See Emoji Throughout Entire System (Not just with an App) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

This is NOT for being able to send emoji! You need an app or keyboard that supports that. This is so you can see Emojis in places you usually can't (stock SMS app, your twitter timeline )
Download this http://db.tt/9CwK9x2H
Extract folder using root explorer, go to extracted folder , select all files inside of it and copy to system/fonts. (Make sure to mount r/w and select replace on the fonts it asks you too)
Reboot your phone and now you can see emoji throughout your phone (obviously you can use it in a texting app but this allows you to see emojis in your stock messaging app, twitter, etc)
It is to note that the emojis only show up in black and white. Sorry (unless you're in an app that is designed to display emoji like gosms, hand cent, whatsapp, pansi. Those apps will display them in color as you are already used to)
Oh and its compatible with ios5 emoji's ! Enjoy !
Disclaimer:I tried this on AOKP b25/26 cdma, and a few other ROMS (Liquid ICS) and on an HTC Incredible running cm7. It shouldn't affect anything and should work on all android phones but remember I'm not responsible for anything.

Odd this didnt do anything for me

Did you try seeing an Emoji? Lilke I said earlier, this is not for sending Emoji, nor does it magically add the ability to get Emoji on your keyboard. Go download GO SMS, the Emoji Plug in, and send yourself a message with Emoji.
you should even be able to see it in your notification bar, and if you go back to the stock messaging app, you'll see it in there instead of those empty boxes people see on their Twitter timelines.
It's been confirmed to work by multiple people over at Rootzwiki, and all of my devices that are rooted.

cannot delete through root browser
trying to do this just now...
i have rooted my Droid xt910 that is still on android 2.3.6
i have downloaded the DroidSansFallback.ttf and copied it to my phone (it doesnt have an SD card).
I tried using root browser. there is no option though of mount r/w. when i delete the original DroidSansFallback.ttf at system/fonts, what appears is "failed to delete DroidSansFallback.ttf"
when using ES file explorer, shady file manager, and solid explorer, i could not go to the main system folder.
all these explorers were downloaded for free.
how do i delete the original DroidSansFallback.ttf? Thank you for this last step help.

I'm on galaxy s3.

Ok I found the way to make it work on the GS3, I'll post it as soon as I'll reach the 10 posts I need to insert links into my messages....

Have there been any efforts towards adding color? I'd like to get this working in color and have begun doing research into it. I have all of the emoji faces in color, I just don't know how to make the font point to the .png emoji.

ka bump. Color? Will this work on my lucid probably?

I, too, am still interested in making this work, but have been overwhelmed with starting college. I will work on this now assuming that someone helps me with making the text file point to the specified .png color images. If we can get support for b/w .png's, why not color? I just don't know where to begin.

[SKETCH] Dialer Tab for Galaxy. Need some help!

Hello to all XDA-Developers members,
I've made today a dialer layout, which is almost done. I must start to cutt-off the pngs for dialer app, but while i was working I started wondering if is there any way to make the tab bar of the dialer transparent.
Can you tell me if that is possible?
here is the design:

This is how I would like to look like with transparency
Hi
You'll need to modify some files in twframework-res.apk to change the tabs. Look for "tw_tab... .png". Unfortunately it's not controlled by the dialer.
but theoretically it is possible to make them transparent, am I right?
Theoretical its possible to theme anything in Android!
I have another question for you guys.
After I replaced some images in the dialertabactivity.apk and repacked it, replaced it in apps, my phone is not showing the app anymore. I even tryed to clean up the caches but useless. How am I suppose to proceed, so my app can be recognized by the phone.

can i somehow to test the apps in a virtual android emulator? because at my last try something went wrong and I needed to reflash all system. don;t know why.
Hey man.
If you've already got this dialer, can you optimize this dialer for multi-dpi resolutions? It isnt that hard if you know some basics It looks awesome!
I will try boys. It's not ready yet, I still have a lot of work to do and a lot to read, because I haven;t modified other apps before.
This is how I decided to look. Maybe in the future I will change it a bit.
i don't know a finish date, because I have many exams at school right now and my free time is very limited.
I hope you like it.

