Im trying to get the leaked ICS update on my A100...but I am having a problem
So far, I have the update on my SD card. I had it named update.zip, but then when I tried to boot with the volume up button, it went to the android with !. Then I saw another post and it said to change the name to just update and I did.....still the same Android with an exclamation.
What am I doing wrong?
Format your external SD card to fat 32, place the file update.zip ( remember if you have renamed the file yourself that .zip is the extension and the file should open with a program such as winrar or winzip ) on the card, insert the card into your Acer a100, hold the tablet in upright landscape mode ensuring the volume buttons are on the top left corner, turn rotation lock off, power on the device holding the leftmost volume button ( volume - ) you should see some small writing in the upper left corner of the screen, you can now release the volume key, this will begin the update process. The whole process takes approximately 5 min. Good luck and happy flashing.

I don't know what I did, but I put it back to .zip and It worked!
Not to be too much of a noob, but what is "flashing"?
Wow, if you don't know what flashing even is, you REALLY should mot be trying to flash this leaked ROM...

So for the past week or so ive been trying to root my incredible to no avail... ive used every method posted and none work..
The two cards i tried are the 2gb card that came with my droid incredible.. formatted Fat32 1024 byte size with nothing on the card, and it didnt work on ANY method.. so then i tried my transcend 8gb class 6 card that was previously formatted to Fat32 awile ago and had a bunch of stuff on it, and nothing worked with that one either..
So then i said screw this, i went out and bought the holy card that supposidly has a 100% success rate... the Kingston 4gb class 4 card.. put that bad boy in and it dosent work either! what the hell can i do... the Kingston is brand new.. nothing on it, formatted Fat32 1024 byte size
did you format it in the phone?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I formatted it via my PC.. Windows7 i used the format tool in My Computer... i didnt do quick format either i did the full format Fat32 1024 byte size
format it in your phone once and give it a few tries

is this done in recovery or Hboot or what?
while phone is fully booted. menu > settings > sdcard and phone storage
scroll down to the bottom

Just formatted the card via phone then went back into recovery and tried and no go.. ive tried it about 35 times now with this *100% successrate card* and gotten zero, also keep in mind that the design of this particular card makes it impossible to click in and out in rapid succession, it keeps getting stuck like the stock verison 2gb card does while my transcend 8gb has no problems clicking rapidly
my guess is you are doing something wrong or something is not set up right

I wish that was the case but i have no problem using ADB in any setting, the drivers are definately set up right as i can use ADB fine while in android and i can even get an adb reboot recovery out of it before the phones fully booted up normally as in binnys method
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8mheIkQ-1o
dunno if u saw that yet, thats the video i made the night they got root
i have a kingston 4gb class 4 and thats the method i did there
this method works 100% of the time for me too
yeah. been trying that method for an hour just as in the video and its been 0% for me lol
There is no sdcard that is going to make the method foolproof. You need to reduce your variables. Windows driver scheme can become a mess very, very quickly. I recommend booting your PC with a Linux LiveCD like Linux Mint 9 Isadora or Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. They're both free and both distros recognize the DI out of the box. I've attached the ./loop.sh that I've used successful to bring up the adb error you're looking for--just rename the file before you run it from linux terminal. Navigate your browser in linux and download the Linux Android SDK ho ~/Downloads, and once you do, extract it to ~/Downloads. Then, to be ultra-safe, use these commands:
Code:
*open terminal*
cd ~/Downloads/ # assuming you d/l'd my file/SDK file to your home Downloads folder in Linux
cd android-linux-sdk_86/tools
sudo ./android
# this will trigger the SDK installer, just tell it to fetch all packages, then close it
rename loop.sh.txt loop.sh
chmod a+x loop.sh
sudo ./loop.sh
# you'll get an infinite loop with "adb: device not found"
At that point, pop the back cover off your DI, power it down, connect the USB cable, boot into bootloader, eject the SDcard, making sure your terminal window is visible: select Recovery menu, then start counting from the boot vibrate. Count to seven seconds (as in: one-one-thousand, two-on-thousand ...), then insert the card exactly on 7 or when the white screen scanline flickers, whichever comes first.
Hint: I like to do this with the terminal window kinda small with a maximized "Computer" Nautilus file explorer window up in the background, showing all devices. You'll notice with this view that your android devices appear, in bootloader, disappear on recovery reboot, then reappear when recovery/black triangle screen is done loading. If you've missed the timing window and the card wasn't inserted right, you'll see those two volumes pop-up, but your adb shell error message won't have changed--and you know to pull the battery and start over. If the message does change when when the drives appear: success! You can "up vol-power" and continue with whatever rooting method you like, provided you know the slight (good) differences using linux introduces versus Windows.
Good luck, you only have to do this right once, then Unrevoked2 locks it in place!
Dude, it took me forever. In the end it was finding the right time to insert the SD card for me. I would start out with it in then right before I selected recovery I would pop it out and then I would push it back in as close to the same time as the 2nd "mount tone" as I could. I have only had success with class 6 cards but both an 8 gig and the infamous 2 gig PNDY card have worked for me. I also had a prob with getting the adb shell to work after a did the push payload witch turned out to be a bad download of the "tools folder". re-downloaded it with the phone still in recovery and it was smooth sailing from there.
Don't get discouraged and have a lot og free time when you start trying the next time.
Did you try downgrading? I had no much for a week then I downgraded ands got it on the very first try. Good luck

