Rooted my phone yesterday and... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Rooted my phone yesterday an now on stock 4.0.2(rooted ), before i rooted my phone i had it for approximately one billing cycle, in this first month the first 2 or 3 days it was great the next 2 or 3 days i was dropping signal frequently then after that my signal never dropped again no grey bars with no 3g none of that, I root my phone yesterday an today i drop service from like 7 pm till now 330 am, just grey bars no 3g signal i went in an out of airplane mode a couple times nothing read that there were outages this morning so i didn't look to much into it,i took a nap around 9pm an just woke up an saw the phone still in the no data stage so i just turned it off an back on an now i have 3g, did i do something wrong with root, i was particularly happy with my service and speeds now i can't hold on to 3g i know it's only been one day and it's hard to come to a conclusion but just looking into what you guys think.

Did you do full wipe before and or after root? Also check the thread where you got your ROM and send message of issue to that ROM dev.

Did you root it (i.e., gain admin/root access on stock firmware and install superuser) or did you completely wipe stock and install a custom firmware not made by Google?
As you may or may not understand: Those two are not the same. The symptoms you mention can't come from merely rooting your phone, as you claim to have done.
Not to be nitpicky about it, but if you cannot accurately portray what you have done, it's hard to pinpoint what the problem may be.
Right now your statement makes about as much sense as "I rooted my phone yesterday, and today the donuts came with strawberries".

I had similar issue last night....I woke up around 6am to find that I had no network connection and my battery was down to 5% (mind u I went to sleep at midnight with 57% battery left), and I figured it had to do with the radios looking for a signal. I'm rooted running the 4.0.4 rom update.

[Q] Singal/Radio affected by ROM???

Not sure if other users have seen this, but I found something interesting last night...
Since assurion screwed me and replaced my stolen amoled with slcd my options were somewhat limited in ROM selection. Skyraider was my goto previously.
I have been using Jaeger since my replacement got here about a month ago, and consistently have been having signal/radio issues. Data would randomly stop working, airplane mode would not work to recover, no signal at my desk, etc.. Battery poppin was a standard.
Last night I installed INCRom, and while the transitions & keyboard are driving me nuts the ROM itself is super fast, feels like a new phone. The reason for the post is, for the first time since I got the phone I have been able to wifi tether for longer then 4 mins without Data being disconnected. I was intermittently receiving e-mails in the train and full signal at my desk. I'm wondering if this somehow related to the ROM? Obviously no scientific testing has been done.
Ya, this problem has been poppin up where 3G would just drop out. If you really like Jaeger, then try this fix. It might help, but I haven't personally tried it out.

Thanks... that's what I get for not keeping up... I'm going to take the weekend, if my kid can keep herself busy with her gifts to write my own...

[Q] Internet quality issues

I hate to bother the people here but you all are my last chance at fixing this problem or at least hopefully getting advice on how to make Sprint fix it.
About 2 weeks ago there was a major service outage in my area. Internet went down first followed by phone and text service about 3 hours later. The outage started at around midnight and lasted till around noon. Almost every night since then I have been loosing data signal between midnight and 2 am. When it does start to come back on the signal is terrible. The outage lasts between 30 minutes and 3 hours and the slow service afterward usually lasts for another 15 to 20 minutes. Today I had internet drop around 11 am. I have called Sprint 5 times. So far I have been told to reset every possible thing you can reset on my phone and none of that has helped. Now they are saying that I live in a "Signal May Vary" area and that it is not their problem. This issue is happening with all Sprint phones in this area. I work for an ambulance service and happen to be around alot of other people with Sprint. So far we have 3 Epic 4g's and an Epic 4g Touch that are all experiencing this issue. Two of the Epic's are running CM9 Alpha 3 and the other is stock. The Epic Touch is running stock (but rooted) EL29. Normal download speed for us on 3g is 1.0 to 1.75 mbps as determined by the Speedtest.net app.
Any help you guys can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
have you updated your prl 2x and profile 2x? tell them to reset your profile on their end. when you do this, you need to have the phone totally off. after they reset your profile, you turn your phone back on, and update prl and profile 2x.. make sure your battery is fully charged.
all your services are in a "switch glitch loop". but once you do this.. you should be ok.. you have to be patient though. after updating it will take about 5 mins for full speed to kick in with the tower and your phone.
I haven't done all of those in that exact order but they have all been done over multiple calls. I will try them though if I can get sprint to understand that they need to reset the profile.
And also would this be likely to happen to multiple phone all at once? Or is this just a really freaky coincidence?
just tell them that you need them to reset your "profile from they're end". if they say they can't do it.. tell them you want to talk directly to advanced tech support. "DO NOT, DO NOT" tell them you are rooted.. even if they ask.. do not admit to it.

