[Q] HTC desire Z cant falsh help - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
i have htc desire z :
vision pvt eng s-off
hboot 0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
microp-0425
Radio-26.02.01.15_M2
Recovery5.0.2.7 clockworkmod
My phone is freeze on start - white screen.
Cant flash from sd card via PC10IMG.zip (error PASSED), cant flas oficial firmware RUU(error cant init).
Andriod flasher 2.2.0.5 freeze on start make firmware.
Please help.
Please help.

did you already try to enter recovery and wipe? (power & volume -) and is your phone recognized by adb or fastboot?

I can fastboot hboot recovery ADB work but always error if i want flash or someone know please direct commad to write my rom to mobile?
Help please.

Provide us with a little more details, What exactly did you do? A phone just doesn't freeze up like that.

This freeze is after run upgrade some application in work mobile via WIFI .I think on some build 2.3.6 what i have in phone. Since then does not work
After factory reser or wipe freeze phone. After start is freeze 4 min after restart and enter to recovery owerclock. In owerclockmod recovery i can flash pda part from someone buid- i test buld android and all same error - freeze.
If i get PC10IMG.zip after enter to fastboot start upgrade from this file but after load to phone from memory card write parsing and kick from installer to fastboot.
I test 5 other version PC10IMG.zip but the same error.
I test 5 other version RUU but the same error.
I think i must falsh HBOOT , RADIO , RECOVERY to original setting after run RUU but fail.
Sorry my enlish is no best.

sry, but i do not unterstand what you have been doing, specially what is a owerclock recovery?
I would try the following: remove the pc10img.zip from sd, put your phone in fastboot mode (power & tp-wake) and connect to pc, then wipe through fastboot (fastboot erase userdata; fastboot erase cache; fastboot erase dalvik cache) then try to enter recovery and wipe again (if you cant enter recovery flash it via fastboot) and try again...
then try a fresh install.... maybe this works, good luck
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

all wipe done
flash RUU : waiting to run the loader(1min), then error 171
flash via sd C10IMG.zip parsing.... and then kick from installer
Same problems.
Please help.

...if the wiping worked, why dont you flash a rom through recovery?
download cm7 for example:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=vision
remove the pc10img.zip from sd, put the .zip from the link above on your sd, enter recovery choose install from sdcard, grap the .zip and flash it - afterwards reboot...
again, good luck
if all this doesn´t work flash the ruu via fastboot (look at the part - downgrade via fastboot):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
and hitting the thanks button would be a nice thing to do...

Thank you for answer but bad :/
Update cm done but same problem.
Flash via ADB (second link) fail :/ (uploading zip info fail)
Exist some manual for single flash i Think HBOOT , RADIO , RECOVERY?
Thank you for answer

i dont know how this should help, but here you go:

http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
this way get installer start ok and after start update BOOTLOADER get -fail- PU
SDCARD flash error is -FAIL-PU
ADB error is FAILED (remote: partition update fail)

[Q] Can't Flash Recovery on HTC Desire

I'm unable to flash my recovery partition. I want to do this to get ClockworkMod Recovery on so I can back up my phone then replace the ROM. I can't even get started as neither the 'simple' ROM Manager method or the fastboot method for flashing recovery work.
I've gone through the usual stuff of installing ADB / Fastboot / Android Developer SDK, checking my phone's rooted, etc., but no joy.
First of all when I try to get ROM Manager to flash the recovery partition, it says it's done it but when I select 'Boot to Recovery' it asks me if I'm sure and when I click ok it does nothing and stays in the app. If I restart to the recovery partition it's supposedly flashed for me by powering on to the bootloader screen and selecting 'recovery', I get the dreaded red triangle over phone pic and have to hard reset by removing the battery and putting it in again before powering on.
Secondly, if I use the fastboot command I get the following result:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools>fastboot flash recovery "c:\Users\huddie\Desktop\HTC Desire Upgrade\recovery.img"
sending 'recovery' (4216 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.608s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed) <==============
finished. total time: 0.609s
I've tried everything I can think of and find on xda-developers, androidforums.com and everywhere else.
What I would like is a reasonably easy way of doing this stuff. I know my data's safe (e-mails, contacts, etc) as it's synced, but I want a backup of my phone should a ROM upgrade fail and I need to go back to what I had. Please could someone help me with this as I'm a noob and I'm struggling!
Here are the details of my phone:

I bought the phone ready rooted so I know nothing of what ROM the seller rooted it with.
Try moving the recovery.img to c:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools\
Make sure you run "cmd" with administrator privilages.
Then do
Code:
cd c:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools\
Next:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
And
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
See what happens.
You could also try recovery from my signature, it's much better than CWM.

