ever since doing the ota and fota my phone was upgraded to 2.3.5 and the most recent radio version. However, I have had connection issues ever since.
My question is. I have downloaded RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.33.401.2_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_185724_signed.exe, located its temp files and found ROM.zip, inside which is the image file for the radio version which i found flawless. Can I thru fastboot flash radio.img and restore the phone back to an older radio version?
I tried to install the ROM.zip by following a guide to the letter, but hboot said it was incorrect file.
My phone is current s-on but unlocked thru htcdev, CWM recovery is installed, and has been rooted and is working.
thanks
I don't think you can flash the radio with s-on.
i had a suspicion that would be the case, so I've ordered an xtc clip

too early, mate. you could have downgrade your device to 1.33.401.2 and then install the new hboot from htcdev again (the latest version does not include a new radio anymore) and re unlock your bootloader.

does this mean even if i s-off with xtc clip i can't downgrade
no, the clip will give you absolute freedom.
but if you only wanted to achieve the old radio there would have been a way to do so without the clip.

thew, thats good to know, can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial in how to do what i want, whilst i wait for the arrival of the clip.
Thanks given to you all
Follow that tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445867
then you will be able to flash the official 1.33.401.2 RUU. (but you first have to lock the bootloader again with fastboot oem lock)
in 1.33.401.2 there is hboot 1.03.0000, the hboot will bypassing installation because it can not be downgraded. That means if your device was unlocked before, you can unlock it again.

So let me see if I got this right.
Relock boot loader using fast boot OEM lock
Follow changing version guide
Flash the from that I want
And then unlock again if I want root
exactly
booted phone into fastboot
entered fastboot oem lock - phone now relocked
start following guide for error 190 fix.
got to:
./data/local/tmp/zergRush
*zergRush will kill adb, start it again with*
but it didn't kill adb $ sign still remained, so moved onto next step
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
and i get permission denied.
where am i going wrong
Problem solved, followed error 190 guide, skipped the parts regarding zergrush, completed flash in #prompt.
rebooted phone, let hboot do its work, then got a menu asking me what i wanted to update, or in my case would have been a downgrade.
Thanks given to theq86

Hi there !
I would like to S-OFF or unlock bootloader of my Orange FR branded WFS. HTCdevs method does note seem to work, ROM or bootloader is too wreid and not supported by official orange hboot updater from htcdevs. After some tricks (goldcard I guess), I succeed in installing "Europe hboot" from htcdevs, but it doesn't help in any way : fastboot oem command returns an error 1, command error . Hboot might be too old to know these commands.
By searching on XDA, I found a tool called temproot that allows me to root the phone until I reboot it.
my HBoot version is 0.90.0000 and radio 7.53.39.03M.
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL.
HTC drivers, andro SDK, Java, debuging mode,... are probably ok. I use Windows 7x64 and Linux Mint.
I think I said everything. If you want more details or explainations, I'll do my best to answer preciselly, even if I'm a noob .
Thanks !

The unlockable European HBOOT is version 1.08.0099, so I take this to mean that you successfully updated to a generic EU HBOOT (0.90.0000) which is not unlockable, but can be updated to 1.08.0099. Thus,

So you need to go back to htcdev and update your HBOOT to the unlockable one. When you do, HBOOT will show:

Thanks for (very) fast answer and making me realize that I successfuly downgraded my HBoot (that's what I was searching to do).
I believed that it should allow me to upgrade with unlockable HBoot too, but I forgot to say that when I try to update HBOOT the way htcdev tells using their HTC_EU-1.09.0099 / ORANGE_FR-1.09.0099 / Any 1.08.0099 HBoot, I get an error 191, my ROM is NOT up to date. I have no ROM update possible with my f****** provider custom ROM. Is it possible to change this ROM to the official HTC ROM (using my temp rooting and adb shell or I don't know what), so that I can get last updates, flash HBoot with HTC_EU-1.09.0099 and get custom ROM (such as CM7.2) ?
Or I am thinking wrong on the way it works (probably the case : I learned everything alone) ?
Edit : I believe that this would have worked, if the given link weren't dead.......... Uploading website are all closed. That's a shame.
Thank you,
KennyG9
Try this:
1. Run the RUU...exe for updating the HBOOT again but don't try to update. Instead, find the temporary folder it created to extract the files needed for the install. It will look something like C:\Users\[LoginName]\AppData\Local\Temp\{82B23FCD-D5D0-45CA-A3A2-5350D3926551}.
2. In one of the subfolders, find rom_02.zip from and copy it to another location on your hard drive. Rename it PG76IMG.zip. You can close the RUU wizard now.
3. Move PG76IMG.zip to the root folder of your Goldcard.
4. Boot the phone into HBOOT (turn it off, pull the battery for 5 sec. and replace it, hold down volume and press the power button). Once in HBOOT, the phone will find PG76IMG.zip and try to install it. Follow the directions on the screen.
5. Do a factory reset and reboot.

