I've used iPhone on my T-Mobile but I cannot live with 2g. So I sold it and bought a GN. Did I make a mistake on paying a week old GN for $520 shipped? Includes everything and no scratches.
Also what can I expect from this device?

That's a good price. They're $600 new.
You can expect a solid device. Read up in the forums before you go making new threads with questions. Its been out a few months, most questions have been answered at least once.

You are going to LOVE IT just like I do. I traded the same phone you did for a Gnex. I strongly suggest trying out CM9 and Franco, because they make the phone so buttery smooth. 520 is a great price, and if you like to tinker with your phones, you chose the right one.
Oh man I can't wait. My sensation 4g feels laggy when running ics. So Franco and cm9 is the best rom out for Gnex? What about rev HD?

The screen is really beautiful and 10/10 for texting, emails and browsing. used to hate texting but i just text for the sake of it, just loved it.
Note: What ever you decide to do to this beauty just make sure you read full instructions and some pages, then you wont run into any trouble. The more you read the less chance of runing into any trouble or unstable device.

Are you talking about him running the iPhone on T-Mo with 2G only?
Maybe he was aware of it, then decided it wasn't what he wanted... Where did he ever say he bought the iPhone w/o knowledge that he'd get EDGE only?

No, I meant buying the GN first and then asking XDA about "Also what can I expect from this device?". This struck me as a little weird.
When I have to dish out €500+ for a device, I tend to inform myself pretty well beforehand. ;-)

AFAIK, RevoHD isn't built from AOSP. I also believe it is still only 4.0.2. If I had to recommend a combo, i'd say AOKP/Franco.kernel.

I'm currently obsessed about Galaxy Nexus Cases. I currently located in Hong Kong so there are plenty of selections than US. I kind of regret buying a Galaxy Nexus instead of keeping my iPhone 4S (Sold all of them to mainland China). There are just way too many iPhone 4S cases than Galaxy Nexus. However, there are still some reputable brands and beautiful design for HSPA+ version such as SPG Case. It's the best I've seen so far. DO NOT BUY ALUMINUM cases as that is very hard to take off and blocks the NFC at the back of your phone.
http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/google.html
I currently have the follow cases:
- SGP Neo Hybrid Red and Silver
Cheaper but still elegant, does not cover buttons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5JgWcia8GQ
- Mercury Red and Yellow
Cheap ones:
- Dark transparent gel
- White transparent gel
I love changing cases every now and then!

The SGP Neo Hybrid is cool for a fully protective case. I myself have the Qubits snap-on case, similar to the Incipio Feather and Case-Mate Barely There. I love it, but it doesn't protect as much as most other cases.
the only reason i am using the nexus is for the 4g service. once apple release a 4g phone, im jumping ship. for 3 years now, i found not much of advantage over iphone.
I just started using Franco's kernel today and it seems the kernel that came with akop was overall better.

LTE Verizon Galaxy Nexus.... battery is bad
GSM Galaxy Nexus..... pretty good.
Probably most of the complainers are from LTE because 4G LTE is using a lot of their battery. 4.0.4 also addresses some of these problems with android os battery leaks.

The nexus has better screen size (4.65"), resolution (720p) and development.
The One S has better processor (dual-core s4) and custom hardware (image sense).
So it depends on what you want.
nexus vs one x i would understand. but why go one s unless you really want a smaller form factor.
honestly... i like most high end androids. but its always the nexus for me. stock android is the best... in my opinion at least.
id still take my galaxy nexus over the galaxy s3 or the one x. heck.. i never got tempted to replace my nexus one until the nexus s came out. but i finally jumped when the galaxy nexus got released.
if you like sense.. go for the one x. if you like smaller phones then go for the one s. go get the galaxy s3 if you can wait for that. but look at it this way... would you want the next iteration of android the soonest? if you wanna get jelly bean this year then there is no other choice but the galaxy nexus.

