Camera glass replacement? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I broke the glass behind the bezel and in front of my camera. I've checked everywhere I can think of and can't find it. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I thought the glass was part of thw bezel?

Nope. If it was, all the ebay stuff would work. Unfortunately, no glass included. One more post and I can finally start helping in the dev section! By way of rigorously testing the roms and reporting every little issue

I tried googling for it but could only find the bezel. Your best bet would probably be to find broken inc phone cheap (good glass of course), and take the glass out of it and put it in yours. You could probably get it direct from htc, but who knows what they would charge you.

Back in August the entire glass element AND the bezel wouldn't stay on the phone, so I had to replace the entire back housing just for the lens.

Then a couple months after that, I dropped it from about 3 feet while sitting on a chair and cracked the lens. Been like that since, but it doesn't affect the photos as far as I can tell. Unless the sunlight is hitting it at just the right angle.
Also replaced the speaker 3 times, until I found out I can just use a magnet to pull metal shavings off of it
And yet, I've never broken the glass. It's been dropped off the top of my truck (long way down), dropped in a pool w/100% submersion, and fell out of my pocket while on an ATV and run over. Soft ground saved it there as it was able to sink in. Never had a case either.

do you have a place called "tap plastics" in your town? they can make you an acrylic one that will work. http://www.tapplastics.com/ they just need the dims and thinkness of the glass used to be. or take it in to them. shouldnt cost to much.

Broke back camera glass cover, after replacement camera won't focus UPDATE: fixed!

My issue is the title. The back glass (or whatever material) cover over the camera broke somehow (I really dont know how, I took it out of my pocket and it was broken!) while I was on vacation last week. I just now received a replacement of the entire plastic piece and glass cover that you see when removing the battery cover. It fit perfectly, and looks quite nice, however my camera is now unable to focus. I actually noticed this same issue after only removing the plastic cover and having the camera bare (without the glass cover at all). I have cleaned the lens fairly well with a nice cloth (one that I got with my eyeglasses and I have only ever used on my eyeglasses, that also stays away in a little sleeve), but that doesn't seem to have made any difference.
I found a few threads on this issue searching around. Some of which people said that the cover was required for focusing to work, and some that said it still didn't work after replacment. It appears I am suffering from the latter. Unfortunately, there were no solutions posted for that further problem besides "return it to samsung".
My phone is well out of warranty, and I would rather just try and repair it myself or just sell it off for parts and get a new phone.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here had an opinion as to why this issue may be occurring, and if anyone had experience fixing or at least ideas on what may be done to solve this issue. My random theory was that some piece of the broken glass fell into the lens module and has somehow restricted functionality of the lens, thus resulting in the failure to focus. In this case, it seems my best option is to drop $30 for a replacement camera module and perform that replacement. I was looking to see if anyone had any success stories regarding that job, or perhaps a simpler route I may be able to take.
Thanks in advance!
This is of interest to me also. I ordered a replacement lens cover from Ebay and it came in; what I have is the silver and black "frame" and a black circle with what appears to be the actual lens cover glass. For one thing, if it's going to ruin focus I won't do this. For another, the black circle appears to fit on the outside of the silver and black "frame" and doesn't appear to stick to it in any way. Has anyone performed this repair and have any suggestions?
The replacement I ordered came in the same way you mentioned, the plastic frame and then actual glass cover, except in mine the glass cover has an adhesive strip pre-applied in a ring. If yours doesn't, I suppose you should use something like a thin amount of glue or double sided tape.
I actually tested my camera first without the frame and cover at all before I even got the replacement (I simply removed the broken one as it wasn't providing any protection anyway), and found that at that time I wasn't able to focus. I put some blue masking tape over the lens to shield it until the replacement part arrived.
I actually found a replacement camera module on ebay for only about $15, so I've ordered that and will attempt the repair when it arrives. I'll update this thread with the result of that effort.
Back with an update.
I received the replacement camera module today. After following a simple guide I googled for, I managed to replace it. (fairly painless process really...)
As for the result....

Great success! The overall repair cost was only ~$20. ($5 for glass cover, $15 for camera module) If anyone else finds this thread, just ensure you get the "i747" supported part!

N7 Repair - what electronics are IN the bezel?

