Calling all Cooks - Package Distribution Discussion

At the prompting of a post in my kitchen thread, I wanted to get some feedback from those who have been providing cooked roms for users to use. I don't know you all, since I'm relatively new to the Hermes forum.
There has been a lot of customization of exitsting packages as well as a lot of new work being done, and some users would like to cook them into their own personal builds because, quite frankly, one build doesn't meet the needs of everyone.
I would like some feedback from said cooks on having portions their work offered as an OEM package in the Pandora Kitchen - fully referencing the source. For example, a comm manager option could read: Schaps 10 Button Comm Manager.
This isn't an general opinion thread. I'm looking for the cooks themselves to post their feedback on the topic.
Mods - please help keep this one clean - I can see where this might get ugly.
ping - no cooks have any comments? I figured it just slipped to the second page and went unnoticed
not a cook but i hate to see your thread go unanswered LOL. Love the kitchen bro
As I already said, you all can freely use my Comm Manager versions, my VoIP, operator and advanced configuration tools, as well as all the customizations, theme, icons and graphics of my ROMs for ROM kitchen.
Some ROM cookers like jasjamming and vp3G use some of my creations in their ROMs, so there is no problem to provide them to end-user ROM kitchen, the purpose of XDA-Devs community is to share our finds and creations and it's always nice to see that my work is appreciated.
I also think it's important to reference the sources, to be respectful to their authors but also for better support, and if it's possible to provide a link to the dedicate thread for support/feedback concerning only this app/customization.
I'm fine with it provided proper credit is given wherever due. As schaps said... XDA Devs is about sharing. Whenever I find that rgus have been removed, etc., it irks me in this regard.
Also, it should be made abundantly clear that the original creator isn't responsible for a given package working properly with someone's recooked stuff. While that kind of goes without saying around here, a cook's repuation could get inadvertently tarnished by opening everything up to the masses (the ol' "Too many cooks in the kitchen" adage, if you will).

Why not make an overview thread for ROMs?

I've noticed that whenever someone asks, "What ROM should I use?" the responses are either brusque (e.g. "Just install whatever and find what you like,") or unverifiable ("I've had okay luck with XYZ").
When I choose a ROM, the first thing I care about are the bugs. And yet, there is no single thread in the development forum that has a list of all the current ROMs, and a list of bugs. Some developers are very good with updating the first page of their thread, clearly listing the bugs, and yet for other ROMs, you have to dig until you get to post 1579 on page 157 to find that such-and-such functionality doesn't work.
Why doesn't anybody do this? Why isn't there a sticky at the top of the development forum that clearly lists the major ROMs in development, and keeps track of the main bugs? This makes selecting a ROM much, much easier.

I can do it. But it may annoy the developers. So we need at least few people working together for it. Because personal opinions may go biased.
So, if anybody wants to collaborate, join me, PM me, I alone won't do it.
One of the problems is that there are 'known bugs', that the developers admit to, and then there are the issues that individuals have because not all devices are the same...

[Q] Posting a port

If I post a port on this primoc forum do i have to have permission from the original rom dev? even if the rom may be discontinued and the dev no longer active? Could I still post it and give them credit instead?

No you HAVE to ask. Unless they have stated otherwise, even if they have stated otherwise you MUST give credit.
In regards to shubham's cm9 kang bang rom. I would send a permissions request and give him fair time to reply. And then if no reply confer with the community about adding it with proper credits to shub for the original rom. I say this due to him no longer being online with the htc one v. If not online at all. I never could get in touch with shub after trying to contact via several methods. I do not think shub would mind as long as you gave him proper credit for his original work. To me its about continuing the community. A number of the older roms would still be very useful if bug problems were finally eliminated. Roms like Kang Bang have a lot of potential..they just need some bugs eliminated. In regard to what is best for the community,I say keeping the community active and viable to draw new development should come before certain permissions if the developer is no longer active in the community, not online at all any where and as long as they are credited for their work. Most developers would not mind seeing their work continue and fixed if possible as long as they are properly credited. Zakman I suggest private messaging the senior members of the htc development community like Simon,Llior and the current major rom developers and see how they feel about it. You might find they as a whole would be ok with it in the absence of shub as long as you did credit shub.
Well said, sir
Sent from my phone running a rom

Looking for testers

I'm trying to bring some AOSP roms to you guys and I need some testers since I don't have this device.
Please PM me (with email and I'll add you on hangouts):
You're available the MAJORITY of the afternoon/evening, as this is when I will be working on it.
You are on Eastern time or close to it.
You are not new to flashing, logcats, or adb.
First couple people that PM me will be testing.
I'll close this thread when I get enough testers

Please re-open threads by Cl3Kener

Mods, please re-open all threads created by Cl3Kener for the T989... I understand he has left XDA, but that doesn't mean we all can't still discuss his work among ourselves. While I understand he is no longer a member here, he is still a contributor to the Android world. And while he may no longer be here to support his own work, we the users certainly can. This is anything from fixes, to cherry picks, to just how it looks and runs.
C'mon mods... You know you wanna. Please don't be like corporate america and try and lock things down... This is an OPEN community for OPEN sourced development... Can we re-OPEN the threads?

Gonna have to agree with you here lol
I doubt this will happen since the developer is not around to support his own work. But if you really feel strongly about it, please PM @Judge Joseph Dredd.
Please the Member in question here, made his choices and requested to have his account disabled. Lets move on, no need to keep questioning. Thanks and Thread Closed.