Mobile Network Error?!

Alright so i've been having this problem on and off latley and its getting on my nerves. I will randomly throughout the day lose all mobile connect and revert to roaming. i know its not with carrier dropping the signal because ive called and asked for status in my area. If i reflash my current rom i will gain 3g again for about 10 minutes then lose it. I have attached a picture of all my phone specs.
Any ideas whats going on and how to fix it?
Does it happen on gingerbread roms or just on ics?
not sure. only had AOKP build 37 flashed
Sorry seen your other post with your other issues. I see you are on the new software and stuck with s on. If you want stable awesome rom with everything working I recommend the M5.01 ext4. Awesome ROM actually made me like sense and everything works great!
I had this happen 3 times today. I am rooted running andybones stock.
However my wife was on her unrooted totally stock rhyme when she got home a few hours ago and she said she got the popup as well. So it wasn't just my phone. Seems like it could be a problem with the network in our area.
I updated my prl last night on got a new number 52811. Now the problem seems worse. Called Verizon and they confirmed that that is the current prl. Also today my battery dropped from 80% to 30% in about 3 hours. Not really sure what is happening. Thought it was a Verizon thing but now out seems it might be my phone. Guess I will try to mess with the internal antennae.

yeah verizon is trying to send me a new inc 2 but they have none available to be shipped out until next week....
I really think it is a network issue and not a phone issue (although it could be something related to the antennae on the back cover).
I have noticed my phone getting hotter than usual only on the bottom half only when I am using 3g (but not on wifi at all) as well as network issues such as jumping to 1x where I always have 3g service after updating my PRL yesterday. i called verizon and they verified that it is the current PRL 52811.
The network issues are more noticeable if I hold the phone anywhere on the bottom half.

No Network Signal After Flash to 4.1 on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

I just updated to 4.1 and can't seem to get a network signal on any of the ROMs I have tried. Anyone else had this problem or found or know of a solution?
Thanks.

Was this an OTA uprade? If you did an manual upgrade, you should make a backup before going forward.
Are you sure you used the correct ROM? Cross-flashing between a Toro/Maguro/Toro+ will often have the phone but up but with the radios not working
did you check your apn?
I just bought this phone on Thursday and the bestbuy rep had the same problem on two different phones and had to call the Verizon help desk. She managed to get it working and of course my signal went in and out as soon as I left the parking lot. I went home and immediately rooted and flashed 4.1 and had the same issue. I was on the phone with tech support and they couldn't find the problem.
I then did a quick search online and found that this is a common issue. The problem is that when updating to 4.0.4 the galaxy nexus has a hard time with the 4g connection. It then drops to 3g and then it realizes 4g is available and switches back just to start this never ending cycle. This causes a signal to be held for seconds at a time before dropping completely until it switches to the other.
The temp fix is to disable LTE and run your phone on CDMA full time. This worked for me and I have constant signal everywhere. Eventually I know a patch will arrive so I'm content with 3g for the time being.
What puzzles me is how come this doesn't happen to everyone? Its a big enough issue that I found the solution within 3min of searching for a fix but not big enough for Verizon to be aware of.

