Hello people, I'll start off by saying good morning to you all and hope your not in New England like I am where all the damn snow just **** on us all. With that aside here I go's....
A co-worker on 3rd shift an I were talking about themes for android when I came into work this morning. The conversation got long so I'll sum up what made me post this question. I searched the forums and treads and did not see anything of this nature. Is it possible for someone to make a rotary style dialer to replace the stock dialer that everybody themes? Something that looks like the images below:

I understand that this is a HUGE request and I am in no means expecting anyone to pull this off. I'm not thinking down on any of you, I'm just assuming that this takes mega programming skills to build android apps / apks. If this is doable I think it'd be a hit. I know that there are android apps like this on the market but it should be part of someones ROM with options to use stock dialer or rotary dialer.
There's a few rotary dialer on the android market. Check there.

Yes i understand that. If you read my whole post you would see i already mentioned that. I'm looking for one to be made to replace the stock dialer.apk and possibly integrated into a ROM....
find one of the rotary dialer replacements. then freeze the stock dialer, and push the new dialer app into system/app. then run the dialer and set as default.
there you go
Hmm, every time i use Titanium pro, and root explorer, i freeze what i think is the system dialer apk in juggernaut 5.0, and immediately am bombarded with com.process.android.phone yadda yadda has stopped working. So i should restart and everything will be kosher? I am wanting to change the stock dialer apk to something off the market, which i already converted to a system apk, and switched it to the /system/app folder via root explorer. However in titanium, i see a few different things that say PHONE or DIALER in them. I freeze them restart my phone, same issue, even switched in the new apk and renamed it Phone.apk in the system and moved the original to another folder for back up purposes. Here is where i run into a snag, everytime i get it to get anywhere near working how i think it should, com.android.phone stops working, and i get a Not registered on network pop up, and no signal in the signal bars. Any ideas?
because i changed the resolution a tad using a root app and the stock dialer only fills like the middle left of the screen and looks trashy, everything else, however, looks amazing. REALLY makes the screen look huge now.

I've just started breaking open some apks and playing around with the idea of changing some elements I don't like but I don't know if it'll ever be much more than that right now. It's mainly the Advanced Launcher I've been poking around in and blueifying (yes it's a word, shush!) I used the Eclair theme that's around here but anyway less chat, more pics... all three of them >_> Gotta start somewhere, right?
First thing I changed - the app drawer handle

Deleting icons now becomes a game...
I tend to lose interest quite fast in doing things but this is kinda therapeutic. If someone out there could tell me how to go about testing themes on an Android VM it would speed things up a lot considering I only have one G1 and it makes it painfully slow to test things. I'm gonna go hunt around for the information anyway but if anyone wants to point me in the right direction I won't complain
A quick way to test things now would be to use the new MetaMorph. You can test most things without flashing.
why would you flash the whole thing? up to now, you've only changed Launcher (I'm ignoring all the other icons you changed on purpose), so all you'd have to do is, after you modified your pngs (and put them back in the apk) just "adb push Launcher.apk /system/app", it will automatically overwrite the old launcher (killing the process first) and then load up the new one with the changes (don't re-sign it, don't listen to people, makes things worse)

I haven't been flashing the whole thing, only the themed files such as the launcher. I did try using "adb push" but for some files I tried it on earlier it lead to big problems with gapps FC and loss of all wireless service. Thanks for the heads up on MetaMorph. I found how to run different ROMs in an emulator but I'd have to throw on a Linux install for that so MetaMorph will help avoid that.
Its not great yet, but im getting there. I now have the stock, android 2.1 working but not 100% functional, I also have 5 homescreens. So what you will see in the youtube video soon is a bit out of date.

If I understand it correctly, that's the launcher (app drawer) from Nexus One.
would like to see 5 icons across rather than four. But not sure what else it does lol

How have you had it working, i.e. in the sense that it looks and acts like a nexus one.

We have already found that you just pull the apk from a nexus1 rom and install it onto the desire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6002164&postcount=80
Then you goto applications and remove htcsense from being default and force close it. when you next go to the home screen it asks which one you want to use (htcsense or launcer2)
EDIT: You can also install Gallery3d from the nexus this way

But if you just install launcher2.apk from N1 it's not functioning properly -- icons are small, etc.

