So here's my situation.
Saw that Google killed some apps today. Looked on my phone and sure enough I had two games (Chess and Falling Ball). Knowing that a factory reset from the phone settings wouldn't actually erase any rooting that these apps could have done, I decided to install the official HTC RUU. Tried to run it and got an error about the bootloader being incompatible. Tried a few things, but nothing made a difference.
Now I'm at a crossroads. I need to clear off this crap. I figured, ok, let's go ahead and root the phone and maybe even a custom ROM that way I'm sure any remnants of the app are gone. Problem is I haven't found an easy way to tell which ROMs are good, which ones aren't (by that I mean are stable and let me use wifi/bluetooth/gps without issues), and that allow me to use Exchange/activesync still.
I looked at Cyanogenmod, but they are telling my that wifi/bluetooth/gps don't work. I don't care if it has sense or not, but again, I need those things to work as well as exchange.
If all else fails I'll go back to the stock firmware, but I need to be sure that I've cleared off any changes these apps may have caused. Thanks.
Flash virtuous rom, its nearly 100% stock, but rooted, very stable.
Ya gotta root first tho.

Skyraider Sense is a very stable rom too. Just throwing some options out there for you.

Incredibly Reengineered is awesome. apparently theres an issue with MMS with wifi on or something but I haven't experienced it yet.. Other than that my bluetooth wifi and gps all work flawlessly and super fast. Virtuous is good if you want your phone pretty much stock. Depends on preference.
Most ROMS have a buglist somewhere in the original post that says what the issues are. Cyanogenmod 6.1 is very stable, but it's AOSP not sense.
Many AOSP ROM's lack solid stability, so if I were you I'd try sticking with Sense based ROM's at first- and if you want to venture out a little further then there are some pretty sweet AOSP ROM's that are for the most part quite stable.
I've been sticking with Sky Raider 3.5 for a while now, I've tried a few other ROM's but always came back to good 'ol SR3.5. It's speedy, great battery life, and a couple added features that are very nice to have.
As always, be absolutely sure you make a complete backup of your phone before ever starting to flash anything. Also make sure you read through your ROM thread thoroughly so you won't run into any problems.
As most have said SkyRaider 3.5 is a great first Rom to start with. It was my first. I've since moved to Warm 2.2, and for the most part it is stable and I've had no problems. I really want to move to Warm Z though and test out the new Sense 2.0.
Definitely root. You will be missing out if you don't.

A previous user posted that the AOSP ROM's tend to have stability issues? I haven't experienced this and to be honest, my favorite ROM used to be Mynn's Warm... LOVED IT!!! That is until I went to CM7 (currently running #11).
Can't go wrong with Skyraider 3.5 or Mynn's Warm. If you want to go with the gingerbread ROM then CM7 has worked VERY well for me.
Good luck !!!

I'm hooked in Incredibly Re-engineered as well. It's gone through several revisions and Chingy051 is very responsive and quick to remedy issues. Also, he's got heaps of mods for his ROM. Once you get used to a 4x5 screen, you won't want to ever go back to 4x4. He also has a new one, Incredibly Re-engineered Z v1.0. It's new, haven't tried it, but its based on the Warm Z ROM.

give another vote for skyraider sense 3.5. that was the only rom that i used until making the switch to cm7. everything you said that you need you should have no trouble getting to work with either of these roms. as was also mentioned previously make sure you look at the known issues lists for each rom you decide to check out, which should be located in each respective op.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up going with Cyanogenmod7 RC2 afterall. Android 2.3.3 and everything works perfectly as far as I've been able to tell. Better battery life too it seems. Thanks again for the suggestions. I may try a few of them so that I can get a feel for each.

BYUsinger84 did you do anything special in flashing Cyanogenmod7 RC2 or did you just do a factory reset , wipe , cache wipe . then flash .
Good choice with CM7. I flash the nightlies whenever they're released and have yet to have a single problem. It's surprising stable and functional.
Skyraider Sense was my first ROM as well, and I loved it, but I could never get rid of CM7 now. It's just got everything I could want and more.
What kernel are you running? Try out chad's incredikernel, it's rock solid, very quick and great battery life. Good upgrade from stock, at least for me. Give it a try, Nandroid first and you'll have nothing to lose.