I tried for DAYS to get this to work... I searched every android forum on the net for tricks... I gave up... I got pissed and started again... gave up again... and finally like magic I found the right combination of bull**** trickery to make it work.
How I did it:
1. Turn off the phone normally
2. Remove sd card (I used the 2g card that Verizon sent)
3 Boot up into recovery with the Vol- /Power button method (sd card out)
4. Let the phone do it's thing
5. Run loop.bat
6. The trick here- When you press the power button to select recovery have the sd ready to go in (sitting in the slot but not clicked into mounted position)... then when you hear the second usb "ding" push it in as fast as you can- almost simultaneously with the "ding".
This got me into the error message in about two tries (after possibly hundreds of failed attempts using other methods)- after that it's pretty much downhill.
No guarantees, but it worked for me and quite a few other frustrated souls.
Keep the faith- root is definitely worth the headache
Edit: Disregard. I didn't see that rynosaur had already posted detailed steps above.
Windows needs to see the device as too many different things during the different stages (i.e. HBOOT, Recovery, Fully booted). I did it under Linux and didn't have to worry about that. If you have a Linux partition or a Linux Live Distro, try it there. The commands are basically the same except you need to preceed the adb commands with ./ as in ./adb reboot recovery

the sdcard usb ding timing is key
So heres what happened, my first Kingston 4gig card didnt work after like 40 tries, so i said screw this and returned it, and then i went somewere else and picked up a second 4gb kingston
Went home, put it in my phone, rebooted recovery and got it to work instantly... got the recovery flashed... removed cityid.. pushed the update.zip and su and superuser all on my phone
however my phone would NOT chmod no matter what i did.. i tried everything, i copied and pasted the directions exactly as on the screen and it would never work, when i got to the last line that starts of 1n - or something like that it would say permission denied even though i was in su...
So anyway i said maybe it had worked, so i rebooted the phone.. i saw that superuser.apk was in my app drawer as an installed app.. then i went into terminal emulator and typed in "su" and it said permission denied.. the root didnt stick because the stupid Chmod did not work for me...
Oh and to top it off guess what else happens? Obviously when i try to go back into recovery it DOES NOT work... tried it about 35 times again now and it wont go back in whatsoever after doing it the first time.. also for me in recovery my second usb ding happens MANY seconds into the black screen.. if you start counting right when you press the power button for recovery and the white screen turns to black at like 5 seconds.. my second usb ding dosent happen until like 10 seconds... deep in the black screen

What's the difference now? Look at the root directory of the card. There's files there now. You need to re-format the card. The most effective formatting I (and others) have found is a split 2gig ext4 partition (linux fs), followed by a fat32 @ 1024k block allocation, long format. As soon as Android boots, it starts writing your card.