Thanks k3lcior. It seems it won't let fastboot do any remote operations like erase or flash, but does allow fastboot reboot to restart the phone. "remote: not allowed" would suggest to me a permissions or privilege issue on the Desire. How do I enable remote fastbooting on the Desire ?
On the ROM Manager option, I've found that installing the Superuser app has allowed ROM Manager to get SU privileges and now it can do a boot to recovery. However, when I boot to recovery I still get the red triangle and have to reseat the battery. I tried flashing a recovery image again from ROM Manager and it thinks it's doing it, but still the recovery won't boot.
I know I don't have BusyBox installed but then haven't been told I need it. Do I ? If I do need it can someone please direct me to an ***easy noob's*** guide to installing it and what it's for ? Thanks!
Any help from you experts would be much appreciated!!

Download this, put it on your sdcard (root of the sdcard, not into any folders), rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" and boot into bootloader.
Apply update, and should be fine.
Alternately, you could download Root Toolbox PRO from the Market (paid app), then download the .img file of the Recovery you want to use, put that in the root SD card directory, then rename it simply "Recovery.img"
That done, open Root Toolbox, click the Advanced button, click Erase Recovery first, then flash Recovery. You're good to go.
If you need Busybox, you could also install that from an app in the Market called "Busybox Installer." It's idiot-proof to use it.

Thanks k3lcior. I'm away from home but will try this when I get back. Much appreciated! In the meantime, can you tell me what it is ? Is it a recovery ROM or a permissions fix maybe ?

HTC DESIRE Flash Recovery
Hello, i bought my HTC Desire used and already rooted, but i think was rooted by old method, with these values : Bravo PVT1 -SHIP S-ON HBOOT 0.80.000
the recovery was the HTC default recovery (Android system recovery <2e>), when i tryed to go into recovery mode apears phone with red triangle, after press VOL UP + power appears the options Reboot system now ; Aply sdcard:update.zip ; wipe data/Factory reset ; Wipe Cache partition.
Now i made my Desire S-OFF with Alpharev method without install custom recovery. So now i have S-OF and HBoot 0.93, but in recovery mode is still the same red triangle symbol, after VOL UP + power i have same options.
After i made S-OFF , when i digit my pin number and android appears is giving me many erros like: the process com.android.phone ended unexpectedly. try again, android.process.acore, com.htc.opensense.pluginmanager, com.android.mms, and some more.... after that phone is going to digit pin again.
Now i want to install new ROM, and make full data wipe.
Should i change my default Recovery ? install new Recovery? If so, how i can do it and which one? To install new rom i must download new rom and rename it to update.zip and use the option that i have in my default recovery ?? or i should use over method ??
I know is lot of information and lots of questions, but i don't know my next steps regarding recovery, install new rom etc
Please use the search and read the noob guide.
Hi, use Bortak guide from top of Q&A, everything there...

[Q] Help! Can't go into recovery mode with Desire Z hboot‏ (G2)

I have a Tmobile G2 rooted running Gingervillian (gingerbread 2.3.1) and I tried to install the Desire z hboot to get the Sense ui.
I followed the steps here, "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogZfSWLlvPg"
HERES THE PROCEDURE OF WHAT I DID:
After updating the PC10IMG.zip (Desire Z hboot) folder to the root of my G2, I was stuck on the HTC logo screen after updating. So I followed what the guy said in the video, deleted the PC10IMG file in my SD card then rebooted my phone.
After rebooting my phone, I was booted back same rom. So I flash/recovery my phone through Rom Manager and tried rebooting my phone to clockwork mod recovery mode.
After rebooting, I didn't go to Clockwork Mod but to FASTBOOT screen? I select "bootloader" and it goes to a quick load that says something like "SD loading, no image or wrong image". I select "Recovery" then it goes to the HTC logo for a split second then I'm back to FASTBOOT screen again.
This is the info on the fasboot screen? don't know if that'll help:
Vision pvt eng S-off

Microp-0425
Radio-26.02.15_m2
eMMC-boot
Sep 8 2010, 15:65:38
So now, I don't know what to do and my questions are:
1.) Is there a way to go back to the G2 hboot?
2. Can I still fix this and procedure on and install new roms on recovery clockwork mode, using Desire Z hboot? (as the video did)
Please help a brother out I'm still a noob and still learning. If this is in the wrong place, please move it to the correct place.
Anyone? if it seems confusing, please ask questions or if I need to provide more information. I really need help with this. Any suggestions will help.

would any PP99IMG.zip file work? And do I basically put it in the SD's root and put it into the boot menu to update the file?
Thanks
by the way, is this compatible with G2s?
don´t put the pp99img.zip on your sd !
do something different:
download a recovery.img (3.0.2.4 for vision):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
be sure to remove any pc10img.zip or so from your sdcard. then put your phone in fastboot mode (power & tp-wake) connect it to pc and flash the recovery through fastboot by typing: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
after that you should be able to enter recovery. be sure to wipe before installing a new rom...

