There should be a page for seeing posts that quoted you. Sometimes, the dev threads are very active, and you may have to read through pages, possibly missing someone who responded to your query.
For extra noob friendliness, I think it should be on your notification bar by default, like notifications and PM's. i.e. "You have new replies!"

Already discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965991
For what it's worth, it's been discussed in the past, but it would likely place a large load on the server, and as such, it probably won't be implemented.

Yes it is possible. I've actually seen the source code before for the function but never needed to use it.

I placed it here for a reason. Besides, more or less it doesn't change anyone, kill anyone, or damage anything. Be glad i didn't make it a development post.
I asked in our community so that if it IS possible. Someone here could obtain the credit for a utterly simple yet very very nice feature I'm pretty sure people are starting to get used too. Maybe it could even try to get pushed to many other apps.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
No neeed for hostility he's just advising that this would get a better view in the Genral section.
Just get the credit yourself and look up the code to post it.
I think the development section after selecting it should then have sections for EACH version rom. ie. Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS.
So that when you are looking at what is being developed you are not diluted with newer releases of older versions when you are really trying to find the best of a specific version.
This would allow it to be more organized.
+1 Would save a lot of confusion for noobs as well. Specific mods for specific version go in that section and so on and so forth .. yeah. Like it.
well there is only gingerbread and ICS, some mods are universal so you would have to post twice? and would you split up the theme and apps section too?
Good idea. Truth is though just more places for non readers to post in the wrong sections.

This idea is irrelevant because all people have to do is read. Even if the Title doesn't say the firmware version, the OP will 9 times out of 10.
The thought is good, but in reality.....nah bro
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why the hell not? Even if the
OP does contain the firmware version, it would stop a lot of the confusion for the noobs that don't read. As for people that DO read, it would be convenient to go in a section with, say, just ICS ROMs, to check out the latest goodies instead of having to look through all the GB ROMs and other things that aren't ICS related.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If people don't read And flash and destroy....it's their fault.. There are already "please read if you're new" posts or "if you're new to ICS" posts. If people are lazy and disregard proper guided precautions to help inform everybody before they start messing with expensive phones....then a bricked phone is what you'll get.

I think most people commenting are missing the point. Of course its not that important to people like us who come here often and keep up with everything.
But if you imagine the noob who means well, and is just trying to find the information that he needs, this web board is immensely cluttered.
Honestly, thats why you have so many noobs posting dumb questions and asking the same things over and over again. Most people aren't trying to clutter the forums, but when they can't find what they want quickly they give up and just start their own thread which gets on everyones nerves.
i think more sub-headings and forum breakdowns would help a lot honestly. And at the very least give mods a fresh place to police and (hopefully) control post whoring.

Oh boo hoo those poor noobs we need to hand them step by steps and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to flash rooms! Rom flashing is a basic human right and every American should get it free of hassle!
I say the free account registration inhibits minorities like the computer illiterate and old people, we should abolish this account registration so everyone has the opportunity to post anything!
In fact those poor souls who brick their phones should get new ones for free, I mean the developers get donations so they should spread the wealth around it would be better for everyone!

I find it hard to believe clutter is the reason dumb threads are started.
Raise your hand if you have seen someone post a question or news item that has already been posted less than 5 threads down in the first page of general at the time of posting.
*raises hand*
Forums sections are well explained and disclosed, even if people rant and flame at noobs, it is still a noob friendly atmosphere here, the problem also is that devs and senior members still repeat themselves overe and over trying to help noobs and besides alot of members on xda are just too lazy to read, only screwing up people learn to either not to touch or mess with something they shouldn't have mess with in first place, nobody was born knowing all, yet nobody was born brainless, if people screw up after so many threads of guides and how to's lost in limbo around the forums, let them screw up, imbeciles only see the finger that is pointig the right direction.
If stickies, guides and bibles haven't helped, it is useless to clutter this forums with more subforums

I've never had a call echo complaint on AOKP JB, and have been running it for months.
I hope you feel really good about yourself, starting this thread all over such a small issue.
The irony of this post is that now when people search up "call echo" on the search bar now, this is the first thread out of several dozens of other threads that shows up and mentions this issue.
What's worst is that the post doesn't solve anything at all, lol. If it really bothered you, you could have simply provided links in your post to the particular threads where those who are actually looking will know where to search for prior answers.
In that way it will save you time and others... additionally, your rant wouldn't be another waste of space in these forums and instead actual be of some use to people... just a thought.
In the second paragraph I clearly stated the little things that people have found to temporarily fix the issue

What kind of responses were you expecting from your post? Obviously since you emphasized greatly that people need to use the search bar more there is no need for us to add more to the minor information you already posted other than proper links... which then again contradicts using the search bar. As much as it is a nuisance, there are always going to be people on these forums who will ask old questions... don't let it be your problem, you're not obliged to answer the questions all the time. I understand your wanting to rant and I feel your frustration (Believe me when I say this. You should see some of the stuff that comes our way). Like FT said above, there is always going to be someone that asks the same question over and over and over, sometimes the same question in multiple threads. These people will never learn. But they are becoming more and more predominate in the forums lately.
We have 4.8m users and anywhere from 36-50k users online at a time. That type of userbase is fantastically hard to comprehend when it comes to things like this. Few want to learn anymore and many just come here to make their phone/tablet cool looking and could care less about smali hacks, de/compiling apks (what apk means for that matter), Android.policy.jars,...
Best answer I could give you now is to simply ignore those posts and move on to the next relevant post. If you want to answer, then by all means. Users should help each other when possible. But that doesn't mean spoonfeeding either.

