THIS MOD IS DISCONTINUED! AS I HAVE SOLD MY SGS2, I WON'T SUPPORT ANY NEW UPDATES!
IF SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE THE WORK, PLEASE MAKE A NEW THREAD! THANK YOU!
Hello,
Since ICS was launched and it's available for smartphones and tablets I was wondering if the ICS's Tablet UI would be available for smartphones.
This is the Tablet UI for Samsung Galaxy S2.

After you install this, your phone will become a 4.3" tablet.

Bugs:
Well, I can't tell anything about this mod's stability. It may give you Force Closes on some apps. However, I haven't encountered any problems until now except the fact that this will modify your screen density to 120 and the text is barely visible. You should find a bigger font or you can set the Huge font size from settings.
Please tell me if you found any other bugs.
Requirements:
You will need the latest CyanogenMod9 to install this.
How to install:
Put the zip on the sdcard and flash it using CWM.

All the credits go to AndroidON. I only modified some files to get this working on the Galaxy S2. Original thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483221
USE THE MOD AT YOUR OWN RISK!

This one is for CyanogenMod9 builds before 3rd March!
For builds after 3rd March use the attached zip (thanks Tyrany)!

Stock UI:
If you want to get back the stock UI, just change your phone's screen density to 240dpi. You can use an app to do this, I recommend LCD Density Modder.

Phone call working in tablet mode?
Yes, it works. The phone.apk & contacts.apk are included in the zip.
Here works too hehehe only experiencing a glitch when back to 240 and then 120 on the notification drawer the clock stays over the date

My phone didn't become an 4,3" tablet.
Thanks
Thanks for this one..
personally, I prefer the tablet UI to the phone one.
Everything seems to work really well. (except for minor graphical glitches)
i can make and recieve calls without any issues.
Been using it for three days now.
However like someone mentioned earlier the dates and the time on the notification bar overlap.
Any idea how to fix this?
maybe you could point me in the right direction or something?
Once again, many thanks for this brilliant mod.
Does this work with miui v4 which is cm9 base?

I don't know. I haven't tried it. You can flash it and see what happens. If there aren't any changes made to the stock CM9 launcher in Miui V4 it should work.

is it possible to use higher dpi and keep the tablet UI ???
I know that Tablet UI is supported with a maximum of 142dpi. However, using this mod, if you change to any other value higher than 120dpi it will come back to the Stock ICS UI. I don't really know why but I'm looking for a solution.
L.E.: Can't get this working on XXLPH as it's full of Samsung things that I need to edit and if I would do it, it would become more a Custom ROM than a Mod ^^.

Didn't know there was an update on the android central forum
not sure if it has to do with the music FC but if I try to select a ringtone it will FC , i can't take a screenshot of the FC popup. other wise this rom looks great!
Edit: also, the swipe to dismiss is not working, it will move to the side but either go back or it woll select the thing I'm trying to dismiss
Yeah, why is it now a Sprint optimus? there are actually LESS apps for this now! is there a way to change it back to optimus v or to a sprint phone with more apps?
The pic is what i got when I went to the market on my computer with the same account as my phone, but in the phone settings it does say its the virginmobile one?
i can't set a notification sound. When i goto System Settings > Sound > Notification Ringtone > then click android system to select the sound the phone reboots.
Looks sweet I gotta try it

How well does it run (speed and smoothness) compared to CM7.2 from the various sources posted here?
i really enjoyed this ROM. the only issue i had was that my 3G just randomly stopped working about 3 days after the ROM was installed. i tried toggling data, airplane mode, cdma, everything and it wouldn't work, so i flashed back to IHO.
i do miss it though.

from what ive seen, its ****ing FAST! I had it running for 3 days before I realized I didn't even overclock it yet! very smooth also, some bugs but worth it.
best part has to be the keyboard, I can type about 30% faster, it just works better
rom is super fast compared to iho. i can actually text and listen to music at the same time. Only bugs i've noticed is google music doesn't work, can't set a notification/ringtone sound and when you click on the updater another force close. Im giving it a couple more days tell i flash back to iho, hopefully the notification sound will get fixed so i can stick with this rom

If you use an app like zedge, you can set your ringtone and notifications sounds from within the app and it works just fine.
Has anybody been able to figure out how to be able to swipe a notification away without the pull down menu going away? Kinda annoying to have to pull it down again to swipe each notification.
Liking it alot overall though...fast compared to IHO CM7. Any chance some type of updater app can be implemented similar to the Backside Updater found on the CM7 build? that would be a great feature for this awsome ROM. Thanks for all the hard work
Has anyone else had problems with this rom randomly restarting and freezing?
I love this rom, but it keeps restarting. I installed the updated one.
Any interest in having this Rom ported over? I have no clue how to do it but would love to see it ported over as it is and or ported over with AOKP as the base.

