Volume+ v1.8.1.0 Release - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey everyone!
I received my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and have been working on a more ICS ‘optimised’ version for you all (It should work better on Gingerbread/Honeycomb too)!
There’s nothing massively exciting that’s been added but it should be a nice improvement over 1.8.0.6.
A list of updates can be found below!
What’s New in 1.8.1.0?
- Attempt at some ICS optimisations
- Added a check for phones with ICS (takes you to sound settings to enable Volume+ in Meida Effects)
- App starts differently (should be more reliable)
- App should be more ‘persistant’ (see above)
- EQ values completely changed
- Volume levels completely changed
- Higher volumes now available (up to +20)
- Louder volumes should now be attainable
- EQ Band frequencies now shown
- Removed title bar
- Fixed orientation issue
- 'What's New' option on the main page removed (click version number to access change log)
- Broken EQ settings (from the first Beta) now fixed
Known Bugs
- Virtual Room Effects and Bass Boost don’t currently work on ICS (investigating)

My app is available for free on my website or for 99p on the Android Market.
Enjoy!

anyone get this to work on IN CALL volume?
my speaker volume is perfect on the current market version of V+, but when driving, even on speakerphone it's so low i can't hear anything and i'm hoping maybe one of you can tell me if this will boost that volume.

just asking again, has anyone been able to boost in call volume with this.

Unfortunately you still can't boost the in-call volume (earpiece or speakerphone) with the AudioEffects API. This seems to be a limitation Google put in place.
You can change the Build.prop to increase the number of in-call volume steps but it doesn't necessarily increase the sound, more like allows you to 'fine-tune' the volume. Although, on ICS, it only seems to work once. The linux command to remove the line doesn't seem to work (although it could just be the ROM i'm currently using).

blah that sucks. it's fine pretty much everywhere for me except in the car on the highway because my car is so damn loud (crappy piece of junk). Guess it's time to buy a bluetooth headset or speakerphone.
thanks for the reply.

What settings are people using on their Nexus?
WoW, I was a fan of Equalizer over Volume+ but am defecting over to this new Beta V+ Camp. The Equalizer having no auto start was a pain anyway.
The thing gets loud enough to make the speaker distort and go into cut out if pushed more. It looks like Sammy added a protection circuit. Amazing.
Scared me, I thought I blew her. But after backing out she came back. It cuts out to a super low level and will not respond until you correct or reset.
I adjusted while listening to a known strong .mp3 on my phone. Coolio's Gansta Paradise.
Eq Type = Rock
No Room Effect
Volume Level - +14 (Distorts @ 15 and cuts out @ 16 & Above)
No Base enhance
No Equlaizer. (Move those sliders over too much and she cuts out)

I would think the equalizer would apply to headsets. The little speaker on the GN is hardly something to fine tune eh?
OK. Maybe I'm just stupid ... or too old because you know .. over 40 your brain just goes but all the sounds, music and whatnot are really loud and I like this BUT one of the things I thought that Volume+ would do is make all sounds louder. I would REALLY like the lock sounds to be as loud as say .. an SMS notification but even with Volume+ they are not ... so light I can barely hear them. Is there a setting for this I am missing? Or is it just the volume the lock sounds are recorded at?
Anybody else having problems with the EQ Settings for the speaker? I can't change it to Good Quality - keeps changing to treble boost instead.

Hi,
Testing since a few days, downloaded from: http://androidaudiohacks.com/ .Credit to him
Good, but for me doesn't set on boot...,just that for me...
In any case the dev of volume+ have a Gnex
I always used volume+ since my Desire HD,HTC Sensation (on CM7 which come with Dsp Manager, but i have never seen any improvements, specially for ringtones/notifications).
I've posted a comparo with Dsp manager/Volume+ before the beta in a thread in that section...
You can always use some settings like the previous version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362335 ,work great for me...+ check "Speaker Modifications" and in Advanced Settings set also "Speaker Modifications",for both "Volume level" is not bad set to 8 with the above values ,also depend what you set in settings/sound...
I've not tested "Virtual Room Effect",the dev says it's not work...So i've not tested
Enjoy, thanks to Meltus (the dev),Since he has a Gnex i think Volume+ will be better
Link is dead ):

