How to UN-Brick - SDH-710 Samsung EL29 S2 Galaxy - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I was using the Odin3 procedure to root and mixed and matched procedures... STUPID! Got it first stuck only showing the S2 Galaxy screen, then after a bit more stupid steps, got it to say "Firmware Update Issue, use Kies to recover".
It WOULD go to Download screen, but would not do anything else...
Model #SPH-D710
710.10 S.EL29
So, here is what I did to get back up and running.
Used Odin3 v1.85 (Download and use from Admin user)
I used 3 files.
1. Partition file, Attached (EL29)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265023
2. Stock Firmware that I downloaded from http://www.samfirmware.com/ (need to register, then click on the Firmware tab, then on SmartPhone, Android, Model D710, then download the ~270mb file.
3. Modem file (attached)
Screen shot of what it should look like.
Modem file goes under Phone:
Large file, Firmware from samfirmware, goes under PDA
Pit file, goes under PIT.
Put the phone in Download mode by holding down the Power + Vol Down for 10ish seconds... Should get a yellow bar on Odin...
Make sure you are running Odin from Admin user (I think this helped)
Start, and away you go... should take about 5 min and you're done...
I then used the Odin One Click and it worked to root...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
I specifically used the ALL IN ONE file "SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED_NODATA-oc-sfx.exe" that kept my data intact. Simply run it, start the phone in Download mode, once you get the yellow bar (assuming the drivers are installed), you will be golden.
Hope this helps someone...
Thanks for everyone on this forum and all your great work! All files were found on this site, and others...

Accidental post
But PDA only is fine
Also this is q and a plus I believe qbking77 has a few videos on this

The EL29 tarball includes the modem partition, why double flash it?
Also,

[Q] (ROM)(ODIN)...that does not brick

I greet you all.
My question is related to ODIN. I remember the days I was using Samsung Vibrant and Eugene had put together for us a nice stock tar file that came really handy when the pure stock tar fails to revive the phone from soft brick.
I would then follow the following directions posted by Neffstarr below:

Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? 2 Fixes to Help You Out.
So you forgot to disable the voodoo lagfix before you flashed a new rom and now you're getting an error, similar to the one posted below. Even Odin won't allow you to flash back to stock. Well, pay close attention and with some luck, you'll be good as rain...or something like that.
Fix 1:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!
Here is the original post regarding Eugene373 Froyo that does not brick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558
I remember a few times when using ODIN during the Vibrant days to try and go back to stock it will go half way and fail. Here is a good example below and this happened to someone using the galaxy s2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420289
Does anyone know if someone has developed a tar file similar to the one Eugene developed for the Vibrant?
Thanks

That was for bad ext 4 conversions. there isn't a need for such a thing now. I'd you screw up a Odin flash, unless Odin recognizes your device, you phone is done. Jigs don't work either.
Pay for the Odin flash if you can't do it. No shame. These phones are expensive!

[Q] Samsung galaxy 3 stuck in on boot screen

Hi Guys,
Need your help.
My Samsung galaxy 3 is stuck on the boot screen. I cannot get into recovery mode but download mode works.
Some background info: The phone has never been rooted. It seemed to have slowed down a week ago . I had the screen replaced a month ago as it had cracked. I did experience some problems charging it 2 months back but a new battery and charger seemed to work.
I am not at all technical but will follow any straight forward instructions given by u guys.
My main goal is to get into my phone and its data. So please give suggestions which i can try which will still retain the data.
Many thanks 
If you can get download mode you can Odin flash the stock firmware. See my sig for links to everything you need, namely the firmware thread.

This guide will get your phone back up and running properly.
Easy and sure way to fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide:
Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file.
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
• Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
• Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
• Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
• Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
• Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
• You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
• Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
• Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
• Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
• TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
• If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
• Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
• Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
• You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
• Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
• (It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!
samsung galaxy 3 stuck on boot screen
Thanks for getting back to me. ~Sorry since I actually don't have a clue about all this technical stuff am just going to ask a couple of more silly questions.
so if I try this I should still have my data on the phone? i.e. contacts and pictures?
Misterjunky you said " Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin"
is that the same instruction "Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5"
:silly:

Odin flashing the stock rooted firmware will not touch any of your music, pictures and video, it will wipe
wipe all the apps which you have installed, but it's easy to get all that back using the Play Store.
Your contacts will be restore automatically by google after you are done flashing and sign into your
gmail, just be sure that you have either the data turned on or turn the wifi on so google can restore
your contacts, then go to the play store and install whatever apps you had before.
and yes, download the firmware and unzip it to the same folder on your computer's desktop which contains Odin.
once the firmware is unzip it will have a TAR extension as it states in the step by step guide.

thanks for the last message.

