Protecting the gamepad - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you found a way to protect the gamepad in some way. I mean, in the same vein of the carbon fiber armor. I found something on ebay (dunno if I can post links), which is exactly a carbon fiber armor which also has a piece to cover the gamepad. I want something like that because I find myself not using the gamepad very often just for my obsession of having clean hands first and stuff like that. Also, a cover/sticker/whatever would lessen the space between the two pieces of the phone.
As that product would be shipped from Hong Kong... do you know any kind of this stuff? Perhaps, if there's not, did any of you think of crafting one? I'm thinking about doing that. Of course not carbon fiber made, just anything remotely similar.

To be honest you only take out the gamepad when you need it otherwise it's hidden underneath. So I don't think you'd really need to protect it.

Mine is also getting some scratches on gamepad

I think I'm gonna use a screen protector to cover the gamepad. I'm gonna cut out the various buttons using a 1:1 printed image of the gamepad and then apply the various pieces. Who knows!

that seems a bit overprotective to be honest.
but each to their own... i have a case around my phone and a expert sheild on the screen but noting on the gamepad.

Jesus, don't be so overprotective, scratches doesn't disturb any touch responsiveness, gaming experience etc.
You should notice that touchpads surface isn't totally smooth so protector might fall off it soon.
I think that adding any protector might not help, even might cause scratchy damage to the flex cable that is right above touchpads when phone is "closed"!

I think the Xplay have tough buttons.
I've been playing games like street fighter on it and its been hardy.
I hate how some devices buttons goes soft over time, but the xperia play doesn't have this flaw.

on ebay i found a protection screen for this, i dont know if it will really help but can test it
if i remember well it did cost about 5 euros including shipping.

It doesn't seem to protect the buttons, but I'll order one anyway, it only a few bucks.

Can you please post a link to this? I need a protector for the gamepad too

Finally ordered one, its pretty decent, doesn't fully cover the phone, but makes it look a bit nicer.
I had to use a pocket knife to push the sticker under the "sliding gap". I know I wasn't supposed to cover the buttons, but I like it that way.

Are the touchpads still functional?

of course they are. x)
the only thing preventing me to order this beauty is: is this too thick to be on the inside of the phone? is this pushing the gap or hurting the back of the screen piece?

No, it can still slide out with no problem, the sliding is a tad less smooth, but its a very light rubbing, no real friction.

Nice. I should order one of these anytime soon. Thanks for the pics man

Yep, I use the exact same skin on my Play.
Just slight rubbing when sliding the gamepad out.
Joysticks? still work perfectly fine.
The back skin protects the back from scratches extremely well.

Ultimate XDA case

Hi,
Im in search of a case which covers the outside of the exec and the inside. I want to protect the plastic around the screen from getting little dot marks when it scrapes of the keyboard. This is because the two rubbers arent exactly high enough to raise the screen so that it doesnt scrape.

Case
I am still waiting for my exec (monday should have it  )
I am considering this case from proporta - will cost me £25.89 incl p&p
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=1353&t_mode=des
I carry naked and also notice that the buttons scrape the casing which is awful. Therefore I buy a pair of stick on sponge (removable) to heighten at the strategic locations inside and outside and am pleased with the results. After mths of usage, I am happy to say that it still looks brand new no matter what angle of view I view my set. Well put in special pouch with smooth cushion(very soft that cannot scratch the surfaces) is also an essential element for my case. Well if u prefer another option. Try silicon case which should works well else try krusell leather for protection if u dun prefer my way.
try this, i have ordered one. it seems really good for overall jasjar protection

I used to be envoled with a firm that used (and still use) this stuff as a stone chip protecion for cars and bikes. The market for it is hugh. I'd be interested to know how you stick it to the jasjar as the stuff we used was applied using a solution of water and shampoo (believe it or not) and you had to use plenty of it (soaking).
Let us know would ya?
Thanks

Did you custom order a full shield or just a screen shield? I was thinking of the second option, if what they say on their specifications (99% clarity, extra durable, designed for US helicopter blades blah blah) is true.
Please keep us posted
Will it come off, once applied?