If it helps... (Some settings can be adjusted, like Volume Level):
Don't forget that:
Works great for me,ringtones and notifications are greatly improved ,for me Dsp Manager never does not "allow" this (especially for improve notifications/ringtones)...
I hope i did not forget anything
And let the dev improve the settings for his app,he has its Gnex since a few days...

anyone else getting FC after installing when trying to enter the Music Effects screen in Sound Settings?

low volume on nexus

Hi All
I've recently come over from the Desire S forum, was running a custom rom, and before that i had a rather unfortunate love affair with blackberries!
well i've got my hands on a Galaxy Nexus and i LOVE the phone! however the only downside is that this phone is really really really quiet....
its running on teh 4.0.2 update, build number ICL53F, and I've tried searching but can't seem to find a fix for this....
i'm struggling to hear the other person when i'm sitting in a library and my alarm barely manages to stir me in the mornings!
help!!!
Why not search? Install equalizer or volume+ and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for ringer, notifications, music and audio.

Volume+ is great... it's useful beyond the nexus as well. Made a big difference on our Nook Colors
I did search, and read about both of these apps, however I was thinking more along the lines of perhaps an ACTUAL FIX which fixes this issue in the nexus rather than just an app that boosts the volume...
thanks for the suggestions guys..

If there's an actual fix (which I'm sure there is) it'll probably be in an OTA.

I don't see any difference using Volume+ or at least i can't tell!

at a bare minimum, you should set your ringer/notifications at +4. I've used +6 for the past month and it's been fine.
I got it working with a reboot, +5 or similiar looks just fine
well those apps are a fix. Google exposed the audio api's after gingerbread for anyone to raise system audio output. So these apps just tie into the system audio and raise it as much as you like. Only call volume is not exposed. Sure maybe google will raise the volume in an update soon. But using apps that use the audio api really is the same thing.
The latest ota leak increased volume.

Low Speaker Volume "Ringer/Earpiece"

Hey guys,
Quick one on ringing volume on the Gnex...so dam low! Can hardly hear it. The earpiece is only just acceptable also.
Any ideas??
Unrooted 4.0.2. Gnex
Thanks in advance! =)
kind of hoping someone gives us a clue. Thats my only slight gripe low speaker volume, I thought one of the updates had a supposed fix but im here with 4.0.2 and nothing

you can buy it, and try it out. you have a 15 minute refund window.

this doesn't help with "in-call, earpiece" volume. i recall that this type of change had to be done at the kernel level. i had the same issue with my Nexus One and a kernel dev boosted the output tables (or something like that) in the kernel and it made a big difference. i was hopeful that Samsung's service codes could be accessed to change in-call volumes. however, those codes don't work on the Galaxy Nexus.
Hmm. Flashed dsp manager and now it force closes every time i try and open it. Any way to get it working or at least remove it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
This has been covered in depth. Install equalizer or volume+, and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for all audio, ringers, notifications, and music. But call volume will stay the same.
So it does work with ICS?
I used volume+. Out the box volume is low. For each setting i put it on the one after the *warning*. Does its job.
Equalizer is my favorite over volume+... and yes the both work on ice cream. Works excellent.
So its just called equalizer??
Does it have some other options over the earpiece also?
Thanks guys. I've thrown a few thanks hits around too. = )
Cheers.
Equalizer by smart apps. Great app.
I use volume + and works great. I got the paid version. These are my settings and its loud I have to turn my phone down at work cuz when it rings its loud as hell lol.

So I'm trying g to decide without knowing what one works aswell as what one is better.....dilemma!! Haha.

