is releasing rls3 tonight I'm on the beta version and this rom is beautiful, ava has a good one and calk too. A far as themes go you can use a pre made like riptides or flash a few options out of several to get what you want the only thing that holds you back is your own imagination so have fun and flash.

I completely agree. I first rooted my Evo with unrevoked3 and soon after started messing around with launchers (adw is beast imo) and themes. Then I quickly got bored and decided to use Rom manager and start flashing roms. But once you do that it is trial and error with the roms till you find the one you like. Keep searching the forum to find one that you think you will like and read the posts so that you are aware of problems that some roms have.

Is there a non-sense rom with working ziimote AND hdmi?
So here's my situation.
Saw that Google killed some apps today. Looked on my phone and sure enough I had two games (Chess and Falling Ball). Knowing that a factory reset from the phone settings wouldn't actually erase any rooting that these apps could have done, I decided to install the official HTC RUU. Tried to run it and got an error about the bootloader being incompatible. Tried a few things, but nothing made a difference.
Now I'm at a crossroads. I need to clear off this crap. I figured, ok, let's go ahead and root the phone and maybe even a custom ROM that way I'm sure any remnants of the app are gone. Problem is I haven't found an easy way to tell which ROMs are good, which ones aren't (by that I mean are stable and let me use wifi/bluetooth/gps without issues), and that allow me to use Exchange/activesync still.
I looked at Cyanogenmod, but they are telling my that wifi/bluetooth/gps don't work. I don't care if it has sense or not, but again, I need those things to work as well as exchange.
If all else fails I'll go back to the stock firmware, but I need to be sure that I've cleared off any changes these apps may have caused. Thanks.
Flash virtuous rom, its nearly 100% stock, but rooted, very stable.

Incredibly Reengineered is awesome. apparently theres an issue with MMS with wifi on or something but I haven't experienced it yet.. Other than that my bluetooth wifi and gps all work flawlessly and super fast. Virtuous is good if you want your phone pretty much stock. Depends on preference.
Most ROMS have a buglist somewhere in the original post that says what the issues are. Cyanogenmod 6.1 is very stable, but it's AOSP not sense.
Many AOSP ROM's lack solid stability, so if I were you I'd try sticking with Sense based ROM's at first- and if you want to venture out a little further then there are some pretty sweet AOSP ROM's that are for the most part quite stable.
I've been sticking with Sky Raider 3.5 for a while now, I've tried a few other ROM's but always came back to good 'ol SR3.5. It's speedy, great battery life, and a couple added features that are very nice to have.
As always, be absolutely sure you make a complete backup of your phone before ever starting to flash anything. Also make sure you read through your ROM thread thoroughly so you won't run into any problems.
As most have said SkyRaider 3.5 is a great first Rom to start with. It was my first. I've since moved to Warm 2.2, and for the most part it is stable and I've had no problems. I really want to move to Warm Z though and test out the new Sense 2.0.
Definitely root. You will be missing out if you don't.

A previous user posted that the AOSP ROM's tend to have stability issues? I haven't experienced this and to be honest, my favorite ROM used to be Mynn's Warm... LOVED IT!!! That is until I went to CM7 (currently running #11).
Can't go wrong with Skyraider 3.5 or Mynn's Warm. If you want to go with the gingerbread ROM then CM7 has worked VERY well for me.
Good luck !!!

Once you get used to a 4x5 screen, you won't want to ever go back to 4x4. He also has a new one, Incredibly Re-engineered Z v1.0. It's new, haven't tried it, but its based on the Warm Z ROM.

give another vote for skyraider sense 3.5. that was the only rom that i used until making the switch to cm7. everything you said that you need you should have no trouble getting to work with either of these roms. as was also mentioned previously make sure you look at the known issues lists for each rom you decide to check out, which should be located in each respective op.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up going with Cyanogenmod7 RC2 afterall. Android 2.3.3 and everything works perfectly as far as I've been able to tell. Better battery life too it seems. Thanks again for the suggestions. I may try a few of them so that I can get a feel for each.

BYUsinger84 did you do anything special in flashing Cyanogenmod7 RC2 or did you just do a factory reset , wipe , cache wipe . then flash .
Good choice with CM7. I flash the nightlies whenever they're released and have yet to have a single problem. It's surprising stable and functional.
Skyraider Sense was my first ROM as well, and I loved it, but I could never get rid of CM7 now. It's just got everything I could want and more.

