Ok I have cable internet which on a wired connection I get right around 45m/second. On my laptop over WiFi I get around 20 I understand I loose some because of WiFi, however when I do a speed test on my phone I only get 5 is there a way to get faster WiFi on my phone?

Try upgrading to the newest radios. Get them here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 . While in WiFi settings, hit your menu button. Should be a option for advanced settings. Click the one for best WiFi performance. It may help
Are you using an Wireless N router and a WiFi N enabled kernel?
I have great speed with a N band Kernnal and a N and multi band router with cable internet

As the title says guys,is wifi n enabled with the froyo OTA?
Thanks!
Nope.. as far as I see there is no option visible to user for this.
Meaning?Because I am pretty sure that my wifi signal has improved a lot after the update...
If somebody has a wireless N router, they could try changing it to N only and see if the phone is able to connect to it.
Just clicked my connection details to my N router and says speed is 54 Mbps so I guess not
Dont know about N, as I thought this was hardware, not software.
Anyway, I have noticed a better reception over wifi after the OTA update, and shows a stronger signal the OH's wildfire
There is no Wireless N in the recently released HTC Froyo update. I just tried to connect to my router only on Wireless N and it wouldn't connect.
The custom roms have it, but it's not in the OTA.
Well, that's a shame. But they must be some special kind of idiots!Having such a nice feature supported by the hardware and not by the software seems really stupid to me.Anyway, with such good reception as of now,it makes me wonder what N would be like!
Just curious. Could N consume more electricity? Maybe that's why they don't put it in.

There is a Wifi N driver in the Froyo ROM I'm using.
From my experience, it consumes a lot of battery. After some minutes of Wifi N, you can see the battery gauge lost some %.
When connected with Wifi N, I can see the connection reaches 72 mbps, while it is at 54 mbps for Wifi G.
As the battery drain is too big in my opinion, I switched my wireless router to Wifi B/G only so the Desire would connect only at G speed. With it, no problem of battery drain, battery usage is great.
I wish there was an application to switch the Desire from Wifi N to Wifi G on demand so if you need speed, you could use N (knowing the battery will empty faster), or use G for general use.
I think that is not possible but I'm not sure... normally all WiFi devices work at max speed available so if you have a router WiFi-N the Desire works in N speed.

the chipset supports many things like 720p and N wireless. however HTC have to stump up the cash to use the features from the chipset maker., otherwise there not activated to save HTC money, thats why 720p became available, HTC decided to pay for the license.
N isn't enabled because of cost not hardware limitations.
(this is information I found on the xda site using search)
I have noticed that my G2's WiFi connection runs VERY slow. I get speeds of 2mb/s while on a computer I get 25+mb/s. I get the same ping on both devices. Is this a hardware or software limitation that can be solved by a kernel fix?

Getting same problem.

O.O I don't really post on here but I'm getting pretty good spores on wifi around 12 mps down and 8 up.. would post pic but apparently says the pic is not a valid image format 8(

There is a thread about the G2/DZ having WiFi antenna issues. This happens when you use the phone in landscape mode. Signal bars drop significantly. In my case, I got totally disconnected (but I had poor WiFi signal strength that time). However, when I remove my hand from the top part of the device, signal strength and speed return. This could probably be your issue, since I really get good speed from my DZ. I could even stream movies over WiFi.
Do you have wifi calling enabled? Try disabling it and restarting. You'll likely see regular speeds again. Works for me every time.

Nope, I will be looking at the bcm4329 source when I get my computer running to see if I can boost the speed a little.
This may also be a router combatibility problem. So we can narrow it down can people post this:
Router brand/model
Wireless B/G/N
Wpa wep or no security
Hidden access point (yes/no)
And if you are having problems

Router brand/model: Airlink 300N
Wireless B/G/N: Wireless N
Wpa wep or no security: WPA
Hidden access point (yes/no): no
And if you are having problems: Only when wifi calling is enabled. Must disable that and restart in order to get expected speeds. For example, it drops from standard 12mbit to like 1mbit.
Oh yeah forgot to post mine...

