I have noticed that my G2's WiFi connection runs VERY slow. I get speeds of 2mb/s while on a computer I get 25+mb/s. I get the same ping on both devices. Is this a hardware or software limitation that can be solved by a kernel fix?

There is a thread about the G2/DZ having WiFi antenna issues. This happens when you use the phone in landscape mode. Signal bars drop significantly. In my case, I got totally disconnected (but I had poor WiFi signal strength that time). However, when I remove my hand from the top part of the device, signal strength and speed return. This could probably be your issue, since I really get good speed from my DZ. I could even stream movies over WiFi.
Do you have wifi calling enabled? Try disabling it and restarting. You'll likely see regular speeds again. Works for me every time.

Nope, I will be looking at the bcm4329 source when I get my computer running to see if I can boost the speed a little.
This may also be a router combatibility problem. So we can narrow it down can people post this:
Router brand/model
Wireless B/G/N
Wpa wep or no security
Hidden access point (yes/no)
And if you are having problems

Hidden access point (yes/no): no
And if you are having problems: Only when wifi calling is enabled. Must disable that and restart in order to get expected speeds. For example, it drops from standard 12mbit to like 1mbit.

I have the same problem with my G2.
Wi-Fi is on all the time when I'm at home, as is Wi-Fi calling because the signal is very weak here. When I first connect to Wi-Fi it's very fast. Normally I get approximately 17mbps down, 3.5mbps up. However, it seems like the connection "goes stale" after a while and I end up only getting about 2-3mbps both up and down.
It's not consistent though. Sometimes it gets slow right away, other times it will take a couple hours. But it always drops to the 2-3mbps range consistently. Plus I always have issues with the connection after it drops in speed: No connection errors, sometimes unresponsive, etc.
To fix it I simply turn Wi-Fi off and back on, but that gets to be a hassle because I have to do it every time I want to use my phone.
It has nothing to do with holding the phone in vertical or horizontal orientation, or signal strength, because even when I'm using the phone right next to the router it still happens. I never had this issue with my Cliq, but it didn't have Wi-Fi calling, which I'm thinking is the cause. Though I haven't tested it to see if it still happens with Wi-Fi calling off.
It happens with any ROM, though currently running CM7 Nightly 27.
Anyone have an explanation, or a solution?
Update: After testing it seems to only happen when wifi calling is enabled. Although I have to turn wifi off and back on to fix it. Simply turning off wifi calling doesn't fix it.

anyone got weird intermittent wireless issues?
Every now on then, and then seemingly only on some apps, wireless network connectivity will come to a crawl and / or seemingly stop completely. Apps time out etc. but I know the network is fine as my flatmate's galaxy nexus / my laptop remain fine. The most common culprit is the play store. I turn off wireless and go on HSPA, wait a while, go back to wireless, all good.
Also, once I had to kill chrome beta to fix it.
What gives?
I am having some minor wifi issues too, but i think they are slightly different from wintermute's problem.
Both my wifes and my One X won't reconnect to our wifi after returning to the house. The only way I have been able to get them to re-connect is to reboot the router.
The One X's try to reconnect appear to, then instantly disconnect and just keep cycling. Turning the wifi off and on doesn't seem to help.
Our Asus transformer and the laptop don't seem to have any issues if taken out of wifi range and then moved back in.

Hi there's a few forum posts about this. A number of us has had this issue...the One X would not have good WiFi speeds, or would completely stop whereas all other WiFi enabled devices on the same network at the same time would be fine. A reboot of the router seems to fix this for most of us. Doesn't quite make sense why the One X would be affected by a wifi issue but not other devices, but seems to do the trick for most people. Its been 7 days now since I had my One X, and since rebooting the router, the wifi issues have not returned.
I'm a cisco tech in real life and trust me its not my wireless setup... proof is that all other droids work fine (my old nexus, atrix my flatmate's galaxy nexus etc.) unless there is some super esoteric setting that the HTC one requires
having said that I have rebooted my WAP a couple of times (in addition to tweaking my router a bit re: IOS firewall, some tcp-mss tweaks I was using etc.) and it does seem better. Still at a loss to understand why no other device has any issues except for this
I'm seeing wifi drop and reconnect all the time on my One X.
Signal strength isn't an issue, I'm sat 3m from the AP however their are lots of wifi networks in this building so could be an issue with interference...
I don't have any issues with my laptop or old Desire on this wifi..
I see the same issues at the office but again their are lots of wifi networks at that location too...

Hi there,
I had a problem with my HOX and my German Fritzbox Router...it would connect, but then not letting any data through...and then even disable the whole WiFi signal so that my laptop, ps3 and Samsung Tab did not get a connection anymore...reset of the Fritzbox was necessary....loads of HOX user reported the issue in a German forum, and one suggested to set the WLAN signal from b+g+n 2.4 to only b+g 2.4 and voila....problem has disappeared...price is that connex max at 54 Mbits now...but I can live with that...try it...maybe it solves some people's WiFi issues...until someone or HTC themselves figure out a working solution with a full wireless n support...