I actually installed RC1 and then RC2 came out, but yes that's how I flashed the first time. I did it all from the clockworkmod recovery screen. I tried to flash from the ROMManager but quickly learned, that doesn't work so well.
Does anyone know what happened to the Sky Raider rom? I wanted to download it, and when I went to look for it I could not find it.
Is there any information on this?

Well, you won't be disappointed. It's 99% stable. I say 99% because sometimes when on the net and it asks for a password a box a message about the SIM card sometimes pops up, no biggie. It's just a great overall ROM.
2.6.35.14/OC/UV/CFS/Vdd_sysfs kernel got some bluetooth problem with Skyraider, problem went away with the stock kernel that came with it.
I love this rom! Not a single problem.
The only thing that made me move to cm7 for now is that I couldn't figure out how to turn off the softkey backlight with it.
Hey all.
I am currently using the Synergy non-god mode rom and hate it.
It keeps freezing and takes forever to populate the icons. I litearlly just look at a blank home screen for what seems to take forever and it drives me nuts.
I want a new ROM!
I see some newer ones out there plus the new WARM
I KNOW THAT THIS IS A VERY VAGUE QUESTION...BUT what is "the rom" that people are using.
I want something that will not take forever to get my icons on the homescreen! I guess the term is snappy.
I tend to like the HTC sense...used to that.
I would be happy with Synergy, but it just is not that stable for me.
Thanks
Mike

None that I have experienced. Mik puts out some solid stuff.
Warm put out a TwoPointThree which is great... but new and has some bugs.
What are you looking for? I mean we can give solid recommendations... just need to know what you are looking for... Like:
is 4G/Wimax a must have?
Is Sense ROM a must have?
Does it need to be tested and solid or are you willing to try newer stuff?
EDIT: Also if you like the ROM you are on, you can try the COD tweak and see if it helps... http://vaelek.com/index.php/topic/1...sonic-tweaking-guide-v102-120411/page__st__40
Swagged Out Stock is pretty good, I'm having better luck with that then MikG actually.
The classic by tommytomatoe
THANKS
Thanks for all the recommendations.
What I am looking for...I don't know if I am looking for the PERFECT ROM or what.
but, what I am seeking is a good, stable snappy rom that doesn't lag like my synergy. Must have 4g and working camera.
I don't care if there is a carousel or anything like that.
I am willing to try new, I see a bunch of ICS Roms, but no camera or video. Deal killers.
I really do like Sense a lot, mostly cause of be being able to dial a number by dialing the name.
I guess I am mostly looking for stability and one that won't lag. When I flick the unlock ring, my synergy just freezes and I get frustrated waiting for it to work. Lots of battery pulls....
Oh yeah...good battery too.
Am I asking for the moon?
Thanks!
Mike
PS.
I tried that tweeking guide a few months ago. Not sure if I did it correctly, but no difference.
You want one of these:
Mikg from MikMik @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967
or
Evo Classic from tommytomato @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312414
I have run both and they are great and meet your requirements . I am partial to Mik's as I keep returning to MikG when my "must have new ROM" itch dissipates
I was on MikG v3.0 for a few weeks and loved it. Ran great with Chopsuey. Then I got a little bored and heard good things about Tommytomatoe's Classic. I tried the v0.0.5 with More Freedom kernel and I'm getting the best battery life I have ever had and the sdcard loads very quickly and icons come up real fast after rebooting. Also am running the v6 script.

Try a Sense 1.0 ROM based off of the latest OTA. There are a TON to choose from now-a-days. The best in my opinion is def tommytomatoe's EVO Classic. I'm always chasin' him in the features department. But obviously I'm going to plug my Swagged Out Stock as well.
But just search "4.54 ROM" and you will find a BUNCH to choose from.
Good luck!
P.S.: I recommend these because they are all 100% stable!
Did it always run slow or did it used to be quick and just now running like crap? The reason I ask is because you can have things on your phone, besides your ROM, that make the phone come to a crawl. Too many text messages, too many apps on your phone, too much data/cache, etc. Try reloading the ROM or deleting all the crap on your phone before ditching a perfectly good ROM for another.
+1 on mikg 3.0. I ran the alpha 5 evo deck ICS rom. has camera, calendar working. random FC and no sprint voicemail, had to use google voice.
MIKG!!!!!
I think ur lookin for CM7 or Decks rom. In my opinion after a while ur gonna get lag on sense no matter what. U need a AOSP rom they have less lag for sure. I like MIUI but it doesnt have 4G. So i would go CM7 if i were you!

