im on blazer 3.9 and want to go to 4.0. cant i just put it on sd and flash from cwm? i know to wipe and all that. im not that savvy when it comes to this but i do know how to flash in recovery. and will dark fire still work??
Phantom stated that it is a different framework. If you wish to run without problems it seems that you should listen to the programmers recommendations on installing and thrumming no matter what ROM. I have found 4.0 to work great personally. As far as themes it may work and if you make a back up you don't have much to lose. The change in the framework may induce errors though.

Put it on your sd, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash! You don't need to do a factory reset but you should wipe the cache to prevent system app crashes. You will have to flash Dark Fire again but I'm not sure if it would work.

thanx for the quick replies guys.... thats exactly the answer i was looking for. as for the other poster befor you,i do read instuctions... i said i dont understand some of the things and "terms" they use.. just need a lil extra help. thats all i wanted to know. can i flash in recovery... yes i can!!!
just a heads up tho,i am runnin the old dark fire theme on the new/old blazer 3.9 and its working...thanx yall
(should be in Q & A section but i'm not anal about that stuff =P) both posters are correct, however! I do recommend a full wipe when going from 3.9 to 4.0 for the simple fact that 4.0 has a new framework, and although it will flash ok, it may have fc's or may not run correctly. I recommend doing a full back then wiping all (data/cache/delvik) and flashing 4.0, then go back into recovery wipe cache/delvik again and go to (backup/restore) and advance restore data, and you should have everything back again. as for The theme, because it's a different framework, you can bet that there will be issues, they may be minor issues or major but you'll have to experiment with that yourself. Hope this helped. (ps. I'm drunk and didn't see when this was posted so if you already did something then ignore this =D)

I just rooted my phone yesterday and flashed warm z 2.2 rom and i want to flash a few of the add-ons. Do i just go into recovery and install from zip? Do i need to clear anything before i do this? this topic has been discussed before but im still unclear on exactly what i do. thanks.
You don't always need to wipe, but yeah, most stuff you flash in recovery. I usually wipe Cache and Dalvik before flashing anything, no matter what it is just to be safe. You shouldn't have to wipe anything other than that.
If you let me know the specific mods, I can double check for you.
Edit: Welcome! Excellent 1st ROM selection.
Yea im just trying to get the "recent apps in notification bar" and the "Hulu" add ons. thanks again for the help.
Yeah, you flash those, although I can't find the recent apps mod, I'm sure it is a flashable zip.
Also, someone the other day had trouble with the hulu zip. If you do, let me know and I can direct you to how to manually install Hulu.
ok im waiting on my battery to charge so i can flash the "recent apps in dropdown menu" add-on to my rom. Just to be 100% clear, i can just go into recovery and hit install from zip and choose the file? Is it best to clear the cache & dalvik cache before hand or does it matter? and if i do clear them will it erase any of my apps/files? Sorry, im really new to this stuff and im trying to learn as i go.

Its best to wipe the cache and dalvik before flashing anything in recovery. And it won't delete you apps, ect. Think of it like cleaning your internet cache on your browser. And yes, after the wipe, click install zip, and then choose zip. If you flash multiple things, wipe then flash again.
Ex: wipe cach/dalvik, flash thing one, go back, wipe cache/dalvik. flash thing 2, ect. Then reboot when done.
ok thanks a lot for the help.

Are you using CWM to flash? I'm new to this as well and I don't think I'll be able to wipe cache without doing a full wipe with it.

You can use CWM Recovery to Flash. Or there are several other Recoveries out there. Amon_Ra v2.3 , or SmelkusMod.
Want to flash add ons after flashing revolution os
I flashed my Samsung galaxy smj700f 2016 with revolution os and I wanted to flash bixby which is provided on a zip file of add one but it contains several other files which I don't want
How do I flash bixby only
I was wondering how to untheme your phone if you flashed a theme on it? Is nandroid backup the only way? OR if you want to flash another theme but you already flashed one on your ROM can you flash another one on top of it and it'll replace it?

+1 i would like to know also..
You can flash another theme right over it. Just make sure while in recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache (under advanced). You can even flash your rom right over it too.
This was posted quite a while ago in Themes/Apps. It contains stock SystemUI and Framework. Obviously if the theme you are running altered other things (dialer, phone, settings, etc.) then it'll just be a start.

Yeah I always thought the best way was to simply wipe cache/dalvik, then reflash the ROM.

I think that's the most straight forward method. Although I did notice something strange. I had the Midnight rom with the ICS theme. When I switched to Starburst, some of the ICS themed pieces remained. I wiped data, cache and dalvik, so I don't think that should be possible. On the EVO 4G CWM had problems wiping dalvik. Is there a way to confirm that it's actually been wiped?

I don't think there's a way to confirm it's been wiped -- but I've read in multiple threads that it's smart to wipe 3x each & to wipe system FIRST before cache & dalvik otherwise you'll run into issues.
You can tell if dalvik cache has been wiped by hiw long it takes to boot you after you wipe dalvik. If it wipes properly the phone will take a while to boot the first time.

