What does everyone think of a possible LG Nexus? I've never been wowed by any of their devices thus far. Anyone have first hand experience with the quality of their devices?
yes i just came from the tmobile G2x, what a horrible device. specs were good, build quality of the phone was good. just horrible support from LG and Nvidia. phone shipped with vanilla froyo, was updated to vanilla GB with same froyo kernel (after a lawsuit was filed) never fixing any of the widespread issues. nvidia would not release source, they said ask LG. LG said to ask Nvidia. for a while tmo even pulled the device from stores, later bringing it back as a free device.
Although I'm not a fan of LG phones, I trust Google's decision whatever it may. As Nexus owners we buy the device for software... mostly.

The could go for the next one in the OHA but I would doubt LG would be top of the list. When did Motorola make a nexus device then? As it says HTC , Samsung and Motorola have made them??
Just because they are in talks, I would guess they always are.
Could it be for the rumored nexus tab though?

LG is the last company I would have seen them making a Nexus phone with.
Didnt they just buy Motorola? I was hoping they would be making the next Nexus device?

Why would Motorola get preferential treatment? They stated explicitly that Motorola wouldn't. Motorola hasn't put out any great devices in a long while, in my opinion. If meental is right, LG would be a fine manufacturer. All they need to worry about is quality hardware. Google will take care of the software.

The OG Droid and Xoom are considered Nexus devices by some.
I don't want LG to make the next Nexus. Their phones typically suck, especially when it comes to build quality. Samsung should do it again.
Should probably fix title to say "LG" not "G".
LG is the absolute last manufacturer I want making the Nexus.
And is this really news? Every manufacturer is in talks with Google to make the Nexus. They all shop designs to Google to try to be the reference platform.
Like someone else has said earlier in this thread, I completely trust Google in making the decision. Most complaints about LG phones are about LG's support (although I have never owned a LG phone in my life). LG makes the phone and Google is who supports it. Not to mention that Google chooses all of the innards so all there is to worry about is the phone's design and build quality. Let's be honest, Samsung makes great phones but other than the nexus, what Samsung phone had great build quality? There may be some but from my experience with Galaxy S it felt pretty cheap like it would shatter any moment not that it wasn't a good phone. All I'm is that we won't know until they are given a chance. Samsung three years in a row doesn't seem like preferential treatment to any of you? That being said, I won't be getting the next Nexus. I'm actually waiting for the one after the next because honestly getting a new phone every year just isn't realistic for me. Just thought I give my two cents.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to what Motorola would come up with for the Nexus line.
I wouldn't mind moving on from Samsung. Nothing against them (at all. I like them, in fact), but I'd love to see other takes on the Nexus line.
I'd be willing to give HTC another go, even. But I'm most curious about Motorola. LG... I'm a bit wary of.
LG made the Chocolate. For that, I will never, ever let them down. Stay away!
Moto better make the next Nexus. The hardware is top-notch and if they tossed in a Maxx-like battery into the Nexus Maxx (see what I did there?) it would be 100% amazing.
And the car/desk docks would be available from day one, unlike the crap Samsung pulls. Where is my pogopin powered car dock? See what I mean?

They do make high quality hardware. I just hope that they'd make a non "Droid" looking model for the Nexus. Bring back normal corners and cut out all the chrome and ugly ****. I too would like to see a huge battery like that. Don't care if its not removable. By Q4 2012 with that battery technology they can push something like 4000mAh into a phone.

My problem with Moto is that they typically pick poor SoCs for their devices whereas Samsung consistently has the best SoCs on the market. Also, my previous atrix felt cheaper than the Galaxy Nexus. The only thing Moto has going for them, in my opinion, is their radio hardware/quality.

It would be really stupid for google to do that because it would completely ruin the nexus name as being the bar setter for that OS which is what google has always referred the nexus devices to be, also sprint confirmed (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) that it will ship with a 1.2 Ghz processor

This just isn't Google's way. They release a Nexus 1 time per year. They wouldn't trump their Nexus with a tiny spec bump 4 months later.

Its not a fake photo. It may however be a spoofed. The Sprint GN will probably be released around June, a half year+ after the original release. I think its more stupid of Google to release a half year old phone to such a supportive carrier (only carrier with GV integration and official Google Wallet) than to refresh the specs and piss off some users. You would have had it for months, and it will likely be unavailable on other carriers anyway.

Good lord, the intarwebs are ablaze with this story already:
http://www.google.com/search?q=galaxy nexus sgx544
I don't know what to think about this one. On one hand, it seems like plenty of sites and people have been complaining that the hardware specs should have been buffed a little bit, so I could see it happening. On the other hand, this seems like an incredibly unpopular thing for Google to do.
I was about to pull the trigger on buying one tomorrow, now I think I'll hold off until the dust settles on this story.
Additionally, it would be pretty f'd up for them to release a clearly superior model on Sprint and give the finger to the Verizon and GSM unlocked versions.
My opinion: Not going to happen.
Galaxy Nexus is fast enough (and will get faster with Android 4.1, 4.2, 4.5 ...) and there's no reason for Google to do this at all.

