Possible Galaxy Nexus Volume Fix - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

If we can figure out how to get this phone into diagnostic mode (or MODEM modem, DM Mode, etc etc), you can set the volume higher in a program thats used for programming phones calls qpst without needing any apps. This setting is different than anything located in android and will actually raise the volume of the phone but to do that first we need to get it into this mode. Most people have already tried the regular samsung codes and nothing is working. Come on devs help us out here. The programming codes have to be somewhere in the phone but no1's figured it out yet.

Nexus phones have never had any diagnostic or other hidden menus. Just dont exist i think. All has to be done in code changes.

That's where ur wrong. You are most likely thinking of the gsm version of the phone. I'm talking about the CDMA version like the one from Verizon. The nexus s 4g from sprint had the ability to go into diag mode by the same key combo as phones like the epic 4g. So I know theres a way since pretty much every CDMA phone has a diag mode. The only one I know that doesn't is the iPhone on Verizon but that's a different story

The only hidden menu iv heard of so far for gnex is something to do with radio. Procede with caution and of course the usual warnings apply if you start fiddleing with stuff you don't know what it does

If your main concern is with music being too low, you should try poweramp. It has a preset in the equalizer for louder speaker. IMO it's leaps and bounds better than volume plus. Otherwise wait for supercurio to work guys magic.

well this is more of a permanent solution besides relying on a app for that. It would also help people who want to flash the Galaxy Nexus to a different carrier

I agree, the developer website has a link to his program for free, either go to developer's website from the Volume+ (Sound Boost) marketplace link, or google "Volume+ v1.8.1.0 Released! | AndroidAudioHacks".
My settings --> Sound Settings --> Enable Speaker Modifications
My settings --> Sound Settings --> Enable Virtual Room Effect
My settings --> Sound Settings --> EQ Settings --> Good Quality
My settings --> Sound Settings --> Volume Level --> +8
My settings --> Sound Settings --> Base Enhance --> +8

Makes a big difference, best of luck.

Well its being worked on to fix volume in kernel code, ie latest franco kernel.
But the app equalizer or volume+ technically are real solutions. They just tie into the system audio api and increase it since google opened up the audio api for anyone to use starting in 2.3. Thats why these apps are now possible.

IMO, with my limited knowledge on the subject, radio hacks/mods are totally unnecessary. Everything that needs to be done to alter audio output is available at the kernel level.

also, QPST = Qualcomm Product Support Tools. qualcomm developed pretty much all the CDMA chips, so every modern verizon phone would have one.

Volume+ v1.8.1.0 Release

Hey everyone!
I received my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and have been working on a more ICS ‘optimised’ version for you all (It should work better on Gingerbread/Honeycomb too)!
There’s nothing massively exciting that’s been added but it should be a nice improvement over 1.8.0.6.
A list of updates can be found below!
What’s New in 1.8.1.0?
- Attempt at some ICS optimisations
- Added a check for phones with ICS (takes you to sound settings to enable Volume+ in Meida Effects)
- App starts differently (should be more reliable)
- App should be more ‘persistant’ (see above)
- EQ values completely changed
- Volume levels completely changed
- Higher volumes now available (up to +20)
- Louder volumes should now be attainable
- EQ Band frequencies now shown
- Removed title bar
- Fixed orientation issue
- 'What's New' option on the main page removed (click version number to access change log)
- Broken EQ settings (from the first Beta) now fixed
Known Bugs
- Virtual Room Effects and Bass Boost don’t currently work on ICS (investigating)
For more info and Download links - http://androidaudiohacks.com/?page_id=16
My app is available for free on my website or for 99p on the Android Market.
Enjoy!
anyone get this to work on IN CALL volume?
my speaker volume is perfect on the current market version of V+, but when driving, even on speakerphone it's so low i can't hear anything and i'm hoping maybe one of you can tell me if this will boost that volume.
just asking again, has anyone been able to boost in call volume with this.