Yes, you can run adb on a Mac. See the link to my adb guide in my signature (assuming you're not viewing from the XDA app, which doesn't show the full sig).
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Okay, just to make it clear (I am a "step by step" guy when it comes to technical computer/phone stuff.), from my understanding:
1. Download the recovery.img (3.0.2.4 for vision) and put it in the root of my SD card.
2. Delete any pc10img.zip files from SD card.
3. Turn phone off and then turn phone onto FASTBOOT mode by holding power/volume down/camera or power and tp-wake? (Btw what's tp-wake? and during this process, is the phone in fastboot screen mode while I'm about to type the "flashboot flash recovery recovery.img"?
4. Connect to computer, open up terminal (Mac) and do the ADB process and type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
5. Wipe clean and install new rom in recovery mode? (Clockwork Mod recovery mode?)
PLEASE correct my steps or add in any steps that I'm missing. I bought my phone rooted so I never went through these steps before. Anyways please correct me, I don't want to ruin my phone anymore than it is already.
anyone can review my steps?
good morning
ad step 1: don´t put it onto your sd; put it into the adb tool folder on your pc !
ad step 3: tp-wake = the square button at the bottom of your phone (the one that acts like a mouse); to enter fastboot mode press power & tp-wake
...the phone should be in fastboot mode while typing the command.
before you type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" type "fastboot devices" and look if your phone shows up... if so go ahead with flashig the recovery (by the way, you may have to rename the recovery file)
step 4 and 5 look fine...
good luck
okay, I will try it in a little bit here.
In FASTBOOT USB mode, it wont recognize my device but when my device is fully on, adb works.
I get when I type "flashboot devices" (while the phone is on FASTBOOT) in terminal and get:
"-bash: fastboot: command not found"
By the way, I renamed the downloaded flash to "recovery.img" and put that file in the "platform-tools". Don't know if that'll work.
The "fastboot" command should be on your PC in the same folder as the "adb" command. Where did you get adb from, did you install the SDK and platform tools, or something cut-down ?
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
hm... that means that you do not have fastboot installed. maybe google for fastboot on mac, because i have a linux system... so i can´t help you in that point.
other thing you could do is following this guide (it´s a pc10img.zip with dz hboot and clockwork recovery):
http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
but first i would try the fastboot method - it´s safer.
Okay, I got the fastboot devices to read my phone. But it cannot load my recovery.img?
This is what got when I typed in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" :
error: cannot load 'recovery.img'
rename it to recovery and try again...
It's not loading the img file for some reason..

Stuck on HTC screen - can't access

Hi
I've looked on here already to try to find a (working) solution for my problem but haven't so far. My HTC desire was
downgraded from ICS to a gingerbread rom successfully - however - upon trying to unlock (unbrand) my phone the
software was stopping this so i tried to install a stock rom on it via usb cable. It downloaded successfully and rebooted.
But when it restarted it stuck on the "htc" loading screen. The only way i can turn it off is to remove the battery - also
when i try to enter recovery it just sticks on the HTC screen too.
This is what it says on the HBOOT screen:

Okay thanks a lot, just done it now.
I typed in fastboot erase memory and this pops up:

Any idea what this means?
I did the second part anyway and it went into recovery fine, i tried to install a zip from sd but it aborted it because it was "bad"

If you want it neat and clean to start from beginning, download alpharev downgrade hboot, flash it via fastboot (follow the instructions from site), download 2.3 RUU from htcdev, unpack it and run from your PC.
The previous attempt to return to stock GB ended with failure because you have revolutionary hboot which is write protected and hboot and radio can't be flashed. So, you had the old radio on your device (RADIO-4.05.00.11) and GB needed a newer one and after flashing it didn't want to boot.
With downgrade you will unlock write protection and RUU will overwrite both hboot and radio.

Hi again, thank you for your reply. I'm new to this and when i ran through the instructions on alpharev, it didnt work so im obviously doing something wrong, and don't want to mess it up so could you please say whether this is the correct way to do it
From the instructions on alpharev its goes as:
1) nandroid backup in recovery - I have 4ext recovery, so i just basically click "backup" right?
2) download bravo_downgrade.img
3) go into hboot (power+back button)
Now this is the bit im confused about:
fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.
I don't see these options available to me, is this because I have 4ext and just need the normal clockworkmod?
Thankyou.