Wireless N

I have the same problem with my G2.
Wi-Fi is on all the time when I'm at home, as is Wi-Fi calling because the signal is very weak here. When I first connect to Wi-Fi it's very fast. Normally I get approximately 17mbps down, 3.5mbps up. However, it seems like the connection "goes stale" after a while and I end up only getting about 2-3mbps both up and down.
It's not consistent though. Sometimes it gets slow right away, other times it will take a couple hours. But it always drops to the 2-3mbps range consistently. Plus I always have issues with the connection after it drops in speed: No connection errors, sometimes unresponsive, etc.
To fix it I simply turn Wi-Fi off and back on, but that gets to be a hassle because I have to do it every time I want to use my phone.
It has nothing to do with holding the phone in vertical or horizontal orientation, or signal strength, because even when I'm using the phone right next to the router it still happens. I never had this issue with my Cliq, but it didn't have Wi-Fi calling, which I'm thinking is the cause. Though I haven't tested it to see if it still happens with Wi-Fi calling off.
It happens with any ROM, though currently running CM7 Nightly 27.
Anyone have an explanation, or a solution?
Update: After testing it seems to only happen when wifi calling is enabled. Although I have to turn wifi off and back on to fix it. Simply turning off wifi calling doesn't fix it.

Hello, I have 3 access points at home and S3 appears to stick to whatever access point out connects first, is there a application which will make it switch WiFi ap bars on signal strength?

Not as far as I know. I asked & looked before too.
I have a dualband 802.11g & n WNDR3700 router running DDWRT. My phone almost always ends up switching to and then stuck on the slower G after I roam more than a few hundred feet from my router, because G has better range than N due its longer wavelength. I'd like it to switch back to the stronger & faster N when I move nearer to the AP, but it doesn't currently look to be possible because not enough people are clamoring for this niche feature.
It doesn't really matter too much to me, though, since I rarely NEED the extra bandwidth that N affords over G, except when adb pushing large files from the LAN. (Wireless G is still faster than most people's cable internet)

When connecting to a 5GHz wireless network, has anyone ever gotten a Link Speed (tap the wireless network in Wi-Fi to see it) over 72Mbps?
I am sure I have set my router up right (40Mhz), but I still can't get the LG OG over 72Mbps. I think it should go to 150Mbps, unless there is a hardware limitation.

Sooo I've had my M8 for nearly a month now and I love the thing. However, I notice that I've been having some issues with the M8 not being able to detect or connect to my home and office's wifi. My laptop and my fiance's Nexus 5 can detect our home wifi network with full strength.
Interestingly, the closer I get to my router, the stronger the signal gets, but the moment I move maybe 20 feet away into another room, the wifi cuts out or gets very weak. I understand that distance is a factor, but I feel that my M8 should be able to connect to my router in the next room, especially when other devices can do so with no problem.
I think it's also worth noting that this was not always an issue. This only started happening recently - the only software upgrade that I did was the Verizon push that installed right out the box. I have not made any changes to my wifi network at home or work.
I've tried a couple of things with no resolution, including;
Resetting my router (power cycling)
Restarting my phone
Forgetting both wifi networks and manually re-adding them
Changing my wifi direct name
Turning on airplane mode, turning off my wifi, turning off airplane mode then turning on wifi (this was a suggested method for the M7 that I saw on another forum)
I did some Googling and didnt find much, so maybe I just have a lemon, but I did see that wifi connectivity was an issue with the M7.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I'm having the exact same problem getting over 20Mbps over Ethernet but then 0.25Mbps on my M8 over WiFi even when close to router
Have you guys played around with your routers settings?
What signal is your router on, wireless b,g,n,ac?
Is it throwing mixed frequency? (2.4ghz or 5ghz or both)
Go to WiFi settings in the phone, then advanced, then it will probably say "auto".
Try setting it on only 2.4ghz or only 5ghz see if that helps.

Tried that and my router is just b and g suppose upgrading to an n or ac router would sort it