Just decompile the app and compile it after you are done.
Not unpack and repack because you lose the sign. Resign it won't work.

I thougt that all android system apps are already signed by google
Hey buddy, nice design. I think you deleted AndroidManifest.xml from /keep folder (if you use apk manager). That and META-INF folder need to remain untouched and always kept.
So, basically, use apktool 1.3.1, when compiling answer yes to both questions, delete everything from /keep folder except META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml and thats it. In worse case scenario, even if you kept AndroidManifest and META-INF and the app still doesnt show up, unpack it with some archive manager and pack it back using zero compression. Must work.
As well, if you use adb push, make sure you always delete from the phone the app/file which you wanna replace.

System applications in our case (Samsung users) are signed by Samsung using their own private key and almost all system apps share a specific UID - and we cannot sign the app with samsung's private key as we do not have it (is encrypted in CERT.RSA)
What signing does is basically creating a SHA1 checksum of all the files in the specific application. One file - MANIFEST.MF - contains simple checksums (you can generate them with any SHA1 checksum utility) and the other - CERT.SF - has "certificate aligned" (cant find a better term) checksums.
These checksums can be bypassed for all the files inside the application except for AndroidManifest.xml as this is the file which gives information to the Android system on how the app works, what permissions it needs and other specifications. No AndroidManifest/bad checksum for it (because of modification..) = no application in the launcher.
Now, you can try resigning the app but as it requires resources from different files in the system which share that ID, the chances that it will work are limited.
wow amazing explanation... never knew what the MANIFEST.MF and CERT.SF files are for?... Thank you so much Cezar

New Transparent Google Market 2.3.6

Here's a nice version of the Google Market, based on the latest Market version 2.3.6. It has a blue theme with a translucent background, so you can see your homescreen wallpaper through the Market App.
Just over-write your vending.apk with this one. It's either in /system/app or data/test/froyo/system/app depending on how you installed Market in the first place.

Yeah, some parts didn't come out correctly. I pulled it from a custom CM7 rom, and the text background doesn't show on my phone, but on Archos the text color is inverted. Strange, but still better than the stock version.
maybe I am doing this wrong or missed at step but it didn't work for me. I downloaded opened with Astro file Manager tried to upgrade and it failed installation. I am nonrooted running stock Archos 70IT software.

You need root access to do this. You might be able to copy the apk to the data/app directory, or data/test/froyo/app, if you don't have root with R/W access.

You will need to use Root Explorer or ADB to replace it. Astro doesn't use root permissions, so even if you are rooted, Astro is not.

Um, you did a full reformat, and you think it still has something to do with it? There's no way. All you had to do was delete the apk that you put in the wrong place, besides, there's only a couple places you could put it that it would even be recognized.
Sorry for the trouble, but it's unrelated to my apk.

I tried it, but when you open the detail page of an app, some fields are white. So I like the normal market more, but it's a nice idea.

Help installing themed Swype? [Solved]

I was wondering if anyone could aid me in installing a themed version of Swype onto my phone.
I removed the stock Swype from the system using Titanium backup then I proceeded to grab the themed apk and placed it in my System/app/ folder after naming it com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk and when I went to install it everything seemed fine until a reboot. What should I do to fixed this dilemma? Any help is appreciated.
Solved on the 2nd page.

The pixels are fine. It's wvga. The problem is that it's meant to install as a user app (The themed app) but Swype is in the ROM as a system app so that makes installing it more difficult. I KNOW it's possible...I just don't know how.

Try going to root explorer and do system/app/ then delete everything thats swype related. And then reboot rwcovery then reflash then clear dalvik cache and fix permissions after flash... Right after

