Welcome to the "Energy" ROM collection thread !
This development thread is the home of my "EnergyROM" custom firmware series for the Kindle Fire device. Here you will find ROMs that I have created for this device over time. My main goal when putting a ROM together is stability but...
I build my ROMs with four main goals.
Stability through private beta testing before public release
Eye candy ( I want my ROM to look great and for it to all flow together nicely)
Speed !!!
Smoothness, consistency and good aesthetics
I preconfigure a lot of things in my ROM, because when I flash it on my phone, I want it ready to go. So, the ringtone, sms/email and other notifications to already be set. Doing it this way, makes for a nice ROM that's ready out of the box.
Now on to the good stuff...
(You can stay up to date on the status of my ROM development by "following" me on Twitter)
How to Flash this ROM:
- Root your device
- Install TWRP custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM

Great rom. Not sure is this is common on ics builds but the wallpaper distorts after the lockscreen is unlocked. Update seems like the issue fixed itself.

Yeap.. it's not perfect. There's going to be bugs. But, I will update and fix whatever I can.
So far the best ICS rom i used ! Too bad god my First SOD while playing a game and had to hard reboot.
Flashed fine and seems to be running really smooth. Well done for a first release, I look forward to seeing where this goes in the future. Thanks for giving us all another option on this very cool device

Thanks for this.
Installed Rom and apps no issues.
Couple of things I noticed.
On initial start up, it says it is skipping Wifi setup, then takes you to the Wifi setup screen.
Love the battery icon, but the Network icon is still there, any chance you could remove that ?
I like that you have included a file manager, I keep my backups on the external card. It was a bit of a pain as I had to go to the market to get Es file manager just to get to the External card with the other rooms.
Wallpapers are a nice touch but I find they do not scale correctly ? That's why I have to use Wallpaper Slide show to sort out scaling ?
Have not tried OTG yet, but I feel its an app issue to get that working for large internal drives.
Seems to be a problem with the md5 checksum for the rom. I've downloaded the file on 2 computers and on my Xoom. All three report a checksum of B6C410298E5816E3DE1AB206FC1BFBE5. Not a match. Well, going to assume the one in the OP is incorrect and flash it anyway. It's the old no pain, no gain thing I guess.
Flashed and up and running. Haven't been running it long enough to check everything out but I like what I see so far. Very responsive and running smooth.
Thanks for the ROM kejar. Nice, just as one would expect from you. Only thing I know of so far that could use a little tuning is that md5 sum in the OP. . Thanks again.
So great to see you on the xoom cant wait for all the awesomeness to come
Looks promising. Hope for working 3g soon. Installing on my xoom now.

What's in the download link ? You'll find three subfolders.
4.2.1 ROMs contains Themed and Stock official Asus ROMs based on the latest 4.2.1 Release from Asus. You need to flash the 4.2.1 package from Bootloader Packages first, before you attempt to flash one of the ROMs in this folder. YOU CAN CLICK THIS LINK FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS!
Bootloader Packages contains .zip files that are meant to flashed in recovery (just like a ROM). Flashing the 4.1.1 package will install the 4.1.1 JB bootloader/kernel/recovery/partitions on your tablet (in case you want to run older ROMs that require it), while flashing the 4.2.1 package will do the same, but install the latest bootloader/kernel/partitions REQUIRED to install the 4.2.1 based ROMs.
4.1.1 ROMs contains the older JB ROMs, that were made up until December 12th, 2012. You can run these ROMs whether you have the 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 package flashed to your tablet.

I have been using the rom for about 30 minutes and everything seems to be working great. Camera is good. I have been opening all different apps with no fc's. It's quick and smooth, really nice. There aren't many roms being updated right now for this great device so this is a very nice treat.
Okay. So it seems to work great for you guys. That's good news. One thing I'd like to know.... can someone please take a screenshot with the notifications open so I can see the brightness slider and all the switches right above it ?
Excellent job. I have try almost all the ROM's here and on all of them I end up with random reboots and wi-fi problems.
So far so good here really smooth and fast running for few hours now and no reboot no problems.
As I said great to see you here. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Yeeeeeeeeep. BB6 w/ JB bootloader lol.
Can you tell me what the different features are in ROM control between this and standard AOKP?
Without auto-rotate working, can you choose which mode you want it in (portait/landscape) or is that predetermined?
This is really cool, thanks for your work.

