I'm curious, I have an R800a, which means american but non US. Which means I don't get the US version of crash bandicoot on my phone.
But if I install R800i, will it come with the US AKP and download the US ZPAK file when I try to play it? Or will it download the non-us ZPAK?
Pretty sure its;
r800a/at = American phones(a=Verizon/at=AT&T)
r800i = UK phones.
So you should have the american crash game in there. Granted you are on your correct stock rom. r800i will give you the EU one.
Im just gonna go out on a limb here, you are trying to get these things for psxperia?
Ya, I tried using the ones already on my phone. didn't work.
Tried downloading a known US APK from the net, got farther than I did. But still didn't work.
But I've already got a thread going on that.
Well you should know you'll need the APK from the internal memory, so you should use a file manager to copy paste that onto the SD.
Also, you'll need to download the files for the game to run in order for psxperia to use them correctly. I had no problems with my r800at files.

Wrong. R800at is AT&T, R800x is Verizon, R800i is international.

Ah.
Then whats a?
EDIT: was wrong. Seems r800i is europe (which I can see as international, since everywhere but USA uses those bands)
But that still leaves A. Which google seems to make it out as the international, because it has 850/1900 and 2100 bands for 3g.
Non-us north american.
Which means Canadian.

Still would assume it came with the american crash rom.
didn't work for me. Had to find the Apk online.

All the different versions of the Play, and it's availability across the globe is making things very confusing for me to figure out. Can someone please give me some straight answers to the following questions? (And, yes, I -did- try to read the threads, but I'm not getting it.)
First, my relevant stats:
Wireless Provider: Verizon
Location: US
Phone: Xperia Play
Model: R800x
Network type: CDMA
Bootloader: Locked
Rooted: Yes
Custom Recovery: CWM installed to the \System
Questions:
1. If I have my bootloader unlocked, what ROMS will work properly with the US Verizon network?
2. Again, assuming the above, which kernel(s) should be used?
3. Once more, assuming the above, how is the functionality of the Gamepad affected? (Obviously, it needs to work to make any sense of having the phone unlocked and loading a Custom ROM.)
Maybe I'm making this harder than it needs to be. But, it seems to me that the R800x is such a different beast from all the other models of the Play that it would almost make sense to have its own sub-forum.
Please note my prior Android experience has been with the LG Ally and the LG Vortex. No bootloaders, no multiple models with different rules based on the country of origin, just straight-forward simple configurations. The rules were simple: Root, install Custom Recovery, make a Nandroid, install your choice of Custom ROMs and enjoy. So you can see why this environment is so perplexing to me.
Thank you in advance for clarifying my options. I'm sure with all the knowledgeable folks here, I'll soon be rocking a new configuration.

the title of the rom will say cdma in it if the rom/kernel work on the r800x
as far as functionality goes the stock roms aka not cm7 or ics they work perfect, cm7 is hit and miss with the game pad some games work some dont (i think most work though.) as far as ics its not made for our phone might never be.
Thanks for that info. Just want to make sure it's worth doing.

OK, I have had my R800x since last August and I love this phone. My last two phones were the Motorola Milestone and Motorola Droid 2 Global (never buying a Moto again, hate them and their locked tight BL)
Anyway, my question is why is it that someone cant just make a CDMA patch that would work with either all or select GSM Roms? Maybe make a patch and apply that as an update.zip to after flashing a GSM rom to the r800x and have it work? Can someone shed some light on this as to why this has happend or been suggested? I am sure that I am not the only one to ask this question........thoughts?
Think it's something to do with the radio.
Actually reminds me of region locking on DVDs :s

So there is no way to make a patch that would just over write the radio to work with CDMA Verizon?
I have seen some older android phones where they were able to flash a cdma patch to make GSM roms work on the CDMA variants of the phone..... why cant this be done here?
I have no idea how it works. Probably better asking a dev to be honest.
There may be a workaround but I can't be certain

There are select GSM ROMs that work (or somewhat work)
GSM to CDMA Patches do exist, and work most of the time.
2.3.3 GSM ROMs (that are below 4.0.x.x firmware) can be easily ported to CDMA
CM9 and AOKP have been ported to CDMA from the GSM variants.
The Sony ICS Beta has been ported to CDMA, with various results.
For any of you who want to have your cake and eat it too, you can now flash the international N7105 firmware onto your AT&T branded i317!
What does this mean? It means that you can give AT&T the middle finger by having unlocked firmware with none of the restrictions and bloatware. By extension, this also means that you can benefit from the development going on for the international devices.
Finally, this also means that you can reap all those benefits without sacrificing LTE access in North America!
Now that this has been confirmed to work with the i317, I wonder if the T889 is next...

We tried flashing the international N7105 firmware onto the i317 using Odin, but that didn't work. However, the procedure seems to be working if, instead of using Odin, you flash a re-packaged stock N7105 firmware using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, just like flashing any other custom ROM. Once that's done, just flash the AT&T modem/kernel, and you're all set!
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much development for the N7105 yet. Root, CWM, deodexing and all the other basics are there, but that's all for the moment. Devs are still trying to work out N7100/N7105 inter-compatibility. N7100 firmware will flash to an N7105, but the modem won't work, so that's pretty useless, and that's what we're all trying to fix.
At least, in the mean time, you can enjoy a stock N7105 experience in North America without AT&T/Rogers sticking their fingers in the pie
Is the 7100 the non LTE version and 7105 LTE? If this allows us to get FM Radio on our North American Note 2s, I'm going to be very happy!