One other thing, is the Gnex speaker capable of going louder without damage??
also make sure you go to sound settings > music effects and choose volume +. a lot of people who don't notice a difference in volume have missed that essential step

My VolumeSwipe lets you adjust the volume by swiping along the edge of the screen in the small number of apps that it supports. It has a boost mode which lets you increase the volume beyond the OS settings. So one option, though not a very convenient one, is to install VolumeSwipe and turn on its boost mode. Then in Netflix, just swipe up to increase volume to 120% (say). When you're done watching the movie, swipe back down to a normal volume level before exiting Netflix.
I haven't tried VolumeSwipe on the E4GT as I designed it exclusively for the Kindle Fire (which needs something like it since it doesn't have volume keys), so the screen layout may look bad on a smaller screen, but it's worth trying.
If you find that VolumeSwipe gives you the kind of volume setting you like, you can post back in this thread and ask me nicely to add an option to remember the volume levels in the supported apps and to restore outside of them. This way, each time you start up Netflix (or one of the other supported apps--there aren't many) you'll get the same volume level, and when you leave Netflix, you'll get a default level.
Alternately, per-app volume-boost would be a nice feature to add to my per-app settings app.
Thank you!! Boosts enough in Netflix. If you can add option of remembering volume levels I am asking nicely! Really.
Thanks for all your effort,
Doc
actually that would be very nice and a nice feature im sure every1 could enjoy....also if you could the volume maxes out at 140 im not sure if im getting the same results as the guy above me lol but im getting miminal boost im thinking 175% would be perfect.

I worry that it might damage the speakers.
I decided to do this not with VolumeSwipe (which I recommend uninstalling), but instead with my in-development PerApp app, which lets you set different per-application settings.
PerApp 0.01 lets you control Volume Boost and Orientation Lock.
To set Netflix to a louder volume, run PerApp. Select Netflix. Choose "Boost". Set a volume level like "6" (=140% in VolumeSwipe). Back out of the setting. Then check off "Active".
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. You can download from here. Source code is in the repository.
1 possible solution
My OS: Win 7
My default browser: Firefox
My solution:
Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound >
Under "Sound" (do not click the actual Sound link) click > Adjust system volume
If you see your browser present, increase the sound for it.

[Q] Volume Boost Jelly Bean

Anyone gotten any form of volume boost to work with Jelly Bean yet?
The standard Nexus volume is bad enough but the new very nice sounding Text to Speech voice is also quieter than the old one.
I can barely hear Nav giving me directions with no radio on in the car anymore.
FYI, I already purchased Volume+ for ICS but it doesn't make any change to the volume in JB.

I just tested with Volume+ free and its working. CDMA Gnex, Liquid Vicious v2 with stock JB kernel. Toggling on and off with a song playing, so I'm sure its not placebo.
If you would like I could make a video of it obviously changing my max volume level. I have the paid version of volume+ and have CDMA as well.

I've seen varying results. I couldn't get it to work for me. One person said to make sure you check it in the settings under sound settings. Still didn't work for me. I did the volume hack in Franco.kernel app which worked.

I will check but it sounds like the Team Liquid might be for CDMA? I'll go see if they have a GSM version as well. Also, I thought the franco.Kernel volume increase was only for headphones...guess I'll give that a shot as well.

Can you confirm that it is working SYSTEM WIDE? We all know it works for music apps, but It does not work for notifications/ringtones.... Neither does any other eq on the market.
Again, they all work for music but not for notifications/ringtones. I agree with the op, I am hearing impaired, and a long time android user. I can garuntee that these eq's are not working system wide, Maybe with app updates to conform to the api or some lib changes it will be working again, but until then we are stuck with low system wide volume.
Don't mean to be rude but the op is looking for help as am I and it does not help to come to these threads and everyone says "mine works fine" when in reality they do not understand what the op is asking.

+1 It drives me nuts when people oversimplify issues and mislead everyone. Just because a fix might work to increase volume for music, doesn't mean that it increases the volume for notifications, or ringtones, or anything else for that matter.
Ok- I tried both the Volume + and the Franco Kernel hack. It's really hard to compare them, but here's what I got:
The Volume+ app increases volume for music, but not for anything else.
The Franco Kernel hack increases volume for music, but it seems to be less than the Volume+ app. It might increase the ringtone and notification volume, but I can't really be sure- the change was minimal that it was hard to even determine if it even existed.
That being said, the change on both is minimal but exists, at least for music.
It is indeed working for music but not notifications!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I stumbled upon a temporary fix. I installed Volume+ and set the volume to +4. Then download Zeltus and search for "loud". Download the loudest ringtones and alarms and notifications you can find and use them.
EDIT: This fix does not raise the volume on phone calls.