I am experiencing the same issues but with the one s, not the WIFI ones the actual network stops all of a sudden and usually within 1 minute comes back.
It happens about once a day.
The only real problem I have is with the WLAN stick which I use on my pc as hotspot. My Phone connects but after a few minutes I have to restart WLAN on phone so it works again. With the router at my parents home (Fritz-Box) I dont have this problem. I use connectify lite on my pc. With the built-in hotspot in windows 7 it just wont work out. Maybe someone else have this kind of issue and knows a solution.
I have the same problem at home and at work.
Disabling WiFi-N on the AP fixes the problem.
At the office we have Netgear WNAP210 and at home I have a Draytec Vigor 2710VDn
Can't quote xda app giving me invalid thread id error, but I have the same exact issue at work, the linksys wag120n router I use as wap, connected to a net gear router, most times when the phone disconnects, and only the hox, it takes down the internet for even those pcs connected directly to the net gear router, strangely I only need to reboot the linksys router to get things working again.... Weird.
I think the hox is doing something, like sending repeated dhcp requests (as in a bug on hox) and taking out the dhcp server. Although of course various routers would behave differently to this. My home network is fine. Not affected ever.

Ok guys so I've been complaining about my WiFi speed and loading time of the phone so far. I have a new router and I've even tried sitting right next to it! But still the same thing!
I'm sure that I'm not the only person who feels that the phone is slightly slow on WiFi out of the box with standard settings.
I have actually solved the problem and It's a very EASY fix! Do the following:
1. Settings>WiFi>Advanced >Tick best WiFi performance.
I did this and honestly is like a new phone! I am so much more happy with the phone. The difference is night & day!
I hope this helps people start loving their One X again!

What about battery consumption with this seting on though?
That was always my biggest concern for not using this setting.
Router Settings
Hi there,
when I got my HOX out of the box at home and connected it vie WiFi to my WLAN Router Fritzbox 7570 vDSL the HOX connected, but it was not possible to bring up a website like www.google.com, and after very little time the whole WiFi network collapsed, with all other clients showing only restricted connection, but no access to the internet anymore....restarting of the router was necessary.
In a German forum someone suggested to switch the WLAN from 2.4Ghz b+g+n to 2.4Ghz b+g which is a setting option with my particular Fritzbox.
I did so, and voila....no problems whatsoever anymore... HOX showing 54Mbits as does my Samsung Gtab 10.1n or my laptop...
just checked when the router is set to WLAN 2.4Ghz b+g+n the HOX shows 11Mbits and the laptop 130Mbits...
Maybe it is a good idea to see if you have a setting on your router to disable the n standard and only run b+g...and report back.
Then you don't need the Best WiFi setting at all...at least I don't need it!

I am quite sure the battery will get a hit. No free lunches.
I do notice when the signal is weak my wifi seems to disconnet and reconnect.
I have just noticed there is another option that says switch network when the wifi signal is weak. I have loads of wifi signals around my area. Maybe it was trying to connect to my neighbours. I have unticked it now (default is ticked!) and see if that issue still comes up.
But the disconnect/reconnect was pretty fast. Nontheless it is still annoying.

Well some people may have devices at home that run at N. Switching the router off to G-only may not be desirable. But as I said above, try unticking the auto switching option. It could be the phone was trying to switch band when it detected the current signal was weak.
Im sure most of us had already tried this. I'm still unable to connect to most networks or my connection gets cut off every 20 minutes or so. HTC rep explained that there must be an issue with the networkS I'm trying to connect to, as he is able to exclude a bardware failure ias a possible cause by virtue of the fact that I'm not entirely unable to connect to a network. He went on to say that you may compare this to a Turbo on a car, it is either broken or in complete working order. I was stunned at his incompetence in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
Bottom line is, it's impossible to get a proper connection on my phone.

Ok so I will post my battery usage after today of having best WiFi performance on. Seems like it may use an extra 1-2% so far. Will know for sure ay the end of the day.
One thing I can notice is that when I look at the battery stats the WiFi usage bar is solid blue now. Or used to have multiple broken lines through it.

Have been pulling my hair since day one with this problem and thanks to this thread i must say i'm a bit relieved to see that i'm not alone. Have changed everything in my WiFi settings now and the only thing that have improved it somewhat was when i changed the encryption to just wep.

- Changing encryption to WEP (or even none) works
- Changing band (2.4Ghz to 5Ghz) does not work, even when forced to connect to either
It's terrible, I would love a good solution. I will try all three solutions, one at a time:
- Best WiFi
- Auto disconnect
- Remove N-band from router (but why oh why should we do that!!)