Same goes for the Nexus S on AT&T. There's no reason for Google to fragment their Nexus line, and piss off their loyal customers. Google really has no real gain in doing a refresh, so why would they. They chose these specs to offer a specific experience with their devices, not be apart of some spec war. The most Sprint customers would get differently is a slightly bigger battery; I don't expect anymore than that.

Everyone is saying June because that's right about the time Sprint's LTE network goes live. It could happen in May, but June is the more likely target date for Sprint's first LTE device.
Let's please stop with the multiple threads omg!
It's not Google that does this. This is entirely Samsung's doing and Samsung own a lot of rights for this phone. Samsung got their name on the phone, they got it called 'Galaxy Nexus' instead of 'Nexus Prime' that was the original name and it made some deals with some carriers for customized versions of Galaxy Nexus.
Sadly it is out of Google's hands.
This is sort of a rant, or whatever. I remember when I got into Android, if you wanted top of the line, and a phone that would have everything, you got a Nexus. The Nexus was built specifically for Google. Then the introduced the Nexus S. That is when I started to get disappointed with the Nexus. It came in three or four different models, specific to carriers. Now, I am even more appauled because they have started putting carrier stamps on them. I noticed the Sprint version as the Sprint logo on the back of it, and the Verizon version has their logo on it. It is almost seeming like "Nexus" is an OEM now. They release a Nexus on an annual basis, with different features specific to carriers, and now put the carrier name on them. That is the same thing Samsung did with the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2. HTC did it with a couple of their dual core phones, and the Hero. I dont know, it just bothers me. I used to want a Nexus back in the day, but now it is just like another manufacturer releasing a phone at the begining of the year. Wait a few months and something better will be out.

That I agree on. All I see is Moto devices being pushed and very little if ANYTHING at all about the Nexus. The fact that VZN alone held out on releasing it was pretty sad. I mean Seriously it was/should of been released here in the States first yet VZN wanted it "their" way and held off cause of Wallet? (granted there was prob more then just that) but all in all VZN screwed up the GNexus launch for the States.
I just hope that in the future Google remembers this and maybe even choses Sprint for the next Nexus device.
I remember whwn nexus one was released, it really pushed the envelope hardware wise, as well as software. Even without rooting it, I'd say it was faster than anything else out there for close to a year, till sgs. Even then, it still seemed snappier. Now though, galaxy nexus didn't really seem all that appealing before it was even released, some could argue for sgs2 being better in many aspects. And it is stuck on a carrier that's really not selling it, at a price that some of us find high. On a most expensive network. By the time Sprint gets a better version of it, nexus will be old news. Definitely not the way Google envisioned this device, considering it is supposed to be flagship

I am hoping Sprint is smart enough to beef up their version of the GN. Otherwise by the time it is released it will be looked at as a mid level device and practically irrelevant.
I am also surprised they have yet to gave any type of time frame for it's release. They must still be working on their tiered LTE data plans
Google needs to set their foot down and limit OEM's on how many device they can make in a year. They can still continue releasing their Nexus devices and force carriers to not change anything on them. Our phones will have a long shelf life and be easier to receive updates.

I have heard rumors that the "better GN" has different processors in it, supposedly its the newest version of the TI-OMAP. I also read an article on Engaget from someone who got to play with the Sprint version and they confirmed it was identical to the Verizon version (including the 1.2ghz processors), except for google wallet.
If there is in-fact a better Nexus in the making, I would think it stupid to release it as a Galaxy Nexus because it wouldnt even be the same phone.
I kind of feel bad for people upgrading and going with anything else other than sgs2. Most people will never pay full retail, so they get stuck with their device for 20 months. Do you see yourself using an evo 3d for that long?!

LG: Optimus Nexus
Sony: Experia Nexus
HTC: Nexus One X
Motorola: XY Nexus
Samsung: Nexus Note
Well these are my guesses at least
Nacho nexus.
Iphone. Helping computer illiteracy get popular since 2007.
if any good ideas come from out of this, be sure to patent it first
Goonex.....
If Apple makes it the iNexus.
But it will infringe on too many of their own patents and therefor they will never allow themselves to release it.
I kinda like the thought of an Optimus Nexus and I loathe LG.
Truth be told, I half expect it to go back to HTC. The next Nexus needs to go back to a MicroSD slot though.
I personally don't care what the name of the device is. They can name it Nexus Untitled and I'd still get it.

Well, if that is true, I for one will be very disappointed. I've owned both the Nexus One, and the Galaxy Nexus and, despite me liking the GNex, I certainly don't like:
1) It being made of plastic (vs. metal for the N1).
2) the car dock is not out yet -- it has been 5 months now with no dock, and given that I switch phones once a year, I may not even be able to get it...
I had a much better experience with HTC on the Nexus One.

