If you're already envious on quad core phones only imagine what's available 2 years from now after your contract is up. So I would say just hold off a bit longer and get a more powerful phone with a true HD screen cause the Epic touch will seem like a dinosaur soon.

Don't ever buy a phone!!! Never! Because as soon as you buy a phone a new and better one is announced or around the corner. If you always worry about whats next whats coming or what not, you will never be happy with your current device. I just picked up the Touch yesterday as I wanted this phone since it was announced
Then I grabbed a Nexus and swore I was going to get the GN.
Then I #cametojesus and realized that the GN wouldnt come to sprint until the end of spring at the earliest but more than likely the end of summer as it will be sprints LTE flagship device. And by then the SGS3 will have real specs out or will be anounced already and I will want that as the GN will be almost a year old by the time sprint gets it. So I realized the truths I said earlier. Stop worry about whats next. If you have to have the best of the best. Spend 500-600 every few months and get a phone shipped from overseas. When quad cores come out I'm sure they will announce phones with atleast 2 more cores. Watch videos, read reviews, go to the store and play with the phone. Then decide, can I live and like this phone until I can afford another one? Then make your decision
/endrant

I would wait until summer if your doing your 2yr upgrade.

This is great advice right here and what I would do. If no good phones are announced I would go buy a E4GT right away!

What will become of YOUR Incredible?

About a year ago I ordered this very phone I have in my hands. It showed up like a month later, but still.
The smartphone market is moving exponentially, and our options are smashing through the roof and amazing us monthly.
With all this in mind, what do you think you'll end up doing with your Incredible when you decide to upgrade? Hand it down? Sell it? Keep it as a spare? Not upgrade at all until its 100% useless?
If times are hard, I am gonna sell it for whatever its worth to put toward a new phone. With superphones hitting the 300 dollar mark, I can't justify not selling it. If I have the cash though, ill just keep it as a developer phone. I also have an idea for a custom interface for my car.

exactly.. no reason to throw the dinc out just yet.. still a very strong phone.. I have 2.. one on metropcs and the other to toy with and on backup if my current dinc dies.. still have my Hero running cm7 etc also..
The thing is. unless your wanting a larger screen etc.. I see no real reason to upgrade..outside of wanting the latest and greatest.. <---- Is a dualcore 2.3 android monster gonna get your text/email/info any quicker? Hell no..lol thats where i stand..

well im locked in till march of 2012 so Ill probably wait to till the summer of 2012 to make a choice on an upgrade. I want a 4g phone bigger screen like the thunderbolt and a daul core or possible quad core by then. If I had an upgrade to use now I'd get the thunderbolt bc its everything I want except for the dual core. I have a big decision to make in the summer though bc my family and I might switch to another carrier. I love Verizon customer service but Im paying $350 a month for six lines and only 3 lines are smart phones. But if I stay then I'll keep the Dinc in case I dont like my new phone and have to trade it away. lol
I think I'll keep my DInc as a dev phone, or to mess around with whatever ROMs are still available. I am locked in until March 2012 myself, but I may upgrade sooner, depending on desire/finances.

Lol me to i bought an ipod touch 2nd gen for nothing time to get some cash by selling it.
I have this long rectangle shadow box that i put my old phones in. I have 5 in there now and space for 4 more. So the Dinc goes in space 6 when the time is right. Although I am happy with my super awesome, tricked out Dinc!
That's easy. I use Google Voice, so it's going to stay in the apt connected to wifi and that will then become my "home phone". Conveniently both phones will have the same phone number....

Exynos 1.2 4210 vs Exynos 1.5 4212?

So Samsung has announced a new processor in their Exynos line. Seems as though they are releasing this new processor by the end of this year. Here's the link. http://phandroid.com/2011/09/29/samsung-introduces-new-1-5ghz-exynos-4212-dual-core-processor/
The question is, will this be the processor which is will be in the Nexus Prime in relation to an OMAP processor and how powerful is this SOB gonna be given the 1.2 model in the E4GT is an absolute monster as it is? Second, how overclocked do you think this new processor is or will it have unlocked overclocking potential. This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life because I am in absolute love with my E4GT but I've decided to return it and give it a month for the dust to settle. There is a heated spec war just over the horizon.
Nice find.
But what does this and all the other threads about "future phones" have to do with the E4GT? I know its comparing processors but there is an overall general forum for general talk like that.
SO sick of hearing about new stuff thats not even gonna be out for like half a year or later. I just want to enjoy the nice phone I just got. All this speculation and OOH and AHHs are just preventing people from wanting to get this phone and wait til the next big thing and makes us take a hit on development.
If you keep waiting til the next big thing you might as well wait forever because you can only have the baddest phone on the block for 4 months tops anyway and something better will be out.
Sorry for the rant.
Yea I didn't have this phone a week yet and Im already starting to feel obsolete reading about this lol

