So I bought this case before knowing that the magnet would screw up my Note. After a bit of online research, I came up with the idea of installing a snap fastener button in place of the magnet (just like the Mastige series). Looking through Etsy, I found this set of buttons:
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/71729266"]http://www.etsy.com/transaction/71729266"]http://www.etsy.com/transaction/71729266
This type of fastener is probably the more flattened type of snap fasteners. And it looks more elegant as well.
Taking the magnet out was a pain since they were glued on a piece of paper and there were 2 of them each side. Here is the final result:

This is the style man.
Looks hot.
Nice mod looks totally like it was made that way.
Looks good. Have to say I love the aged leather but I'm not big on the studs or embossing. My ideal case would be that one that looks like a leather bound book but they only make them for idevices
In what way did the magnet cause issues? Mine has a magnet clasp, not Mega strong though

supposedly affect s-pen accuracy. i have a small magnet on the back of my casing too, for the kickstand, but have not seen averse effects in s-pen accuracy
From what I gathered, the magnet would not cause any immediate effect due to its relative weak strength. However, over time, the S-Pen and the touch screen would be affected. I would not take any chance to find out how severe the problem will be.
is there hard evidence of this?

i have tested this with the *#0*# Sensors, and Magnetic sensor (assuming this is pointing to magnetic north) moves with my case where my magnet points to. dayum, this is a good excuse for a new case!
I am actually planning to do the exact same thing as you. Except I have the Prestige Origami Diary Series instead (attached below).
Any hints or tips that you could share as to how you went about it? I have checked your supplier link for the buttons (nice find!) and plan to purchase from them the exact same set as well. Seems like there are some useful tools included in the package already, like the button presser / holder thing.
Just a couple of quick questions if you don't mind...
How did you remove the magnets itself from inside the leather? Because I assume you cut into the leather through the top layer with a scalpel of some sort, and somehow pulled it out with tweasers?
What sort of adhesive did you use to secure the buttons in place? Using some sort of glue or just the pressure of the buttons locked together?
How long roughly did this whole process take you?

i may be wrong but i am using Zenus Vintage for few month already and havent noticed any problems yet...
Can you post a how to please?
Weird, i have the exact same case and it comes without magnet..

There are two versions. You have the latest one.
Where do you buy the new version?
EDIT: Found it at http://zenuscaseusa.com/samsung-galaxy-note-prestige-vintage-g-note-diary.html
the funny thing is that i bought this case with magnetic closure a few days ago without knowing that there is a version with a snap fastener. The good thing is that i bought it for 27.99 dollars from ebay.com. i guess i will have to apply a snap fastener myself.

Hi, has anyone purchased the "alu-leather book style proporta" case yet?... or anything similar?
Any feedback is appreciated..
thanks
yes.....and its 100 times better than the standard case......fits perfectly on the device....all buttons are not covered by the case and u also dont have to take the unit out of the case to use as a phone or pda.....highly recommended
Really... what about the fit... I mean judging from the pictures alone it seems as if the unit is only held in place by the four stubs. Is that enough to hold the unit in place securely? Because I don't want the unit to fall out of the case(being 1,000 dollars plus) when it is on my belt! And how many credit cards can it hold?
Thanks for your feedback irv777!
thats what i first thought as well but theres actually a plastic transparent sleeve which holds the unit itself...the keyboard side actually slides through the sleeve to keep it in place....i'll post some pics soon if u like
Can you type through the plastic?
of course......its designed that way so u dont have to take the unit out.....
Pictures would be great if you don't mind. How many credit cards can it hold? 'cause I am thinking of using it as my wallet as well.... tired of lugging around too many things... that is why we got a ppcp in the first place...hehe..
thanks again
theres two slots for sd cards and maybe 2-3 credit cards.....but i dont think u can use it as a wallet as the slots are too tight....
sold...just bought one...hehe... thanks now my jasjar will be safely protected...
Umm, I am not sold yet because of the plastic thngy over the keyboard.
How does it change the feel of the keyboard? Can you still feel the separate keys? Can you feel the bumps on F and J? How hard/soft/think/thin is the plastic? Does it cause neighbouring keys to be pressed by accident?

no, the plastic cover does not affect the neighbouring keys at all......i had the same thought like you but when you actually start using the keyboard it feels like the plastic is not even there.....precise keying as before.....well i didnt feel any difference anyway.....
here it is with the plastic cover...