No dice.
-We do what we must because we can. For the good of all us, except the ones who are dead.-
I figured it out.
This is a work around and it makes it work and stay with no fc. It's a long process but the keyboard looks sweet and is worth it imo.
Go to the system/app directory and find the swype.apk. Name it swype.apk1 and leave it. Now go to the ics one and copy it into the system/app directory and rename it to swype.apk like the original was. I changed the permissions of the ics one the 2nd time to be the exact as the original, but I don't think it matters..
Now, reboot.
You're gonna get a lot of fc if you have swype selected. Anyways, after the reboot, go to the ics original download and install it, replace it when it asks and it's installed. Now, go back to the system/app folder and delete the swype.apk file that was originally the ics one. Then scroll down in system/app and rename the swipe.apk1 to swype.apk and reboot.
You'll have the newer ics themed keyboard with no fc and it will remainafter any amount of reboots.
I didn this 2 times to make sure it worked and does. I have the newer ics themed one now.
P.S. If you keep getting fc popups after the 1st reboot, just be patient and dismiss them while installing the original non renamed ics one.
Will DEFINITELY try this later. Thanks.
-We do what we must because we can. For the good of all us, except the ones who are dead.-
And it seems after this, you can install the other themed swipes from that same site with no problems. Just install it over the other like you would to normally update a app.
Confirmed, it works. Many thanks. What even made you think to do that?

[APP] Mms.apk with different colors

Hi all,
I thought I'd share my modded Mms.apk with you. This was pulled from Calk's latest ROM. It should, however, work with any EL29 ROM. The only modifications are colors of the message bubbles, pulled from this MMS app. I tried using the app, but I was getting file compression errors when sending images, so I just modded the original Mms.apk slightly.
AS ALWAYS - YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK
Install via adb (Windows):
1. Connect your phone to PC
2. Make sure USB debugging is enabled
3. open command prompt in the same folder as Android SDK or make sure you have PATH specified to it; place Mms.apk in the same folder
4. Type adb start-server at command prompt
5. Type adb remount
6. Type adb push Mms.apk /system/app
7. Type adb reboot
Once your phone reboots, you will have the new MMS.apk fully functional. You may have to re-add the Messaging link to the bottom bar.
If you have ROOT EXPLORER, you can simply copy Mms.apk into your /system/app folder replacing the original file. Back it up first, though, if you want to revert back to it.
Enjoy.

Cant you just drop it on your SD card then navigate your phone using ES file explorer or root explorer and copy and paste it into the system/app folder replacing the one thats in there, then reboot to get it to work?
If I am incorrect please let me know before I make a fatal error.... lol
I can't speak for THIS apk, however I just took a mms.apk from another rom, did exactly as you described but also changed the permissions, and it works fine. Why don't you make a back up and give it a go.

You can get your own colors. For that you have to edit the message_bubble_xxx_.9.png files located in the res/drawable-hdpi directory inside the Mms.apk. These .9.png files are system-resizable PNGs that have to be edited with a special tool, like Draw9patch. If you google "how to edit .9.png files" you will find all sorts of tutorials and explanations.
Good luck.

Do you add a text file to the folder or do I need to figure out how to open the system in a terminal? I am familiar with terminal in Ubuntu, but have not taken the time to root or learn android particulars as all the features I want are already available. Maybe I need to learn to get rid of bloatware.
A quick step by step would be great if you have the time. With thousands of people trying to get rid of the slide show mms why the hell is it still around? I hate it on the Note 2 and my Atrix didn't have it.

You will need a program like Root Explorer to find the xml file in the OP. When he says "Adding this into system/csc/feature does the trick.", feature is actually feature.xml and it's located in the /system/csc directory. With root explorer you can browse to this directory and mount it as R/W to edit the feature.xml file. Once mounted as R/W, open feature.xml in a text editor (integrated in Root Explorer).
Once editing feature.xml, just scroll down to the message options and add the line in the OP. I did this by copying the text on my PC, sending myself a hangouts message, and then copying the message text on my phone. Then I pasted the copied text into the Root Explorer text editor window, menu->save and exit, then Mount R/O in root explorer. Reboot and you should be able to open MMS in non-slideshow mode.
See attached screenshots for reference.

Worked for me.
Sent from Note 2.
Hey sorry to revive this thread, I am on Verizon with a Galaxy S4 and have this same issue... see below -- adding that text ( i am rooted ) did not solve the issue.
Do others have this issue?
MMS messages with text/image come in as a slideshow. Instead of showing the picture and text inside the messaging thread it displays a PLAY (
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
) icon and then starts a slideshow.
When I use the root explorer and check the /system directory I don't see a csc folder. Is the folder hidden?