With Odin gave error on modem partition (when start to flash). I can flash the recovery partition
With any box on sboot partition
I can go in download mode but CAN’T go in recovery mode, stuck in Samsung galaxy logo
I don’t know anything about the history
Is supposed to be a phone with cracked LCD but after replaced I’m stuck
Thanks for any ideas
P.S
please don't ask me to wipe or entry in recovery mode because the phone is not able, just in download mode
thanks again
Did the device boot up correctly after you received it?
about getting into recovery, just flash one with odin in download mode and see if you can get into it (home + power + volume up (or down, can't remember which of the 2 are for download mode, haven't used it in ages) ) I would recommend TWRP, as that one has a file manager in it you could use to see if there's anything on the device already.
make sure you get the official rom for your device
Code:
sammobile.com
most likely has what you need, downloads are slow though and you need to register but its a good site nevertheless.
make sure the file of the rom isn't corrupted, do a md5 check before you try to flash it. After downloading the rom zip file you need to extract it and point odin to the tar file with the "PDA" button, do not select anything besides "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" (they should be selected when opening ODIN, leave the other setting checked off)
What settings did you use in odin if i may ask? if you choose to repartition or erase nand or whatever they call it in the newer versions, you might have a serious issue as you have to have a special PIT file to get the partitions back. It also would explain why odin can't flash to the boot partition as its simply not available. If i'm not mistaken the PIT file for our devices isn't available.
could you perhaps explain a bit more in detail what steps you took after you got the device/replaced the screen in combination with odin and such? If you can't flash recovery or a rom through odin, then my best bet would be your device is ready to be thrown in the garbage.
i have the same prob once, and solved it...
here's what i did.
-reflash stock rom via odin
-reboot (boot loop acheived!)
-flash TWRP
-wipe cache/dalvik
-reboot but this time stuck at sammy logo for a while...
i left it alone for a while, about 15 mins. came back, and saw i was at the initial setup screen. try it... it may work for you too.

he tried flashing with odin though, but he got an error while flashing about the modem partition, either something is broken inside the phone,(missing partitions due to wrong wipe in odin perhaps) or the rom he downloaded is corrupted. Also he seems to have issues with the recovery being unable to be flashed to the device.
as soon as you get the samsung boot logo (not the initial galaxy one where your device model is mentioned) the rom is booting up, first time always takes a while being stuck on the galaxy logo however means there's probably not any boot partition written with a boot.img by odin This could also mean either corrupted rom file or lack of partition to write too. No boot partition means the device simply doesn't know it should load something.
If i understand his post correctly he bought a second-hand device where only the screen was broken. i don't know how the screen got broken in the first place, but if the device took a hard fall, there's a big chance its not only the screen but also some hardware got broken.
i have more details
actualy is a AT&T version (someone changed the screen from a canadian phone but forgot to change the label
I'm able to flash the AT&T rom I317ATTALJ2 from sammobile with odin 9reboot and F. reset time checked) but is stuck on samsung galaxy note 2 logo
I CAN"T entry in recovery mode (don't know why)
only download mode

i bought the phone with cracked screen
after tried many times i asked the owner and he told me the label is from a Canadian phone but the motherboard is from at&t
i can flash ONLY with odin and only I317UCALJ2 firmware. Any other firmware from at&t or not i have error when flash the system partition
i tried also with Octopus Box and Z3x Box. Same error
after flash successfully with odin is stuck in Samsung logo and NO RECOVERY MODE
so don't ask me to wipe
maybe with some Linux commands?
thanks

try to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37688128 or if you have a different model than 7105 do a google search for a pit file for that phone.
afterwards flash the stock rom for your model (att/tmobile/etc) the rom itself should contain everything you need.
Found a pit file i will upload it here but it is from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376405 hope this helps

seeing as the motherboard is from AT&T should he still use the canadian PIT file?
(don't wanna sound like a noob, and don't have the slightest clue about how the hardware inside the phone actually works so i'm just trying to learn new stuff )
I don't think it makes a difference as far as the pit goes
just let you know i was able to flash a stock rom from at&T and the phone work well now
thanks to everybody:good:

Sprint GS3 Stock 4.3 firmware here!