How can i format it like that using windows? The easy format tool you find when right clicking on the drive under my computer dosent have those functions
I used Unrevoked to root my Incredible with no problems. When I copied some other ROMs to test, the phone wouldn't give me any options. It ran thru the following error message (in high speed...had to take a pic):

Upon investigating this I think I realized my problem, but don't know how to resolve it: I pulled the stock SD Card from my new Incredible and dropped in my "used" Eris card (rooted, too). Now I have two sets of directories on the card; one from my old Eris and the new Incredible one. I'm guessing this is confusing the OS. Here's what I've tried:
* deleting the old Eris directories, but to no avail
* when going into Recovery, I have the SLCD problem with the screen not reading right, but since I can't get the phone to recognize another ROM, I can't address that problem
I'm thinking of reformatting the card, but worry that once I do that, how will the phone be able to even boot when it's looking for a ROM?
***UPDATE*** being impatient, a risk-taker and a man of adventure, I have now done myself in, I'm afraid. I went ahead and reformatted the SD card and to my surprise, when I restarted, it found the PB31IMG.zip and updated it. After it completed, it asked if I want to reboot, I selected "Yes" and now it won't boot at all. When I hold the power button it vibrates once and that's it. After that, nothing works. When I do a battery pull and hold power button again, it vibrates once and...nothing more.
Next steps or suggestions from those much smarter than I am?
Can you get into HBOOT, at least? Completely power down, then hold the volume down button while powering up. Also, reformat your SD card to FAT32. Look around the forum for the SLCD recovery.

Why were you trying to flash a new PB31IMG.zip? To flash a new ROM, you should have booted into recovery and selected "install zip from sd card," navigated to wherever the zip (such as SkyRaider_33_Sense_Final.zip) is located and installed from there.
BTW... those are not error messages. The phone will search for those files whenever you boot into the bootloader. After it cycles through them, you have the option of selecting recovery.
The memory card shouldn't have mattered. I used my Eris card on mine with no problems.

first do a search here on xda for clockworkmod on crack...that file has a fix for your slcd in recovery.download that first and rename it to pb31img.zip put it right on the sdcard not in any folder. now download a rom from one of the forums to a computer, any rom for dinc, put your sdcard into the pc. put the rom u DL on the sd somewhere youll remember. unmount the card put it in your phone, hold vol down and power this takes you to the bootloader. now it will automatically search for pb31img.zip, click yes let it update.normally you click no but this is an exception, now press vol down to select recovery. takes you to recovery, goto install zip from sdcard, choose file on sscard, now goto that rom I said to remember. click yes, should be good to go

the problem i am running into with this is that the screen won't turn on at all. like the OP said, i get a single vibrate and thats it, the screen doesn't turn on. if it did, would be an easy-peasy fix. but since the screen won't turn on, i seem to have run out of options. took it into best buy and they just told me the battery was dead. its been charging for a few hours but to no avail.
ive been trying to help 3 diff ppl wit this problem, if its just doing the vibrate its cuz ur just trying to pwr it on, thats NOT what were trying to do. its easy do exactly what I type
1, take batt out, put it back in
2, hold vol dwn, dont let go, now hold pwr dwn til a white screen comes up, takes a few seconds
3, now if this doesnt work, its b/cu have an slcd and u didnt install correct drivers b4 rooting, and I cant help u nemore after that

Okay, So I bought a new microSD card today (just a bigger one). Copied all data off old one to PC. Put the new one into the phone hoping to just have it show up like always when connected to the PC and then copy the files back over. But when I put in the new MicroSD card it said it needed to be formatted (on the phone) and I tried to but everything just kept FC. Since I didn't have any other option for accessing the microSD other than my phone. I decided for now to put back in my old card and re copy the files while in the phone.
During copying the phone restarted and has since been stuck on the HTC incredible screen. I eventually pulled the battery and am stuck there.
Was using a MIUI rom.

