Not having a Mac in front of me, IIRC, the Mac automatically unzips the file when you download. In the browser settings you can tell it to do nothing when it finishes downloading a compressed file. Your problem is, once the file is unzipped, I don't think you can zip it again because the MD5 changes and the signature verification fails when you try to flash it.
Assuming you are using the Mac default Safari browser, under preferences > general, uncheck "Open safe files after downloading..."

Hi All,
I'm one of the unlucky ones stuck in the middle of the power struggle between the Chinese government and Google, and having my Gmail and Market rights rescinded (I only bought the damn phone yesterday!). Having scanned the forums here, it appears that one way in which I can log into the Gmail service and Market on my phone is to edit my hosts file. However, despite the fact my phone is rooted, and that I can pull, and edit, the hosts file, I CANNOT push it back onto the device. It just doesn't appear back in the folder, and after I have reset the device, the original, unedited hosts file makes an unwelcome reappearance. I've tried the adb stuff through Terminal on my Mac, editing it through Astro and through Estrongs File Manager, and it fails each time. I'm just stumped. I would love to get this sorted out if anyone else can help me?
Cheers!
Sorry, but bump!
Anyone out there help? In a similar boat?
me too!
I am having the same exact problem.
hxxp://hiapk.com/bbs/thread-278678-1-1.html
maybe this is a solution but I can't read chinese!
I could weep....
I can read Chinese, and have followed the instructions TO THE LETTER (it says to use Root Explorer, mount the file system as read/write, change the file, mount again to read only, and reboot). Every time I do, the hosts file just simply vanishes from the file list. I reboot the phone, connect to Wifi, and the damned original hosts file reappears again. Can anyone help??????
Try this one...
it just fixed my phone!

you go to install .zip from sd card, then choose .zip from sd card
Managed to find how (I'm using GOT OR)
Just put the file in update folder of Open Recovery, boot to GOT OR go find miscellaneous and find the update file there...run it.
and it gave "error (status 4)"

Tried manually replacing the host file using root explorer...doesn't work as well.

using WiFi without the host file is fine, everything work normal..but not through mobile network..
GFW huh...
Sometimes, when I download a zip file of an apk, my mac unzips it into a folder with all the internal files, not as one apk file.
This almost always happens when I download from mediafire. Sometimes from other sites as well.
Any way to get around this without running windows? Or to quickly repackage the folder into an apk?
It seems to do the same thing on my evo when I transfer the zip from my mac.
If I could open mediafire and other such sharing sites on my evo, I would, but they don't run correctly in my browser.
I appreciate the help.

Those site should work fine in your browser, may want to check into that. Anyways, don't open the file after you download. Just rename to a .apk file and you'll be good to go. Macs can screw up zip files like apks and update.zips, so definitely don't open it. Renaming always works for me. Then you can load it on your phone.
If your using Safari it will all ways do that unless you change your settings in preferences in Safari so it wont automatically open files. It is set by default to open any folder when you download hope that helps I have a Mac too

Thanks for the advice. I'll try all of that going forward.
Hello,
thats my first Post here and my English is not so good.
I downloaded the New Black Notes Hybrid but when i want to extract both files with winrar or 7zip it says Hybrid2.part1.rar
crc false at system.ext4.tar.Unexpected end of archive.
I downloaded the both files for a 2 times cause i thought it's about bed download.
What are you think?
I'm already running Kezra's Value Pack.Should i back to stock before i restore this with cwm5?
Thanks a lot.
With the two files you downloaded, put two of them into a new folder. Then open winrar and find the folder you put the two downloaded files into. Now just extract part1.rar and it will automatically extract part2 for you as well. Then copy the backup to your phone and use CWM to restore the backup
Just the same thing.
Hello snwman
it was my Kaspersky internet security.
He clear some data from rar archive.
i disabled him and downloaded again
no problem.
everything right.
thanks
Using Avast, i had the problem that in every custom rom i downloaded probably a root- or systemfile caused a virus-alert and the av software tried to manipulate the folder extracting the potentially infected file out of the zipped container.
Hi,maybe i have the same problem..I'm trying to install the black notes Rom second generation,I've download both 2 parts; and extract the first one in my sdcard with 7zip,but when i try to extract the second part the computer say: error damaged file.. Why?
Anyone know how i can do?