[Q] please help to unbrick my HOX

Hello, i just messed up with my Htc One X, I want to flash the ARHD 10.6 but i got bootloop, then i tried to restore from my back up but i don;t know why everything is fone in my sd card. I tried to go back to stock with RUU. My cid is HTC__203, so i tried to flash with the
Europe 2.17.401.2 HTC - but it keeps show signature error 132.
I don't know what to do, then my brother change my hboot to 1.28
Does someone has an idea please? I am really desperate. It is forever bricked? thank you
get into fastboot and check are you locked or unlocked ?
I already unlock it and to flash ruu i relock it
- Unlock it
- Flash the latest recovery "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
- Extract boot.img from the Rom.zip you want to flash (preferably a jellybean rom)
- "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
- "fastboot erase cache"
- Boot into recovery and flash the ROM.zip
edit: you might try flashing the boot.img from ARHD 10.6 and fastboot erase cache and see if it boots
The problem is i can't get access to my phone. It get stuck to the screen with htc logo and there is nothing on my sd card right now. I tried to push file via adb but it also show no result
turn it off (long press the power button) then turn it on to fastboot, flash the boot.img and erase cache
I tried, i keep havin the bootloop(
Just hold the power button and volume down until it goes to bootloader.
Yes, I did go to bootloader, erase cache and flash the boot.img, but I'm havin the sam issue
Reflash recovery in fastboot, boot up recovery, usb mount, put firmware on and flash it. Then flash boot.img again in fastboot. That works, and if not, YOU are doing something wrong.

Thank you, with your instruction I can finally flash a rom. I did flash viper 2.6. It goes to the lockscreen but when I unlock, it shows : "venom tweaks stop working", and show blank screen with green htc logo. I'm downloading the ARHD jelly bean rom and give it a try. Thank you
Now, i am having the issue with my phone who doesn't recognise my internal sd card. I did a factory reset and went to the recovery to make sure that the sdcard is mounted, but still hain the same problem

[Q] Wildfire stuck on HTC logo after restoring stock rom

Hi guys,
I'm going crazy with this Wildfire. I had Cyanogenmod on this unlocked device. I tried to restore a stock Marvel ROM. After that I could not start the phone anymore, it's just stuck at white screen with HTC logo. I booted in boot mode and could not get to recovery. I managed to install via fastboot USB a clockwork recovery, from there I could install some ROMs I found (including Marvel and Cyano) but after rebooting my phone just reached the HTC logo and stays stuck there. I can't RUU because for some reason the process fails during upgrade.
Any idea?

I'm stuck on it aswell but I can go into Recovery.
However when I try and install the stock rom:
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.2 4H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.zip
I get the error message:
Amend scripting (update script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery . Please switch to edify scripting ( update - script and update binary) to create working update zip packages. Installation aborted.
and when I try the safe flash zip:
Buzz_Froyo_hTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_SAFE_FLASH_ZIP
it always says its bad.
Also when I download the .exe instead of zip and it runs through the program it finds the phone but says it has less than 30% battery even though I have been charging my phone from the socket for 2 days.
Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks, Aadil

No, didn't work.
And the guide is for downgrading hboot which I've done.
I have clockwork Recovery mod v4.0.1.4 and I think I need 5
but whenever I try to flash a zip I get the error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Instalation aborted.

If you don't i'd recommend this rom it does run quite a bit faster than sense http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/2808/cm-7.2.0-buzz.zip
it's what i use on my buzz

thats the problem, I get that error message whenever I try to flash a zip
before you try flashing anything did you format everything but ext_sd card?
recovery 5 http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip
also try seeing if there is a adb/fastboot option somewhere in your recovery when you find it open it
then from your pc / run from your adb/fastboot dir
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader

you will need these http://adbdriver.com/upload/AdbDriverInstaller.exe (adb drivers) also make sure to uninstall any htc desktop software you have installed, you will need to install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 (adb+fastboot tools) and afterwards put that downloaded recovery zip into that folder it would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot if you have a x64bit operating system otherwise it would be at C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot\
then you would need to use your fastboot mode > when you hold your vol buttons+pwr button during startup select fastboot there and then from your pc using the commands i speciefied you would overwrite the recovery with a newer one so to do that the easiest would be to use the shortcut on your desktop that the minimal adb installer creates ,
so open minimal adb shortcut on your desktop
then excecute these commands
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader

Clockworkmod 5 worked when I flash it but when I restart my phone it goes back to version 4
You have to flash recoveries with pc's , just flashing it with your existing recovery won't help at all, so you need to use the software i provided links for and use that adb commands to overwrite your existing recovery so do>take out the battery from the phone and unplug it>then>put battery back >
then run the adb shortcut on your desktop>
then just hold pwr+vol btns simultaneously>then
at the very top - select "Fastboot",and connect your phone with the USB Cable to your PC.Then it should say "Fastboot USB" on your phone's screen.>
Type:
fastboot flash zip recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip
afterwards reboot your phone and then try flashing another zip and see if it works