So.... I had a VERY tough week at work and was exhausted, stumbling getting out of my car... and dropped my Nexus 7 (LTE!!!)... Screen was still fully visible but non-responsive and glass extremely shattered over the entire surface.
Like an IDIOT, I believed some of the tips and only ordered the glass/digitizer and not the LCD. Well there's $50 down the tube as you CANNOT separate them without destroying the LCD (do not believe anyone who says otherwise)..
So.... Hairdryer would not soften the glue at all so I had to buy a heat gun. On the lowest setting (for safety) it barely softened the glue and required a LOT of persuasion to get the glass loose. The LCD was (as pointed out by those who have actually done this) destroyed in the process... OK, now $100 for the full glass/LCD combo.
However, I have ONE huge concern. During the process, the bezel on the top got overheated and the plastic is damaged. The bezel still snaps securely to the back. However, I noticed there is a small circuit board *inside* the bezel with three metal contacts. What is that? Is it possible that's damaged? The plastic around it shows definite signs of heat damage. Since you CANNOT order a replacement bezel for a N7 2013, and since this is an LTE device, I'm pretty committed to fixing it still. But I'm nervous about ordering parts with the damaged bezel if there are irreplaceable electronics that have been damaged inside the bezel...
So... my question: What is that circuit board that is molded inside the bezel with the metal contacts? What are the odds it was destroyed?
(Posting photos in a few from the phone)
Here are the pictures.
In one side you can see the contacts. The other side the circuit board in question is visible in a small opening.

EDIT: I looked at the part from iFixit, and the bezel is quite different on the LTE model from the Wifi model. It appears that this is the wifi antenna ... the bottom of my bezel has another similar one which is probably part of the LTE antenna. ... so the question is, what are the chances the heating damaged the wifi antenna... not sure what I think about a 4G only tablet...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
UPDATE
Okay... I figured out the wifi antenna (and LTE 4g antenna at bottom?) are actually stickers... it appears they're not damaged as best I can tell. Hope so. The bezel is warped noticeably at one end, but it still snaps into the back side of the case just fine, and the circuit bords fit. So hopefully... *crosses fingers*... it is still repairable.
Honestly, at this point though, I wish more people who had actually DONE the repair would have suggested that it is NOT something to be done by end users. Reassurances that it's "easy if you follow the directions" are highly misguided. At this point I would have paid ASUS for a repair and come out ahead, once you count the resale value of a device that now has a visibly damaged bezel if I even get it working again. I've never had a problem repairing devices in the past, but this one is not as easy as so many "guides" make it sound.
I should have realized sooner that most of those who said it is easy are also in the business of selling glass/digitizers (USELESS!!!) and LCD/Glass/Digitizer combos.
quite similar experience to what i had trying to repair my old n7 glass, only did i order the glass/lcd combo from the beginning. cracked it while trying to fit it in the warped bezel tho.
Yeah, breaking glass due to the warped bezel is what worries me. Unfortunately the LTE bezel appears to be different than the WiFi, so buying a cheaper one and swapping the bezel doesn't appear to be an option either.

[Q] How to disable smart cover sensor on T800

Got the T800 6 days ago, love it.
On Sunday I got a Muvit butterfly stand case to go with it. Now this cover turns off the screen when I
fold it back. Even when it's in a reading stand and I pick it up and accidentally squeeze the cover towards the tablet it turns off the screen.
I hate it when I don't have control over my tablet. I looked for a solution by freezing a lot of Samsung apps, I disabled the smart cover option under settings, all to no avail.
Is there anything I can do? Perhaps flash a different kernel? I have rooted the latest official firmware, but apart from flashing twrp I haven't done anything else.
This is the case I got. I have no clue where the magnets are, and in any case, cutting them out would basically destroy it. So that's not a solution either.
http://www.tabletcenter.be/product-gallery/514549/category-195707/345915
Maybe:
If you heat a magnetic material above its Curie Temperature, its magnetism vanishes entirely. When the magnet cools down again, all the microscopic magnetic domains will point in circles, so the magnet will have zero overall field. Neodymium magnets have a low Curie Temp, so they are more sensitive to overheating than other types of magnets.
If you expose a magnet to the field from a strong electromagnet, the electromagnet will magnetize the magnet perhaps in a different polarity. But if we instead use an AC electromagnet, then move it away from the magnet, the magnet's polarity will flip back and forth, becoming weaker and weaker. The magnet will end up demagnetized. This is called Degaussing.
So...maybe you can find, or someone can suggest, a source for a strong AC magnetic field??? Then remove the tablet from the case and and introduce the case into the AC magnetic field??
On the S 10.5 the sensor is located in the lower right corner of the tablet. Looking at the screen, it's about 1/2 inch from the right and just about 3/4 inch from the bottom (just above where the black masking ends). You can use the tip of a magnetic screwdriver or something similar to pinpoint it. It can be activated from the either the front or the back of the tablet. It is just about where the red dot in the picture is located.
Just trying to help....

Thank you for your reply, never thought about degaussing the case's magnet. Interesting idea. I was originally thinking about going for a software solution but I'll certainly try to find do a way to perform your solution. BTW, the picture doesn't show in the tapatalk forum app nor on the Web based forum.
The again.

