Sprint GS3 Stock 4.3 firmware here! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've managed to download a fully working 4.3 md5 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. I've uploaded it to Mediafire so you don't have to deal with slow download speeds. Took me 7 hours to download this from a different website. i hope you all enjoy PM me if the link gets taken down, and i'll re-upload it. This is Android 4.3 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. this firmware is to be flashed with Odin, (I've provided 3.07 on Mediafire as well) which you can download below, Samsung device drivers (Version 1.3.15.0000.0) are included as well, and the Stock 4.3 firmware in the link below. You will also need Winrar to extract and run Odin.
Samsung Drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/board/download.do?bdId=0000000700&attachId=0000000001
Sprint GS3 4.3 stock Firmware: https://www.mediafire.com/?nq2ugt0oo9tlj65
Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Note: this is NOT rooted and it DOES have knox.
For beginners with flashing firmware on Odin, after you download the S3 firmware, put your S3 into Download mode. If you have a USB jig like me, you plug that in. If not, while the device is turned off, hold the volume DOWN, POWER button, and HOME button.
Run Odin as an administrator, make sure the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes ARE checked, the click the PDA button, navigate to the place where you downloaded the firmware too, and click it. It will take a second to check the md5 file, Odin will freeze and not respond, so let it load. if it takes 5 minutes, close Odin. If not, then Odin will unfreeze and the start button will be able to be clicked.
Click the button, sit back for 5-15 minutes, and let Odin work it's magic. Odin runs best if it is the only application running.
I have experienced when restoring from ROMs that sometimes the phone will not fully boot. if you are restoring from a ROM, go into Clockworkmod or TWRP, wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, and wipe system. Yes, wipe system. If you don't have CWM or TWRP, the try using the default recovery and wiping data and cache. If you don't know how to boot into recovery mode, hold the volume UP button, the POWER button, and the HOME button until you see blue text in the top right screen, then let go. when the text disappears, hold that button combo again until you see the android with an open chest. Then proceed to flash back to stock with Odin. This will ONLY work with Odin. I don't think it matters which version of Odin you use. You CANNOT install this straight from system recovery or Clockworkmod, or TWRP. I hope Sprint GS3 owners are happy with this. :3
I am in no way affiliated with Samsung. I am just providing a mirror for those of you stuck with really slow downloads because people want to make money with ads. I have played no part in making this software, i have not tampered or edited it in no way at all. This is literally stock Android 4.3 for the Sprint Galaxy S3. I also am providing the files for Odin and the Samsung drivers because people have trouble finding both of those files. they are not mine.

nice post and find but I've had this up for quite some time now lol

Oops sorry I never saw it when googling for the firmware yesterday or when looking through the forums.

[Q] How to revert ATT Galaxy S3 to Stock ROM

I am a complete Android noob so pardon me beforehand. I have a rooted ATT Galaxy S3. I recently flashed 2 CM 10.1 nightly builds. I wasn't happy with the performance of the ROMs and want to reset my phone to stock rom ( default out of the box ICS Touchwiz UX). What ROM file do I need to download and what method to use to restore/flash (TWRP, Odin, etc.) I have read countless threads on this but still have not understood how to go about doing this, so don't blame me about spam. Thanks for all your help!

Preface: I take no responsibility for any actions you take or any resulting consequences. I am merely giving you information related to your question. If you choose to follow it, that is solely your decision.
Read all directions before taking any action.
First make sure you have ODIN which can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686
Then download your Original Stock System here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
Next install the Samsung Device Drivers to your computer if you don't already have them from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I747MBBATT
Once installed put your phone into Download mode (power off the phone, then press and hold Volume Down + Home and then Power while holding all 3 until you get to a warning screen. Release the buttons and press Volume Up to continue).
Plug the phone into the computer and open ODIN. Leave everything completely and entirely default. Press the PDA button and locate the .tar.md5 stock firmware you downloaded and press Start.
Your phone will restart and more than likely get stuck at the Samsung logo while booting. Hold the Volume Up + Power until the phone turns off (or do a battery pull). Go directly into Recovery (Volume Up + Home + Power) and choose to wipe cache and perform Factory Reset. Once done reboot the device and you will be completely 100% unrooted stock.
NOTE: This will not reset your flash counter. If you wish to go to complete fresh out of the box you will need to download Triangle Away and flash it on a stock rooted ROM. To do that you can either buy the app from the play store, recommended to support the developer, or download it from the developers thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Instead of flashing the ROM above flash the one located in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
and follow all the same steps above. This will give you rooted stock. Once done install the Triangle Away app as noted above and follow the directions.
Once completely done, go back into download mode, confirm the counter is 0 (blue text top left of screen) and proceed to follow all steps above to get to unrooted stock status.
P.S. Let me know if you have anymore questions. =)
P.S.S. The above links will flash 100% stock including Modem, ROM, Recovery and Kernel (among other stock items). It is a complete Stock Image as if you took it out of the box for the very first time. The only thing this will not do is restore NV Data or EFS folder if they were corrupted. NV Data / EFS folder contains your IMEI which allows you to connect to the network. If your IMEI shows 0, This will not help you.