Good thing you ask, seems as though Samsung and Google announced the date they will be announcing the Nexus Prime today. That will be on October the 11th. Won't be long, less then 2 weeks from now before we can put all these rumors to rest. Don't get me wrong, trust me, I'm a more hardcore E4GT lover than you can imagine. Here's the link to the upcoming announcement within 2 weeks http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/0...-expected-on-on-october-11th-droid-prime-too/
It's basically a EG4T with NFC, possibly LTE with Sprints upcoming network expansion, a 720 p qHD specialty screen with about a third more pixels per square inch and the new model processor. Oh, and possibly at 4.65 inches. These are the rumors circulating and the more I watch the more evidence that's popping up about the screen and the processor. Samsung just happens to announce a their new 1.5 ghz Exynos processor 2 weeks before the Primes announcement? All this with rumors suggesting the OMAP processors have been behind in production?

If the Nexus line holds true to its trends, it will probably be a Verizon phone for some months before they release it to other carriers like they have done with T-mobile in the past. I would like to get my hands on a nexus phone for development sakes only. They always have a ton of support and constant updates. But whos to say that phone wont have a fluke bug in it either. every phone that comes out seems to have some bugs that can get ironed out and some that cant.
So far I have experienced zero major bugs with my device and has been the best release of a phone that I have gotten my hands on ever, and ive owned 5 in the last 2 years. I even switched from T-mobile to Sprint for coverage reasons in my area and dont see myself paying $$$ for Verizon and its LTE when it will never be in my area or get the 4G signal indoors. Especially if sprint is announcing the switch over to LTE. Boohoo if my phone wont be compatible, I will have a new upgrade by the time i see any of that in my area.

Here is my unrequest opinion.
It is a hardware race. Will the screen, processor, and battery life be better in the prime/galaxy s2 HD? Yes.
Will some of us go speed a large amount of money as a result? Yes, and I am not excluding myself.
But again, it is just a hardware race. Is there anything out there now, or in a year that will even challenge our phones? No, not a chance. This phone is truly a 2 year phone. I am sure of that.
Do we need a HD screen? No...the screen on this phone is awesome. Actually the hd screen on the prime and galaxy hd will have a pentil matrix...making the pixel density closer to that of our phones then one might think.
Overall...the new exynos will be better. But who the hell is going to notice. I am willing to bet, that besides benchmarks, our phone will do everything just as smooth as the new exynos. Honestly...the samsung created hardware in our phone is that good.
Hopefully, I am right...and not incorrect like I as with the evo3d. I thought the evo3d would be as smooth as any phone...but this phone just made me eat my words. I love it
I'm going to have to fight the urge to get the prime! Going from evo3d to photon to epic is less then two months is just too much already. I think I have a phone problem

Just an FYI, this SOC won't be in a Sprint phone till late spring, early summer of next year, so the only 1.5GHz phones we(Sprint) will see are going to be based on the Qualcomm chip for now, which I expect at least 1 or 2 to phones by Christmas(mostly HTC tho)

E4gt future proof

So I'm thinking of getting this phone with my soon-to-expire premier program upgrade (especially since it looks like we wont see galaxy nexus before the end of december), and I want to be sure this thing will stay satisfying for two years.
Primarily, I want to avoid issues the epic 4g has: limited (although what there is is extremely dedicated) dev support and lack of cm/miui that keeps the phone stuck at outdated os iterations (which is mostly sammy's fault anyway).
What im asking is, is this phone a dev darling and do they promise to love it for ever, even after samsung abandons it in 8 months?

There is no such thing on the market. Once this phone stops getting Android updates, the community will have no choice but to dump it for the next newest. It'll probably be able to drive your car, have sex with your wife, and make banana pancakes. How will you be able to coerce a developer away from such a dream phone when all you have to offer him/her is a beat up old 2011 E4GT to work on? You just have to let nature take it's course. Buy the phone for what it does now or always ask that same question: "Should I wait for the next one or get this one now?"
which ROM makes Banana Pancakes?
Mine only makes Buttermilk.....
Premier program upgrade expires 12/31/12 you have a good year and two months to make a decision.