Great! Thanks irv777. Going to the proporta site now.
I found these cases which suspiciously look like the PDAir cases which suspiciously look like the Proporta cases. Only $17.95, half price of Proporta.
Of course I have no idea what the service is like or we would be getting what we see in the pictures. Just that they look like the same cases and the pouch case have better pictures than that of Proporta.
http://pdaden.com/shop/cart.php?target=search&substring=mda+pro
yeh i know what u mean....and also thats exactly like mine......i got mine from ebay by the way..
Well, I ordered mine (I got the pouch version).
We'll see what happens. The company is in HK, so I have no idea how long it will take for regular parcel mail to reach US.
Where's the belt clip? How can you carry this in shorts and T-Shirt?
theres a detachable belt clip that screws on the back of the case just under the camera hole and the actual clip-on that attaches to ur belt/shorts watever.....
Great irv777,
off to eBay...
this is where i bought it from......

Does anyone have one of these for the Tab 10.1? If so, how is the coverage on it and are you happy w/ it? I've seen some posts about phones, but Want to know if the sides of the tab are protected enough and if the screen portion is any good on a tablet?
check pictures of it on an ipad or any other tablet, i believe the result is the same.

I looked at pics of the Pad and the corners are cut out. I don't like that at all. The pics on their site are photoshopped and you can't tell anything from that.
I just got mine today from amazon. Check the last page in the mega case thread. I like it. Anything will add some amount of weight/thickness. This one fits really well. I'm keeping it.

I just got mine today and I'm extremely satisfied with it so far.
The fit is absolutely perfect from edge to edge, on all the corners, and around the camera and flash. I'm actually astounded that they managed to get the measurements so perfect; it covers the entire back without overlapping the little gap between the back panel and the trim around the edge of the device.
It also adds a little bit more of a grippy feel to the back, even moreso than the metallic grey back (which is what I have), so it feels like it will be a little easier to hang onto the Tab and not drop it.
However, you're not going to find any protection for the edges with the Gelaskin, and the front piece will not protect your screen either; it simply covers the bezel around the screen. I didn't apply the front piece because I felt like it would be more distracting than the black bezel and it also won't line up with the Gelaskins wallpaper if you rotate the Tab. But if you wanted to apply the front piece, it does have cut-outs for the front-facing camera and the ambient light sensor.
If you're looking for more complete coverage you should definitely consider something else. Personally, I just wanted something that would look nice and protect the back side from scratches when I put the Tab down on a surface, and for that purpose the Gelaskin is perfect. It also adds no bulk and I bet it would easily fit inside of a case if you wanted to do something like Gelaskin on the back + transparent TPU case and maybe a screen protector for more complete protection. At that point the Gelaskin would just be there for looks, though.
Here's a couple photos of mine:
The photo of the camera/flash makes it look like the skin is not perfectly aligned around the flash, but this is just because of the angle at which I took the photo. It's actually aligned just as perfectly as it is around the camera.
If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer them.
If people are buying from the gelaskins.com website, then they should put in 500PXSKINS and save 15%. I am debating if I should get one.
I just saw these on the net and came here to see if anybody had gotten one. I really like the idea of these. Perhaps even a custom one as none of the models available is tacky and loud enough for my tastes. Oh, the possibilities.
Very much grateful for the pics and reviews. I think ill bite. I like to here things like the fit is so good I don't know how they did it. Thanks again.
REVIEW IS HERE
I've found this on ebay.
It's pretty and cheap and i'm probably going to buy it (and if, i'll post here a depth review), but
QUESTION:
Can the magnetic closure ruin the phone? i mean by interferences or so
Thanks.

Thanks! I've also found some thread related to other phones and the conclusion is the same.
I'll let you know.
I was wondering the exact same thing just the other day. The blackberry pouches have a magnet to cater to its auto shut off feature. But seeing that the G-nex does not have this feature, would the magnet cause any internal damage?

