use the appropriate rom thread in development to submit reports; and you should probably be a little bit more specific about your issue when doing so, "i lost root" isn't so helpful.

Ok I know there's a lot of threads about rooting the DHD; and i already know that firmware 2.42 cannot be rooted yet.
However i am asking here if we can have temporary root!?
I mean let's say i want to sell the phone so i want to backup my applications' data (especially games with hours of play) so i can restore them on the new phone.
And of course in that case, we need root access!
So is there is a way to do so?!

You can backup your contacts and messages without rooting your phone. But if you want the same image there is only one option to root. I'm afraid there is no any thread here to downgrade the build number ya mentioned. If I were you still I'd try this method.
Who knows ya might find the way to sneak out Good luck
Hi guys I need your help! I know this should be in a Q&A but i didnt see one and I think it is better suited on here than general. I achieved root friday as others did and have been messing around with the phone since. I somehow managed to put a ROM from the S2 international on my phone and lost the backup of the original file. I know, I know it's been a long weekend so bare with me. Is there any way to get back to the way it was with full root access? Or is a new phone in the near future. Please feel free to facepalm I already have many times. Thanks for any info that could help me out.

GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.0.2.tar is what I used.
Firstly I've searched the FAQ's and browsed the associated threads n cant find a satisfactory answer, so I'm not just being lazy n opening a new thread, so now thats outta the way......
I'm trying to find a way of backing up my original rom/software to allow me to return to it after rooting and flashing a new rom if its not suitable.
I've found a few apps etc but most need rooted to use, I plan on titanium back up pro once rooted, but its the initial one before rooting i need help with.
Please dont say google, i have that, cocntacts etc all ok, I'm trying to save the rom/software to allow me to return to it if desired.
I'm S-off.
Anyone help please?

install a recovery, and make nandroid backup ?
OR run a root script, that can be found on index thread, then install app like titanium backup and make backup, BUT it will only backup your apps and its data, not the whole rom.... maybe a first option is better ...
Definitely just do the recovery and then nandroid backup. Then root
sent from my android powered tank using xda premium B-)
I agree with b02 on this...
The best thing to do is install ClockworkMod recovery and make nandroid backup.

Rooting-For new members here of XDA Galaxy Y Sub-Forums, Rooting is the Basic Mod we do on our Galaxy Y,Since we bought our Galaxy Y at Samsung stores so it comes with limitations to prevent messing up with your System-level files so the Root method is the answer so you will be the true master of your Galaxy Y.
Advantages &Disadvantages of Rooting
Advantages
-You're already the true master of your Galaxy Y.
-You can now use some Root apps from Play Store.
-You can modify now your Galaxy Y like Custom ROM's,Custom Boot Animations etc. that requires ROOT.
Disadvantages
-Your phone's warranty is already voided,It means that if you messed with your System files ,Then the phone manufacturer will reject your phone as it is rooted already,However you can UnRoot your phone if you have problems regarding the buttons etc.
-You can't use some of their Services that comes with your phone.
Just Google "How to Root Galaxy Y" then follow the directions so you can obtain now root access.
use search button and you will get information faster than waiting someone to answer. don't be lazy.
Ty for answer Sean De Jesus.. I heard for temporary root.. Is it exist? If I root phone, should I install custom rom or can only root? Would I got all settings like custom rom? What if something goes wrong? If they wont turn off or something..? I need more info..

Temporary Root will root your device but once you restarted or turned off your phone,Its gone. Its a good step for new phones to test if root is working fine on that device.
It depends on your mood or your knowledge about modding your Galaxy Y,If sonething goes wrong with your Custom ROM then flash back to your Stock ROM or if you have a backup called "Nandroid backup" you can restore it using Skin's CWM.
rooting is just made in order for you to be able to have admin privileges on your phone so that you can by-pass system restrictions
no need to worry, you can always unroot your phone
using the unroot.zip
ps: it's just piled down due to post like this, use the search button to find it
Pls search before posting..

My phone updated itself to 4.3 and now I get no sound at all. I cant play any kind of media nor make calls. It is currently unrooted and completely stock.. I obviously need my phone so Ive been trying to downgrade but I can't seem to root it. Tried flashing PhilzTouch via Odin with no luck..then I tried Kingoapp and I keep getting an unstable connection error..Its been a while since I rooted anything so I might be doing something wrong. Could someone please point me in the right direction as far as simply getting rooted or better yet a fix for this?
