Which ROM is the best ROM for the Evo4G? The most famous ROMs that I always read about is Cyanogen and MIUI?
which has a better battery life?

In my experience MIUI and CM are on similar footing when it comes to battery; it could go either way since they are both pretty similar (MIUI is based off of CM).

If you like Sense, I recommend the MikG 2.45 rom. You can then experiment with the new Freedom kernels (currently at version 0.8, with varying versions (stock, less, more, aggressive) which have different degrees of undervolting built in for improved battery life.
I went ahead and tried CM7 on the EVO 4G and it works flawlessly.
I'm sure I can save more battery life if I use SetCpu profiles? Is it o.k. to use setCPU profiles with the kernel that comes with CM7? Or is there a better kernel to use?
Also, i prefer SetCPU profiles because I can use the screen-off profile to underclock and save battery when my phone is not in use.
Miui is not based off of cyanogenmod. Miui is better anyway. IMO that is.

I love sense 3.0 Roms and you should definitely try one of kings Roms and any other out there. Anyways, if you like aosp then you should def try decks. Great on battery and works flawlessly. His Rom also has the cyanogen settings to overclock and go into detail with your phone

I have to say Decks ROM is the best I've used. Its very stable and smooth as silk. Using the SavagedZen with BFS Kernel got me excellent battery life...
So far its out of Kinged kingdom or Kings Alliance. My kid sat on my phone and played gun bros for about 4 hours yesterday around midday 10ish - 2 o'clock and the battery still had a little juice left(had not been charged since like 7am). Alliance is a little better to me only cuz it has the hacked hotspot(no error 67).
The Baked Snack ROMs are renowned for battery life.

Been rocking sense lately but nothing beats decks + savagedzen + vipermod + supercharger v6 for battery life and performance.
Edit: ......in my opinion
could you tell me where you download these from?
including the SavagedZen with BFS Kernel ?
thank you

For sense roms try out netarchys/toast kernel bfs with out havs, for aosp you could try snap turbo its super fast on cm6.

Edit; I forgot to add make sure if you have the new 0004 hardware like I do make sure the kernel supports the camera driver or it won't work.

They are all built for what you ask for. The battery thing your seeing a lot of is just an add benefit for the already built kernels. I use Netarchy's 4.2 kernels as they seem to be best for speed and battery.

You can use Netarchy's beta 4.3 and your camera will be fine. You can get the stock HTC kernel #15 with that SBC battery bit. Your choice. I think you would like Net's 4.3 IMO.

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95 or My Rom!
I suggest to start out with Net's netarchytoastmod-4.3-cfs-nohavs-noUV-nosbc-universal (No Undervolting).
This is always the best way to start off. No undervolting, no havs, and CFS usually plays nicer than BFS with most evos.
Use for a few days, and then try the less aggressive UV kernel to see the comparison to nohavs.
Then use that a few days and try the aggressive UV kernel to see how your device likes it.
Then ... you get the idea!
Only way to find what works best for your device is trial and error.
Have fun!
ps. I am still using the CFS-noUV-noHAVS-noSBC with great results. No need for me to undervolt.
yeah its all trial and error... what will work for your evo might not work for mine and so on.
Check out my guide, it may help you out.

Well... everyone is different, and all phones take each kernel different. It all depends in your usage and what things you're running. You have to try out different kernels and see. You can try SBC type kernels they work great on my phone. Give that a try. Search and look for kernels in the search box. Hope this helps

Savaged-zen is an amazing kernel, plus it has SBC which I love. Great battery life, quick. What more could you want?
I personally have good battery with the Tiamat kernel; sbc available if you want it.
OK...first post so here we go. Been using the destroyer rom and the latest sav-zen kernal (v.0.2.0 cfs) for the last two days. My phone responds pretty smooth even being underclocked. The battery life is great compared to stock...yesterday with light-moderate use I was at 17 hours with 30% left. Today over 12 hours of light use but jumping in and out of roaming for about four hours and I'm at 64%. Great job to all the devs

Alright, I would like to know, What is a kernal. Ive flashed almost every rom possible but i havn't done anything with kernals.
Thanks

I've heard it stated as "a bridge between hardware and software." They control your processor speed for certain circumstances (screen off) and what voltage your processor gets at certain speeds. It can also come with different things like audio boost and enhanced multitouch capabilities (3+ finger input). Just remember to flash a sense kernel if you're on a sense or senseless ROM, or an aosp kernel for an aosp ROM. I always wipe dalvik cache and cache partition before installing a kernel, just to make sure theres going to be no problems.