I have the same issue. it burns your battery as well by switching back and forth. I used to leave my nexus uncharged at night and the sleep mode would allow it to only lose a a few percentages but now if i leave 4g on with 50 percent battery.. Its almost alway dead when I wake up
Sad to say I have the same experience
The story told by mclaughlin47 is almost exactly what happened with me. Even rooted and running BAMF Paradigm 2.1, I still have the same problem. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, please let us know.
I can't believe Verizon isn't aware of this problem. I actually had better battery life and signal with my Thunderbolt running Vicious ROM. I may just be returning mine if I don't hear of a solution soon.
Thanks for any help, cause this is ridiculous!
I am rooted now, but even on stock ICS I was getting a problem where my radios just die. Requires a reboot to fix. But when I was seeing it, they always looked fine. You don't know they died until you try to use data or make a call.
Do you still have your imei

I saw the same issue with ics and jb roms. Tried several radios but always dropped data and voice when using 4g. From what I've been reading, it's a hardware defect.
Mine also works great and stays connected all the time when I leave it in cdma mode. Went back to my rezound since 3g mode there at least still let's me use data while talking on the phone. I like showering in as much radiation as I can

Reflash the radio and the cdma radio. Samsung and Verizon Wireless both claim that hardware defects are not known issues.
Which hardware revision do you have? (looks on the label on the back should be 11.11, 11.12, or 12.0.)
i have 12.01
will try reflashing the latest radios

Have the same exact issue...just upgraded to a jelly bean Rom and my data drops completely and I barely have a signal, did a super wipe (radio-rom-Gnapps)...and went to my old rom of ICS and I still have the same problem...but for the most part I barely have any type of signal and calls are dropping, called Verizon and they told me something about a switch, and that there is no problem in ur area....I just called last night, I'm gonna call back today...wish there was a solution ...also tried that 3G switch I just read earlier and I still have a poor signal
Any updates? I'm having the same problem
Hi,
I'm having the same issue. I've had my Nexus for about a month now and have had nothing but horrible signal issues, while my old Droid 2 gets fantastic signal.
I'm using the latest Bugless Beast 4.1.1 with the latest radios that were released today.
People have mentioned it being a hardware defect. I'm assuming I should just go back to stock ICS and go into Verizon and exchange it for a different Nexus?
It may very well be a hardware problem, but my thought was a SIM card problem for the reason that rebooting often does not solve the problem for me. I have a passcode on my SIM card, so if my phone doesn't ask me to enter the code then I can assume it doesn't see the card. This often happens when I encounter the loss of data problem and reboot, and I usually have to remove the SIM card and fiddle with it a bit and put it back in and then it reconnects.
So I went to the Verizon store to try and swap my SIM card and they wouldn't give me a new card, saying that it's a known software issue that Samsung has already attempted to fix twice and they are working on another OTA update. I obviously made a ruckus about how I'm paying for service I can't access and I want a different device, blah, blah, blah. Basically he was incredibly unhelpful.
I've been on ICS AOKP and recently switched over the CM10 JB and that's when the problems started for me, but I switched because some type of battery issue (it lasted about 3 hours for a few days) caused my phone to reset itself and erase everything so it seemed like a good time to upgrade. So I may have unique hardware issues going on but according to vzw it is software-based. I'm not sure if this is something that can/will be addressed in a new nightly if that's the case.
PEOPLE, IT'S NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM! IT'S SIMPLY A RADIO.IMG PROBLEM! A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO IS ON ICS, BUT FLASHED LATEST RADIO ARE SUFFERING FROM THIS!
What you can do is just flash to a older radio image. Not that hard. Will this stop the OTA? Probably, but you can either flash the latest version back or just manually flash it.
Have a good day.
I got mine the first week of Aug at Best Buy. The first one I got had all the problems described above. Radios dropping out and dropping every call I made. I returned it the next day, and the sales guy told me he was 100% sure it wasn't the phone. I asked him to exchange the phone and the card because I couldn't use a phone that couldn't make calls. He did the exchange, and the second phone was actually worse. Most of the time, I could not even make a call. So, the next day I took that one back. They gave me a third one that worked great for a week, then I started getting a no SIM card error message. The phone would reboot and work again for about 3 hours, then repeat error message. I took the card out, wiped down all the contacts with a soft cloth, and I have had no problems since. Great reception, no dropped calls. Great phone. I don't know if it is hardware or software, but I would keep returning the phone until you get one that works!
Once again, what is the point of having a phone that can't make calls.