And I got to say I was surprised with sense (haven't used it since Evo 3D) and is not bad Camera is much better and screen well it depends on you the one s screen you can defimetely see pixels (specially after having the Gnex) but the look of the phone is nice (really nice and thin) and the gnex screen is beautiful (If you don't keep starting at white backgrounds ) is hard deduction I'm selling my Gnex to get money to buy a GSM version ho only cause of roms and that's what it comes too rom community on Gnex doesn't compare to htc one s and I don't think it ever will so yeah . Not being biased when I was mainly comparing it to my old sensation. Nexus aside. If I were going straight to tmobile for a phone I wouldn't see the advantage in getting the one s over the sensation. To me the sensation screen looks better feels better in your hand and the one s cones in silver/grey with panzy blue trim on it. It was snappy but not an improvement over previous HTC models. Just disappointed with the one series is all. Nothing but hype

No Gnex does not feel cheap it feel like a great device specially with the on screen nav buttons camera is not bad but ain't great and the One S I think it has a better camera overall specially woth moving shots(with tryig out with my 2 year old and pets ) . one s feels better after a while the unibody design and thin part makes it look good. I would be happy with etheir one but the best options for rooters is Galaxy nexus IMO for other might be the one s

I would choose the GN over the One S. Tue ability to stay contract free appeals to me. Also, the bigger screen with better resolution is a no-brainer to me. The One S feels nice in hand and high quality. The GN is no slouch either. While it is plastic, it feels nice and has good heft. Just my .02.

I would rather use both the phones and buy the one which I feel like buying.
I'm coming from an LG revolution on Verizon, ill admit it's plagued with issues. The main reason I liked it was locking in my unlimited 4g data, and it handles wifi tether somewhat well. Anyway
Seeing prices on an off contract Verizon GN ($200-300) makes me consider buying one outright to replace. Doesn't help my revolution has a crack in the glass (not screen). Are there any considerations I should make beyond what I find reading out of reviews and going by user experiences? I'm so far happy with all that I'm seeing, and the caveats aren't big for me, such as omitting Google wallet and it having a pentile display. Ill bet it's miles ahead of my revolution (plain LCD 800x480). I have the extended battery for my revolution and will most likely soon after buying a GN go for the same, but I want to also hear from the xda community. Thanks all in advance.

The phone is great. A few days with it and you'll wonder how you ever lived with a smaller screen.
The stock experience isn't bad, but unlocking the boot loader and rooting couldn't be easier so you'll be up and running with new Roms all the time.
I'm quite enjoying mine, but it is slick and has a tendency to want to slide out of your hand. Get a case and an extended battery.
It does get warm near the top when browsing the net but its a big deal. Anyway off to work I go, get the damn phone you'll have no regrets.

Thanks all for the support! Forgot just how free and open nexus devices are. Is there a particular extended battery and case go for? I noticed an off brand 3800mah with cover (same company also makes suitable cases) for $20, didn't look like a half bad company at least. I know batteries can be hit or miss. Also, does the (insert power control widget w/wifi tether button) trick still work for that? Atm I use wifi tether and by sheer luck it works in AP mode, vs adhoc, which I much prefer. Also any particular big pros to rooting besides jellybean? I only really rooted my revolution to remove bloat, extend battery and use wifi tether. Afaik with the nexus, there's no particular bloat being vanilla android, battery is more solid than my phone, and if that tether trick works then no root needed for that with what I'm reading.

DON'T BUY SKETCHY BATTERIES!!!
Buy only genuine Samsung extended battery or from a somewhat legit company, like Mugen power.
Sketchy batteries present a high risk of breaking your phone.