- use only WEB as security
Hi, is anyone else having poor wifi connectivity on your M8?
My wifi signal will drop completely after a period of time. Conducted speed test and speed turned out to be much lower as compared to my Nexus 5 on the same wifi network, and somehow websites/apps take ages to load via Wifi.
Am on 1.54.707.7 (International) by the way.
Found a video that perfectly describes my problem. :silly:
Yes I'm having the same issue. tried turning off the power saving mode. what kind of works sometimes is if I turn off my mobile data off. I also heard that you Wi-Fi password needs to be 9 characters or else, seems like too much of a hassle. I haven't tried changing the password.

Finally someone who is in the same plight as I am! Haha yes I've tried that too, apparently the signal that the M8 is capable of receiving is weaker than other phones, have a friend who tried on a G2, an M8 and an Oppo Find 7a. The 7a had full bars for WiFi, 1 bar for G2 and the M8 couldn't even connect. :crying:
And about that 9 characters for password myth, yeah have heard about it too! Just counting that out as I don't see any impact it has on the WiFi connectivity though.

Hi, that worked perfectly for my M8 and my wife's M7. We had big trouble on 2.4 Ghz Networks. After long and disappointing tests for trouble shooting I found this post. And it works. Thanks alot.
am too facing the same problem, wifi keeps dropping consistently.. this happens on each and every sense rom... even on the stock rom.
did a factory reset, but no luck.. also tried turning off and on the wifi optimization in settings-wifi-advanced & changed the wifi frequency band to auto, 5 ghz & 2.4 ghz, but no luck. like it means dropping 12-15 times in 10 minutes. the power saver is also off. wifi in aosp and gpe roms works fine. any suggestions? (firmware is up to date)
Was it due to full metal body? Wifi is worse than my old Butterfly 1
Is anyone else having this problem? My phone keeps dropping the WiFi signal even if I'm next to the WiFi router. The WiFi indicater shows good signal with all bars lit at all times and I don't get any notifications of signal being low but it still doesn't load/connect to anything. It's very sporadic, but regular.. once singal is lost it won't load anything for a minute or 2 even if the WiFi on the phone is turned off and on. I've tried resetting the router but the problem still persists. All other devices connected to the same WiFi don't have any problems. I'm using the virgin super hub by netgear.

I have a similar issue at my partner's house. When I first got the phone I had no issues connecting to the 5 Ghz wi-fi connection, but lately I have issues with the 5Ghz, but connecting to his 2.4 Ghz connection works well. His device and other household devices work well on the 5 Ghz connection. It is annoying, but since the 2.4 Ghz seems quick, I am not going to worry too much about it right now. Hope there is a solution though.
I remember my z1 having similar problems...it was fixed by changing the security mode I think...wep..wpk...or something...just fool around with it...no harm in trying
I have a NetGear accesspoint that the G3 refuses to connect to regardless of the G or A bands. So frustrating.
Stard having this issue this weekend, thought it was the router location and I repositioned and still no help.
Hoping and update fixes it
I too have experienced issues with WiFi during my last 4 days of ownership. Perfect WiFi signal (I was sitting within feet of the router) yet no Internet connection. Cycling WiFi off and on fixed the issue. This occurred on two different networks using different hardware. Both were using WPA2-PSK authentication. No other devices on the network experienced any issues.

That option was already enabled on my device. I never enabled it, so it must have been on by default.
Also, when this happened, my G3 still had a valid IP address

But seems to happen on a daily basis.....!

I added static ip address and it was able to connect to the wifi but it will
be the same problem when you connect to another wifi at a different location.
Do not change network prefix length/DNS1/DNS2. Keep these the same.
You could use this as temporary fix at home atleast and connect to wifi.

I have tried:
Disabling Sprint connection optimizer
'Keep WiFi on when screen is off' is enabled
'Allow WiFi scanning' is disabled
'WiFi signal weak' is disabled (set so that it does not disconnect from WiFi when signal is weak)
'Battery saving for WiFi' is disabled
Using a static IP address
Factory Reset
Forget network
I still have had no luck. Does anybody else have any suggestions? I have about a dozen devices on my network and they play nicely; this is the only device giving me trouble. I am starting to wonder if it is time to RMA?
EDIT: It doesn't seem to happen when I connect to the WiFi at my work. Hopefully flashing a newer build of DD-WRT will remedy this. I love this phone except for that one issue; unfortunately though, this issue would be pretty hard to live with....
Same thing here. Before G3 I had G2 and Flex, both had the same wifi problem. Funny thing is that some $150 Chinese almost noname generic phones never have this problem on my home wifi. It's exclusive to LG.
Same Problem here. I am having a Nexus 5 sitting next to it. No problem with the N5 but constantly interruptions with the G3. This phone is starting to annoy the hell out of me.
I have the VZW G3 rooted, have no issues with WiFi on either antenna using an Asus dual band router.
I did have issues with a dlink, but it had issues with all phones not just the g3 so I replaced it.