Where to go next with the LG G2 and why?

I could use some advice as to what to do next with my LG G2…
Battery life on the G2 was always exceptional since day one, and I could count on some pretty decent 4G LTE coverage. When KitKat came down, it seems to get even better. I could run ALL my radios (voice, data, WiFi, BlueTooth, and Location ) simultaneously, never have to check my power settings, and easily get 18-26 hours at the low end, and up to 37 hours on a single charge, at the high end. Even with my Pebble Smartwatch receiving updates all day.
Then Sprint visited the Spark update upon us, and it has been downhill ever since. In my home area alone, there are 3 totally different towers. One 3G, one 4g LTE and one Spark tower, and none talk to each other. My entire city has gone from some notable 4g LTE coverage to VERY sparse LTE coverage (mostly 3g or nothing). My battery life is only good if I turn all my radios off, and any time I am actively using my device, I am burning power at a seemingly exponential rate. Now my battery life is down to 13-15 hours on a single charge. Maybe 16 at the high end.
And, to add insult to injury, mine is one of the devices that has lost the knock on function as a result of the Spark update.
So, my questions are this…
I have heard I can use my MSL to turn off two of the frequencies and restore my OLD LTE capability, to maybe improve my service. Is this true?
What is the current way to get the MSL? Sprint has flat out refused to give it to me.
Since a key LG function (knock on) is gone, I’m not sure I care if I keep the rest. Are there other ROMS worth considering?
Do any of them improve battery life, voice and data connectivity or both?
Do any of them allow for a “Roam Only” option, as used to exist with Sprint phones, moons ago? I could at least count on better voice if I roamed on Verizon. And, frankly, if they dumped me for it, that would be no big deal.
I am currently running stock, unrooted. Is there REALLY a built in root counter that tells LG how many times I have rooted, so my warranty gets voided?
If it’s safe to root, what are the best, easiest methods? And, again, what ROMs work best with the G2?
Thanks to all for your time and patience.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I am stock unrooted latest update with spark and easily get 30+ bat life. Today I got my longest at 50 hours with 5 hour screen time.
And there are other ways to get msl something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521276
But yea I hear disabling the two frequencies have helped some people so I would say try it.

Thanks for your reply, and I really wish I was still in that boat. Unfortunately, the standard "## whatever#" option doesn't work at all with the Sprint G2 running KitKat and Spark. I will have to try the tethered option, but I have to wait to use my wife's work laptop because I have a Mac.
VERY frustrating that there isn't just a new code I could just key in.
Will keep trying,
.....
wish i had an answer for you, i am updated to latest radio rooted and my average speed tests are good 25-30 whenever i run it. i have heard a lot of people saying the spark update ruined there phone
just so you know, you can be on a voice call and use your data at the same time UNLESS your connected to wifi also. This has always been the case since day 1 for ANY TRIBAND phone with sprint.
I am not sure about a root counter. I will say it was deliciously easy to root my stock ZVC phone. The method I used took all of 2 minutes literally.
First I downloaded towelroot ( https://towelroot.com/ ) to my phone. Installed and ran.
Boom. Now I had root. Installed SuperSU from the play store to manage root permissions. Then got autoprime's autorec from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496 installed that to phone and boom had twrp recovery. Made a backup of my stock rooted system did an advanced wipe of everything but internal storage...installed the ZV8 radio and then CM11. knock on even works, and mine WAS broken as well

As far as getting your MSL is concerned, if you have an old phone kicking around (or even just an old MEID) head over to sprint.com/activate and switch the line to that MEID, then activate your G2 again. When you go through their online activation procedure, they automatically give you your MSL, Phone #, ICCID, MEID, etc. on the confirmation page and on the email they send you. If you need an MEID I have one off my old Google Nexus S that drowned last month.
Did you disabling the other radios? Can you provide an update and let me know if it did improve the battery life?