I actually installed RC1 and then RC2 came out, but yes that's how I flashed the first time. I did it all from the clockworkmod recovery screen. I tried to flash from the ROMManager but quickly learned, that doesn't work so well.

I have attempted using CM7 rc2 but was handsome issues. I will try again. Currently I am running uncommon sense. I really like this one. I flashed in incredikernel and love it. I did have to flash in an older clockwork to get it to flash however. I have also used raider Athena and swarm Z twopointwo. There are a lot of roms out there to choose from. I would search around and read the posts for each rom and see what you are looking for. There was a post on here with a list of roms. There is also a list of different content at theincrediblelist.com.
Have fun and welcome to the Droid community!
I really liked the reviews and look of the warm 2.2 and want to try it out but the tutorial I watched on how to install it didn't work. So I used rom manager and am currently cm7 and I'm having avfew issues but they could just be a lack of basic knowledge. I'm getting a lot of force closes. But luckily I took al the safety procedures I could and I have everything backed up. Except my contacts and things of that nature. Its kind of annoying haha. But anyways thank you for replying. I'm sure ill have some more questions up soon. Thanks again!
Incredibly Reengineered is the ROM you want. Fast with great battery life. Search the dev forums for it.

Yeah i've heard a lot about that rom. I want to try it and I will very soon. Thanks again
I'm using CM7 nightly 30 with zero issues at all. Works perfectly. Great battery life for my uses. Highly recommend.
I've been trying a lot of the cm7 versions and I'm getting a lot of force closes when I pull up just about any app. I haven't found a stable one for me yet. But it may be in just doing some things wrong. Not sure. Kinda going into this whole thing blind. Surprised I haven't damaged my phone yet truthfully. But also on cm7 rc2. It doesn't reboot at all. It tries but gets stuck at the load screen. I'm going to try the nightlies version tonight though.
You need to go into Rom Manager and do "Fix Permissions". This usually fixes all of my force closes after a new ROM. (and subsequent Titanium backup app restore )
So I did that and it force closed my entire phone and shut it down and it wouldn't reboot or turn back on at all. So I installed incredibly reengineered. Its the only rom I haven't had troubles with.

WarmZ 2.2 is a great rom. I've been using it for about two weeks. The RLS is really stable and is very quick. The nightlies are pretty clean too. Check it out.
I used CM7 for a while and got a little bored with it. For the past month or so I have been using Warm Z TwoPointTwo and absolutely LOVE it. Incubus is on top of the nightlys and has opened them up for us all to test. I personally am running the 3/31 nightly with no issues so far. I liked the sense ui and the sense icons and widgets and this ROM is based on Sense 2.0 so it has all kinds of nice goodies. I would give this ROM a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901822
Has anybody run both of these? Which do you find better? I am a huge myn/virus fan so Synergy appeals to me, but I have only heard good things about roms beginning in "Mik". Any feedback is appreciate
I'm gonna flash Mik's this morning, so I'll be back to report on it, but there are a ton of threads where people talk about their experience with the ROM, like Mik's thread in the DEV section,
I was looking for a direct comparison...believe me I've been pouring over both threads. I think I'll go with Mik for right now (I have access to Myn donor site though) & maybe switch over in a few nightlies.
To be fair, we can't really compare until Synergy is finished & released.
Synergy is still in testing so if you want to contribute to the beta, give the nightlies a go & report back.
MikG 2.1+3.0 is pretty much complete, it feels like the update we should've got from Sprint/HTC.

