I followed directions on rooting my HTC Evo and now it is for sure rooted. I know because i successfully uploaded the new ROM RM6 which is great! My only problem is i have no idea how to add my old apps, contacts, or anything else back on the phone. I did do a back up and saved it on my computer before i did anything, so i know all my information is at least somewhere safe. So i guess my question is how do i get apps, my contacts, and is it possible to put the android market back on my phone? Thanks so much i appreciate all the help i can get!

Unless you backed them up to the SD card using Titanium Backup or My Backup Pro.

Thanks for the help everyone, i understand there is a search that "i cant miss" however i am a "noob" so yes this actually seems to work easier for me (no need to be rude.) also i just downloaded my backup pro for future use. but i also am curious if there is a certain spot where my previous contact are when i backed up my phone while in the boot/recovery mode?

Your contacts should be synced with your Google account. Once you restore your account you should get them back.
Also, I agree that there is no need to be rude. You posted in the wrong place and what's done is done, so for those of you playing thread police, I suggest if you're not going to help, then don't comment at all.

I have no way of getting onto it, could you post any updates you find important? that would be great.
Like I said in another thread: "So from what I'm understanding is the new way to root the droid 2 is the same exploit that works for the evo and will work.
Here's the thread for the droid 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764950
So from what I understand is if you follow those instructions it should work."
Hopefully I can try this out tomorrow
i was able to get to the # prompt.... but am stuck there. i am unable to cp files... cp is not found. any ideas?
Excellent news!!!!
that gives you root access, but its not nand unlock so you cant access /system (from what i gather from IRC)
after the # the steps are completely different. at this point you have to mod some stuff and RUU to 2.1 and then root that the old fashion way, then flash a new 2.2 rom back on.
... the devs in IRC are getting kinda antsy when people keep bugging them lol. they're telling us noobs to just wait until a full guide/automated program is made.

So phone is rooted with CWM.. Got system update and went to install now and it rebooted,, It went into CWM and it sayd package failed, it will nto update.. any ideas? Help!!!
Thanks
Phone is Stock Rooted with CWM
You have to be on stock firmware(no root, busybox, or cwm/twrp) and have stock recovery, otherwise the install will fail.
Use the search button.
As a summary if you have a custom recovery, you can't install system updates.

Yes I get that, I found it odd that it still said there was an update avail, Other Phones never did that anymore once they were rooted....
SO if that is the case, Is there a way to stop it from updating so i do not get that message anymore?

Just accept the update and let it fail henever the notification comes up. Thats the only way to get rid of it, at least until it decides to pop up again.

The failure point was, as I said, the lack of an image to flash. He basically wiped everything and flashed nothing but a radio. No image = no boot.

because you used a toolkit, which does all the work for you..
Like he said, it is much more complicated to know what happened (yes!! We don't know too!!). Was it the toolkit? Was it because you're on windows or scripts often don't supply enough info on what went wrong, if any at all? Do you even know where does system.img comes from?
Start fresh by reading how Google tells you to flash a factory image. Then read the stickies, and not the toolkit one.

Well I went to stock 4.0.4 and still no luck. Also The phone freezes when I try to click any options.
So here's the deal. I rooted my D710BST (ICS 4.0.4, fl24) with framaroot. I had no custom recovery so i used mobile odin (i don't have a pc) to flash garwynn's custom kernel ( http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=119 ) so i can run agat's cr. Well now i have random power downs and gps failure. I have not been able to play ingress in over a week and its driving me nuts!!!
I just wanted to run this by more knowledgeable individuals. In theroy (until confirmed), since the kernel is a safe kernel, i can jump straight outta ICS. I am wanting to load ProjectX ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320041 ). It requires a clean flash. [q] Since mobile odin can flash from internal SD and i lack computer, can i not move all my pics, vids, personal files (etc...) to my external SD, remove it, then flash clean?
noob alert: everything i have ever done in the root world is in this post
5min between posts?!?!? I just wanna edit this one!!! grr
What gives? Do i need to put "[q]" in the title?
I drive a cab and kinda rely on my gps. I can manage, with just my map; but i miss my navi!
Can you put a custom recovery?

More stock stuff? Sheeesh, why am i rooting? This beautiful sounding ROM was developed by your team! Why the discouragement? And, as i said before, i do not have a computer. How come no one will just answer the question? I am a strong person and can take criticism, if that is what i needed. Is your projectX ROM not safe/ideal?!?!? Sorry man, Im just baffled you would discourage use of your own products. Am i missing something? Confused
Sorry for sounding stubborn but, i really wanna try that ROM. Im just saying, if i wanted to stay stock, i would have never researched my way to xda. All the op details were so i can be thorough. The actual question was about the internal (clean) flash. I mean, should i not try your ROM?
If you read the first post in the thread you would see the instructions on how to install... and the first step is upgrading to the official upgrade because this creates the Preload partition, it is a necessary step. Not discouraging you from using Project X at all, I am about to release an update soon. I just want you to be aware of the proper procedure so things don't go wrong. The first post in the Project X thread has all the steps you need along with links to all the files you need.
Oh my god! I am sooo sorry i read that the wrong way! I feel like anass now! My apologies.
Yeah, i read about the partition change from ICS. So, using your link to upgrade and fix partitions would make for a smooth projectX installation? Does that mean i don't have to clean flash, since Im not coming from ICS?

Thank you for all your help. This, in particular, helped me out the most. Without knowing what to expect, I got a bit worried when there was no boot after el29 kernel flash. Limited computer access kinda snailed the process. Once i was up, i had to do the "clear data" on play store and its framework, in order to download anything. I lost your custom store but, I'm running! I am really enjoying all the green! I love the Pandora lock screen and the starry boot animation and the....... I'm sure I'll find tons more, in due time!