Unfortunately you still can't boost the in-call volume (earpiece or speakerphone) with the AudioEffects API. This seems to be a limitation Google put in place.
You can change the Build.prop to increase the number of in-call volume steps but it doesn't necessarily increase the sound, more like allows you to 'fine-tune' the volume. Although, on ICS, it only seems to work once. The linux command to remove the line doesn't seem to work (although it could just be the ROM i'm currently using).

this doesn't help with "in-call, earpiece" volume. i recall that this type of change had to be done at the kernel level. i had the same issue with my Nexus One and a kernel dev boosted the output tables (or something like that) in the kernel and it made a big difference. i was hopeful that Samsung's service codes could be accessed to change in-call volumes. however, those codes don't work on the Galaxy Nexus.
Hmm. Flashed dsp manager and now it force closes every time i try and open it. Any way to get it working or at least remove it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
This has been covered in depth. Install equalizer or volume+, and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for all audio, ringers, notifications, and music. But call volume will stay the same.
So it does work with ICS?
I used volume+. Out the box volume is low. For each setting i put it on the one after the *warning*. Does its job.
Equalizer is my favorite over volume+... and yes the both work on ice cream. Works excellent.
So its just called equalizer??
Does it have some other options over the earpiece also?
Thanks guys. I've thrown a few thanks hits around too. = )
Cheers.
Equalizer by smart apps. Great app.
I use volume + and works great. I got the paid version. These are my settings and its loud I have to turn my phone down at work cuz when it rings its loud as hell lol.

edit file for increase volume?

i guess this is basically a general android question, but is there a file somewhere on system that allows you to manually increase the max volume? i thought i read somewhere in these forums (perhaps aokp or codename discussion threads) about someone editing a file (like build.prop or something) to allow for higher volume. i checked the build.prop on my toshiba thrive and didn't see any volume settings.
This is a good question..
I searched the Web and found this guide which may be promising. I may try this myself this evening. Hopefully it works!

EDIT: Apparently there's also an app called Volume+ which works with the E4GT that does it for you.

apparently those files don't exist anymore.
i tried volume+, but no bueno.
I don't know your knowledge or skill level but look in /system/etc/audio
There are settings in the files for delays, volume gain, well - everything really. If you're unsure what you're doing then just make a copy of every file in there just in case something go haywire so you can replace the one you edit with the original.
One of the settings, I think for level gain is at "-12" Also, if your ears start bleeding because you set something too high - I'm not responsible.
Haven't tested it on the sgs but this was accomplished through kernel modifications on my evo. I assume things would be no different here.
Bump any luck here? I tried volume + but it only boosts the volume a very small amount. My old phone had several kernels with volume enhancements, can't believe one has not been made for this phone yet.
Not sure exactly how it was done. But in the evo 3d forums they used qpst to change the maximum volume to a higher volume because the speaker isn't loud at all

I know these all though Now I'm on MTK soc custom ROM which lacks engineering mode through which I can get the maximum volume of my headphones or speaker.
So I tried to find out file like other SoC does like Samsung to edit in almost all possible system directory but no luck.

My VolumeSwipe lets you adjust the volume by swiping along the edge of the screen in the small number of apps that it supports. It has a boost mode which lets you increase the volume beyond the OS settings. So one option, though not a very convenient one, is to install VolumeSwipe and turn on its boost mode. Then in Netflix, just swipe up to increase volume to 120% (say). When you're done watching the movie, swipe back down to a normal volume level before exiting Netflix.
I haven't tried VolumeSwipe on the E4GT as I designed it exclusively for the Kindle Fire (which needs something like it since it doesn't have volume keys), so the screen layout may look bad on a smaller screen, but it's worth trying.
If you find that VolumeSwipe gives you the kind of volume setting you like, you can post back in this thread and ask me nicely to add an option to remember the volume levels in the supported apps and to restore outside of them. This way, each time you start up Netflix (or one of the other supported apps--there aren't many) you'll get the same volume level, and when you leave Netflix, you'll get a default level.
Alternately, per-app volume-boost would be a nice feature to add to my per-app settings app.
Thank you!! Boosts enough in Netflix. If you can add option of remembering volume levels I am asking nicely! Really.
Thanks for all your effort,
Doc
actually that would be very nice and a nice feature im sure every1 could enjoy....also if you could the volume maxes out at 140 im not sure if im getting the same results as the guy above me lol but im getting miminal boost im thinking 175% would be perfect.