Correct, there are some overclocked kernels and some that are stock speeds, plus all of the different tweaks that can be applied. And CM7 RC2 is a ROM. CyanogenMod (ROM name) 7 (version) RC2 (release candidate). Its a pretty popular ROM.

Lmao no man, im running cm7, love it to death. What is CM7, aosp ? I know its senseless.
So not to jack your thread but its highly related to the question I've been asking today. I understand the description of a kernel above but then what would be the main differences between the kernel and the Rom of a device? Are kernels simply used to modify aspects of the phone such as processor speeds or do they also have something to do with the UI?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I dont think they have any effect on the UI
So besides just processor speed, what else could a different kernel affect?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
CM7 is AOSP.
Kernels don't affect the UI, they control processor speed mainly, but they can also come with patches that boost audio levels and enable fast charging or trickle-charge (SBC [when you charge your phone normally, it gets to 100% then stops charging regardless of being plugged in and runs off of the battery power til about 90% ish resulting in the infamous dropping 10% battery in like 5 minutes scenario. This mod enables the phone to drop its charging current once it hits 100% instead of turning off completely, maintaining the battery at 100%.]). Pretty nifty stuff

Yep, it does. I'm not too familiar with what it does, but I've heard it basically favors lower CPU speeds, saving you some extra battery life. I've yet to notice any lag or slowness from running that governor. I get pretty good battery life with this kernel too, so I figured I'd stick with it.

You'll be fine with either.
Hard to say, I tried cm many times over the years and now I just switched from sense 3.0 to deck 1.2 w a savaged zen 2.2.1 cfs kernel. Everything booted extremely fast and seems to work great! I am very satisfied w the battery life an only issue I am seeing is a slight GPS issue but I haven't had time to really address it. No one else is complaining about it so I'm sure its me, but even that being said...I recommend deck w the kernel mentioned. I have it set at 998mhz and either on demand or interactivex gov is working great. No lag. No hickups. Camera, mms works. Wifi is grabbing great and it just gets it done.
i think im gonna try out decks 1.2
after i flash is there anything else i should do to it?
Edit: GPS took a day to settle in and now working great!

Get the deck rom, gapps, and go ahead and get sz 2.2.1 cfs. Flash rom, then gapps then kernel. The reboot. Let it settle. Full reboot after it settles. Then set up. Give it a day or two before you move on and see what u think. Also keep your speed at stock speed and see how you like it. Mine is running fantastic. Don't see a need to overclock ATM

I'm having major battery drain with the latest CM7 stable release. I've lost 25% in standby in about 90 minutes....my phone was charged while off to 100% last night, and when I turned it on I left it alone....didn't even turn the screen on. when I came back an hour later it was at 78%
Can someone please recommend a good battery saving kernel, please....I'm pulling my hair out finding one. For such a popular phone the choices seems really sparse

I agree with this kernel. I use SBC as well, it will stop the 10% drop in battery whenever you unplug it.

I'm trying Mason G - v0.14 sbc uc'd to 729mhz, powersave gov....but I can't find any options to uv/ov. Does set cpu not work properly with this kernel? What app/script should I be using?
for undervolt if it is sysfs HAVS enabled you need to get vipermod. If it just says undervolt then it may have a pre-set undervolt determined by the dev.

On GB is was running this same setup and my battery life was nothing short of amazing. I had a good 15-24 hours depending on use.
best cm7 kernel?
i just recently started using mason. its pretty awesome. before that i used tiamat sbc also no problems. just try which ever ones you think you may like every couple days to see which one works best for you. i also give the kernel about 10 minutes to bake in every time before i unlock it. i dont know if thats been proven to help but it cant hurt and seems to work well for me.
I've been running mason sbc for about a week now. I had to use a combination of vipermod and smurfed out scripts to get the kernel set where I wanted it. I noticed the kernel was set for BFS by default, which I've never been a big fan of, due to its power consumption....so smurfed out let me set the scheduler to CFS, which is much more conservative and doesn't sacrifice any i/o speed, imho. Then I used vipermod to uv -25MHz so it wasn't such a battery-hog. Underclocked, undervolted, and set to CFS seems to be my winning combo!!! I get no less than 3 hours of constant screen time (streaming video, browsing the web, etc.) and enough standby to last me all day so I don't have to carry my charger with me anymore.
With every other android I've ever owned, setcpu does everything I've mentioned changing in this post...so when it wasn't working, I had no idea what to do.
Thanks so much guys!!! I couldn't have done it without all your help....HTC is in a world all its own in the android scene since they use so many different things that no other manufacturers do. It made me want to pull my hair out until you guys came along to help me out