I feel like you aren't wiping your phone correctly. Synergy is a great and stable ROM (although I haven't used it in months) it shouldn't have the constant freezing and lag that you are receiving..make sure to wipe data/cache/dalvik/everything except for SD card.
just a suggestion..oh amon ra recovery works best imo since cwm is known to not format correctly.

Currently using the new WARM, I'm loving it, my only problem with it is that the Rom is a little bulky, like 340mb if I'm not mistaken, so it pretty demanding on storage but other than that its great, got some pretty sweet extra's as well... And the battery life is amazing, I've been using it for about 17 hours while having WiFi on and and browsing every now and then, and battery is just above half, I'd recommend checking it out.
Ribbett, Ribbett, BANG!
I'm planning to stick with ICS (Jared's currently), however MiKG has always been great to me. It just works, and does a lot of little things that you get used to having (intuitive toggles, multiple usb options when plugged in, tweaks, native tethering (hotspot + wired), etc...).
So, if considering staying with GB, +1 for MikG, if wanting to play with ICS, you have 3 options that I know of currently but don't expect it to be as "polished" as a GB rom at this point in time.
I tried deck's alpha 5 ICS build, and the only problems I found with it was that for some reason (there have been hints given towards trebuche being the reason for this) the gallery app is very... touchy? I suppose that would be the word for it, it worked a couple of times, but for the most part it would load and either be a completely black screen or it would say that no sd card was present, which was a little nerve racking when I was attempting to flash another Rom. It scared me because I thought my phone was stuck on that Rom... But I fiddled with it a bit and was able to solve the problem, and from what I saw in his A5 Rom thread both problems had been reported, no clue if there has been a fix yet, but... given that its still in alpha stage, I'd say it's a pretty stable release, I had no issues with f/c or anything of the sort. Very little lag, great battery life, no random reboots.
Ribbet, Ribbett, BANG!

Greetings everyone.
I would like to root and install a new ROM on my girlfriend's Incredible 2. Now normally I would experiment myself but since it is not my own phone I will not have the opportunity to go flash crazy and try everything. As such I would like to get some recommendations. The main thing would be speed and stability. I do not know what she has done to her phone I just know that it is stock something. I am also unsure of what root method to use but that is simply due to the fact that I haven't been able to check anything yet. I just want to get some groundwork done before I jump in. She is always using her phone so I figured it would be nice to make her experience more enjoyable. Thanks in advance!
Edit:
There wouldn't be something as beast as the Decks reloaded ROM on the Evo would there? That is essentially what I would like to flash for her. Something ridiculously stable that has all the tweaks that I would need to add in. If not just let me know what the most stable rom is and what tweaks I should include as I flash for the lady.
for a good overview of available roms, kernels, radios, tweaks, and s-off guides you might start here
I think you're going to have to use the tacoroot method. that's what I did and I had the most current verizon updates. I just flashed chilly beans pd rom last night and it seems great. incredibly paranoid android I hope that helps
I love paranood but all the tweaks may overwhelm her. Dkstunnas global cm9 ROM has everything working and is fast, viper ROM is the best sense ROM in my opinion, and I also love gingerbread miui. Tazz patriot and macrodroid also have a nice sense 3.6 ROM named Arctic ascension, which is a little faster than venom but maybe less visually awe inspiring, I also made a descended version of that ROM but it is extremely stripped down (made for speed). All the ROMs I mentioned are completely functional and stable, except paranoid, which the newest version doesn't have a working front facing camera, but watch it, I'm sure chilly will get it worked out, he's a good dev, hope I've given you a small idea of what some of my picks are like...

Are you doing this for her or for you? Does she want it rooted? If not, leave it be. If she is happy with it then adhere to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" line if thinking. If she does want it rooted, which type of rom does she want? Does she like sense and prefer not to have to learn her way around a new type of os? If so, skyraider Zeus is really good. Also, nits has some good gb sense roms. If she wants to try something new cm7 is fast and stable. As Jeremy said, gingerbread miui is great, just be careful with themes. Always backup before changing themes as some of them will lock your phone up and force you to restore a back up. It isn't common but I found several that did it. If she wants everything working with no bugs or random restarts, stay away from ics/jb at least until (if) we get source. If she is daring and can work through those issues without freaking out, the ones Jeremy mentioned are sweet. Pacman is one of my favorite roms ever, I just had some bugs that pushed me away for now. And they may be more phone related than rom. Hope that helps.