Hey fellas,
I finally made the switch again over to android.
I have been contemplating this for quite some time now and I just had to do it with the Nexus at $350 & I can not wait for it to arrive later this week. + i missed the xda community
I was a former Captivate owner then jumped over to the iphone 4s for a test and now I had to come back. Cant wait to start flashing roms (a little rusty since im sure things have changed in flashing techniques since I left) so a lot of reading to catch up on :good:
Never been a fan of touchwiz or any carrier implemented interface over android so this will be a great change having a pure google device for once.
Also what would be the best cheap case I should get ?????????
Just wanted to introduce myself on the Nexus forum and hope to be pretty active here
UPDATE: I ordered it on Saturday Oct 6th around 3pm ....anybody order it recently ? How long did it take for it to arrive because I haven't gotten any update as of yet??
Plus today being Columbus day I think there it wont be shipped out till tomorrow?
Welcome! This is my favorite stop for smartphone info...
The gnex has been my favorite android phone. The screen size paired with SwiftKey made for an easy transition from my droid 2's qwerty keyboard.
Your gsm version will get better battery life than sprint / verizon. I would suggest bugless beast with trinity kernel, screebl beta, extended battery, cpu spy, and better battery stats.
Good luck.

kinda like how Apple pays game developers not to release their games on Android, and keep it an iOS exclusive. (a sad tactic btw)

wouldn't doubt this.
seems like a lot of manufacturers like to feel the apples slapping against their taint...
Can't really compare the nexus 5 to an iPhone - the iPhone market is massive compared to the nexus 5

Although that may be true it doesn't make sense for a company a trusted case maker to completely skip out one of the biggest releases this year, I mean everyone 's been talking about it. I guess it possible though that they were paid. Hmm sucks.

I noted this last week in another post:

iPhones = sell 20 million devices (probably a lot more, actually) easily, and a metric frakton of Otterboxes.
Nexus = sell a rather paltry number, no big sales except right when it first becomes available, no long term ecosphere behind it even in spite of it being a solid device, etc.
I mean really, go to any store, anywhere - Best Buy, Fry's, MicroCenter, Sears, hell even a 7-11 - and you'll find stuff for the iPhones but you won't find diddly Jack Squat for anything else. It's sad that this is how the world operates but, that's how the world operates.

Nothing has really changed so far.
OtterBox has positioned themselves as a "premium smartphone case maker" and for their ridiculously overpriced products, they're exactly where they want to be.

What? How could they skip this wonderful device, yet makes a thousand different cases for the iPhone? Bought a defender for my s4 and it's great, luckily though spigen is making cases for the n5 so I guess it's not all bad.

Yeah, Spigen seems like the next best thing, but I'm seeing a lot of reviews on Amazon about misalignment over the power button. Spigen said they are aware of the issue and a fix is in the works, but it sounds like the "bad" ones are still in stock. Returns are a PITA.

Umm... there's nothing "big ass" or "brick" about the Commuter.

Well, I do. I love it (note 2) when my atv/ sxs group go riding for ~100 miles in a day. Yea it may not be water proof (but it sure helps with the water splashes) but the dust protection for the dirt roads and woods we ride, it offers GREAT protection. So, what may not work for you, works great for others.

They didn't do one for the Nexus 4. So not a huge surprise

I didn't know that. I'm moving to the N5 from a GNex and also had an OtterBox for the phone before that. I assumed the N4 got one, too. Does make sense now. Guess I'll go shopping for a Spigen...

Not surprised. Very disappointed.
Email them. Post it on their Facebook page. Tag them on G+. Let them know you want one people.

Seriously hoping they change their mind and release the commuter for n5.
Have it on my one x now and love it

I still can't believe they made an Otterbox for the HTC Vivid and not the Nexus 5. I know a bunch of people with the N5 and have not met a single person who also owned the HTC Vivid during my 2 years with the device.
I had a Commuter for my HTC One (2 actually) and I loved it. I'm using a Cruzerlite TPU case now and it is also really nice. (Not to mention $13 shipped). Sad that we really don't have quality options yet for this phone
I doubt the CS knows for sure. Just like CS at pretty much all companies. They usually don't know anything but what is on their trouble shooting flow chart in front of them.