I've managed to download a fully working 4.3 md5 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. I've uploaded it to Mediafire so you don't have to deal with slow download speeds. Took me 7 hours to download this from a different website. i hope you all enjoy PM me if the link gets taken down, and i'll re-upload it. This is Android 4.3 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. this firmware is to be flashed with Odin, (I've provided 3.07 on Mediafire as well) which you can download below, Samsung device drivers (Version 1.3.15.0000.0) are included as well, and the Stock 4.3 firmware in the link below. You will also need Winrar to extract and run Odin.
Samsung Drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/board/download.do?bdId=0000000700&attachId=0000000001
Sprint GS3 4.3 stock Firmware: https://www.mediafire.com/?nq2ugt0oo9tlj65
Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Note: this is NOT rooted and it DOES have knox.
For beginners with flashing firmware on Odin, after you download the S3 firmware, put your S3 into Download mode. If you have a USB jig like me, you plug that in. If not, while the device is turned off, hold the volume DOWN, POWER button, and HOME button.
Run Odin as an administrator, make sure the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes ARE checked, the click the PDA button, navigate to the place where you downloaded the firmware too, and click it. It will take a second to check the md5 file, Odin will freeze and not respond, so let it load. if it takes 5 minutes, close Odin. If not, then Odin will unfreeze and the start button will be able to be clicked.
Click the button, sit back for 5-15 minutes, and let Odin work it's magic. Odin runs best if it is the only application running.
I have experienced when restoring from ROMs that sometimes the phone will not fully boot. if you are restoring from a ROM, go into Clockworkmod or TWRP, wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, and wipe system. Yes, wipe system. If you don't have CWM or TWRP, the try using the default recovery and wiping data and cache. If you don't know how to boot into recovery mode, hold the volume UP button, the POWER button, and the HOME button until you see blue text in the top right screen, then let go. when the text disappears, hold that button combo again until you see the android with an open chest. Then proceed to flash back to stock with Odin. This will ONLY work with Odin. I don't think it matters which version of Odin you use. You CANNOT install this straight from system recovery or Clockworkmod, or TWRP. I hope Sprint GS3 owners are happy with this. :3
I am in no way affiliated with Samsung. I am just providing a mirror for those of you stuck with really slow downloads because people want to make money with ads. I have played no part in making this software, i have not tampered or edited it in no way at all. This is literally stock Android 4.3 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. I also am providing the files for Odin and the Samsung drivers because people have trouble finding both of those files. they are not mine.
nice post and find but I've had this up for quite some time now lol
Oops sorry I never saw it when googling for the firmware yesterday or when looking through the forums.

Samsung Note 2 device bricked HELP!!!

Hello everyone, my wife phone imei was changed for no reason and can't use it. So I tried to flash a custom rom (I really don't remember the rom name). However phone stucked, we wait like 3 hour and installation bar not moved so I power off the note 2. Then its bricked
I read guides like 2 days and can't found a noob friendly guide. Device may go download mode and can use Odin but stock roms didnt do anything. Beside that I found many custom roms but cant use twrp. Can anyone help me about that, I'm really noob and need noob friendly guide. I hope I solve that ASAP.
The IMEI should not change on its own.
Did it change after an update, rom flash, or?

Beside that I tough I try the correct rom but nothing chaged, its stucked after Samsung logo.
I find Samsung phones are pretty fragile and don't survive very well after a drop. The internal memory could be damaged.
Try flashing the phone with a pit file, stock ROM, and Odin 3.07.

Odin 3.07 is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168421
Samsung USB drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
Try flashing the phone without the pit (partition information table) file. If you need a pit, search for a pit that matches the amount of memory in your phone. This is a thread with a 16 GB pit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653311
Here's what I recommend:
make sure the battery is charged;
download the latest stock ROM for your country, unzip it once (I use 7zip) and you will get a tar.md5 file;
open Odin and place the tar.md5 file into the PDA slot;
only check f reset time in Odin;
boot the phone into download mode;
connect the phone to a USB 2.0 port and a com port should appear in the Odin status window;
click on start to flash the phone;
hopefully, the flash will work and you will see the word "reset" in the status window;
remove USB cable from the phone;
remove the battery;
insert battery;
boot phone into recovery mode and perform a factory wipe.
If it still doesn't work, perform the above steps with a pit file.

Thank you so much, now phone works again but IMEI still broken. I think to many people have this imei(004999010640000). Do you know how to use my original IMEI back?
If you do not have a backup of the efs folder, you will need to visit a cell repair shop to have them inject the IMEI using another method like jtag.