He had said he wanted out of the box touchwiz, unfortunately if he flashes his nandroid it won't flash his original recovery / unroot / reset his counter.
However, if he doesn't mind the custom recovery / root (which is a good idea anyways to get rid of bloatware) then this method is absolutely recommended.

correct on both statements. i only suggested recovering his nandroid because he didnt mention unrooting and, honestly, i was afraid your reply might have made his head explode. haha. seriously, your post was awesome and spot on. with him being a self-admitted noob, i was hoping to get him back to stock firmware as simply as possible. at some point, if he wishes to fully unroot (either today via your posted methods or down the road), he'll hopefully do some reading up and get himself familiar with the procedures so he feels more comfortable with all the acronyms/terms/protocol.
cheers, RPelham. you always have great and knowledgeable responses on this forum.

Thanks! As do you!
To be honest, I was thinking my post may overwhelm the OP a bit, I tried to be as detailed as possible as to not miss any information and he could follow step by step. Your method is definitely much easier and will ultimately achieve the same goal. I always recommend keeping root/recovery as it adds so much more power and functionality to the phone without sacrificing the stock feel if that's that you prefer.
Any other link to download this? Devhost is giving me network error at 99%
Another method?
Hey guys, would I just be able to flash this official samsung zip file from their open source website?

Just wanted to say thanks RPellham. I had Rooted my AT&T LTE i747 Galaxy S3, and installed Clockwork Mod custom recovery. I have to say, i'm a level 3 IT guy for a large ad agency in NYC, and this was frustrating and took at least 4-5 hours. (a lot of that was download time however)
I used the same tool (the samsung galaxy s3 toolkit 7.0) That i had used to root and flash the custom recovery, to unroot and flash the stock recovery. This all seemed to go well, and i waited for the OTA update.
that took about 8 hours to download thanks to at&t's servers. (sigh) Then; this morning when i went to take a look, it had failed. So i found a thread with a kid who was nice enough to provide the update here in zip form, to use with the built in stock recovery.
I rebooted into stock recovery ~ and tried the update.zip. again, failed. Sigh.
at this point i go to this thread, (why i'm posting) and downloaded the entire stock image, and followed the instructions here, restored to stock with ODIN. At this point i then restarted in custom recovery again, and tried to apply the same zip, which worked this time.
I'm finally on stock 4.1.2 / multi window etc.
Just figured i would say thanks and share; in-case anyone else was in the same situation, and didn't know which way to go.
Please for the love of god, back up your IMEI info. I went from CM10.1 nightly to CM10.2 and lost my IMEI number. I was able to inject it but I wasn't able to get anymore than EDGE. I have to get a replacement

You download the stock tar and flash it with odin.
Upgrading rooted 4.1.1 to rooted 4.1.2
My i747 is rooted but otherwise stock 4.1.1. I received a notice that ATT wants to perform an OTA to 4.1.2. I told it to upgrade but when it reboots to start the upgrade the phone reboots into TWRP. If I get out of TWRP the system says the upgrade failed. Since the upgrade 4.1.2 file did download, I thought I could install it using TWRP but I don't know the upgrade file name or where it's stored on the phone. Can someone help me or am I dreaming that I cane use TWRP to upgrade from a rooted 4.1.1 to a rooted 4.1.2?