I just received the item and the magnets seems to be strong enough to keep the cover closed but not to interfere with the phone. Plus the screen doesn't seems to be attracted by the magnets.
I'll post a review this evening.
It would.be.cool.if we could make this like the iPad and power on when opened.
Looking forward to your review.
i like the concept of these, but, not sure if i would like having to open something every time i would need to use my phone. not to mention i don't think i would like trying to talk on it and the flap covering half my face or credit cards falling out. and then i would have to pop it out every time i get in the car to put it in my dock.
cool idea though. i would consider it if it just had a cash-stash and cc slots on the back side without the flap
CASE REVIEW (a sort of)
PROs
- The phone fits perfectly in the case.
- The magnets don't seem to interfere with anything.
- The front cover bends without any problem and doesn't slap my face while calling.
- The screen is very well protected
CONs
- The plastic inner case doesn't have proper top and bottom sides leaving the phone quite unprotected there as you can see from the photos.
- The credit card pocket sewing can mark the screen, but it's nothing permanet.
Let me know if you have more questions.

A solution is to use the proximity sensor but I think that if it was feasible then someone would have already done it.
If you buy a rear cover cradle type case it's pretty easy (maybe) to glue some covering and include a flap.

How does the finish look like?
hand made cases is always good u just need time to finish it all . thats why people prefer buying one than making one
thanks look cool but the time invested seems a bit much for finding something similar for $4. On the otherhand i am always up for DIY projects and i always thought of doing something similar to this for a case but adding a LED circuit of some sort into it. That case would def not be found anywhere else.
Time investment isn't a consideration for people intelligent enough to have thrown away their TV sets. <snicker> <snicker> Some folk prefer to spend such time doing hobby stuff like leather carving, RC model building, glass blowing, pottery, sewing, computer graphics, writing, reading, and so on and so forth.
Adding LED or LCD to a case might be fun. I can't imagine what I would hook them up to though. As indicator lights they would be redundant. Maybe as text scrollers they might be interesting. They sure would add a lot of bulk for sure! I can't really fathom any use for it. <shrug>
Such a thing like this doesn't have to be made from leather. I chose leather because I wanted to recap/learn about leather carving but gluing cuts from an old pair of Levis onto some hard plastic or cardboard for the front and onto a cheap-o back shell-case for the back could work. Furs too! I have a few faun skins (pelts) that I was thinking about using for my Galaxy Note. And also the covering doesn't need to incorporate a flip cover front part. Just the back would do. And in that case starting out with a white one and spray-painting or air-brushing could produce some interesting results! Using sculpey and sculpey-like products on a flat surface is easy and fun too!
Here's a progress update on mine. This is from about a week ago. The next step will be finishing the edges a bit and adding an inner surface which will be hard like a door and covered with padded microcloth.

NomNom, advice? As in "do not swallow!" or the likes? I dunno. Some phone manufacturer designs incorporate an antenna in the rear cover. So if the case you select replaces that cover, make sure it has the antenna connections.
FutureSteve, Now that's just plain weird!
Your artwork is amazing! Great job.

Well if you order directly from griffin you get this nice clearly labeled box.

Inside that box you have the box with the case in it.
(notice the Griffin in the lower left corner, knock offs won't have this)
I got a catalog with stuff for christmas gifts, a little warranty card and instructions on how to put your phone in the case.
Case has 4 pieces: Hard piece you phone sits in, Thick rubber peice goes around the back part, and the top part with the Screen Protector also the Belt Clip.
Once you get the phone in this is what it it looks like.
Hitting the menu and back button takes some getting use to but it's easy enough. The home button is very responsive same with the power and volume rockers. The screen protector feels good, not plastic like the otterbox defender. All sensors and front camera work perfectly as well as the LED light.
Back of the phone feels very secure and easy to grip.
The little flap spins out of the way and doesn't effect picture quality for me. Also the speaker is covered by a membrane of some type.
Headphone jack is easily accessible.there is also a hole for the noise cancellation up there.
I have tested both the straight headphones and a 90 degree angle tip and both fit ( not flush but enough to play music without any problems).
.
Plenty of room for your chargers and the microphone port is there at well.
Since the belt clip can be face in or face out it doubles as a very useful kick stand. And rotates 90 degrees.
Ok done with the pictures. All in all this feels like a great case for protection. It does add a bit of bulk but it's a small trade off for Military grade protecting.
Any random questions feel free to ask me.
