Which ROM is the best ROM for the Evo4G? The most famous ROMs that I always read about is Cyanogen and MIUI?
which has a better battery life?
I'm using cm7 and thimat kernal not bad so far

Try them both...

In my experience MIUI and CM are on similar footing when it comes to battery; it could go either way since they are both pretty similar (MIUI is based off of CM).

If you like Sense, I recommend the MikG 2.45 rom. You can then experiment with the new Freedom kernels (currently at version 0.8, with varying versions (stock, less, more, aggressive) which have different degrees of undervolting built in for improved battery life.
I went ahead and tried CM7 on the EVO 4G and it works flawlessly.
I'm sure I can save more battery life if I use SetCpu profiles? Is it o.k. to use setCPU profiles with the kernel that comes with CM7? Or is there a better kernel to use?
Also, i prefer SetCPU profiles because I can use the screen-off profile to underclock and save battery when my phone is not in use.
Miui is not based off of cyanogenmod. Miui is better anyway. IMO that is.

I love sense 3.0 Roms and you should definitely try one of kings Roms and any other out there. Anyways, if you like aosp then you should def try decks. Great on battery and works flawlessly. His Rom also has the cyanogen settings to overclock and go into detail with your phone

I have to say Decks ROM is the best I've used. Its very stable and smooth as silk. Using the SavagedZen with BFS Kernel got me excellent battery life...
So far its out of Kinged kingdom or Kings Alliance. My kid sat on my phone and played gun bros for about 4 hours yesterday around midday 10ish - 2 o'clock and the battery still had a little juice left(had not been charged since like 7am). Alliance is a little better to me only cuz it has the hacked hotspot(no error 67).
The Baked Snack ROMs are renowned for battery life.

Been rocking sense lately but nothing beats decks + savagedzen + vipermod + supercharger v6 for battery life and performance.
Edit: ......in my opinion
could you tell me where you download these from?
including the SavagedZen with BFS Kernel ?
thank you

Miui syncs up with the cyanogenmod tree quite frequently actually. While its not based off of cm their vendor trees are.

So I have a quick question for people running cm7. I am running cm7 with aveon 6 kernal. I was just wondering what over clock speeds do you guys use?

Dl no frills CPU and test for yoursef, each phone runs defferently and with no frills u can set as boot but if it is not a proper shutdown it will not set just in case it was due to the oc/ UV. Hope this helps and I run 1.5 ghz
Tap'n on miui incredible 2
Plus one on NoFrills. I'm using Aeroevans .7bfs kernel set at 1.2ghz and using the Sio I/O on nightly 133. This works well for me. Good balance of speed and battery life.

OCing over 1.2 is useless unless you want battery to die fast
Running tiamat 1ghz gives me 30hrs on moderate
1.2 about lil more than a day
Tiamat is supposedly come out with new kernel this weekend or next.

With cm7 I actually like to underclock to around 800 with interactiveX. I have hit 1.9 stable using the smooth ass governor, and when I want to over clock I usually go for 1.2 or 1.4

I'm having major battery drain with the latest CM7 stable release. I've lost 25% in standby in about 90 minutes....my phone was charged while off to 100% last night, and when I turned it on I left it alone....didn't even turn the screen on. when I came back an hour later it was at 78%
Can someone please recommend a good battery saving kernel, please....I'm pulling my hair out finding one. For such a popular phone the choices seems really sparse

I agree with this kernel. I use SBC as well, it will stop the 10% drop in battery whenever you unplug it.
Thanks for all the wonderful responses, everyone!! I'm giving mason a shot first, since it seems so popular
I'm trying Mason G - v0.14 sbc uc'd to 729mhz, powersave gov....but I can't find any options to uv/ov. Does set cpu not work properly with this kernel? What app/script should I be using?
for undervolt if it is sysfs HAVS enabled you need to get vipermod. If it just says undervolt then it may have a pre-set undervolt determined by the dev.