For interested people, you can get rom_01.zip and rom_02.zip. It corresponds to PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.09.0099_0209_R.exe file. (Orange FR 2.14.73.1 PG7610000)

software s-off????
After spending 3 days trying to upgrade my hboot so i could unlock my bootloader, i somehow ended up with s-off! here are the steps i followed.
1) try updates from htcdev - didnt work
2) made goldcard, tried updates - didnt work
3) gained temp root using adb and zergrush, worked
4) hex edited the rom version number - didnt work
5) placed rom_2 on sd card - worked, sort of, updated the radio, but not the bootloader, "cannot rollback hboot"
6) placed rom_1 on sd card -worked, updated the radio
7) went into hboot to try to flash rom_2 again, voila! s-off!!!!
dont ask me if this is a way to s-off devices without xtc clip, all i know is it is what has worked for me, so i thought i would share.

Hi, I'm going to buy a One X today. It will probably come with 1.20 or 1.26. I will do S-OFF but I'm a update maniac. I want to use the newest things. I saw 1.28 update came with HBOOT, SYSTEM and RADIO updates. Can I do S-OFF after I installed the 1.28 update or can I update HBOOT, SYSTEM and RADIO after I do S-OFF?
i don't have mine yet and i'm no expert, but if HTCDev isn't working with the update then it will be fixed soon.
There is no way of gaining s-off just yet, only way of unlocking the bootloader is through htcdev
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
I was thinking that unlocking the bootloader through HTCDev as same as S-OFF, sorry about that. I'm chancing my question: Can I unlock bootloader after I installed the 1.28 update or can I update HBOOT, SYSTEM and RADIO after I unlocked bootloader?
You can unlock the hboot via htcdev after the update. Just did it yesterday. Would be a tad strange if it didn't, right?

Yes, would be strange if it didn't but I wanted to make sure Thanks for answer.
I bought my One X a few days ago. I unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev, then downloaded the update. (it will be in /sdcard/download/) I copied the zip to my PC. Inside the zip there's a file called firmware.zip. inside firmware.zip are the radio, hboot, rcdata, boot and such. Just delete those and repack/sign the whole zip again. Now I still got unlocked hboot 0.43 instead of 0.93 wich is inside the update.

Exact steps how do to the whole thing would be nice You see, when you say "just delete those" and flash, I can imagine each person trying this doing it different way, including possibility of bricking the phone.
Hello, just a quick question. I had my One rooted, s-off, and unlocked when my microphone went. So I relocked, s-on, and flashed an RUU via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216. Just making sure that before I pack it in the box, there is nothing else that could trip the people at Verizon that I had messed with my phone. I took the OTAs up to 4.3. I'm just paranoid about info not matching up such as the baseband version and build number etc. Thanks
Does the bootloader say locked or relocked? Locked is good relocked not so much. Other than that you should be fine. Ruu's wipe everything and install it all fresh, including the firmware (baseband, hboot, recovery, etc), so everything will match up.
In the bootloader I have "Locked" also s-on. I noticed though with the refurbished phone I received (not happy about having to get refurbished but thats besides the point) the CID number shows in the bootloader screen whereas on my original phone it is not displayed. Not sure if I even need to be this worried, but I'm just paranoid. Thanks
Are both phones on the same hboot version? I dont remember if it showed in older hboots or not. Either way i wouldn't worry, locked and s-on is all you need.
No they weren't. I'm just going to stop worrying too much about it. Thanks
If i send my phone back to verizon do i have to be on the original ROM? i understand that i need to lock my bootloader and have s-on, but what about the software itself?
It can be on stock rom/firmware of any version. Just no custom roms or anything.
Just to confirm, if I have a phone that is S-OFF, unlocked:
1. Do I need to lock the bootloader before flashing an RUU?
2. Does flashing an RUU revert the phone to S-ON?
3. Does anything special otherwise need to be done to the phone prior to flashing the RUU?
Thanks so much in advance.
I also have to return a phone to VZW due to a hardware issue (the autofocus issue finally too much for me to bear).
You only need to relock the bootloader if using a signed ruu. A decrypted ruu does not need it locked.
Flashing an ruu will not remove s-off or relock the bootloader. You can do it before or after, but i sugest after, that way if something goes wrong durring the ruu, you still have options.
Once you do the ruu you will be stock. So the only thing you would have to do is relock and go s-on.
Fantastically clear, Clumsco, thanks! Three quick additional questions
1. is there any advantage to flashing the signed RUU, and adding danger by locking the bootloader beforehand? In your links below your signature is a path to both decrypted and signed versions of the latest RUUs. So I thought to ask before going with one or the other. If there is no advantage then I guess the decrypted version would be the safer bet, right?
2. Is there a danger that locking after the RUU will result in a "relocked" versus the desired "Locked" status?
3. Will the RUU flash wipe my /sdcard area? If so I'll back everything up before embarking on this.
I VERY much appreciate the help. I ran rumrunner several months back and have forgotten a lot of the nuances. Thanks for the quick primer!

