If one could get a digital signal out of the phone one could create an amazing sound quality by linking it with a D/A converter that also contains an amplifier, like Fiio E17, that I have just bought.
Here is a link that claims it to work for CyanogenMod7 nightlies, with an OTG cable, see http://www.head-fi.org/t/571944/ot-digital-out-on-android-phone/15. I think that DHD should be able to do the OTG trick, right?
I do not have an USB OTG cable yet, but I can get one.
Does anyone have experience with OTG on DHD? And have anyone tried to take out a digital sound signal?
The potential for real quality sound will be huge, so I will be very interested in this if it could work, and I assume that I would not be the only HIFI freak here? Which ROM should I try?
Hi henrylar
I have the Fiio E17 and an OTG USB cable. I tried the latest Cyanogen nightly build and Icecreamsandwich roms and no dice with getting a digital signal from my DHD to the E17.
If anyone else has any ideas please post here - its killing me not being able to use my lovely DAC,
If you guys are patient you can test USB otg on upcoming snb ics sense release

I haven't really found anything on google with a quick search but maybe there is a bluetooth audio reciever with a digital-out?
/edit:
I totally missready the first post. But i was looking at my bluetooth clip (which has a 3.5mm jack and sort of looks like a black ipod shuffle) and thought "bluetooth transmits audio digital, so that would be your best bet right now".
Hi shaky156 - I had a look in the development section and couldn't find any ROM named snb ics sense release or similar. Has it not been released yet or did I miss it?
Cheers
And Dlog - Im gonna have a look for a bluetooth audio reciever with a digital-out

Its already been released, its the First Ever Official ICS sense to desire hd, threads closed due to drama, not everythings running on that build yet and USB otg is there just not finished in that build, there will be an update (snb short for shake n bake lol)

Thanks shaky156 for clearing that up
Sorry to hear about the drama and thanks for letting us know about the upcoming update. I will keep a look out for it every day
thank you very much for the replys. For some reaons this thread disappeared for me, I now found it via google, strange?
I now have got my Fiio e17, and try to be patient for the solutions. There is also work going on with the pachakernel, I have seen that you have been there too, samtheman. But an ICS solution would be very interesting!
Well between the 2 of us bumping each others threads henrylar, hopefully we might get somewhere
When we get there it will be worth it!

Hi everyone, quick word to all that these are working with the SGSII. No need to wait until Samsung release them in 1-2 months, and at 6x the price!
Clove Blog will have my video proof up in a couple of hours.
Only enough power to supply pendrives, but drives with their own power supplies, or drives connected to the phone via an externally powered HUB, will work.
Read speeds are fast enough to watch 1080p content.
Unfortunately USB keyboard/mouse, and two different USB gamepads were a fail.
If only I knew a place I could post this where there might be devs around who could read it and make USB gamepad support happen...

Thanks mate, just bought it...
No worries!
Did you see the official ones are priced to sell at like 12pounds!
can it work with a memory card reader?
If the card reader doesn't draw too much power. I tried with one and it didn't work, but if I plug it into my externally powered USB hub then it works fine.
Updated first post with the requisite video proof.
Do you have a link for that dell keyboard & mouse you used in the video?.. it looks great
The Dell Mouse is freely available, I got mine for a song on Ebay.
The keyboard is awesome, but sadly no longer made. Its a Dell-branded 'iGo Stowaway Ultraslim" keyboard, has a truly great hinge mechanism and folds down to next to nothing. You may be able to find it somewhere, but last time I checked I couldn't find any. There are lots of cheap HID profile BT keyboards out there, check my thread in the Galaxy S forums - lots of people confirmed various ones working.
Amazing! excellent video and info
it was nice to also demo the BT keyboard & mouse
thanks
OP, thank you!
Are you rooted? Anything special needed to do the bluetooth? Anything special other than the adapter cable needed for the USB memory stick?
@OP = great post and very informative video

Yep, its Rooted, but that was only for app restoration. There are no mods or hacks applied, everything you're seeing is stock functionality.

or desire ;p
I don't think either the Desire or the Galaxy S will do USB OTG (although the Desire may have it baked into a custom ROM, because I know it was enabled in the Nexus 1 with a mod, I don't know enough about Desire custom ROMs to know).
The original Galaxy S does support bluetooth keyboard and mouse though (I have a demo of that in my youtube channel also).
Quick ?
Can you use the BT keyboard without the virtual one popping up?
Hope they release the USB on the go cable ASAP!!!. Thank you very much for the video, it made me get more ansious to get one of this cables and be able to connect my external hard drive full of MKV files.