Dont know if this helpes you, but on my original samsung cover I can see the location of the magnets (they started showing after some time and after wiping the cover down several times to clean it)
There is a row in the right lower corner and 1 in the middle.

I haven't tried these (still have the factory installed protector in perfect condition), but I found these on Amazon and figured that someone, somewhere may need some.

Cases will not protect the large camera lens from getting scratched. They only prevent shattering, and only if the case is thick enough to extend beyond the camera lense. Even with a thick case, the lense could still easily be scratched since it is only plastic and not Gorilla Glass like the screen. What you said is not helpful to many people.
The point of my post was this:
This phone comes with a camera lense protector pre-installed. Whether the user wants to remove that or not is up to them, but whether it was removed regrettably, or kept attached and worn down over time, some people will need to replace the protector for some reason or another. This is the only lense protector I've seen so far, and I only came across it by complete accident and thought I would share it with my fellow V20 users.

Dude thanks I will be getting these .. yea a case offers some protection from impact but not sand or dust scratching them .. these make that a non issue
Got these to protect while using a thin case. They installed quick and work great without distorting picture quality.

Did you have the factory screen protector installed also with these or does it not fit with the factory screen protector on the camera?
Sent from my VS995 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I'm not sure what the factory protector is. I ended up sending these back because some landscape photos I took looked washed out some, plus I swapped my thinner leather case for the Pierre Cardin that protects the lenses. When I took them off, I noticed the actual lens was recessed some into the plastic covering over the whole assembly. I'm assuming that maybe that is the factory protection? If so, it's a great idea because it's recessed enough to keep the actual lens from touching anything when laying the phone down.
But... is it only 2 circles and not the whole glass? ... LOLi no wonder it has 3 stars on amazon. Any object could hit anywhere else outside those 2 circles and the glass would still break... But im glad to say that after soooo many drops (really hard drops including street and a wall by accident), my phone still looks brand new and no crack on the camera LOL (yes i do have a poetic revolution cover). im starting to believe that only a percentage of the sales came with that defective glass because some people said that they were doing nothing that could affect the glass and all of the sudden it just broke on them. and... well that hasnt happened to me and i bought it on september (exchanged for a new one) and arrived on december. But if the glass were to break on me i would just buy it on ebay or amazon and not just this 2 pitiful circles lol.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...3&_nkw=lg+v20+rear+glass+replacement&_sacat=0
i assume they come with the same plastic from factory and so the best option is to leave it on. (i havent remove my plastic yet)
The supplied protector only protects the boarder, the out camera lens, to use these lens protector, you need to default one's, with time these protector will fall off if the default one has been removed as the small size will not hold it in place.
I have these on my phone from two weeks after I got my phone on release date, the reason is that I have plenty of these, but only for the large camera, had to get some smaller ones for the wide angle lens.
I have them on up to now, and they have been perfect.

Lenovo P2 Cracked Screen.

I've had this phone since release and it's possibly one of the best devices i ever had for it's price, yesterday and while i was sleeping(i always keep my phone to the left of my pillow) i somehow managed to push it off the bed(probably less than 0.5m distance) and it landed on its screen against ceramic floor, result?

I've had my fair share of accidents over the years with different phone models and brands but i never seen a phone crack like this from such a fall, it's like it's made of regular glass even though they claim it's gorilla glass.
What's worse is i called the local repair center and they said that they don't provide replacement parts for this phone anymore, and searching around on the internet it looks like replacing the screen manually would cost over $100 for a phone that i bought for around $200 when it was released and a screen that breaks so easily.
Now that my rant is over, my question is how can i tell if it's only the glass or the actual LED screen? i turned it off immediately as it was making very weird noises and i was afraid it would completely black out without being able to recover the data off it, i have very sensitive and important data that i need to extract and i don't trust sending it to a 3rd party repair thing.

Yes ceramic is harder than your gorilla glass 3. So the ceramic wins. Nothing special.

Every fall is different from each other. To compare that is useless except you do this on laboratory conditions.

That a material with lower hardness (which is brittle) breaks on an impact (maybe in bad conditions/impact angle..) with an harder material is nothing unusual.
As I read it's gorilla glass 3. This is 3 times harder than gorilla glass 2 to be more resistant against scratches. Whats the drawback of this? It is more brittle, see your result.
Because ~70% of the screen damages are from falling damage, they made gorilla glass 4 softer than level 3 to make it more resistant against falling damage. But this makes Level 4 vulnerable to scratches again.
Gorilla glass doesn't mean that it is unbreakable and unscratchable at the same time especially with the early ones.

Turn it on and you will know if the led screen is working or not. Got a P2 with the same shattered glass and the screen works as usual. I don't think theres anything special (magical) you can do. It works or it doesn't. You can also open your device and look if the cable from the screen is still plugged in. No guarantee from my side..