I have only run MIUI rom for about 2 hours, so I can't give you specifics on how or why this happened. I can only tell you what I would do to fix this problem. Since you were able to install MIUI rom I would say that you have install clockworkmod recovery.
1. Pull the battery to get it to turn off and then boot into recovery, hold volume down and then press power to start the phone in recovery.
2. Now you will be at a menu with three android figures on skateboards at the bottom of the screen, now use the volume down key move down to “RECOVERY” and then press the power button to to select it.
3. Now you should be in the clockworksmod recovery, press volume up to move to “mounts and storage” and then press the track point to select it.
4. Now that you have this menu open make sure your USB cable is plugged into the computer, now press the volume up to move to “mount USB storage” and press the track point to select it. Your SD card should now be mounted on your computer for you to transfer all of your files back to your card.
5. At this point if you don’t have a known stable backup that was created by clockworks, I would go and download an almost stock rom such as Virtuous 3.2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765447 and transfer it to your card. When it is done transferring press the track point to select “Unmount.”
6. Now you should be at the “Mount and unmount partitions” screen, press the power button to get you back first menu of clockworkmod recovery.
7. If you have a working backup on your SD card that you want to flash, then press the volume up key to select “backup and restore” and select it with the track point. Now just press volume down to select “Restore,” now just press the volume down key to move down and select the image that you would like to restore.
8. If you downloaded Virt. 3.2, then just press the volume down to select “wipe data/factory reset” and then after that is down press volume down and select “wipe cache partition, “ and then volume down to select “install zip from SD card.” At the “Apply update from .zip file on SD card” menu volume down and select “choose zip from SD card,” use the volume down to scroll down and select the Virt. 3.2 zip that you downloaded earlier. Let it go through with installing the zip and then select “ reboot system now.”
9. At this point you should be back up and running with a clean phone, you just need to restore all of your data with whatever backup program you were using, or you need to download and reinstall everything.
If you would like to try your new SD card again, and still have a copy of all of the files on your computer, you need to turn off the phone and install the new SD card.
10. Now just hold down the volume down key and press power, use volume down to scroll to recovery and press the power key.
11. Now in recovery press volume up to scroll to “Mounts and storage” and select it with the track point.
12. Now press volume up and scroll to “format sdcard” and select it with the track point.
13. When it is done get back to the “Mount and unmount partitions” screen and press volume up to select “mount USB storage,” and transfer all files back to your new SD card.
14. When you are done unmount and press the power key to get back to the main “Clockworkmod recovery” screen and select “reboot system now” with the track point.
15. You should now have your new SD card on a working system, and the rest is up to you on what you want to do from there.
If you don’t have the SD card files on your computer then follow 1 – 4 with your old card in place, and the follow that with 12 – 15 after you change your card.
I hope you can follow this and get a working phone, just report back if you have problems or if this helped you.
Thanks bro - phone is back up and running re flashing MIUI now with new SD card
thanks for typing all of that up!
I was originally browsing around on my phone via XDA App and came across this thread. I do not require any of the information found here, as I am quite proficient with the workings of the Incredible pertaining to ROMs, but I saw the immensely thorough reply by GMPOWER to help the OP in a quick and timely fashion. I just had to get on my laptop to come hit the thanks button and say great job here! This helps encourage people to ask questions about problems in the General sub-forum instead of going into Development! If only more people frequented General to give such great help as often, there wouldn't be so much clutter in Development with posts that say "I know this doesn't belong here, but I figured I would get a quicker reply here..."

