Help installing themed Swype? [Solved] - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I was wondering if anyone could aid me in installing a themed version of Swype onto my phone.
I removed the stock Swype from the system using Titanium backup then I proceeded to grab the themed apk and placed it in my System/app/ folder after naming it com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk and when I went to install it everything seemed fine until a reboot. What should I do to fixed this dilemma? Any help is appreciated.
Solved on the 2nd page.

Uhmm try to clear cache and fix permission. That should work! And is the apk compatible with the phone?
Sent From my Galaxy S II T-Mobile

No luck.
And this is where I got the themed Swype from.

I like the outlined ics one.
But like I said, that didn't work.

Then i dont think that swype is compatible with our phone. The pixels or the license on the app is wrong
Sent From my Galaxy S II T-Mobile

The pixels are fine. It's wvga. The problem is that it's meant to install as a user app (The themed app) but Swype is in the ROM as a system app so that makes installing it more difficult. I KNOW it's possible...I just don't know how.

Try going to root explorer and do system/app/ then delete everything thats swype related. And then reboot rwcovery then reflash then clear dalvik cache and fix permissions after flash... Right after

I already did that. The only thing I didn't delete was system/lib/libSwypeCore.3.25.91.32328.so
I was afraid of the consequences that would follow and didn't think of backing it up.
Does anyone know if its safe to delete this?

Copy it and then place it into ur sd card or usb storage then delete it... Try that

Did you make a nadroid and then try deleting the file that you didn't earlier?
I can get this to install and can use it, but after reboot, I get fc.
This is a very nice keyboard. I hope we can get it working.

No dice.
-We do what we must because we can. For the good of all us, except the ones who are dead.-

I figured it out.
This is a work around and it makes it work and stay with no fc. It's a long process but the keyboard looks sweet and is worth it imo.
Go to the system/app directory and find the swype.apk. Name it swype.apk1 and leave it. Now go to the ics one and copy it into the system/app directory and rename it to swype.apk like the original was. I changed the permissions of the ics one the 2nd time to be the exact as the original, but I don't think it matters..
Now, reboot.
You're gonna get a lot of fc if you have swype selected. Anyways, after the reboot, go to the ics original download and install it, replace it when it asks and it's installed. Now, go back to the system/app folder and delete the swype.apk file that was originally the ics one. Then scroll down in system/app and rename the swipe.apk1 to swype.apk and reboot.
You'll have the newer ics themed keyboard with no fc and it will remainafter any amount of reboots.
I didn this 2 times to make sure it worked and does. I have the newer ics themed one now.
P.S. If you keep getting fc popups after the 1st reboot, just be patient and dismiss them while installing the original non renamed ics one.

Will DEFINITELY try this later. Thanks.

And it seems after this, you can install the other themed swipes from that same site with no problems. Just install it over the other like you would to normally update a app.

Confirmed, it works. Many thanks. What even made you think to do that?

[SKETCH] Dialer Tab for Galaxy. Need some help!

Hello to all XDA-Developers members,
I've made today a dialer layout, which is almost done. I must start to cutt-off the pngs for dialer app, but while i was working I started wondering if is there any way to make the tab bar of the dialer transparent.
Can you tell me if that is possible?
here is the design:

EDIT
This is how I would like to look like with transparency
Hi
You'll need to modify some files in twframework-res.apk to change the tabs. Look for "tw_tab... .png". Unfortunately it's not controlled by the dialer.
but theoretically it is possible to make them transparent, am I right?
Theoretical its possible to theme anything in Android!
I have another question for you guys.
After I replaced some images in the dialertabactivity.apk and repacked it, replaced it in apps, my phone is not showing the app anymore. I even tryed to clean up the caches but useless. How am I suppose to proceed, so my app can be recognized by the phone.

Did you resign it? I know it's not the same app but it happens with Widgetlocker if it's not been resigned... Use APK Manager should do the trick
can i somehow to test the apps in a virtual android emulator? because at my last try something went wrong and I needed to reflash all system. don;t know why.
Hey man.
If you've already got this dialer, can you optimize this dialer for multi-dpi resolutions? It isnt that hard if you know some basics It looks awesome!
I will try boys. It's not ready yet, I still have a lot of work to do and a lot to read, because I haven;t modified other apps before.
This is how I decided to look. Maybe in the future I will change it a bit.
i don't know a finish date, because I have many exams at school right now and my free time is very limited.
I hope you like it.
Awesome Style

Just decompile the app and compile it after you are done.
Not unpack and repack because you lose the sign. Resign it won't work.

I thougt that all android system apps are already signed by google
Hey buddy, nice design. I think you deleted AndroidManifest.xml from /keep folder (if you use apk manager). That and META-INF folder need to remain untouched and always kept.
So, basically, use apktool 1.3.1, when compiling answer yes to both questions, delete everything from /keep folder except META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml and thats it. In worse case scenario, even if you kept AndroidManifest and META-INF and the app still doesnt show up, unpack it with some archive manager and pack it back using zero compression. Must work.
As well, if you use adb push, make sure you always delete from the phone the app/file which you wanna replace.