Alright so after using miks rom for a few days I've noticed a few things. The rom is very stable, but overall ui has its hiccups every now and then. My main problem with it us the rom has some problems with data connection (for me at least) however after switching to the latest synergy nightly im beginning to find its all around smoother and more responsive. no hiccups so far, and my data seems fine, hell my battery life is even better

I've tried both - so far I'm using MikG 1.02 as my daily driver. What do you consider to be the fastest, most reliable SENSE ROM available for the Droid Incredible?
This includes, everything working as it should if it were delivered straight from the factory with no bugs and everything functioning properly.
I am a "Serial Flasher" and it seems that there is always something that makes me want to revert to stock so it will work again.
I don't know, maybe I'm too picky but any answers would really help. Thanks in advance.

I wish I could say the same...but CM7 doesnt have 720p video...so in essence it isnt full featured (of course not CyanogenMod's fault) and it has a decent amount of bloat (languages, etc.) I actually preferred Deck's 2.3.4 ROM more than CM7 - less bloat.
FroYo still has the full feature set but the annoying 'out of space' issue. Magnolia was a pretty nice ROM - probably my favorite.
I would probably go with Liberation 2.0 - gingersense leak without the bloat. Everything worked - even though the battery life is okay - if you want Sense that works.
Im using WD's Inc2 port now...and its pretty snappy. Almost too snappy - probably why at some point Magnolia slowed down its transition and window speeds.
No best roms threads . What is best for you is not best for others. This can be redundant and a never ending story.
Cheers,
I'm using Salvage Mod right now, and before that I used Fresh EVO for a very long while, but I'm looking to change once more. I was hearing a lot of talk about MIUI so I decided to check that out. It seems...interesting. I'm not sure how I like the removal of the app drawer (Maybe it's back in there now, the video I watched laying out the ROM was months and months old), but it could be worth checking out.

I agree that visually its not great, but there is a fantastic theme made by _Burst_ called plurstaralpha http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149482 that is significantly cool. I very much recommend the theme as I have tried very many roms and themes and this one for as incredibly stable as it is, looks EXCEEDINGLY cool.
I didn't really like MIUI. I then gave Synergy a shot next and I love it. I'm gonna stick with this! Thanks for the help, guys!
I'm sure you have already figured this out, but MIUI doesn't have an application drawer. You can put all items in a folder, and then dock the folder, but it doesn't have a dedicated drawer. It also doesn't contain 4G capabilities.
You were on an AOSP Rom, so I would advice Cyanogen, if you haven't already looked into it. I am currently running their nightly builds (I flash every time they have an update that intrigues me.) and they are working fine. I'm currently on 143 with no issues. GPS works fine, 4G is working, etc. The Rom is very quick, you can install a different launcher if you wish, but it comes with ADW stock. You can flash customer kernels/Ram optimization scripts to make it fly and contain perfect battery life. I also ran RC1 of CM7.1 and it was fine as well, no issues with any of the features. I prefer the nightlies simply because they add new features into it to "test" before they release them into a "stable" version.
I have no objections when it comes to Sense, except for the bloat that it has. My favorite Sense based Rom I ran on here at the moment would have to be Synergy RC2. It was fast and ran fine, however, HTC has yet to drop the source code for their kernel, so you are stuck with their stock one which provides contributes to the already mildly depressing battery life that Sense will give you.
All in all, there are plenty of awesome Roms on here. People can talk all day about why one Rom is their favorite or why they prefer it over another, it all comes down to personal preferences. I would run the suggested ones that seem to interest you and see which ones you like the best.
Hope I helped, even if it wasn't much.

Great post! You seem to know your stuff, mate. Well, as much as I love Synergy if the battery life isn't great, then I might have to give it the boot. As for the CM7 nightly builds...what exactly does that mean? Does it mean there will be a new ROM every night that I would have to download and then flash again? Or is it an automatic update that occurs? Or what?

They make a new build of the rom almost every night, adding new features and bug fixes to the rom. You can follow the change log, and download the new rom and flash whenever something interests you. You dont have to wipe data, you can just install over the existing rom without losing your settings, but always make a backup just in case.

Interesting. Glad to hear that about the data wipe, though. I'm going to have to look into this stuff. Thanks!
Actually, I have one last question! When installing the nightly, do I have to first install the stable version? Or can I just wipe everything and install the 87MB nightly. I ask because 87 megs just seems small for a ROM.