Cool. Good to hear. The rom looks great and has everything I want in it except probably based on AOKP would make me happier.
The best part of the rom so far has to be this
20120504v0.4preview: Apps were too small? Problem solved!
First ever Android ROM with Per-App-Density feature, it once and for all solves the problem that was tablet mode. You never, ever have to deal with apps that are too small again since now you can decide how apps, systemapps, framework-elements and even widgets are scaled by defining their native dpi seperately from the system DPI. Its an experimental feature and for now these values are defined in your /system/build.prop - it has drawbacks (maily notifications can look a bit strange), but that will be fixed in time. Warning: Keyboards MUST run in system DPI!
A list of apps and predefined values is included, this should include most of what you need. everything else is blown up to 210 dpi per standard. if you still need apps to be bigger, get a build.prop editor from the market, edit and reboot.
Trebuchet fixes: Folder Name cut-off, landscape name cut-off, divider bars
Please set your Font to "Normal" in the System Settings, you won't need "Huge" anymore and all this does now is provoke overlapping.
Haven't really gotten into the tablet roms much but this one looks SICK!
I'd definitely rock this.
HyDra Rom looks pretty much the same except for some theming and the wallpaper maybe check it out
Yeah u gotta love that dpi per app feature and evidently it is being worked on for the galaxy s2, which I am guessing is the international variant. And I do like the hydra rom. Just not that Mega blue theme. Lol I'm sure I could apply a different theme but I'd prob end up breaking something but hopefully someone will port this to our device. Looks good

1. cyanogenmod or any stable aosp rom. aokp does not test their tab related code and you get a whole bunch of broken things that come with it, its not a good base for paranoidandroid. cm works out of the box.
2. a dev whos willing to port paranoidandroid and help us making the hybrid features better.

as far as i can tell its plain tablet mode. paranoid is hybrid mode. we do drop systemUI into tabmode, but do our best to not trash your device by doing so. you'll get stock look on most of your apps, can even decide if bigger or smaller.

th feature we're working on right now is called per-app-layout, you decide if your apps dress in mobile or tab dress, all without reboot:
we forked trebuchet from source and optimized it to run in that mode, its the best possible launcher for tablet mode
hacked a whole bunch of apps that normally crash on you or give you problems: market works 100%, keyboard doesnt stretch, gtalk doesnt stretch, etc. in short, this entire rom is made to support you in that mode because we know it gives you hell normally. in that its very different from tablet mode roms.
Yes the per app dpi is what makes it stand out than just a normal hybrid tablet ui mod. No need to deal with small fonts. No need to select large fonts. So this is not the same as Hydra as some seem to think.

Paranoid Android and ICSorcery are what my girl runs on her Verizon Ynez. They are simply beautiful works. I worry how they would work on the e4gt without kernel source, though.
I've ported this before everything worked except for the keyboard. I know that I'm cooking up something tonight with a fresh start. I'm pretty sure I can get the keyboard to work this time.

Its not miui. Its another OS the chinese have developed
So far my findings.
Very fast and fluid rom, really like it! Actually the video camera works on my phone its just a little laggy most likely an issue with the media_profiles.xml file.
This is pretty much MIUI with the benefit of android 2.3.7 as well as a drawer!!! I am going to use it for a while as my dd and see what else I find.
The camera is pretty nice, the photos are good, it appears the navigation buttons (home, menu etc) are too bright but this is likely part of the issue with the keys not lighting up.
Also the auto brightness is a bit dark, so I set it to manual brightness for now until this is fixed, also probably due to some smali files not being changed fully in framework.jar
Overall Awesome work, very happy there is a new rom out there now!
===EDIT===
I received a reboot after clocking over 1300mhz so I ended up installing the ILWT kernel and testing again, it appears to be smoother but might be too early to tell.
Also the link to install the google addons is not working can you please fix.

