As we all know our little samsung galaxy y is great but the ringtones and notification sounds are really low in volume.
After missing too many calls and messages i decided to edit some .ogg files and increase there volume.
I increased steppin_up and pixie_dust cause those are the sounds i use but i can increase others on request.
You can put the files on your sd-card and in settings pick them and set them as ringtone and notification tone.
Developers can use them and put the files in system/media/audio/ringtones and /notifications.
Enjoy a hearable galaxy y
you can also use DSPManager its great

Copying the ringtones into the SD card folder enables the files to show up in the ringtones selection, they don't actually produce any sound. Seems like our phones don't like the .ogg file type, as my phone takes custom mp3 files just fine.

If you guys are viewing mediafire from your phone, use Google Chrome and switch to request desktop view and it will show.

Get foobar and Lame encoder - then drag the files into the foobar window and then right click on the files (select all), convert (to mp3), and walk through the prompts (you need to download LAME too - try free codecs dot com).

Just went through them and you might be dissapointed though - I've seen a lot better sounds on most custom roms...

Is this for the UI and if it isn't then how would I be able to install them on my phone? Thanks

hey
you have to extract the file on another route. Now you have to copy and move. for example if you are going to move ringtone move it to this route. /system/media/audio/ringtones. Notifications /system/media/audio/notifications. Alarms /system/media/audio/alarms. and ui is the same but do not quite understand yet that I have little in this. when finished reboot and then go to settings and you will see in the sounds. sorry I do not understand much English.

OK well I have the ringtones part done and I've copied and pasted the UI sounds in /system/media/audio/UI. Then I rebooted and didn't work. Did I do something wrong.

Is there any way to disable or atleast change the sound for the low battery notification? It's very effective at getting my attention but it's incredibly obnoxious. And seems to be so much louder than the rest of the phone.

Its in the system/media/audio/ui folder. TW_Low_Battery.ogg. You could rename another one of the sounds and replace or make a silent ogg file and replace.

here it is sir! if ur device is rooted u will do this step.
first download "Root Browser" on playstore.
second, download a mp3 converter to ur windows pc.
then edit the .mp3 file u have chosen to change ur low bat notif to "LowBattery.ogg"
then convert the mp3 file to .ogg file.
plug ur phone to pc and paste it in ur phones sdcard
then go to Root Browser the one u've downloaded earlier in it u should find this system/media/audio/ui folder/LowBattery.ogg
select LowBattery.ogg (the original file)move it where u can remember
then go to ur phone's sdcard (still on ur Root Browser) cut and paste the one u have converted at the system/media/audio/ui folder.
then thats it. voila
mine has Jarvis on iron man, saying "you are now running on emergency backup power sir" haha

just download that tone "jarvis_lowbat.mp3" at zedge
then follow the steps above man..thanks :good:
If you're looking for a good converter, VLC media player works very well for stuff like this. It's cross platform and it will play any file worth playing.
as i pasted the new *.ogg file, it says operation failed... what should i do now?? thanks.. ^_^

Make sure you have root level write permissions.
I converted the .mp3 to .ogg, deleted the original, then pasted the new renamed file to the correct folder, but I'm getting silence. Any ideas?

No, you'll still be able to play the audios from within whatsapp.
They won't appear in the music player, though. That's what you want.

I think that the notification and ringtone sounds that come with this phone are horrible. You can add your own, even if you are not rooted.
Place a folder structure on your sdcard (internal or external):
/sdcard/audio/notifications/
/sdcard/audio/ringtones/
in each of these folders you can add off or mp3 files. They will appear in the ringtone and notification sound chooser on the phone. I was able to extract some of the sounds from ROMs for my Evo that I was used to in the past and add them this way.

The S3 has a unified memory pool (16GB or 32GB) that is used for the ROM, Data storage and also appears as an SDCard. They all share the flash space that your phone has.
The "internal SdCard" will appear at the path /mnt/sdcard/ and appear to you apps as if you have a card installed. You also have an SD card slot on the phone. You can add a real card there and that will appear at the path /mnt/extSdCard/. You can add the media folder to either location and the phone will find the ringtones.
I installed a 32GB card in my phone. I then configured the camera to save photos to the external card to save the internal space for the data partition.
I just changed the annoying touch ui sound with that of the Nexus 5. Upon reboot I noticed something odd. The touch screen sound had changed but when touching the capacitive buttons the old "water drop" sound remained. Any ideas?
No one has any info on this? Would it be better suited for Themes & Apps section?

You have to change the S_HW_Touch.ogg to your desired sound. I just renamed the Effect_Tick.ogg to S_HW_Touch.ogg in a folder I created in the external SD card and wala, hardware buttons now make the tick noise.
Theres a thread about this in the AT&T theme and apps section.
I bought ultimate sound pro which lets you choose any sound you want for any system sound but I still prefer just using root explorer and doing this manually it's just more fun and educating imo.

Thank you and I apologize as I should have searched a little more. I should have just played back every OGG file until I found it. I also reset the permissions 644 but not sure if it was necessary