Your Premier upgrade doesn't expire in December. You have all of 2012 to use it.
If you were thinking you could have gotten one additional 11-12mo upgrade cycle, that would have needed to be done by 10/1/2011.
When it comes to electronics, nothing is future proof!
The SGS2 is a great phone today and while it might not be the top of the line in a few months it will still be able to handle it's own.
There is one thing I am jealous of with the Galaxy Nexus, and that is the HD screen. If the SGS2 would have had an HD screen, it would be right up there with the GN. I do not count ICS because the SGS2 will eventually get it. If the GN only had a qhd screen I don't think I would care as much....Seems almost like qhd screens didn't stay around as the top dog for to long. Guess the lower end devices will be going qhd while top end goes 720p to compete.
The point is well taken that there's no such thing as a future-proofe phone. I should have qualified that I am asking if this phone appears likely to enjoy EVO or HD2-like developer love. I was spoiled with cm-support on the G1 and I want to recapture those possbilities with my next phone.
I was on the phone with Sprint for an hour and a half talking about my upgrade status and they repeatedly told me it would expire on Dec 31, 2011. I guess I'll call again and ask again. I don't know what to trust anymore. If I get another year I'll be extatic.

Add ICS and a 720P screen to our SGS2 and you have yourself a phone that is equal to or better then the GN. We will get ICS whether it be official or not, so that will really even the playing field. So our phone is future proof until you start seeing quad core phones come out and well as Sprint LTE phones. But I would say you are good for at least the next year to year and half with the SGS2.
When the specs for the SGS3 get dropped, I am betting that will be a game changer and Samsungs flagship phone, not the Nexus.

IMO, dual core SOCs and 1GB RAM are the major milestone for smartphones. Quad cores will improve benchmarks, but probably not much else. Cutting edge OS is what's important to me now, which the GN covers nicely

Not quite. We don't have NFC or a barometer, either. The lack of NFC means we can't use Google Wallet or Beam... ever, and the barometer means slower GPS locks and we can't use any other aps that take advantage of it.
I don't quite understand why Sprint had Samsung remove the NFC chip... it's the only GS2 variant that doesn't have one, and aside from LTE, that's the newest feature everyone is jumping on lately.
This phone will have a lot of life in it, but it's not future proof.
The nexus has a cheap pentile display. Go with the epic touch you won't regret it. And it has a sa+ display!

I really enjoyed the support out there for my EVO 4G, and was a little disappointed at the lack of options out there right now for my shiney new E4GT (not complaining, stating a fact, back off flamers)
However, read through the forums for the other variations of the SGS2 and you can see it's out there for them. I just think Sprints baby is a little late to the party, but is going to get it's fair share of cake. Read through some of the Developer posts and there is news popping up fairly regularly about test builds of CM7 and MIUI...
I am getting closer and closer to getting this. I just know a week after I do the galaxy nexus will be announced for sprint.

I'll be honest, this is my first android phone (epic touch 4g), but I have been tinkering with anything that draws power since I was a little guy ripping apart old stereo receivers and what not! Sure, something with some more bang is bound to come out in the next few months or so; but in my opinion, a device with the capabilities exhibited by this phone are not going to be overlooked anytime soon! Some people may dump the phone and grab whatever is better on the market at that time, but dev is not going to halt for this phone anytime soon as far as I can tell. Even before getting this phone I've done lots of research on android phones and spoken to friends that have owned such, and this is phone definitely marks a milestone in my opinion. Sure it has its bugs, I get LoS once a week or so; but despite its flaws (which will be resolved by the manufacturer or else!) it is a great phone and will serve any user well for YEARS! Hell, I had a Blackberry 8330 for a few years, wasn't anything special by any means at all but with some TLC and mods it was a great phone for as long as I had it. The ET4G should last a Looooooong time...
Edit: I also wanted to say, to those who were saying things about the Galaxy Nexus coming out for Sprint. Sure you may be able to the phone with Sprint in the very near future, but is it not quite similar to the ET4G? Really I guess it depends on preference and such. From what I've read and heard, though...the phones are not THAT much different so I guess whatever feel you like best is what you should get! Cheers!

S3 now or waiting for S4?

I am up for a new phone with my provider.
So I am wondering should I get the S3 now or should I wait for the next phone from Samsung.
I read abotu rumors that the S4 might be pulled up to go on sale with the iPhone 5.
Though based on track recrod I doubt to see a S3 successor prior to July 2013 (if not later).
Currently I have a Samsung Infuse (AT&T) and I am quite happy with it.
What are your thoughts?
No way will an S4 be released along side the iPhone 5. It's still a ways off I'm sure. Just get the S3, you won't regret it.

You should always upgrade ASAP when on a subsidized carrier like AT&T. Every month you delay is money down the drain because your current phone is "paid off", yet they don't reduce your monthly bill to reflect that.
Upgrade to the S3, and either sell your old one on ebay, or keep it as a backup.
Had the S2 and kicked the idea around for a bit. Man I'm so glad I went and bought the S3 out right. Sold the S2 on amazon and haven't regretted it once. If the S4 somehow resurrects the lord Jesus Christ back onto earth I'll snag it as well. I'm not really sure what the game plan for Samsung is next year.