System applications in our case (Samsung users) are signed by Samsung using their own private key and almost all system apps share a specific UID - and we cannot sign the app with samsung's private key as we do not have it (is encrypted in CERT.RSA)
What signing does is basically creating a SHA1 checksum of all the files in the specific application. One file - MANIFEST.MF - contains simple checksums (you can generate them with any SHA1 checksum utility) and the other - CERT.SF - has "certificate aligned" (cant find a better term) checksums.
These checksums can be bypassed for all the files inside the application except for AndroidManifest.xml as this is the file which gives information to the Android system on how the app works, what permissions it needs and other specifications. No AndroidManifest/bad checksum for it (because of modification..) = no application in the launcher.
Now, you can try resigning the app but as it requires resources from different files in the system which share that ID, the chances that it will work are limited.
wow amazing explanation... never knew what the MANIFEST.MF and CERT.SF files are for?... Thank you so much Cezar

New Transparent Google Market 2.3.6

Here's a nice version of the Google Market, based on the latest Market version 2.3.6. It has a blue theme with a translucent background, so you can see your homescreen wallpaper through the Market App.
Just over-write your vending.apk with this one. It's either in /system/app or data/test/froyo/system/app depending on how you installed Market in the first place.

Yeah, some parts didn't come out correctly. I pulled it from a custom CM7 rom, and the text background doesn't show on my phone, but on Archos the text color is inverted. Strange, but still better than the stock version.
maybe I am doing this wrong or missed at step but it didn't work for me. I downloaded opened with Astro file Manager tried to upgrade and it failed installation. I am nonrooted running stock Archos 70IT software.

You need root access to do this. You might be able to copy the apk to the data/app directory, or data/test/froyo/app, if you don't have root with R/W access.
seems pretty~ but any other color?
Probably somewhere, but all I have is blue.
Yikes... I can't seem to get this to work. I am rooted and tired using Astro but it won't let me replace it. Oh well! It sure does look pretty.

You will need to use Root Explorer or ADB to replace it. Astro doesn't use root permissions, so even if you are rooted, Astro is not.

Um, you did a full reformat, and you think it still has something to do with it? There's no way. All you had to do was delete the apk that you put in the wrong place, besides, there's only a couple places you could put it that it would even be recognized.
Sorry for the trouble, but it's unrelated to my apk.
nice!
no more boring market!
OMG ! Thanks dude !

I tried it, but when you open the detail page of an app, some fields are white. So I like the normal market more, but it's a nice idea.

How do you take a rom apart...

and take a closer look at the drivers, and possibly alter a driver?
Or can you replace a driver with another one from a different rom, and have the phone still work?
In a nutshell, I really like the sense roms, but want to find a driver that lets me control the softkey lights (sorry to be going on about this, but it's of great importance to me to get this working).
Apparently, this works with the original Dinc (though I only assume, from looking at apps like LEDs Hack), and I wonder if the "lights" driver from its rom could be used with the Dinc2.
I know nothing about creating Roms, but if there is a tutorial somewhere, I wouldn't mind taking a look.
Or if someone who knows what they are doing wants to tell me it's impossible...

7zip does wonders for taking roms and themes apart.
You cannot just simply take a Rom apart, mod it and then try to flash it to your phone. I believe it needs to be recompiled properly.
The way I make mods is to push items with root explorer in read/write mode. But make sure you have some backup and know how to manually get back into clockwork recovery because, more than often things including framework get messed up and your rom/phone will become non operational.

[MOD][Battery][8/7] - Percent Battery Mod - JRO03D BASE

Ok, someone requested this so I figured I would knock it out real quick for every to have.
Its basic percent battery mod by 1% increments with stock charging animation.
Thge image size is about 2px bigger than the stock ROM but if its gets any smaller you cant read it, lol.
This is for De-Odex ROMS. It can be flashed to Odex ROM but you must delete SystemUI.odex first.
THIS IS BASED on JRO03D and flashing on any other ROM is at your own risk!

This was exactly what I was looking for since I got my Nexus 7 a couple of weeks ago.

That it is. I'd like to see something less terrible and more informative.
If I have some time this weekend, I'm going to try it. But first I have to get TWRP and root going,, lol
I'm going to try and contact TBO for some more info on it also.
UPDATE: Heard back from one of the TBO devs already. I asked if it would work on a Pixel running 7.1.1
"Backup, flash it and see. Not sure you'll have any issues but should be fine."
I know, not a whole lot to go by, but at least I heard back, and pretty quickly , heh

Cool. Let us know... Maybe make a better video, too.
Another user chimed in with this:
"TBO's PixelLauncher works just fine with my Pixel on 7.1.1. The zips don't flash to the right location, though, so you may be better off extracting the APK and manually moving it to /system-root/system/priv-app/NexusLauncherPrebuilt with a root file manager. I renamed the existing apk first in case of problems. You will need to set permissions on the new apk.
I recommend having a second launcher installed in case things go south. I'm hearing mixed results with restores from TWRP.
You don't need the wallpaper app."

Did you try it yet?
I modded the install script. Here you go.
Obviously this is all Team Blackouts work. Not mine.

Thanks for doing that Mental!
But what finally ended up making it work was:
Extracting the APK and manually moving it to /system-root/system/priv-app/NexusLauncherPrebuilt, rename it to NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk and setting the permissions, like the original one, with a root file manager.
First I renamed the original one with a .old on the end, as a precaution.

What's unique about this launcher?
Same as stock but transparent with a dark tint.
Any way to get the coloured G logo on the homescreen back?
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers Legacy app