Take your time bro, glad to have you aboard, looks like a great ROM.
Is the CM10/AOKP theme chooser in this?
Volume buttons have been fixed also I decided to use the stock kernel so if you want OC you will need to flash untermensch's cm10 kernel
*new build will be uploaded shortly*
let me know if you guys find any bugs but it should be good besides rotation.

After trying four different ROMs this week, this is the one I am going to stick with! Thanks!
A few bugs I have run into:
Downloading build 6 when using the goo manager app downloads a build that is not JB bootloader compliant. The link in the op works however.
Another strange error is that the play store says some apps are not compatible with my device now. (chrome, google play music, and a few others). Anyone else run into this?
Edit: found this version of baked blackbean works on tf300 with auto rotation working and no app compatibility problems.

The one up on goo is for the ics bootloader. We will get that changed to this one. For the time being use the link in the op.
The not compatible issue is likely due to how it reports itself to the play store. We will take a look.

AOSP JELLY BEAN 4.2.2_r1
Also included are some optimizations by Texas Instruments and the result is a BLAZING OS running on what is now considered an out-dated memory model (512MB RAM).
Most OMAP 512MB devices are not supported by their OEM vendors past Gingerbread (LG may be an upcoming exception).
This ROM represents exactly what is being pushed to Nexus 10/7 owners. Now you can join in the fun too!
WHAT'S NEW IN ANDROID 4.2
See for yourself: http://www.android.com/whatsnew/
(Note that we don't have a camera or NFC so some of these are obviously not going to work for us)
[2013/02/12] Download 4.2.2_r1 ROM here
md5sum: f4cc5efb6de779da93670fb48a794d64
PLUS YOU WILL NEED TO FLASH GAPPS AFTER
Jelly Bean 4.2 Gapps here (CM10.1)
(use top row CM10.1 link for 12/12)
WHAT WORKS
(Basically, most items I tested work, except I couldn't get the new swype-style input going on the keyboard)
[02/12] AOSP 4.2.2_r1
[01/22] Updated with new 3.0.50 kernel including better battery life
[01/22] Newest PVR/Imgtec graphics binaries
[01/22] Update wifi firmware to R5.SP3.06
[12/18] Fixed battery deep sleep
[12/18] Added multi-user login fix mentioned by NotShorty found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018146
Hardware Acceleration (hwcomposer)
HD Codecs (YouTube/Netflix)
Small amount of OTG (some devices w/ powered hub supported)
Sound, but no microphone
NOT WORKING
Bootanimation needs a display bugfix
Need to enable the swype-style 4.2 keyboard
I'll check out photo sync options
Looking into USB camera support (will probably be more useful when the 3.4 kernel is ready)
REQUIREMENTS
Should be running FireFireFire Bootloader 1.4a found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375
Have a custom recovery installed, such as TWRP 2.2.x.x+ or Cannibal Open Touch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025793
Easy method for both -> Use Smirkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935
INSTALLATION
RECOMMEND FULL WIPE UNLESS UPDATING A 4.2 ROM Use Titanium Backup to restore apps.
Download the ZIP
Grab the GAPPS (12/12 from goo.im/gapps)
Reboot into recovery
Make your backup (You do make a backup right?)
Wipe Data/Cache)
Flash both the ROM and the gapps .zip files
Reboot and Enjoy
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Does this include the new 3.4 kernel? A: No, it's not ready yet.
Q: Where's the "Developer" settings menu? A: Go into Settings -> About tablet, and tap the "Build number" box about 7 times. That enables it.
BUILDING THIS ROM
[ It's a rough build. Probably not going to update the public manifest ]
Enjoy
Wow can't wait to try this out after work!