With Motorola and HTC going the way of non-removable batteries, I still prefer Samsung in that aspect.
No surprise here. Samsung deserves it.
I have mixed feelings also.
Personally, I want to see another manufacturer's take on it. But also, I want Samsung to really devote some dedication to these Nexus devices. It just seems they hold back (maybe to give the better hardware to their Galaxy S line?), or maybe this is Google's fault, or both Google/Samsung's fault.
I don't know -- something about Samsung feels like they don't give it their all with the Nexus line.
They build it according to Google's specifications.
They don't "hold back" unless asked to.
I doubt they're supposed to. It is more about showcasing the software than the hardware. And I am sure Samsung doesn't want to undercut themselves by putting out a bleeding edge phone. Not even the iPhone or ipads are bleeding edge. And Google wouldn't want to infringe on the manufacturers anyways.
sent with 3g courage. better recognize. 4g courage coming soon. stock up on diapers.
If they wanted cutting edge and build quality they should've chose Sony or something...The Sony Xperia S is truly a gorgeous phone.
But i guess i'm ok with Samsung...just pls, NO MORE AMOLED. IPS+ would be awesome.
They picked samsung because despite owning motorola cellular now
picking themselves would be nepotism and they are already having a hard enough time
Keeping Samsung and Company from going out and rolling their own operating systems
in protest. Which was openly being discussed by HTC, Samsung, Sony and others in relation to awaiting Google's annoncement
on how they are going to proceed with operating Motorola's phone division.
They don't want to alienate their partners. because google is in the service/metadata/advertising business. Android fails if they alienate their partners by competing against them in their own market.
Google only bought motorola for patent protection in the Patent Cold War.
IMHO a Nexus slider with tilting screen like the HTC Arrive or Touch Pro 2 would be the best nexus ever.
I would like Vertu to make the next Nexus.
I hope they step away from plastic casing. The Gnex feels like a toy compared to the One X.
Hey,
Who do you guys think will be the manufacturer for the next Nexus device. I'm reading reports that there will be multiple OEM's for the nexus and I for one don't want that to happen. One Cutting edge nexus device per year should be the norm, preferably made by Motorola or Samsung. I don't like the current Samsung Galaxy Nexus, even though I have one, the updates are taking ages and Verizon is putting the blame on Samsung. group messaging is non existent on Galaxy devices for the native messaging app. I heard LG 'might' be making it with a 1.5 Quad core processor with a 2 GB ram in it, and 13 MP camera. Let's hope that's true.

There are already many discussions about the next Nexus device going...
3500mah battery akin to motos maxx series

Clearly there will be 2 or 3 Nexus phones from different manufacturers. This lets Google have more than one design and since they are all about options and being open, it makes total sense. It also creates a little competition for manufacturers to put forth a better design. Keeping Samsung and just one phone again would just mean they would throw out some boring design again so it doesn't compete with the Galaxy S III. But now that will not be the case.
Not sure how vz is blaming Google for the slow updates at this point. The fact sprint is officially updated pretty much proves that vz is not allocating an acceptable amount of resources to jb.
I agree that 1 nexus a year as the sole benchmark device makes sense but in all honesty, with the whole Samsung suit and the way ICS really matured android I think we will start to see more and more aosp devices nexus and otherwise.

Not in the next year or so. Google made it clear they wouldn't prefer Motorola in the Nexus program. I think anybody besides Motorola is a better guess.

I wouldn't want more than one OEM. If only one OEM, Samsung, is taking this long to update the Galaxy Nexus, two or more Nexus phones are going to be a hassle for google to keep updating. I think they should let either Motorola work their magic with the humongous battery, or let HTC design a futuristic Nexus based on the One X. I absolutely love One X, too bad Verizon doesn't carry it.

What do you mean taking this long? The GN was updated to JB just weeks after JB was announced. Having more OEMs will not make the process longer. If you are talking about CDMA carriers, then that is an issue with Sprint and Verizon and will not make a difference whether there are one or three Nexus phones.

So you are saying they want to kill Android by picking Motorola and pissing off all the other Android manufacturers? It's not going to happen.

Lol how is it clear? No evidence at this point to support that idea.

It's been reported over and over for about the last 6 months. And corroborated by reports there will be 5-6 devices on Google Play near the end of the year.

Already 2 (3 technically, thought Nexus Q was pulled)
Yeah there's already the Prime and the N7...Nexus Q will be next so I think it'll be Samsung , Motorola and either LG/Sony...I don't think Google likes the non removable battery direction HTC is going in (yeah I know the RAZR is non removable too)....personally I'd love a Motorola Nexus, they have the best radios and best GPS signals! Nexus X would be cool

My two cents :
Sony or Asus but maybe Hello Moto.