Hey guys.
I've been thinking about this, and it got me wondering..
If you see someone with a Recognized Contributor title, Recognized Developer title, or anything else higher than 'senior member' do you find yourself having more respect for those types of people versus a senior member telling you something? This applies to questions being answered, opinions, or any other given situation. If this thread gets 'popular' I'll throw up a poll.
Also, please do us all a favor and elaborate on the reason(s) why you said yes, no, or anything of the like.
Thanks!

Basically, if someone posts a question and it's answered properly I don't care if the answer came from a n00b or an RC. I'd be more inclined to accept an RC answer than a lesser rank if there was some doubt, though

Exactly what he said. *footnote being there are lots of senior members that if you look at their info have been members since 2007 but have very little posts and thanks. And their questions or answers very often reflect that. So I tend to look at that as well when trying to decide if I'm going to take their opinion seriously or as pertinent as someone else.

Usually respect comes out of combination of their rank, number of posts and thanks.
Also when you follow particular threads like a hawk, the members worth respecting are visible on every next page.

I mostly always use xda app so ranks/posts/thanks aren't readily visible, but even when they are known I simply respect those that are respectful. On my last phones forum I lost quite a bit of respect for some of the devs actually just for their portrayed superior attitudes. If you don't like someone coming in and asking a repeat question (which I do understand can be frustrating) just ignore them, all the flaming just intensifies the problem.
I also agree about signatures asking for thanks, while I enjoy seeing my thanks meter go up it doesn't actually mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And while I'll still give a thanks if I appreciate the post, I'm less inclined too when the person asks for it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Hell no thanks don't matter. Anyone who's ever been to OT knows that the number of thanks a member has doesn't have anything to do with how knowledgeable they are.
As far as a contributor or dev, I don't judge somebody by the color of their name, I'm not a namecist.
Anyways the majority of posts and questions are more user related, so they do not require someone with vast knowledge of coding/themeing/etc. Anyone can answer a thread like HLP BATTRY FUUUU!, not just a "higher ranked user".
Having all of the requirements and becoming recognized should grant that user immediate respect. Devs too.
Users with hella post and thanks have probably seen a thing or two so they get respect but you gotta watch some of em lol
I wouldn't "instantly" respect anyone. Respect isn't something that should be just given away, people who actually deserve it get it.
Well yeah I guess. Only higher than me is RD, RC and Moderator. Senior Member status is earned by such a small amount of posts that I think it should be raised to 1,000 posts. It should be something that takes longer to achieve.
Thanks for all of your responses guys!

i look at EVERYTHING. sig, info in the sig, posts, thanks(meaning what you were thanked for), join date and then i'll also look at past posts ... ESPECIALLY if the person is trolling. even if it wasnt intentional trolling.
there are some people tho that have 10k posts because all they post is "SEARCH" ten times or bump their friends threads all the time. and then thats why they have 100k thanks. that person i will flame til deaths end and its because they are the people that are detrimental to this community. I admit my stats arent the greatest here but mostly because i have been using forums for the past ten years and have decided I have better things in my life to pick on people that are on the internet. I don't necessarily automatically respect them, I just use the title and post count as a quick gauge of whether I should trust their opinion. That being said, I've seen a lot of people (like ben.nesheim said) that pad their post count with useless crap. There are a lot of people here that I know have high post counts that I don't trust on anything, and dread seeing their name in a thread. Then there are others that only have hundreds of posts (sometimes less) that are the most helpful and knowledgable people you'll find, they just don't post drivel. I think the title and post count are great quick indicators, but nothing more. Once you get into recognized developer or contributor territory, I give them a little more credit right off, but to me the respect still has to be earned.
And like EddyOS said, the signature tells you a LOT about a person. I make it a point not to hit the thanks button if your signature asks for it. We all know why its there, you don't need to remind me.
Probally will get royally flamed for bthis or have it removed, But for those like me that have to have wifi calling on our phones, is it possible for someone to make a thread with a list of ROMs with this feature. i would, but since I'm relatively new to this scene, and don'tknow any of thedevs, i wouldn't be able to get there permissions. I would make it myself if they would allow.
You can post info like this about roms, just don't post links except ones that are to the rom thread.
Unless you want something old, all roms that are built using the latest T-Mobile build, UVDMD5, will most likely have wifi calling. Just look for that build in the op and if you don't see it, move along to the next. If you want to cross reference an older rom to see if its a T-Mobile base, just compare to the build number in my firmware thread.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
So I can configure a list as long as I only list links to threads. I thought even that it was considered wrong to do without consulting the dev. Just dont want to step on toes. And if was to compile the list myself, would I put it in development section or general information section.

Yup. Perfectly fine to do that. You just dont want to post links to their actual roms w/o permission. Some devs like to keep an eye on download counts and stuff like that. This way they know where everyone gets the download link from. Honestly though, most probably wouldnt even care about that, but still its best to ask for anything else.
Id say this would go in the General Section.
If it is just going to contain info about the ROMs, you should post it in General. If you end up including anything like a FAQ or Q&A, then it could go in the Q&A section.
Never start a thread in the development sections unless you have something to release such as a rom or mod. (or at least the plan to release and are actively developing a WIP (Work In Progress)).
Never post questions or general info guides and such there. If deemed it needs to go there in the future, it can always be moved.