Are you holding the left volume button down while pressing the power button and not letting the volume button go after it powers on?
Kinda need a lil more info, like is it saying spin forever, or does I show an android with an exclamation point, or is it just booting up as normal? The more info you give about the problem the better someone will be able to help you. I'd describe the exact steps you used along with what it did / didn't do after your tab booted...
Okay here is more of the detailed problem:
1. I downloaded the new ics update
2. Placed it on external sd
3. Renamed it from "iforgotthename" to "update"
4. Placed it on my tablet
5. Turned off my tablet
6. Turned on the tablet while:
- Holding the power button
- Holding the volume(up) button
7. Nothing happens boots as normal....
The #7 is my problem...
Problem solved!! thanks i kept on pressing the right volume button instead of the left silly me~
thanks alot guys!
I've tried to search around the fourms but every seems to have rooted their phone. I never have, but it's been acting laggy and shutting itself off from time to time, I've had my Incredible for about a year and a half and just wanted to wipe it in hopes that it wouldnt shut off randomly and run faster but when i go into settings and into SD & Phone storage and do Factory data reset I end up getting stuck on a screen with a phone and a red triangle with an exclamation in the middle.
When that happens I can hold down the power button and the up volume button and try and restore from there but it always just loads my phone back up how it was, nothing gets wiped and it also puts it into auto roaming so I have to call and reprogram my phone with verizon.
Any ideas?

It sounds like either you have a custom recovery installed (rooted), or your stock recovery may be corrupt. First i would try to do a factory reset from hboot. To do that power off the phone pull the battery and reimsert. Then hold vol down and power till a white screen pops up. Then use the vol keys to navigate to factory reset and the power button to select. If that dosent work i would do an ruu. To do that download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip and place it on your sdcard in no folders, do not rename. Pull battery, replace, vol down and pwr to enter hboot. Hboot will automaticly find the file and prompt you to press vol up to update. Do so and then when propmted again press vol up to reboot. Once rebooted your phone should be like new.
Tried it in hboot and it seems to of only wiped half my stuff. Apps and everything are still there but it's almost as if they reset and are taking me through tutorials again and all my setting are back to default.
I'm downloading the ZIP file ya gave me now, i'll let ya know if that works. Thanks for your help!
Okay, took my SD card out of my phone to make sure i placed that file on it and not somewhere else, i did NOT unzip the file onto the SD card either, just simply copied and pasted the ZIP file onto the SD card, it's not in a folder either. Put the Sd card back in, turned phone off and entered hboot, hboot isn't prompting me to update though... any ideas? :\

Try backing up the sdcard to your pc. Then with the pc format the card fat32, and then put the files back on. If that still dosent work, you could do an ruu.exe with your pc. Install htc sync http://dinc.does-it.net/HTC-Sync/3.0.5606/setup_3.0.5606.exe, then download and run this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Image...0_Incredible_C_hboot_1.02.0000_4.08.605.2.exe, with the phone connected to the pc. Follow the steps provided and it should reflash the phone for you.
Okay I tried to do your second suggestion first but when i ran the program it said that the phone was not connected to my computer, and to check to make sure the USB was plugged in. It was though, it was in charge only, should i have set it on something else? I was literally watching it charge.
Then i reformatted my SD card, it did find the file and it tried to update with the file in hboot but it said it had failed because the version on my phone was older.
What a pain huh?

Having htc sync installed should give you the correct drivers. I think its suppose to be charge only mode, try it on sync mabey, worst it can do is say it cant find the phone again.
It probably said the version you were trying to install is older than the one already installed. What android version are you on again?

says im using version 2.3.4
just tried the ruu again and put my phone in sync instead of charge only and htc sync and the ruu still say my phone isnt connected but my phone tells me it is.
The main reason I'm trying to factory restore is because none of my apps hold. I try and download new ones and they end up force closing and disappearing. Apps that I update do the same thing. My phone will keeps apps i've had if they update and disappear but they go right back to needing to be updated again. New apps just go away and if i try and redownload them they just disappear again.