I am not new to this, I have experience with rooting htc and samsung devices. I have also searched, and searched, and searched with no luck on this.
However, I am stumped on this phone. I am using ODIN to flash the S/U script, I can gain root, install CWM and install it. I can load a ROM but one of 2 things happen: when I boot it up I get stuck in a boot loop, or it won't even install in the recovery.
I have a few questions / statements:
WHY am I getting stuck in this boot loop?
I am wiping cache/dalvik before I install the new ROM.
I am installing the ROM on the SD card vs the internal memory, is that why?
I got stuck 3 times in the boot loop, and I have had to use ODIN to flash my phone back to stock to start over.
Thanks in advance for the help.
If you have searched, and searched, and searched you would have realized that this is not development related.
for someone who's been around then, you should first off know that this belongs in q&a, not development.
that being said, which recovery are you using? i don't think that's your problem but a little more info would be helpful. also, which rom are you trying to use? when you're wiping, try using this, it'll wipe everything necessary. you only mentioned wiping your cache's so maybe that's it? in any case, flash the file i linked, then your rom. check the md5 on it and make sure it's a match. after you reboot, let your phone sit for 10 minutes and hopefully all will be well.

If you look in the darkside rom thread, and some of the other rom threads, you will see three recommended wipes: darkside super, kernel and darkside cache. I would suggest you do all three.

Here is a big problem as well. You wipe cache and dalvik AFTER you flash the rom. I usually do it before as well but always after. That's like wiping before you **** and not cleaning up after

I am wiping cache/dalvik before and after.
I am using CWM from the market, so it should be the newest version.
Ill check out the darkside thread.
You really don't need to wipe dalvik cache after a fresh rom install, unless you didn't delete the data partition (wipe data). And you certainly don't need to do it before and after.
Wiping cache and dalvik cache is really only useful if you make changes to the system but don't want to format the data. This includes flashing themes, and other enhancements, because most of them are replacing system files. On your first boot the dalvik cache gets built. (This is why a lot of devs recommend letting it sit for a bit before using it, it's giving it time to build the cache.)
The reason they tell you to wipe dalvik cache is let's say you're installing a theme, and it replaces systemui.apk and framework-res.apk, located in the system partition. The dalvik cache is already built for these files, so in some cases if you don't wipe the cache you'll boot loop. When you wipe dalvik, you are letting it be rebuilt with the current files.
Also, while we're on the subject, another misconception I see alot of, you don't need to wipe the dalvik cache after you wipe data. Dalvik cache is located on the data partition, it's a folder there. If you wipe the data partition, you've already removed it. (Not to be confused with cache partition, which is used for different purposes. That is it's own partition.)
Hello, all,
Apologies if this is a noob-ish question, but I could really use some assistance here. After installing kennyglass123's People's ROM v3.1 without incident, upon reboot, I get stuck in the boot screen (in this case, the black and white spiral). Only solution--that I know of--is to restore from nandroid backup to get back to previous ROM.
Is there some sort of app conflict that I'm coming up against? I ask because I had previously, successfully installed it back in early Feb, and it worked great, and then after a reboot after some app updates, it got stuck.
Love the ROM...want to get it to work again!
Appreciate it,
For faster help, you should post this queation in the peoples rom thread.. For now if you want to try and fix it do this.. I wipe cache, delvik cache, factory reset, and system. Flash rom agin, wipe cache again, reboot.. Remember it can take a while for the system to fully boot..
Yes, as said above, make sure you are wiping EVERYTHING. The system can take long to boot as well depending on how large the OS you flashed is. Additionally, multiple wipes dont hurt either, especially if you are flashing a different android version (ICS to JB)
Make sure to always format system, clear data (might say factory restore), clear cache, and clear dalvik cache (rinse and repeat to be safer), then flash your rom of choice

As everyone above stated, make sure your doing a complete clean install. TPR uses Aroma Installer and make sure you make all the right selections, and choose a kernel during the whole process.

Been running TPR since the OG days.. As with flashing ANY rom, Do a Full data wipe, cache clear, dalvik clear (couple times if you prefer) make sure you select a kernel in the Aroma process. Should be back in business. Always can post in the TPR thread for most help available tho, The People are always ready and willing to help out where we can! Let us know if there is anything else that happens.
So i have flashed for awhile and never have encountered this problem. i was on lbj7 i went back to stock. did Ota upgrade to 4.1.2, rerooted flashed another rom and now all it does is forceclose. How do i clean the system completly so i can reflash a fresh clean install. I normally wipe Delvik+cache+ factory what else can i include to insure i have a 100% clean flash?. Any and all help is appreciated thanks!
Wipe internal storage will erase anything on the internal just as it states. What ROM are you trying to flash? Also what recovery do you have and is it up to date. If you want the ultimate clean install I do this, make sure the and if you need gasps or any other file is on the external card
Wipe data, cache, dalvick, system this removes the ROM, internal and maybe even format data. Flash ROM wipe cache and dalvick and if you need to gasps the wipe cache and dalvick the boot. But make sure your recovery is up to date, I use twrp which is on 2.4.4 right now. And you have the correct gasps if needed. Good luck.

To install TWRP the easiest way just download Goomanager from the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/...anager&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd open it go to settings and select Install OpenRecoveryScript, This will download and install TWRP's newest recovery. You could also check the md5sum to see if it's a good download. Sometimes the files that you download are corrupted but I have never had it happen, and I have flashed endless amounts of ROMs on different phones, but it happens people say. I am unfamiliar with that specific ROM but try searching in the thread for it to see if anyone else has had similar experiences and have a way to fix it. Searching is your friend, search and read a lot will ussually solve your problem, and if you don't turn up anything don't be afraid to ask a question instead of doing something that might be unsafe or worries you.
I did as u suggested and just tried re flashing using Twrp. Awaiting Results as first boot aproaches. Thanks again for the helping hand.
Just a heads up. Try and hit the thanks button on these forums if people help you in any way. I don't really care about it but it helps some people especially devs and what not.
