Hello crowd,
Well, I'm going to be mad, or it seems so.
Since a very long time (almost since I have a SE phone and an Internet connection), I've heard about Sony Ericsson Update Service.
Only one problem : I am not able to find it anywhere, even googling the forum does not help me.
I'm sure I'm missing a point there, because the last tutorial explaining how to flash the Arc is saying "You should have PC Companion AND Update Service installed"
I'd be really relieved if someone could help me grab that SEUS thingy.
Thanks
se stopped dev of seus.
they only use pc companion which you can install when you connect phone to computer.
try looking at se developers world site for link.
either that or google is your friend.
Sent from somewhere
Thank you, but I think google isn't my friend (I spent too much time looking for SEUS).
I don't really get it now. How am I supposed to do a backup of the ROM on my phone ?
Did you even search?
"How to backup firmware using Update Service"
You can still back it up using PC Companion.
The files are stored in a different location.
Do a search for "blob_fs".
It may be located here: C:/ProgramData/Sony Ericsson/SEMC OMSI Module/db/13740270/blob_fs
That aside, Update Service still works. Download: http://jp1.ca/androidstuff
It's detailed in the FIRST thread, stickied in the General forum:
Well, mister, I think you'll need to explain me how that video would help me if I don't have SEUS, because it's not explaining how to backup from PC Companion. (PS : this was "the last tutorial I saw" in my first post)
I don't intend to be disrespectful but you shall be respectful either, I'm looking around everywhere since 2 weeks and no one is explain how to backup from PC Companion

Where did you found that ? Certainly not in any Xperia Arc Sticky!
On the other hand, I'm really asking myself why I didn't searched for "blob_fs", that's too obvious...
You can tell me I'm lenient when I was, not when I wasn't.
Sur ce, bonne journée monsieur.
Wow look at that, google does work
http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/sony_ericsson/models/seus/7572.html
download and update to the latest version, though pretty pointless now as PC companion does the exact same job

If you bothered to go to the video's description, there are download links for all the programs.
Same for ALL the firmwares I post on this forum.

To my shame, I must admit I didn't looked into the video description... Maybe I'm getting out of touch but it didn't occurred to my mind one could have put useful info there.
Nonetheless, to my defense, I did googled "Sony Ericsson Update Service" (I'm not "that" out of touch), and tried to download via the website you hilighted... The only problem with it, is that when you try to download SEUS, it downloads you a 1.8MB crapware (I checked and didn't like the content of the zipped exe) and I prefer be seen as a noob/dumb by a handful of person rather than install myself any trojan that may be disguised into anything. I hope you won't mind too much this.
You can say I could have looked further on google, but I did and finally download a SEUS software that wasn't working (network error).

I followed directions on rooting my HTC Evo and now it is for sure rooted. I know because i successfully uploaded the new ROM RM6 which is great! My only problem is i have no idea how to add my old apps, contacts, or anything else back on the phone. I did do a back up and saved it on my computer before i did anything, so i know all my information is at least somewhere safe. So i guess my question is how do i get apps, my contacts, and is it possible to put the android market back on my phone? Thanks so much i appreciate all the help i can get!

Your contacts should be synced with your Google account. Once you restore your account you should get them back.
Also, I agree that there is no need to be rude. You posted in the wrong place and what's done is done, so for those of you playing thread police, I suggest if you're not going to help, then don't comment at all.

I can send you a self-written guide via Mail. The exampled ROM in it is Arconium, but it doesn't metter. Just swap in the end of guide Arconium with Jelly Sandwich and it'll be OK.

BTW, I've just released JS 3.3.

It's not being harsh, its letting them know this is xda, not Android Forums, and had they read anything when they first signed up like most other People who come here to be spoon fed we wouldn't have so many "explain it simpler" threads.
I learned from reading, practicing, reading practising, not by asking for information to be rehashed yet again.

It detects my phone in UnlockRoot basic version but when I upgraded it to pro, it doesn't even detect it anymore.
SuperOneClick fails as well because I get the "ADB Services: Not found" error every time. Also tried SRSRoot, Androot, and that program by Bin4ry and Poot. My computer/phone isn't detecting or doing something right.
I wasn't too sure where to post this, as my phone seems to be unbranded and I can't find the name.
This is what my phone looks like.
I'm completely clueless with this, as I've worked with it for 3 days with no avail of ever getting root permissions. Can someone please help me?!
I'm about to go crazy! I can't find anything! All I really wanted to do was remove bloatware and have a little more access.
Also when I try reboot and it's connected it says "MT6515 driver not found" could that be the reason?

I'm sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times, but I want to know what I'm getting into first as I am new to rooting.
I have a Sony Xperia Ion (LT28i) with Jelly Bean on it (4.1.2). I was simply wondering if the process outlined in this thread would work:

Once again, sorry for a repeat but I'm not exactly sure about what my firmware is etc.

yes that will work..go to settings>about phone> and you will find all the info abt ur software versions...u are basically looking for build number here..
Build Number is:
6.2.B.0.211
Therefore since it appears to be the most recent firmware, I can simply skip to the rooting portion of the guide correct?
Thanks, I've been hoping to get my phone rooted to get rid of all the bloatware.
You guys are awesome!
I have attempted to root the device to no avail. Does the firmware have to be flashed over? Or can I use the firmware currently on it. If it has to be flashed over, my phone does not appear to have drivers in the flash tool. Can I flash without installing a driver?

Sent from my Micromax A110 using xda app-developers app
It tells me to use the display system check but it just gets stuck hanging at a white screen on my phone and the program does not continue from there. If you could tell me the version of the root program and which option to use, I might be able to do it, but I've tried a few different versions of it with different options. Not exactly sure what I can do.
Edit: Do I have to flash my firmware before trying to root? It doesn't say anywhere that I have to, however could that be what's not allowing me to root?

This method doesnt work with your .211 fw. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&highlight=root+211+ion
I've tried that thread's root method. All I keep getting is a screen that it pauses at basically indefinitely, and none of the other root options work.

Ok, I tried to help, but it seems that you need to do some research about recovery and supersu and find out what is that you want to do after root.
In About phone only way to identify kernels version is it's build date. On screenshot attached you can see that build date is Oct 9th, it's 157 firmware.
Other way to check is just connect your phone to flashtool and it should show all firmware details. And third way is *#*#73784237#*# services menu.

There was article here but no way to find it between millions of others.
Good advice for beginners.
Don't scream "give me", "tell me"...
All those things were described thousand times.
Read. Read. Read. Learn.
You were angry because you lost whole day?
If you won't learn - tomorrow you will come with next question or - worse - bricked phone.
Having root and not knowing what it can do and how to manage it is like playing football using grenade as ball.
I've read some thousands posts before I even started fiddle with my device.
Reading took me a month. And I know Linux.
You know how it is. It is your money on risk. ...
Even advices given here not necessarily are always 100% correct or fit your situation.
You must be able to evaluate them.

WORD! This can not be stressed enough. although a month and a thousand posts seems a bit excessive to me. Any sane person should invest a few hours of searching, reading and learning before they start to fiddle around with their phone worth hundreds of dollars. Know what you are doing! Always remember: You can break your phone irreparably.
I remember the article you meant, it was on the XDA portal once. This clip also illustrates the point nicely. We've all seen it, but some might ned to take it to heart again...

I started read XDA forum two months BEFORE I even bought smartphone.
I wanted to know which one is good/reliable and which is troublemaker.
Then I bought 120$ device to play with.
After a year I bought Xperia Z1C which appeared on market exactly in the moment when I was looking for good powerful phone.