I just received my touch today, and the skin is amazing. I ordered a full body shield, but they actually build the full body and the screen as separate pieces, so you can buy either. At first I didn't even recognize the skin, it adds a sort of rubbery feel, and it is kind of shiny, but not much. I actually keep my touch in my keys pocket, and it doesn't show any wear at all, but it's been only a day now.

You can actually remove it, I don't know exactly how. Since they don't use actual glues to stick it, it doesn't leave any residue.

guys I've ordered a cheap silicon case on ebay. Got here today in good quality, but it has this rubber odor. learned my lesson im not buying these cheap silicons next time..
Invisible Protector
Anyone tried any of the products?
How is it?
I would be interested in anyone's experience with this too. I've used similar product from BestSkinsEver but only for screens on my non-touchscreen devices. Great protection and durability. I'm worried about how this will be on the rubberized surface of the Touch and if would pull off if you want to remove.
best skins ever
I've got a best skins ever for my iPod, and I love it. I believe it's the same material as invisible shields, but much cheaper.
I'm not buying it for my touch - yet - as it would spoil the matt finish if I covered it, and the supplied screen save is good for now.
this $6.99 skin would give you plenty of material to completely cover your phone, or screen protectors for several phones (I think....I'm not much good with imperial measurements]

I am on day 2 with the full body shield. I got it from the above website. They didn't send an email and the website didn't give me a tracking number. The website showed my delivery on hold until the 28th of October and never updated. I was almost to the point of calling to cancel when it just suddenly arrived. I guess I am just used to all the warm fuzzies I get from other suppliers, but it has left a bad feeling about their customer service.
The package was complete with spray, squeegee and protector.
It was a pain to get on perfectly, but with enough of the spray it is possible. The front comes in eight pieces. 2 for the top near the speaker, 2 for the buttons, 2 long skinny ones for the sides one for the navigation button and one for the screen.
The screen protector was actually pretty easy. Just make sure you get the curved end down. It didn't completely cover everything. There is a gap about the size of a fingernail on each side in the silver area. Of course I started on one of the sides, so I have a double fingernail gap on my right side.
I put the buttons on next. I lined up the cutouts and they went on ok. There is a little gestimation room so be sure to get a gap around the call and end buttons. There is a small square for the center button. It is a pain to center and mine looks off a little and it looked like I was about to pull my button out of the case when I tried to remove the shield to recenter it. I would probably skip this one.
The two long skinny ones were a pain. I would suggest tweasers so you can see where to place them.
The two top pieces were pretty easy, just make sure you don't overlap the two side pieces.
The back was 3 pieces, 1 big one the covers most of the back. 1 ring for the camera and 1 dot for the mirror.
When I put the large piece on the back I had to reposition it several times. When I was done I had a couple of small bubbles. The website said the bubbles should go away after a couple of days, so I just left them to see. If not I will pull it off and try again.
The ring was a pain. My fingers kept getting in the way. This is another piece for the tweasers.
The mirror piece as great. It is clear. After having my mirror on my 8125 get scratched from laying on it's back I know this is a weak area.
Note: I put this on late at night and lack of sleep probably contributed to any mistakes. I had watched the video so I used the spray and this helped. After 2 days it is looking better. I still have a couple of bubbles they are smaller and the tiny ones are gone. I will wait a few more days to see. The 2 top corners on the back seem to have a problem sticking. This was probably a placement issue, but unless it spreads I will wait for the bubbles before any realignment.
As far as use, there is a rubber feel now. The stylus drags and my finger drags but I can't seem to scratch this stuff. I feel pretty comfortable using my fingernail to tap now. I am pretty hard on electronics so I think I can live with it. I read on other sites that this goes away as the protector cures. I will let you know.
I hate to make a judgment after two days, but I would have to give this one a thumbs up.
I've also ordered a full shield from shielzone.com, haven't gotten it yet. I suspect they don't provide a tracking number since they ship free and use the cheapest USPS service available, which wouldn't have any tracking (e.g. express would have, and on regular postage only if you pay for registered would have tracking). I exchanged a few emails with them before I ordered and they were very helpful.
Now that I'm waiting to buy the HTC Polaris, it feels like I'm just wasting money, but it would be good training for the next invisible shield. that is, if I'm satisfied with it
Btw, I've tried the silicon cases as well, got one from Boxwave. While quality is reasonable, I can't understand how people can use that. It looks ugly, I just couldn't stand it (I've paid to have a sleek looking ppc phone). It also made it bulkier and hindered scrolling on the sides. That was a big waste of money on my side, but I've learned my lesson ... never silicon cases again.