Yeah, sure you can flash anything in the world, but if it's not made for your phone, it might get bricked, and if it happens to work for some reason, of course it will be filled whit bugs.
I suggest everyone watches their language and attitude.
Consider this a warning
This is nice and smooth. Really like the way the app drawer works. Only major criticisms so far are a lack of Google calendar and no track pad wake. Calendar is easily sorted but wake would be useful.

if anyone can tell me how to fix any issues with this rom it would be greatly appreciated
Well, I haven't noticed many issues.
1. Physical button backlight is too bright, like someone else said earlier
2. Folders in the app drawer; the icons aren't aligned properly.
3. No trackpad wake, like others have said.
4. Battery life seems bad.
Will edit as I run into more problems. This is definitely a good rom. Just needs some minor fixes.

The file size is smaller maybe because I didn't include the whole gapps package in it. Anything that can be downloaded from Play Store are not included e.g. Gmail, Youtube, Google Now, etc.
The 30-step volume control gives more fine grain in adjusting you media/music volume. Originally there are 15 steps between mute and max volume, this mod increases the steps to 30.
I don't know how to fix the default lockscreen lag ATM. A workaround is to use the "Simple" lockscreen or any other ones from Themes app.
Ok thank you mate. The volume feature sounds very good because idont like the maximum sound in other miui ports. Its very low. So with this feature sound is ok in your rom i think? Also last question before i flash. Will you add weekly builds in fridays?

No. It doesn't increase maximum sound, it just increase the steps.

Most likely no, I only create ROMs when I have some free time :silly:
Ok thanks. Last request; can you add dsp manager from cm10 to the next version. If it is possible. Thanks.

+1 And if possible DPI options.
Sounds promising. I needed so much "volume rocker wake", I will give it a shot.
I hope you add more missing features from previous MIUI and some cool ones from other ROMs. Keep it going.
I installed this ROM. Now the screen display has become little blueish.. Even the white background looks dull and blueish. How to solve this?
Thanks
EDIT : The color issue solved after installing the latest Franco kernel.
Nice dude remember you back in the nexus s forums. Got a question, is volume wake included in the stock MIUI?

That's Trinity color... Try giving it a few days of usage and you may like it over any other kernels out there :silly:

saw this just the other day.. Thought it was interesting, Downloading now! Thanks
Indeed thank you for posting. Wanted to say not a full day yet but so far so good.
It's always nice to try something new out now and then. This ROM included VVM
which for a CM hybrid or any CM based ROM is a first for me. It works too!
USB OTG works somewhat. Plugged in one usb stick and said it was damaged.
Different phone with TW no issue with the same usb stick. Haven't tested MHL yet.
So far battery life has been above my expectation. Still need to reformat
my ext. SD and give a week and see how battery goes. Again thanks for posting :good:

Not booting for me. I have a "newer" S3. Am I screwed until the boot-fix is applied to this?

Are you able to get a logcat?
Does cm10.2 boot for you?

Ran this for the last few days. For the most part, it's been very nice but I have run into a few things. Mainly it seems when running certain games or when connected to my car via bluetooth for music playback it will just completely freeze. The audio will still play but the screen freezes and I cannot back, hit home or long press home to kill it. Because of how much I have to be in the car I am switching back to plain CM 10.2 for now but will be watching and testing this going forward. Thanks for the hard work and really excited for what this might end up as

Looks great I was hoping for a flashing weekend.
Not yet. Sorry. I did wipe and return to stock then flashed plain cm 10.1. I wiped again and reflashed this back over that and everything seems much better if not near perfect now though. It may have been something weird with coming back from a 4.3 ROM to 4.2.2(even though I always wipe and go from scratch.

This seems to be a problem I also have. Flashing stock, CM 10.1 and again Chameleon. Being a few days now,
has it seemed to help any or has the freezing come back? Curious because I would never have thought to do that.
Though I know rom's sometimes need to be flashed a certain way. Any feedback would be great.
Other than this issue I have been getting pretty good battery life. Call quality is good. Overall it's a pretty good rom.
