I know, I know, I know...
I am a member of a few different forums for other things and there is always a neb that comes on and asks a question that has been beat to death.
I have heard that God kills a kitten ever time someone post a thread before doing a search on what you are trying to get answered. So for my sake, God's sake and that poor kitten sake, I did read through a lot of post before I had the sack to post this question
I am posting this question because there seems to be a lot of different answers to a lot of different questions, so, I was hoping for very direct answers to these questions that I know have been asked plenty of times...
Here it goes...
I have purchased the HTE EVO w/ android 2.2 and I have had it for about 2 weeks.
I want to root my phone, which is my first ever smart phone.
This is what I would like to happen...
1) I want to be able to have the restore point so that I can flash my phone back to stock so that if something happens the warranty will still be good.
* Does this save on my home pc or sdcard? Or Both?
I have read that you need to download here not there(ruu...clockworks/rom manager)...no here not there...If you download anything but this you will not be able to get it back to the stock setting and Sprint will know you have rooted the phone...The whole thing started to get a little confusing.
I am a very simple person so I am hoping for a very simple answer, if there is one.
1) How do I root my HTC EVO that has the android 2.2?
2) How do I make sure that I can have a recovery point incase I mess it up (brick, etc...)
3) How do I make sure that I can flash my phone back to the original settings just incase I have to send it in to be fixed for some reason, which rom manager lets me do this?
4) Is it legal to do this?
5) What might be the biggest no-no to do before, during and after you root your phone?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Visit the wiki, that should answer most of your answers.
1. Rooting voids warranty
2. Always perform a nand backup if you want to revert to your previous state.
Visit the wiki, the instructions are simple.
EDIT: Actually the wiki will answer all of your answers.

Sorry for the silly ? But what is the wiki?
It is a sticky in Android Development called Evo Wiki. You have to put effort in searching, I believe in you!

DO NOT RUN UNREVOKED OR YUO COULD PERMANENTLY CORRUPT YOUR PHONE!!!!! at the moment, there is no brainless way of doing it. you need to manually set up the adb and usb drivers, and then do some coding work, along with downloading like 1/3 gig of files.
Need some help or a link to instructions on rooting this phone, This is a T-mobile no contract phone, made by ZTE Phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.7 Since this phone is new on the market is their a similar phone I can look at as an example of how to root it?
Thanks in advance
..
Okay here is what I have tried so far, Superoneclick gets to step 7 waiting on device and hangs up. Have tried the Zurg rush tool, when it attempts to do an adb remount it fails with a msg operation not permitted. So I'm stuck now, so anyone with some ideas or insight please chime in, thanks
Just another update the UniversalAdroot apk does not work, anyone with any ideas?
Still looking for help, since this phone is relatively inexpensive, there is going to be a lot of them out there. And a lot of people looking to root them. Just hoping someone will give me assistance as this will also be solution for others as well.

Well at least your thread pulls up when running a Google search for rooting this phone. Did you try the CyanogenMod instructions for the ZTE Blade? Thats the only other suggestion I have since I don't own one yet.
Post back here if you have any luck. I might just get one as a spare.

Hi
So far, anyone found a way to root the ZTE V768 (Concord) ?
Anyway to upgrade to 3.0?
Thanks
Michel
I too would like to see this rooted. Then maybe I can delete some of those factory installed apps I would never use.
ZTE lists a way to manually upgrade the firmware for a Concord (V768) with a PC running Windows. Maybe it can be used somehow to root this device?
I can't post the link because I'm a new user, but just search for the Concord on the ZTE USA website.

, but this does not look like a OS upgrade, only a PC Driver update
I will try it and see if it affects the phone.
I have asked T-mobile to get the Concord unlocked, they couldn't but required an answer from ZTE directly...I should get something next week only!
So did anyone figure out how to get this phone unlocked?
BTW I'm surprised how little support there is for this phone considering it's the cheapest tmobile android option by far.
ROOTED!!
For those looking to root their ZTE Concord I have successfully rooted it using the ZTE Score option! Working on installing the Clockwork mod now and I think I'm going to tinker with the JellyBlast ROM for the Galaxy Y considering these phones are fairly similar
nvm on last post its installed su but did not install the binaries

Hi, I hate to ask so much of you people but it seems that rwiclo is down and I really need a rooted one click file. I really don't mind if it's ICS or JB, I just borked my phone up a wee bit and lost my ability to boot and go into recovery, so the only method I know of to fix it is to install a one click. So if someone would be so kind as to spare me one I would greatly appreciate it.

just make sure you get the full restore so you can start fresh, this will fix it and it will also complety reset the phone
As far as I'm aware that thread links to the Android Repository, and none of the download links are working. Someone about moving hosts so I guess I'm just going to have to wait :/
The repository is up and running.

Hello,
I recently got Galaxy S4, and interested in rooting the phone. I have jailbroke my iPhone 4S. It was time for me to upgrade to Android (worthit).
What if I mess up rooting the S4, would be hard to restore it or something?
I don't understand about the stock thingy.
Thank you. Hope you guys reply my thread.

While there is a slight... very slight chance the root process will mess up, as long as you can get into download mode the phone should be recoverable. Basically, rooting the S4 is easier than any jailbreak I've ever used... well, except for that one web exploit and carries about as much risk. Hope that explains a little and puts it into perspective.

Alright Thanks for the respond. If incase, I messed up with the root. How would I restore to stock firmware?
I quickly googled it, it has the stock firmware download, but it requires root. *i am confused with that*

Alright Thanks for helping me out. I successfully rooted my phone. It's all good now. I thanks you.
Hi.
I am very new to the world of rooting and all that stuff, in fact, I have never even attempted to root any of my phones. I currently own HTC One X (International version) which is running the newest Sense 5 Android 4.2.2. update. I tried to follow some youtube videos on how to root my One X but they are all a year old at least and are demonstrated on the stock version of Sense that was on my One X when I got it.. Now I know I am a huge noob at this but I would just like to ask if somebody can guide me trough or at least give me a link to some kind of guide/tutorial which will work on the newest update for my One X. I am very cautious because I don't want to harm my phone by doing something stupid or wrong. Anyways, hope somebody can spare a minute and help me out. And also thanks for taking the time to read my post!

So this works for Sense 5 update? Does it even matter which version I am running on my phone for rooting?

Things are starting to get a little bit more clear now. I managed to unlock the bootloader so far. Before I go any further, is there anything I should look out for, what could go wrong? I've read that if I mess something up I could brick my phone, how can I avoid that? Also, thanks a lot for helping me out!

after you unlocked the bootloader flash custom recovery. then do a nandroid backup. then flash supersu/superuser then do nandroid backup again. you now have 2 backups of stock rom and stock rom(rooted) and when you flash custom rom make a backup again. eat will eat up space in storage but its better be safe.