Very cool It`s been a bit quiet this should liven it up!:good:
Update
I went dirty bootanimation is cut in half for a while and clock fc`s but seems to run, changes will need to be made to the driver to get adb running again but everything I enjoy seems to work just fine. The clock fc did not persist after a clean flash but the boot animation temporary disorientation did. Buttery smooth.
Awesome
Will try this out later in the day, and can't wait for twa_ piv to integrate this into his builds.

Does this come with an upgraded kernel base as well? (I.e. in the form of new drivers / new features)

Hey Hash,
I don't seem to get any deep sleep on your 4.2 aosp build - at least according to cpu spy. The CPU is pretty much stuck on 600Mhz for me. That's on a clean install, full wipe.
Also, do you mind pushing your jb-mr1 device-amazon-otter branch to github?
Thanks

Yep, I see what you mean. I'll have a look.
The device repo isn't quite ready yet. I'm still making tweaks to it.
Working beautifully
A few things (trying to be helpful, please take no offense)
- No Users menu in Settings, so no multi-user support. Edit: solution here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018146
- edit: see below post
- Any possibility for photo sync, despite the lack of camera hardware? I'd love to use my Kindle Fire to view the photos taken by my Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks for this. Keep bringing the AOSP goodness!

And actually believe it or not. its 7 times?
Couple of notes:
I'm seeing memory GC issues which look to be causing sleep issues. Investigating.
The "About" screen shows 4.2 but it's actually 4.2.1 because we don't have the missing month bug.
I need to research the missing multi-profiles issue.
I'll check out photo sync options
I'm also looking into USB camera support (will probably be more useful when the 3.4 kernel is ready)

Hey everyone I'm back! Here's Carbon for the kindle fire! These builds are straight from carbon source + CM device source for otter (with slight modifications so carbon will build it.)
I'm now building the ROM with linaro 4.7 and -O3, but no special optimizations of any kind besides that. And also, the kernel is the diablo kernel (credits to Chet Kener) built with -O3 and linaro 4.8. And there are built-in delta updates. You can check updates in settings-->about-->carbon updates.
These are Carbon builds (KITKAT) Enjoy!
On a side note, I definitely recommend speeding up the animations to make the device run more smoothly. (If you set custom animations from carbon fibers, you can directly change the animation duration there. The usual method is to go to developer options, go down to "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale", and "Animator duration scale". Change the 1x to .25x or a .5x for all three of those options. You will notice a difference, I guarantee it. You can also overclock the processor in settings to 1.2 GHz instead of the default 1.0 GHz.)
You have to have the latest version of twrp for this to flash.
I will try to upload updated builds whenever I can, hopefully a week at the longest. Even though I labeled this thread "weeklies", you may see builds every few days or even the next day if I can find time to upload them.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE. FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO CARBON FOR THE AMAZING ROM, AND CYANOGENMOD FOR THE DEVICE SOURCE.
Downloads:
My builds are now on http://androidsftw.believable.org. (Flash the .zip file if you're not doing delta and just downloading the zip) (Thank you GideonX for the server space!!!)
Yes it's a very simple website, and there will be files on there as I upload them.
GAPPS:
Use PA gapps. They're awesome http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Instructions (same as flashing any other ROM):
If you are coming from a different ROM:
make a backup. (If you want)
DO A FULL WIPE (data, cache, dalvik cache)
flash rom.
flash gapps.
If you are updating from one weekly to another,
just flash the weekly and wipe cache/dalvik.
Changelog:

Installed and so far going well, some small ui qlitches but I like it. Looking forward to more!!
Wait what sort of ui glitches are you having? The only one I saw was when you rotate the screen.

Say VTCruzer, I dont understand your question...
If you explain what you mean with a bit of detail or ask the question again so that I may understand it , I would be happy to give you what you need to know.
Ram as in Speed memory or Ram as in Space??
Average?
Is there a way to test it? or some app that can benchmark it?
The Kindle is not super fast, but with the tweaks via the developers option, there is a significant enhancement with acceleration.
This Kindle is first generation and perfect for browsing news and catching up on email via wifi, nothing more.
This unit was a hand me down because the end user wanted an iPad...
I have both the Samsung Tab 3 10.1 which is fast as it get out of the box and with a extend Micro SDcard even more space...
Cheers VTCruzer.