Hello,
disable first your internet security or antivirus program or whatever,
then download both files AGAIN and put into new folder.
then mark and unzip only the part1.rar it would be unzip both files.
then put into cwm/backup folder and restore after fullwipe.
let me know if does work.
hi,thanks now it works
Hey guys
I've gone through all the steps as instructed, but can't install HD RSL15 successfully. I downloaded the installation file from a mac which then automatically unzips the folder. Zipped it back up with 7zip and threw it on the phone. I went through all the prescribed steps using TWRP 2.6 and AndroidUnite's video on youtube (How To Install TWRP Recovery And Flash Custom ROM) as example. This is the 2nd time Ive downloaded the file and I switched over from CWM based on advice in these threads.
When it comes to installing the ROM the window ends up looking like this:
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Error flashing zip...
Updating partition files...
FAILED
Have I done something wrong during the previous steps (flashing, installing recovery) or does it have something to do with the method of zipping the files (tried fastest and store as compression options, doing store makes the file unreadable by the phone during recovery mode)?
I've read there is supposed to be an md5 file in the installation files, but mine didn't have any. Can someone let me know about the contents of the zip file so that I can zip it up as intended or something. Please help
PS. I know this is a copy of another reply i posted, but i cannot delete those and i haven't received any help in the other threads
I'm having a similar issue, only I run the checksum before I flash and the md5 is never the same. Has anyone fixed this?

KissyLynn, can u send me a screen shot of ur zip file's contents please
Don't let your Mac unzip the file. There is probably a problem when unzipping or rezipping. Just leave the file the way it is, don't unzip it.

Here is a screenshot of the contents, I really don't think it is going to work if you unzip and zip the file. You usually can't just rezip a rom file. The md5 will be different and it will give you an error. Not sure what you are using on your mac to download, but maybe try with chrome. The file should not automatically unzip, and if it does there should be a zip file intact still somewhere on your mac. You need to flash the original zip file.

Hey Stelv, i did a screen share and am busy copying what i hope is the original zip file (hyperdrive rsl15 universal s3.zip.download), but we'll have to see, files are still being copied over individually so not sure it's right. I don't see an md5 file in that main directory, where is it situated??
Md5 is achieved by opening terminal on your mac and typing Md5 and then a space and then drag and drop your zip file into terminal and hit enter. If it doesn't match the md5 number in the hyperdrive thread its not going to install correctly. There are also md5 checker apps on the market.

Local upgrade method.
https://www.oneplus.com/uk/support/softwareupgrade/details?code=PM1574161738631
It's a regular update, so no.
Is there any reason that I can just directly download the zip file to my phone, instead of PC and transfer to the phone, as in the instructions below?
Thank you
How to upgrade system?
Download the software build for your device on this page. Please back up your data before flashing your device.
Plug your phone into your computer and copy the downloaded .zip to your phone’s storage. If you’re using a Mac, you can install Android File Transfer Android File Transfer for this operation.
After the .zip file is copied to your phone, go to 'Settings' - 'system update', click the 'settings' icon on the top right corner, choose 'Local upgrade', find the .zip file and click on 'Install' to confirm.
The update takes about a minute (depending upon the file size), once done reboot your device to boot into the latest Oxygen OS.

You can download directly in your phone, and place it in root of sdcard.
Also be sure the file ends with a .zip extension.
So I downloaded it, it was a jar, so I extracted it and put it in the root of my sdcard. When I try to do local upgrade, it says, "Move installation file into root directory." I moved the jar file as well, and it does not detect it.

Rename .jar into .zip and copy it in the root.
Thanks for all of your help. Upgrade is done, easy peasy! :good:

I use it to notify me when an update is available and to handle the download. After that I switch to the system updater to perform the local upgrade.