On GB is was running this same setup and my battery life was nothing short of amazing. I had a good 15-24 hours depending on use.
best cm7 kernel?
i just recently started using mason. its pretty awesome. before that i used tiamat sbc also no problems. just try which ever ones you think you may like every couple days to see which one works best for you. i also give the kernel about 10 minutes to bake in every time before i unlock it. i dont know if thats been proven to help but it cant hurt and seems to work well for me.
I've been running mason sbc for about a week now. I had to use a combination of vipermod and smurfed out scripts to get the kernel set where I wanted it. I noticed the kernel was set for BFS by default, which I've never been a big fan of, due to its power consumption....so smurfed out let me set the scheduler to CFS, which is much more conservative and doesn't sacrifice any i/o speed, imho. Then I used vipermod to uv -25MHz so it wasn't such a battery-hog. Underclocked, undervolted, and set to CFS seems to be my winning combo!!! I get no less than 3 hours of constant screen time (streaming video, browsing the web, etc.) and enough standby to last me all day so I don't have to carry my charger with me anymore.
With every other android I've ever owned, setcpu does everything I've mentioned changing in this post...so when it wasn't working, I had no idea what to do.
Thanks so much guys!!! I couldn't have done it without all your help....HTC is in a world all its own in the android scene since they use so many different things that no other manufacturers do. It made me want to pull my hair out until you guys came along to help me out
How much can you overclock HTC Desire HD without damaging the hardware?
And how much do you have your Desire HD overclocked right now?
Sent from my mind.
I'm running the HTC Inspire, which is just the DHD +4g radio, keep that in mind though. It shouldn't affect CPU speeds, but who knows.
I've overclocked to 2.1ghz, but the most you'll ever need is 1.5. Past that you get stability issues and no speed increase, at all. It might even slow you down because of random glitches. Oh, and it gets really, really hot.
I usually stay around 1.2 ghz if I expect heavy usage (gaming, HD video), 700mhz for normal usage (web browsing, ebook reading, music)
I dunno about a safe zone, I've heard 1.5ghz and 1.6ghz, but nothing to back either up.
Thank you for your answer
And anyone else?
Sent from my mind.
Constantly on 1.25, I get glitches if I go higher, have to increase voltage in that case, works great for me this way though...
Depends on the rom. I'm using cm7.2 stable at 1.5 ghz and it's fast with no freezes or crashes
Sent from my laser emitting mammary glands.
It also depends on the hardware. Not all devices can OC to the same amount even if on the same set up

1.3 on interactive governor is my usual. Works flawlessly
As Zelendel points out there is no "safe" overclock, anything over 1ghz is outside the manufacturers stated performance and therefore at your own risk.
Yes I know there is a risk, but I know there is a point where the device starts to lag or glitch. Like more than 1.5 GHz

You'd have to test your own hardware, I know of people who can run 2ghz all day and others who struggle with anything over 1.2ghz. Even if you'll run stable at xghz it doesn't guarantee that it's not over stressing your device.

Is there anyway to see if your current overclock is stressing your device?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
I can't imagine if you don't touch voltages and only overclock the CPU much can go wrong. In worst case scenario your phone will force reboot if it's OC'ed too high.
I been running my phone on +- 1.5GHz for months now and never had a problem (and definitely higher scores in benchmarks), higher seems useless because in benchmarks you see no more improval.
Anything til around 1.5/1.6GHz should be fine.
I'm currently on rcmixed rom as you can see in my signature, and I'm using daemon controller with andrev_oc using daemon controller standard voltages for overclocking.
what voltage do you use at 1.5 GHz?

It really depends
Hi. It really depends how much your device can be overclocked without losing stability. But I don't think overclocking is really necessary on DHD. With the right ROM, it runs pretty smooth on 1 GHz.
I've installed ARHD 6.3.3. with a couple of its scripts, and it runs extremely smooth on my device and there is no lag whatsoever.
Overclocking really can lower the life of your device.

I can go up to 1.3Ghz, anything higher just freezes the device after some time and I have to pull battery out.