the standard screen protector is actually very good and scratch resistant. i've been using it for a week and a half, taking it to work and play, in and out of pockets, even ones with zips (although been extra careful here i guess!). and still not a single tiny scratch anywhere.
I’m currently looking for a silicon case for the Xperia Play, which should be the same as the ones available for the Arc.
Anyone noticed a case like that? =/
Looking for the same, Please inform me if you found any.
Best Regards.

Thanks how does this work is it a clip on case or like a pouch that you have to take the phone in and out of.?
The Sony Ericsson SMA7110 Executive Hard Case has that elasticated middle, I guess its a snug fit? only worry is it would catch/scratch rear case?
At the moment still looking for a case but think I may just leave it with out. Keep screen protector fitted and then when the rear case can always be replaced if it gets damaged.
I had a Zagg kit once and know a lot of people who swear by them but they always end up pealing on the edge and look hideous when they do
Hopefully some decent cases or replacement covers will come out soon.

This is official Sony Ericsson hard pouch case for the Xperia Play. It has a magnetised closing flap at front and as Laird mentioned the flap also doubles as a pull tab to remove the play.

Yes it is a snug fit, no movement (prob cause it was made for the phone ). And as far as catching/scratching the back when removing/inserting the play. I have had mine in and out of the case about 30+ times and no scratches or any visable marks. The case is lined with a velvet lining to prevent such things. I took a pic see below.
I was looking for a clip on case but due to the the slide motion i think the best kinda clip on case would be the zagg. I mainly want the zagg for the back cover for better grip since i already have 2 screen protectors on lol.
hmmm it seems your right, probably was cheaper but cost more for postage so they got the £15ish in the end But £15 instead of £25, bargain (looks cool too ). Would recommend to anyone.
I hate the look of cases on new shiny devices.
I just stick to my motto.
"Don't ****ing drop it! "
There's some designed hard cases on Ebay if you take a look. For the UK it will be under the international sellers section.
So... Today I didn't stick to my motto :0
No damage done though, quite a sturdy little thing. Was expecting the back to fly off at the very least but all held together well.
Oh, and this was on to concrete floor from about 3 feet !
I fitted a zagg full shield for now, all looking good apart from maybe 2 bits of dust trapped on the screen
as for the case, i have seen some hard shell cases on eBay, 3 different colors
Type SHELL CASE FOR SONY ERICSSON XPERIA PLAY to find them.
I'm wanting a leather case with the screw on clip at the back, as i use them to attach phones to my motorbike for the sat nav,
but I'm still unable to find one that will fit the play, my old desire cover is of course too thin
if anyone has seen any please let me know.

Decent ebay case?

Any tips on a decent ebay case?
Just received this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261027269...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
The fit is really tight, camera is somewhat protected (about 0.5mm beneath surface) and extra grip on the sides is good I guess (I was already used to the smooth finish one the phone itself so the grainy surface feel a bit weird). Buttons need a lot more force to push though. Good for some afraid to accidentally activating the phone while in their pocket, but for me it's ruining the usage experience a bit. I probably will get used to it after a couple of days.
Anyway it's really cheap and in my opinion worth a try.
Btw, the one advertised as grey is actually clear with matte clear in the middle.
Thanks, I preffer those that are more flexible though or the snap-on one.
I am using a case similar to this but bought from amazon, I like the idea that the camera lense is protected by 5mm, no scratches and case doesn't get in the way of pics
It adds a bit more bulk to the phone, less likely to slip out your hand as well, buttons are harder to press, no accidental presses while in your pocket, all the cut outs are perfect, which I was very pleased about
Think I payed £1.95 + p&p....I still think I robbed them, seriously under priced for such a well fitted case and all cut outs perfect