Great news....
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any aftermarket gamepads/keyboards that can attach to the Galaxy via bluetooth/micro usb.
This is due to my friend showing off his Xperia Play, which obviously isn't quite the phone that the SGS2 is. But bragging rights are always nice.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I've had a look at Zeemote JS1, MSI Chainpus BGP100, Phonejoy and iControlPad. None are what I'm after, I was picturing something that transforms the phone into something similar to the Xperia Play, but it doesn't seem to exist
Phonejoy. There's a thread about it here and it can be bought here.
Thanks
I was thinking more along the lines of something smaller, that attaches to the device? I understand that there probably isn't anything out there. But it could be something to look forward to as the phone becomes more popular
Towards the end of the thread the icontrolpad is mentioned. I don't think there's much else that works yet though.
I'd like a phonejoy personally, but that's to hook up to my 50" plasma and MHL adaptor, not really a great portable system!

That would be quite nice! It could also work well with my ASUS TF101. I guess we'll have to give it time, or give up
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it
I've always thought about getting a Gamepad then the HDMI cable. Basically playing Emulators on the big screen. That basically be making your phone a game system.
I'm running CyanogenMod, because I love it. But they haven't sorted the HDMI drivers, so I haven't got a cable yet. What would the display look like on a 32" LCD or 50" LCD? That's quite a resolution stretch!

Pretty damned good actually. Have a look at NZtechfreak's mhl gaming review on the clove blog.
I've only used mine a couple of times so far and the hd videos I've had looked sensational.
That's brilliant! I'd best get on that

Exactly my thinking too. And with phones due out next year having such powerful processors they become the perfect multi-use device.

Have a read through some of NZtechfreak's other threads to see discussion about MHL, USB OTG, extended batteries, gamepads etc. He does user based tech reviews for Clove so is pretty knowledgeable and has access to some pretty good gear.
Edit:
Check out Phonejoy's website - they've now got MHL cables (adaptor with a 1.5m hdmi cable).

Will do, I was thinking about getting an extended battery. (Samsung just released a 2000 MaH)
But I'd need a new skin for the back cover. I'm using this one right now with the Matte finish and I love it! http://www.istyles.com/milky-way-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skin-p-70295.html
if we're talking about gamepads,
is it possible to connect the wiimote as a mouse/keyboard?
I found Wii Controller IME but it doesnt works for me.

From memory it has been discussed before and the answer was no. At the moment the search function is down so I can't even find the thread for you...
Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please note, search is down nightly from 12:30AM Eastern / 4:30AM UTC for approximately 20-30 minutes.
Edit:
It apparently works with CyanogenMOD and MIUI. It won't run on anything based on the stock firmware.

Right now, the CyanogenMod and MUIU roms don't have fully functional bluetooth drivers, due to the sheer complexity in writing them. Team Hacksung is working on this though, as far as I'm aware the only part of bluetooth that is working is file transfer.

Are you sure (I guess you are though!)? After reading through some of the threads yesterday it seemed as if people already had them working. I guess I misread/misunderstood.
I need to get some cash together to get a phonejoy, have been wanting one for a while now (just hard to justify!!).
I'm not 100% sure. That was my interpretation. I've decided to get an MHL adapter, and a Phonejoy. They'll fix the drivers eventually if they're not working already
Wiimotes etc do work with MIUI and CM already, lots of user reports confirming this.
MHL doesn't work though, and considering TV Out in the original SGS was a problem for CM developers (still not working as far as I'm aware), it may be some time before they sort out that aspect for us with our SGSIIs.
Well I just bought both, I might go back to a Samsung rom. CyanogenMod has been less than impressive with updates lately
EDIT: Is this as impressive as it sounds?

Sweet, a visit from the much quoted man himself. Now you can answer questions without me having to locate your old threads.
Having no MHL is a major for me. Why bother with a wiimote if you're playing on a 4.3" screen... Just my opinion of course. I'd much rather the Phonejoy/MHL combo.
His reviews sold me
It was a pleasure, gentlemen.
Hello good folks of the Evo forum. I just got my daughter one of these bad boys on the cheap, and wanted to turn it into a super sexy media player. I typically hang out on the incredible, and nook color forums, but needed some advice from the seasoned vets here. I want the hdmi out to function, and bluetooth to function, what would be the best set up? I read that the hdmi is broke after 2.3.3... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....
HDMI should work with the stock 2.3.3 ROM but the issue is that it was never intended to work except in the Gallery app.
If you want to use the HDMI for other purposes (Netflix, etc) you can do that with the stock ROM if you update the kernel to one supporting Full HDMI Mirroring. I know that this works with Freedom and I believe that ChopSuey also supports this.
You could also try the hdmi win app in the market, by team win; that should work on gingerbread.
Thanks guys. Found the info on YouTube, and forgot to post the info here. Really gonna make my daughters Christmas, again thanks