Works fine here, everything looks exactly as it should
Maybe I had the wrong APK. Can you share the one you've used?
I have been running Launcher Pro Plus and use Desktop Visualizer to set Widgets with Custom Icons. If by any chance my EVO reboots or I turn it off, I loose all my widgets that were set on my homescreens. Wherever I had a widget set in will now say "Problem Loading Widget". This is a real pain in the A$$ after I put in plenty of time setting up my homescreens only to find them all jacked up after a reboot.
And Fede if you are on the site, please answer the questions and fix these issues on Launcher Pro's forums. Thanks.

looks like it having troubles reading the location of the widgets on your sdcard
Do you use apps2sd, native froyo or otherwise?
If you're putting either Launcher Pro or any of the widgets/apps from your homes creen on ur sdcard, then that would certainly cause the type of problems you're having.
Not using app2sd, I just use titanium pro to back up all my apps then use the built in batch to move to internal memory. I do keep all apps that I use as widgets on internal memory. Should I just clean slate everything and start from scratch? This is just a pain in the a$$ every time I shut down or reboot.
Anyone know how to get in touch with Fede the developer of Launcher Pro program?

BUMP, anyone else out there?
Well that's weird then. I guess try to start over fresh. Maybe clear the Launcher pro data/Defaults, or uninstall and reinstall I guess. That's pretty annoying.
I have never tried to contact the developer, but heard he's pretty responsive.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
I guess he has his own forum for bug reports and such.

Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
Yeah I am about to post up over there too. I was just trying to get a feel from users here. Thanks again.
I'm having the same issue - not with all of my apps, just some of them. Also, my custom bar at the bottom changed back to the stock launcher pro bar, and I'm getting force closes all the time w/ google and other apps. I'm thinking a fresh start might be in order for me too. I've screwed something up, and can't figure out what it was. It's fun to start over anyway
I installed go product for testing and they look good.
Using it for a day now
installed from the marked add free so far
most themes are free
also there are allot plugins and other app
I made it default program in setting-> application ->application management -> find the program en click on it there is an option make default.
But could change the icon on the wall Don't know if possible if so it would be nice to know.
Do you use it too?
Can I change the icon on the wall for sms , phone, conctacts,..?

Yeah I love the go stuff, I use all of it. Very nice stuff.
Really like their stuff, but GoLauncher Ex started to be laggy as hell since the last 1-2 updates. :-/

Don't know what you mean... I have no problem with Go Launcher Ex...
any chances of them releasing go rom, go sense, go android 2.4, etc..
but go products are good indeed....
I use Go SMS Pro, it's so slick and fast.
Blows Handcent and Chomp out the water IMO.
sorry didn't understand your question (if you asked one).
I'm also a very big fan of GO apps, Launcher, Contact and SMS apps are very good alternatives!! I also have no lag while using Go Launcher.
i am using go launcher and go calendar at the moment..
have yet to try out the go apps... might try them out soon
Where did you take this theme for Go contact??? it's awesome...
I really like the go dailer, but I prefer handcent, because it has a true black theme, saves battery and I like black.

Where did you find Go Calendar? I can't find it.
[edit] this was created on a CDMA device, but please correct me if this will work on GSM so I can edit the title. It's a framework-res edit if that means anything.
This is a simple edit of the lockscreen which changes a couple of things.
1. The unlock ring is moved up quite a bit to make it easier to reach with the thumb while holding the device with one hand. I found that the original location caused me to have to shift my hand after hitting the unlock button or bend my thumb down at an almost uncomfortable angle.
2. I moved the clock and date into the center of the screen and increased the size of the font on the clock a lot and also on the date just a tad. I also decreased the size of the carrier name at the bottom.

To install:
First, back up your original framework-res.apk. Then push in adb.
Code:
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
I'm still researching how to make a flashable zip (can someone point me in the right direction?) so I'll post that when I have it.
Happy new year!
Also, I want to try and mod the lock ring now that there's more room. I'd like to add a third button on the bottom that would put the phone on silent or vibrate as older versions of Android did with a leftward swipe, but I'm pretty much a noob, so I have a long way to go there.
Looks really good I have been missing the silent option on the lockscreen.
Any plans of updating this for 4.0.3 or posting a little "how to" for developers? That would be nice.
This look perfect. I have the same problem with the lockscreen, and I always wonder why the clock is offset.
Would this work on Revolution 4.0.3? A flashable zip would be great.
I guess this is OK.
In Root Explorer,
In system/framework just renamed my framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak.
Then pasted yours in.
I got several stopped working popups in different languages but the phone still functioned OK.
I rebooted and your mod was there.

OK, I found out the problem with just dropping it in there. All my email app accounts were gone. Heh! If there is anything else I dunno, I restored a BU.
After pushing with adb are you guys still OK with your Gmail accounts. Do you need to log in to use Market?
The 1st sign was opening Market and it wanted me to sign in.
DON'T DO IT!
It wipes my Gmail & Email accounts out. Mercy what a hassle to reconfigure them all. Thank heavens for Rom Manager.
Nice mod but it does not go in without pain.