The price was £1.49 (I think seller has changed the price) and you get case, screen protector and a stylus.
All the holes line up and it adds a bit of bulk to the phone. The screen protector was not a perfect fit but I seem to be using the stylus more than I thought (it works really well and keeps my finger prints off lol)
cant complain for less than 2 quid.
I can't say enough good things about this case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clear-Screen-Protector-Qubits-Accessories/dp/B007V38BF0/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
It's on amazon but I've seen them listed on ebay under different names.
It basically looks just like the pictures and really looks good on the phone. It doesn't add much bulk and does a really good job at protecting everything. The included screen protectors are nice. They scratch easily but they don't show prints as much or have that rainbow effect like harder protectors. There are tons of cases out there for 10x the price but I wouldn't trade them for this one. I wish the pogo pins weren't covered but I'm not sure they would work anyway with the added thickness of the case.

I got myself one of those from ebay. It fits really well and looks decent but the buttons are not molded well. Even the slightest touch and power / volume buttons will activate. Maybe I just got a dud product.
I will try to gouge some plastic away from the bottom where the buttons should fit and it should make the case usable. Not going to send it back because it was so cheap and not worth the hassle.

Like I mentioned mine probably got overlooked by the monkeys in the QA line (if the manufacturers of these cheap cases even have those ).
If you got a perfect case then good for you - it fits the phone perfectly and protects the camera very well.

White Metal Bumper Review w/ Hex Screws

Not much of a reviewer here, but I ordered this from eBay about 2 weeks ago and it arrived today from China. Packaging was a bit strange and is advertised as a Flip Cover i9300. It comes with 1 driver for the screws which can be put on your keychain. 6 screws ( 4 for the phone and 2 extra on the driver ). The overall feel is pretty smooth. The paint seems a bit cheap and might chip easily over time. The buttons are a bit difficult to access.. thats my main gripe, but not near as bad as pressing really hard on the otterbox commuter. No dramatic signal loss that I can tell .. I benchmarked at -87 and with the case -95. Pictures behind the link to show it off in action. If you have any questions please post them here!

Thanks for the pics, I ordered the same case and am waiting for it to arrive. Glad to see the signal loss isnt too bad.

I want to get one but i really do not see the point in buying one for two reasons..
1. The back bit of the phone is the bit i want to protect this doesn't keep it from getting scratched and stuff.
2. It's ugly lol..

I'll take it out tonight and double check. I was so excited to get it on that I didn't even look at it that well. I'll check it out tonight.. I did contemplate looking into putting more in. I'll try and take some better pictures of it.
How do you push the buttons?

its a bit difficult if you have big fingers, but the tips of my fingers fit in there nicely.. its a bit harder than most cases.
bought the same one in black for my white s3. case is perfect fit for a pouch. previous smoke tpu case would always shut the phone off
would of bought it if it covered the buttons, so it would be easier to press. also, having a nice backplate would be nice, but i was thinking of just buying the white carbon fiber back
@chrischoi Never heard of triobump but we'll see how it goes
Just looked it up on YouTube and see your post.

The bumper alone drops reception about 5db, adding a metal backplate would encase the phone in a faraday cage, thus drooping reception to 0. making it no longer a phone, be glad no-one has offered that, because anyone that bought it, would be wasting money.
wow i really like the look and shape of that metal bumper, I think it looks really nice!
I wonder if they have a version with buttons instead of holes.
I have a "fake triobump" without buttons, and its easy enough to use once you get used to it, I'd still prefer to have buttons for the cleaner look and ease of use.
the hex screw bumper with buttons would be perfect!
btw my "fake triobump" was slightly loose fitting at first, but it was very snug once i put on my screen protector and fake carbon fiber backplate (which also slightly recesses the camera :good I LOVE the fit and feel of this combination.

I want to get one but i really do not see the point in buying one for two reasons..
1. The back bit of the phone is the bit i want to protect this doesn't keep it from getting scratched and stuff.
2. It's ugly lol..

LOL the GS3 back is simple to replace and only $7 to get a new OEM one. I don't see a reason to add the bulk of a full case when I can just add a bumper to the part that's harder to protect.