I worry that it might damage the speakers.
I decided to do this not with VolumeSwipe (which I recommend uninstalling), but instead with my in-development PerApp app, which lets you set different per-application settings.
PerApp 0.01 lets you control Volume Boost and Orientation Lock.
To set Netflix to a louder volume, run PerApp. Select Netflix. Choose "Boost". Set a volume level like "6" (=140% in VolumeSwipe). Back out of the setting. Then check off "Active".
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. You can download from here. Source code is in the repository.
1 possible solution
My OS: Win 7
My default browser: Firefox
My solution:
Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound >
Under "Sound" (do not click the actual Sound link) click > Adjust system volume
If you see your browser present, increase the sound for it.

What do we know about the JB low speaker volume?

So, many of you are aware of how abysmally low the speaker volume is on the phone after getting the JB update. Unfortunately all the information on it is scattered among several different posts and threads, and I just wanted to get some clear answers and use this as an informational post for others who are annoyed by this bug.
What, if anything, do we know about why it happens? Is there a definitive fix system-wide, or do I have to use volume boosting apps? I run franco kernel, are there going to be any compatibility issues with proposed fixes? I like using mostly stock JB, can I get a ROM that makes minimal changes to the original while still fixing the volume issue?
After randomly doing a search for volume fix a few minutes ago I saw this. Did search for same exact reason (gnex 4.1.1). Awesome beats (one of multiple equalizer apps) is said to work. I'm gonna try it in the morning (so as not to have a very annoyed girlfriend at 4am). There's probably a good amount more info on this. As for the last part..pure-ish 4.1.1 aosp Roms are very pleasing...like buttah lol.

If you have Franco.kernel, download his app from the play store (it costs a few bucks, not super expensive). In the settings tab there is an option to increase the max sound volume. I recommend setting it to 2; if you set it to 3 sometimes the sound will cut out on max volume.

I have no idea if this is correct information or not, so take it with a grain of salt, but I read earlier today in the Franco thread that that setting only affects the headphone volume, not speaker volume. I can tell you it does nothing for the volume on my GNex (speaker). I love this phone dearly, but I absolutely hate the low volume. I never have music on my phone, but I use the speaker phone multiple times a day while at work in my truck. I've yet to find a fix that actually increases the speaker volume on calls, and I've tried just about every ROM and tweak around. I'm beginning to think the people that swear some of these fixes work are just having a placebo effect.

Huh that's odd. Even the dev of the app said that Jelly bean is incompatible at the moment. I'm sure it's not working, even in paid version

The dev says it doesn't work with the system stuff (like ringtones, notifications, etc.) Works for music volume on JB though. Check it out, seems like a lot of people with various JB roms are using it successfully. It's kinda hard to be sure it's not working without trying it. I assure you..again..I'm using it..it works for music. Re-read what the dev said.

I try Volume+ on my jelly bean nexus. Only the music volume work, not the system volume (like ringtones). I missed so many call because the ringtone vol is not loud enough even at max vol level. I know I can install ROM, but I prefer stock right now.
There are no mods available as of now for boosting ringtone or notification volume for galaxy nexus on jelly bean. All the mods like awesomebeats/volume+ and also the default musicfx only work on music volume.
I have tried all the mods on all JB Roms which claim to boost ringtone volume, but none really work. The effect if at all is very marginal.
The problem lies with the way google has implemented Jelly Bean. The solution has probably go to come from them until one of the geeks here manage a workaround.
Lets see if volume+ developer manages to release a working version.
I am currently using volume+ on AOKP milestone6(ICS 4.0.4) to great effect.
There is no point in upgrading to JB unless the ringtone volume level problem is addressed. What is the use in owning a phone which you cannot here ringing.
Really need a stock solution. The reason I have the Galaxy Nexus is to avoid flashing madness with the stock experience. Is it a tracked bug?

I could not find a way to lodge a formal bug report to google about this.