Very nice.
Upon thinking about it. I believe there is a way to use this method to give us international firmware and also retain our NA CSC's so we keep carrier specific settings such as Wi-Fi access, Fast dormancy and the like too.
Currently working on it and will get back to people once I am finished.
Glad to see someone else was working on this as it was something I wanted to get around to messing with but have been busy poking into Bootloaders and dialer codes.

Agreed however, no one knows for sure it isn't present in our devices and that Samsung just removed the driver at the request of the greedy NA companies. They don't want us listening to something for free when they can force us to connect and use data. Maybe the driver is in the 7105 firmware...
My phone is rooted, what is so good/different about the international version?

Did what Miscom had done and got the latest GT-I7105 Unbranded firmware release LJ5, with this one I injected the Canadian CSC's and everything seems to be working except a few carrier apps that check for the proper model number they would force close on me.
Going over this firmware, seems okay but doesn't seem to be any better then the stock LJ2 that came with the phone.
My main hope with using an international firmware would be unlocked dialer codes, and I was correct in my testing, any carrier locked dialer codes are controller within the firmware + check what CSC you have as well.
Got some working that I couldn't before hand, however the main one that I wanted to use was the *#7465625# to view network lock status, it was one that I couldn't get working, but I believe that it wasn't working because my phone is already a factory unlocked one so to really know for sure I'd half to have one that is known to be locked.
Anyways, glad this experiment worked, I will definitely be looking at this again in the future, however I know that the Samsung Canada is planning on releasing an updated firmware for the phone at the same time or soon after the Canadian S3's get their Jelly Bean updated, and it is also rumored that they will be 4.1.2 as well. So with this possibility I will be going back to Bell's Stock firmware and see what we get in a few weeks.

no one has this model. try it yourself.
Which carrier are you on? I can check out the kernel configs to let you know if they are compatible. From what I remember, your display driver is different from ours so it may not be compatible. I'm pretty sure that was Docomo that that was the issue on.

i got this phone from Japan Seller, its an unlocked Docomo NTT version of L01E.
if u need any more info like the details do ask i'd be more than happy to provide
cos i saw the Korean F180KL version has 13mp cam its the same as the JP version. i'm on the IMM76L build and software version L01E10a. i saw some uploaded the c version but still its under ICS... hence i didnt bothered flashing it..
since other variants has been released with 4.2 hence i wondered if it might work .
anyway to config those kernels with the display?
*sidenote, from wad i know from my seller, its perma unclocked from Docomo so even if i flash it , i wont lose the unlock, but sadly i am also removed from their OTA updates.. so yea..
I believe L01 and F180 share the optimus g name only.
yea i know they may just be the same name, as per Xboxfan mentioned, is it possible to ammend some settings and it will work? since the TV function doesnt work outa Japan ,it doesnt matter even if i lose that function. Current i'm rotted with the help of jcase's thread, i didnt install the CWM tho, i would love to try and flash it out but seemingly that the unbrick option is also not catered to L01E, i dare not do so yet..
try as i might, i'm looking up to cook a rom specifically for this phone using the base of the sources but i'm really really REALLY new to this and frankly speaking, reading those threads up on this cooking has made me gone nowhere.. so my hope now is that what Xboxfan said is true and i might be able to get JB on this heck of a phone
When I get a chance, I will make you a kernel. Add me on gtalk and remind me from time to time if I don't have anything within a week or two. It shouldn't be hard. Your drivers aren't way different, but they are different enough to where Roms for other devices wouldn't work.

If you already know what files you need, it'll help save everyone else time if you mention what they are.
If you are looking for the modems, I highly doubt it'll work.
I've yet to see any modem function correctly on a different model gs3. This is why we always say its ok to flash the roms, but that's about it. I can't remember for sure about rom compatibility for your model though so don't go flashing our roms unless you are sure.

I don't think I was clear. Umm.. I know the process on how to upgrade various things. But I don't know the files needed. I read that you can change the apns and i read its software that governs the radios. So im thinking its perhaps doable? Am I wrong? I mean you say it probably won't work, but if its software. Software, as in firmware does run the radios, but its most likely not going to be compatible. We can't even use our T999 radios on the T999V or vice versa.
Another thing I can't remember now is if yours is cdma or gsm. I'm pretty sure Wind operates on gsm tech so if yours is cdma you may only get 2g data, if any. These are questions you should be able to google or a wind user here may know, (apn's too) I can help to look some of it up for you but it'll be later tonite before I can put any time in.
Hope that's enough to help get you started on some of the info gathering though. (There are a couple of Wind and Canadian dedicated threads around here somewhere btw) you may find some good info there too.

I just saw that the 747 is gsm, so it should work on winds network. It may not get 4g, just depends on which frequency the phone and wind operate on.