It's 87 Megs because it's Cyanogen. That is exactly why I don't like Sense, due to the "bloat" it gives the Rom. Synergy is about 290MB I believe, Cyanogen is 90MB. Lol the nightlies are the complete Rom, you can wipe and flash them. You don't have to install the stable version first.
Keep in mind, the nightlies do contain issues every once in a while. Like I stated previously, I am on 143 and it is running perfectly for me. I will update once they put an update out that gets me excited.
Edit - You may find this neat, if you like the Sense feel but are on Cyanogen.

I like ADW launcher the most, so I'll be stickin with that bad boy. It's default with CM7 IIRC? That should do it for me. I had no idea Sense took up so much space, though...that is ridiculous.
Since you've got no issues with 143 and have helped me out so much I'll start there if I decide to make the switch. Synergy has some reeally awesome features that I like, but I should be able to part with it if CM7 has it's own weapons. Gonna try to find some videos for it now.
Thanks for all the help, man!
.....ROM that works....been flashing ROMs for a while now and can't seem to find something that's stable enough to use daily...besides one I would rather not name so I don't look biased....
I know ALOT of hard work goes into these ROMs & it is quite a pain in the ass dealing with people complaining about every little detail, but why release something with alot of bugs?
If a ROM constantly freezes, removes apps by itself, reboots by itself repeatedly, force closes every 10 minutes, needs 3 scripts to be run before it works and/or only 1/2 of the tools/gadgets on the device work correctly then maybe it shouldn't be released as fast.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK by all the Devs on this (and other) forums...do not take this personal anyone, please.
If someone knows of a somewhat-stable ROM PLEASE point me in that direction.
I know how to flash ROMs & kernels and wipe everything and do all the backups & whatnot....not following directions is not the problem....
I have done what is recommended by so many members of this forum---"just download & try them for yourself"....I've done that, but can't seem to find a decent ROM/kernel combo....
if anyone can offer a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.
[I'm gonna get some sh*t for this post, I know it]
I found decks rom to be good and stable with real good battery life. I've tried it with tiamat kernels they were ok but my phone I decided my phone likes the stock kernel the best. Only thing i had to fix was the gps but I've read that all aosp roms need that fix. Or if all else fails you can go with trustee ol fresh rom

I think you're flashing wrong. Ive flashed about 90 percent of the roms in xda and I've never gotten the problems you stated. Try mikg v2.5. That's what I'm running right now for sense. For AOSP try kushdeck 1.2.1. It's 2.3.4 based and really stable in my opinion

yeah the MikG 2.1-3.0 v2.52 is the stable ROM I was talking about in the OP...that's what I've been using but I'm looking for a Sense 3.0 ROM to flash...I use Amon-RA & VR Superwipe to wipe everything (I run VR twice for every ROM) so I'm sure everything gets wiped...
I didn't mean all of those errors happened at the same time on the same ROM....I was just stating that quite a few ROMs have at least one or more of those problems....
know of any somewhat-stable 3.0's?
Thanks for the reply BTW.
For sense I have used EVOlved Rom and loved it. Just flashed Synergy a few days ago and it seems to be running really well also. Godmode for Synergy doesn't work well for a lot of people but non godmode works really well for me

yeah I tried Synergy+GodMode & had problems with it...about to flash Synergy RLS1 & see how that does...heard it's decent.
If you don't need 4G, use MIUI
I have a real good step by step in my signature. Be-LIEVE me, I've had every ROM there is, and I used to HATE MIUI, but now, I can't see running anything else
MIUI is an AOSP ROM, correct? Similar to CM7?
I tried out CM7 & that was pretty decent, but I really like the Sense 3.0 ROMs.
Finally got a nice setup (so far) with the Synergy RLS1 & Aggressive Freedom .9 Universal kernel...device is crazy-fast now with no FCs or any problems...yet...hopefully all will stay good.
MYN's Warm 2.2 RLS 5
Never had a problem with it.