There is no difference between a signed and decrypted ruu other than what their names suggest. Ones signed ones not, both do the exact same thing to the phone.
You can lock the bootloader first. As long as you still have s-off, you have a saftey net. As long as your s-off you can change it to say what ever you want it to say. Locked, relocked, or unlocked.
Yes the ruu will wipe everything.
You will want to back up your sd.
Do the ruu.
Take the ota to kitkat.
Lock the bootloader.
Go s-on.
Thanks, everything worked. For future knowledge, can you flash signed RUU's with an S-ON device?

Yes and no. You can flash a signed ruu if s-on, but not one that is an older version than currently on the phone. It has to be the same or a newer version. This is an issue if your on kitkat, as we do not currently have a kk ruu available.

I'm trying to learn here too, that is dependent on the hboot correct? So if you were to downgrade your hboot via the thread somewhere in the VZW HTC One forum, you should be able to flash any RUU right?
Technically yes, although as far as i know there is no way to do so while s-on and locked. In order to downgrade hboot you would need to have the bootloader unlocked. Since verizon does not let us use htcdev to unlock, it would be virtually imposible.
Your responses are clear and helpful. Thanks a bunch!

UPDATE: Nevermind, I got it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470340
So, I'm setting my phone to 100% stock for a reparation at HTCs EU Repair in Poland.. unfortunately they're pretty strict when it comes to unlocked phones..
I've changed my HBoot, Recovery and ROM to stock, now I need to get my bootloader locked and get S-On.
Problem is, if I follow THIS METHOD I wont be able to get S-On afterwards, and if I follow THIS METHOD (fastboot oem writesecureflag 3) on getting S-On, I wont be able to get my bootloader relocked.. they're depending on each other... How do I get around this loop?

Do you have an RUU?
if yes, the general way is:
1- remove TAMPERED
2- set LOCKED
3- run full RUU
4- bootup make sure all is OK
5- set S-ON if absolutely necessary (S-ON should be the last thing you do, do NOT go S-ON unless you are sure everything is OK)
also, as a side note, scotty's commands can be run while in TWRP (custom recovery will give you a "rooted" adb shell), on the M8 you can even "fastboot boot <name of recovery>.img" (which boots the custom recovery without flashing it)
(on the M7 this was only possible on hboot 1.44, and on the M9 it's not possible at all)
EDIT: also setting S-ON (fastboot oem writesecureflag 3), has nothing to do with locked/relocked/unlocked bootloader
So I thought I had to return my HTC one for repair, or replacement and I RELOCKED the bootloader an UNRooted it. I can find a hundred different threads (mostly out of date) with instructions.
Originally I reloaded original Verizon firmware and watched the phone update little by little up to 5.01.
Does anyone know how to unlock and re root my phone? The last thing I thought of was trying to reload the original KitKat back on the phone if that is even possible???

I don't have the VZN version, but my understanding, sunshine gives you the ability to unlock the bootloader on VZN after s-off, so I'd suggest loading the sunshine app, and seeing if it give you that option (unlock bootloader)
Sunshine normally won't charge you $ to s-off again, once its been s-off'ed by sunshine before. So I'm guessing the same holds true (no $ to unlock the bootloader) is you already used it to s-off.

In theory, I believe YES you can downgrade since you are s-off. But i"m not sure that would help. It would help you root, but I don't know if it would help you unlock the bootloader.
If you are S-off, don't you only need a root shell to dd the right data to unlock the bootloader? If so, then perhaps boot (vs flash) TWRP and use an adb shell to unlock the bootloader?

Not too familiar with that. I can only guess that is what sunshine does ("behind the scenes") after s-off. But if there is a "manual" way to do it, and it works, than that is great!

unfortunately, i didnt bother putting VZW__001 CID in there, so you're going to temporarily need to change CID
Code:

fastboot reboot-bootloader
then you can proceed with the above, and once done you can change your cid back