For OP, concur with what others above already said ... search for both speed & stability involved compromises in balancing out on a rooted custom ROM since you are on XDA searching ...
1. There are 2 stock Sense Rom based on VZW's OTA releases, one by AndyBones with additional tweaks/add-ons and a newer one by CS, stripped of bloatware (she isn't going to mess with NFL or CityKids ID, yada yada) Put TB on it and update Play Store, etc. and once it's done updating the Apps, you are good to go - both maintained full GSM functionality and if you get it unlocked officially by Big Red, you can truely made it a global phone, insert a local prepaid Sim card & have inexpensive voice calling rates everywhere instead of using its partner's Vodafone Sim.
2. Next up is the Nit's Stock Sense v5.0.m-ext4, that's highly finished & polished, everything works with numerous options and it is equal to SkyRaider's Zeus v1.3 rom, both can be overclocked for speed in trading off some battery life - still going to give you a full 20 to 30 hours day of heavy use depending on Apps running, and in the case of DW's identical DI2 running SR Zeus, typically 3+ full days of standby with minimal voice calling/SMS and little or no 3G/WiFi browsing. Installed SRZ on her's since it was released 15 months ago and trouble-free, never froze and zero maintenance. I run between Stock Sense v5 and SRZ and still indecisive, switching every so often - especially when I'm traveling as I use GSM bands for non-US local calling, no re-programming or *#*# codes or menu to cycle thru. I keep copies of CWM's backup on the devices and in cloud storage in case of restoration, but it's been good. Update the kernels and to the newer radios once it's running, and you have a trouble-free device, set-n-forget - switched to a smaller (4 x 1) widget for the clock & weather display on the homescreen and I'm happy.
BTW, I have the newest Google Apps like Currents, Play Book & Play Magazine, etc. running on these Roms - when I don't have my true tablet, the Nexus 7 running JB 4.1.2 with me.
3. CM7's is good, simple & fast and good for changing things, haven't "play" with CM9 global ones lately - apparently most of the issues with camera, bluetooth & minor bugs are smoothly out. Tazz/MD's Sense 3.6 ROM is newer and is functional and refreshing - battery life isn't as good as older GB roms, as I recall. Be prepared for minimal tech support for you loved ones.
4. Nit's masterpiece, Team V's Viper Rom is the newest/hottest and best preview of JB/4.x for the DI2, I like it - TB restore from older GB and other roms might or might not work, depending on the Apps, it's best to do a fresh & clean install after full/deep wipe first. If it wasn't for the exclusive CDMA only or GSM only Rom , set by the initial Aroma installation & somewhat "fair" battery life - I would probably use it as my daily. Once (a big IF) HTC & VZW release kernel sources/codes or rollout ICS updates - serious development will resume as everything is now ported over from other/leaked sources. Paranoid's Rom by Chilly looks good, developer's work with the Nexus 7 set a benchmark that's not easy for others to follow/exceed - I haven't check it out myself but I'm sure it's excellent.
Thanks for the heads up! She has been complaining about how slow her phone seems to be lately so I figured it was a good excuse to root. I didn't see your post until just now, but those rom suggestions seem great! When I did show her a couple of screens she liked the look of MIUI best. Is the link I posted earlier a stable enough version for her? Or should I be looking at a different thread?

Miui variants has been around for a long time - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830675 - I haven't flashed or use one lately since the HTC Eris days, LOL but from the thread posts, it looks good enough for me, if you like it - go for it. Just backup always and if ... just restore or flash a different one, go back-n-forth - trials and errors work for me all the time (well, almost.) Enjoy.
The most stable miui is the gb 1.12.9. I think that is the right number. If you are using clockwork mode go into Rom manager and download it. There are 2, the other is 1.30.9 it something like that. Most people say that one wasn't as stable as the previous build. If you use the gb Rom get Aero's .7 kernel. A lot of people like the ics build but it may have stability issues that someone not wanting to wipe cache or go through fixes would want to deal with.
Maybe it's 1.12.9 and 1.12.30, I don't remember for sure, but you don't want the one with 30 in the number.