Hi guys,
I want to buy one of the new philips fidelio docking stations for android phones.
Did somebody have it or tested it??
i think that im getting the AS851 for about 170 euro.
If you have one or tested one i would appreciate it if you leave a review or something like that.
Sorry I can't post a link.
I appreciate your thread, but please, attempt at posting a link...
Google(.)com or some **** like that.
http://www.slashgear.com/philips-fidelio-as851-review-18196468/
Here's a review of the AS851
hmm upon further reading it appears i must have overlooked the fact that the device plays audio over bluetooth, not what i was expecting or wanting sadly
after a little bit of searching found this
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/30/gear4-speaker-dock-supports-usb-audio-for-jelly-bean-at-google-i/
seems like it could have a future, not much is said for the quality of the sound. Did not know that all version of android minus JB did not support playing of docked audio via usb no wonder it felt like no one was supporting or building anything for android.....
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, more waiting sadly for a perfect bedside unit
I have been reading about this car stereo since CES and cant wait to purchase it. Though I can't find any information on whether the Galaxy Nexus will be compatible with the app. It was announced that the SGIII would receive it but has anyone heard about the G Nex getting it? If not, hopefully the dev community will be able to port it over...Here is a link to the actual stereo...

Why not get this one...

It runs on android is btw.
Double din comes out later this year.
Sent from my Maguro
I considered that one before the Sony one was announced. I like that I would possibly be able to control Rdio on a large screen and it connect to my steering wheel controls (with an added accessory) and not have to fumble with my phone. Plus the option of my passengers being able to watch DVD's and Netflix is pretty cool.
Ya that would be nice for em. As far as the release and the features of the double din I'm not positive but its in the works. I work at a car audio shop and we had a webinar with them and said it was gonna be bahdass. Also the pioneer aporadio 2 has HDMI output and has optional MHL cable for android
... also it would be sick if it were possible to root and develop a custom from for a radio. Seems interesting not sure if source would be available though lol. I know they had updates on there sight but don't remember seeing code. They gotta give us something though
Sent from my Maguro
Ah yeah it would be amazing to have a custom rom on a car stereo.
I just need a stereo that I can control Rdio and a few other music apps from so I can get over not needing/wanting the pogo car dock...
Not sure about the Sony you are talking about since the company I work for doesn't carry it but anything with Bluetooth a2dp is the way to go as far as android goes the USB interface sucks for android devices reads ringtones and pretty much every audio file there is as well as shows every folder you have. Not to mention I can't connect to a single deck through USB because of mtp . So yeah. I would highly recconend actually testing the head unit you are interested in and make sure it works the way you want it to because car audio is pretty depressing when it comes to android compatability
Sent from my Maguro
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I will wait for a local car audio store here in Houston to have one on display first.
Ya that's definitely the way to go about it. like I said car audio hasn't shown android no love... everything is made for apple -.-

Awesome, Houston here too. I have been looking for more info on Mirrorlink as well. I started this thread trying to gather some, but not much headway has been made. I cancelled my EVO 4G LTE because it was not advertised with Mirrorlink compatibility. Waiting for Sprint to get the SIII next month hopefully.
http://www.mp3car.com/android-table...ink-xav601bt-701hd-android-ish-head-unit.html
I am very interested in this myself and since Nokia is the most supported brand I am hoping that we will see some Windows Phone compatibility in the near future. I did think it was pretty funny that all the phones supported except one were Symbian though, I thought Symbian was on the outs.
FYI the XAV-601BT is out now.
But nobody reviewed that device yet
Has anyone tried pairing a mirrorlink enabled phone to the head unit and test it out? Im planning to buy this head unit in the next quarter so i'd like some advices.

HI, just as an alternative, i bought the Alpine ICS X8 with mirror link, as yet it doesnt support my galaxy s3...
The Sony XAV-601BT just received a firmware update (get it at the Sony support site) that adds support for the Galaxy S3. I can't tell you much about it as I have the Nexus. Hopefully some ROM devs start to incorporate MirrorLink into their OS builds. From what I read in another thread, it isn't as easy as just getting the APK from the S3.
