How do you take a rom apart... - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

and take a closer look at the drivers, and possibly alter a driver?
Or can you replace a driver with another one from a different rom, and have the phone still work?
In a nutshell, I really like the sense roms, but want to find a driver that lets me control the softkey lights (sorry to be going on about this, but it's of great importance to me to get this working).
Apparently, this works with the original Dinc (though I only assume, from looking at apps like LEDs Hack), and I wonder if the "lights" driver from its rom could be used with the Dinc2.
I know nothing about creating Roms, but if there is a tutorial somewhere, I wouldn't mind taking a look.
Or if someone who knows what they are doing wants to tell me it's impossible...

But I was really hoping to learn about more specifics, and find out if this is way too complicated to attempt for someone completely new to custom roms.

7zip does wonders for taking roms and themes apart.

You cannot just simply take a Rom apart, mod it and then try to flash it to your phone. I believe it needs to be recompiled properly.
The way I make mods is to push items with root explorer in read/write mode. But make sure you have some backup and know how to manually get back into clockwork recovery because, more than often things including framework get messed up and your rom/phone will become non operational.

ive modded several roms and there frameworks with 7zip with no ill after effects. if you want to change the xml's you need to decompile the roms.

Removing Sense unlock screen for stock Android Unlock

Is it possible to modify the unlock screen for our phones so that it doesn't use the Sense one? I'd really prefer having the stock Android unlock screen one over this.
If possible would our phones have to be rooted for this type of override?

No, actually, that's not what he wants at all. I'd also love to use the standard Android unlock screen on my Incredible. I'm rooted, I shouldn't have to buy an app to do this.

That is not what the OP requested.
Stop suggesting Lockbot. It doesn't even work.
lockbot does the stock unlock screen... care to post a picture of the screen you are wanting... seems i am confusing the nonsense lock with something else
Ok to clarify. We want to have to stock 2.1 lock screen (slide to unlock) instead of having the Sense Unlock (pull down unlock) WITHOUT any app.
The stock ROMS that are out have them... we want that just standard, not just on the ROM. Clear?!
Another cool thing about the stock 2.1 unlock is the ability to go into silent mode from the lock screen without unlocking the phone first and doing it through another means. It saves time and is convenient. I'd love the stock lock just for that reason.
This is what I got

just tried to adb push the android.policy.jar from yeti's nexus theme, that didn't work either... got that idea from the guy saying he modded the android.policy.jar from the post above...
no go
just tried to pull the android.policy.jar from yeti rom, and put into an update.zip file and install via clockwork

Just tried to pull the android.policy.jar from PMF ROM and install via update.zip

I'm pretty curious about this as well if anyone can figure it out that'd be great. I've tried software (app) unlockers in the past and they are horrid.
This really can't be done with the stock ROM as it is. The entire ROM has to be deodexed and then the android.policy.jar can be replaced.
Just an FYI for anyone else who may be looking - I tried lockbot free per the rec in this thread, and it works great.

when it is locked can you bypass it by hitting the home button? that is the only issue I have with lockscreens from the market.
Well this has been tried on a different handset...trying to push a random .jar file will never work. Far more porting involved. Its built into the sense even though in the frameworks there's . Pngs for the stock lock screen.

Nope because the ROM you are putting the .jar file onto has to be entirely deodexed, including the /system/app folder.

Thanks for posting this, I never knew about this thing before. Now I'm going to be spending all my time making new themes...lol. I already made a couple for my phone.
BTW....it's not nearly as complicated as you may think. You just pull the framework-res.apk out of you current ROM and upload it to the site and pick what mods you want. Then it gives you back a flashable zip with your new theme.

yea i've been bugging the dudes on the irc to tell me how to do it manually, but i see nothing. if i decompile framework-res.apk and go to public xml like you do in froyo, it's not as easy as changing values and adding images. you really need to do some coding, and then there's this systemui thing. man...
next time i'm on the irc, i'll try and find out for sure how to do it.

Still trying to figure this out....

I have been back and forth between roms this past week...I have finally settled on Myn's for today at least...I am wanting to get rid of the carrier name on the lock screen. I have tried the QDSP as well as the HEX method and don't really want to mess with CDMA workshop.
I can create and save a new file in the HEX method but it will not paste into the framewokr/res/layout-hdpi-v4 folder for some reason, any ideas on how I can get this done?

On a sense based rom like Myn's, unfortunately, the easiest way I've found is using the CDMA workshop. Any of the other methods floating around the forums never seemed to work for me.
I think the only method that's confirmed to work is the cdma workshop, if I'm wrong someone please correct me.
Guess I will roll up my sleeves and see if I can figure out which poort my phone is on with Windows 7 64 bit....
I did it....my antivirus software was blocking CDMA so I had to turn it off....got it done though.

Just for future reference, its alot easier on AOSP roms like Cyanogen. I just mention it bc your initial post said your on Myn's for today anyways. Myn's is my favorite sense rom, but I've been jumping back and forth between MIUI and Cyanogen for aosp as of late. Just edit the eri.xml file and drop it into the /data/ folder on your phone. SystemUI mods for SM-T815 Deodex AOJ4

Hi,
There are some sweets for deodexed aoj4:
1. 3minit battery mod.
I think everyone knows what does that mean,so no screenshots needed.
Download from Mega
2. Wide notification panel with 10 quick settings buttons
Looks same as stock, but screen wide. Quantity of quick settings buttons increased to 10. See screenshots from next point, looks same, but with stock colors.
Download from Mega
3. Wide notification panel with 10 quick settings buttons, black color.
I really don't like stock colors, more over Amoled displays don't like white color for energy saving. That was the reason for me to make dark themed notification panel(sound volume panels also dark).

The only man who can answer your question is You.
Unfortunatelly I don't have 810 on hands and cann't test it.
Just make full back up with TWRP and flash required zip. You will see the result and then make a post in this thread so I will add 810 to topic.
Thank you.
Since you already figured out how to change the cot on this version of systemui, care to give me a little help on which values to modify on my t715? I spent all night yesterday on trying to get this to work but I apparently did something wrong.
/system/privapp/systemui/systemui.apk/ is correct, right? Other versions of touch wiz seem to use the drawable-xxhdpi folder, but I can only find that in /vendor/.
I'd just use your apk but I can't afford a broken system today because I have finals in a couple days and I shouldn't even be making this post actually.
katakis1,
First of all you should make your system deodexed.
/system/privapp/systemui/systemui.apk/ is correct, right?
That is correct. But you need to decompile this file to make changes like it was made in my modds.
Unfortunatelly I cannot write complete how-to because of lack of time. But you can find these how-to's on xda-forum.Just use search. Find any how-to concerning tweaks or color changes of systemui.apk for any popular Samsung model(I was using how-to from S5,S6 and Note 4).