Exactly, I had a skyrocket which is not much different from the S3. But I upgraded to the S3 and man what a difference it is in terms of software. Lots of great new things that I couldnt get even with the S3 roms on the skyrocket. Really good decision for me. And just like the other user said, you should get the S3 since your bill doesnt reduce. The S3 had all the features that I wanted in the skyrocket. HD screen and LED notification light. But I just had to get the skyrocket I couldnt stand my iphone anymore.
If you wait for the next greatest and latest thing you'll always end up waiting. When the s4 comes out you can always sell your s3 for some descent change and come within $300 of buying the s4 with no contract more than likely.

That's what I did with my s2, sold it on ebay for 330 after I unlocked it, and bought a brand new s3 for 475. In the end bought an s3 for $145 off contract. I'm up for renewal next March, so the s4 should be right around the corner then.

Not exactly true, if you are the first line on the account, your upgrades come earlier. For example, I am the first line in our account and get a yearly upgrade because of it. I get the 2-year price for a 1-year contract.
The phone is a great one. Top of the line specs, great size, and thinness make it so much better to hold. My only problem with the phone is the heating and that stupid home button.
Once you get past that though, it's really great!

Though based on track recrod I doubt to see a S3 successor prior to July 2013 (if not later).
Currently I have a Samsung Infuse (AT&T) and I am quite happy with it.
What are your thoughts?

I went from the Infuse to a S3, its a night and day difference... Put JB on it and its even faster.. Well worth the upgrade.
s3 since day one, will upgrade to iphone september, will get the new nexus device december and s4 april or when ever its released therefore keeping 3 updates a year!
I would get the SIII. The phone is sick and so fast when running JB. It is the best phone ever IMO. You would not regret getting this phone.
I thought I would hate the home button too. After a month with it, however, I really like it. I now wish my tablet had a home button!

Xda members are so savvy! I love all the talk about selling your old phone and paying the difference for the new one. It usually works out to paying less than the $199 new contract price. And when you're actually up for renewal, you actually make money selling the old phone since you dont have to pay full price and the new one is only $199! I've been doing this for years. I never keep a phone too long because its not worth much later. So definitely get the s3, then if you want the iPhone 5 or note 2 or whatever, sell the s3 and buy your next gadget. Waiting two years is for suckers!!!

I'm sooo sick of these kind of posts. The phone has barley a couple months old and people are already asking if I should wait for the next model. Who knows maybe the S4 will have 8 cores and be the best phone ever, but in the end it's your choice what phone you buy.

if you are sick then go to doctor. Don't come here and spread your sickness with your ****ty comments.
@OP: I understand your dilemma, but I think we don't even have any news/leaks about S4..so you should just get S3. As many people said "you won't regret it"
The only dilemma I see is the new snapdragon s4 pro quad with adreno 320 probably hitting in a few months. Either way I'm loving my s3.

I switched from an iphone 4S to the S3...couldn't be happier

[Q] Should I get this phone?

My T-mobile contract is up and I was wondering if this is still the best choice for a new phone.
Is this phone fast enough to last another two years? Or should I wait for a new phone. I don't think I want a phone as big as the note 2 though.
Galaxy S3 is the perfect size, it's fast, stable.. I like it. It's worth it.
Don't get it.
If a removable battery and sd card slot is a must for you then the GS3 is the way to go. Newer phones don't have it.
Get it

Considering this phone was just released, three- four months ago (here in the states at least) yes it's plenty fast to last the next 2 years... that how these devices are made.. but if your wanting the next top dog in the mobile realm, it may not be worth it, as t-mo will be getting the Htc One X+ soon... which is a souped up one X (closest competitor to the current top dog, the GS3) except itll be quad core ... with LTC and the s4 processor will be clocked at a higher rate... 1.7 i believe... so that's gonna smoke the s3 when its out... Also the new LG phone will becoming out soon as well ... everyone is trying to dethrone the king... still the S3 is gonna be a major player for a while to come, most of the top developers for the community are here and will be here for a while to come and the support should be great for this device for a long time... the thing about mobile devices it no matter what comes out the next big thing is always right around the corner (usually 3-6 mos) and you'll either drive yourself crazy or go broke tryna keep up with the Jones's
Probably the next smartphone out at the moment is this phone... But I would 2aut another month, to see if galaxy nexus 2 comes out, in case a new update with more features at out, that's my personal experience... But then again if you that kind of person the upgrades every two year you'll definitely love this phone

No one X+ for TMO
I read on TMONews that TMO would NOT be getting the rumored One X+. Something about it not passing quality control.
Best phone right now hands down!

Remember, Apple says that they are "substantially the same" so why not go for something bigger and better?
This is the first time I have bought a brand new/top o the line phone when its still at the top. Totally worth it. The temptation of trading it has not been that great for me, as it has with phones of the past.