I had same issue as OP
I restored my backup (nandroid)
I am back on 4.1.1 (looks stock) still rooted. I am super noob.
My phone works perfect. It works exactly as a it did back in March 2013 (when I did my back up).
Problem is my phone wants to do OTA. Would that be a terrible idea to accept?

I tried to flash my SGH-I747M running 4.3 back to this stock ROM, but it just fails out. Specifically, it fails with:
aboot.mbn
NAN Write Start!!
FAIL! (Auth)
The reason I am going back is because when the device upgraded to 4.3 it brought with it KNOX, which blocks SuperSU.
Since my copy of SuperSU came over with Chainfire's CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip, I am unable to update it via Play Store (for the Knox fix).
So, that was my reason for wanting to regress.
I'm not sure what my options are now.

I am also a noob at this. I plan to bring my phone back in for a trade soon but ATT might not accept it in its current state. Will this guide fully restore it to the point where they can't tell the difference?
Once knox has been tripped, you can't change it back. AT&T may not check for this.

[Q] Samsung galaxy 3 stuck in on boot screen

Hi Guys,
Need your help.
My Samsung galaxy 3 is stuck on the boot screen. I cannot get into recovery mode but download mode works.
Some background info: The phone has never been rooted. It seemed to have slowed down a week ago . I had the screen replaced a month ago as it had cracked. I did experience some problems charging it 2 months back but a new battery and charger seemed to work.
I am not at all technical but will follow any straight forward instructions given by u guys.
My main goal is to get into my phone and its data. So please give suggestions which i can try which will still retain the data.
Many thanks 
If you can get download mode you can Odin flash the stock firmware. See my sig for links to everything you need, namely the firmware thread.

This guide will get your phone back up and running properly.
Easy and sure way to fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide:
Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file.
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
• Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
• Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
• Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
• Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
• Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
• You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
• Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
• Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
• Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
• TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
• If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
• Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
• Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
• You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
• Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
• (It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!
samsung galaxy 3 stuck on boot screen
Thanks for getting back to me. ~Sorry since I actually don't have a clue about all this technical stuff am just going to ask a couple of more silly questions.
so if I try this I should still have my data on the phone? i.e. contacts and pictures?
Misterjunky you said " Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin"
is that the same instruction "Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5"

Odin flashing the stock rooted firmware will not touch any of your music, pictures and video, it will wipe
wipe all the apps which you have installed, but it's easy to get all that back using the Play Store.
Your contacts will be restore automatically by google after you are done flashing and sign into your
gmail, just be sure that you have either the data turned on or turn the wifi on so google can restore
your contacts, then go to the play store and install whatever apps you had before.
and yes, download the firmware and unzip it to the same folder on your computer's desktop which contains Odin.
once the firmware is unzip it will have a TAR extension as it states in the step by step guide.
pit partican file missing - with odin flash
thanks for the last message.
Just tried your instructions but its failed . its saying pit partition is missing .. where can I find this file. am on t mobile in the uk.

SGH-I747 AT&T Softbricked Maybe Hard

Hi guys I just bought a SGH-I747 AT&T and the issue with it is it goes into Download mode just fine, works with Odin 3.7 loads a stock rom and then it sais reset but the phone doesn't reset just goes to black screen and then Odin sais Pass. I press the power button and Samsung appers and vibrates and goes back to black. When I try Recovery mode it show the blue writing on the left upper and the Samsung and then it goes to black screen. I put two different stock roms and same story. Kies won't recognize it and I installed recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-d2att.tar to try to get into recovery mode and of course no luck. Don't know the history on this, so if anyone could help I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

What firmware were you trying to flash via Odin and are you sure the seller didn't previously flash (or try to flash) the 4.3 on it? If it wasn't higher than 4.3, then you may try recovery via Kies as follows ....
Install and launch Samsung Kies on your PC (not Kies 3). Open the Tools menu and select Firmware Upgrade and Initialization
Do not connect your phone to your PC yet. Remove the battery cover and record device info written in the battery compartment
In Kies, enter your phone model (SGH-I747)
Enter the phone serial number and click OK to all the security questions. Follow all the instructions on Kies
Connect the phone when prompted and follow the rest of the instructions
Wait for firmware upgrade to complete
Good luck!
If this doesn't work, then you may try flashing the 4.1.1 stock image via Odin. Look for the correct stock image via the following thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
The one you want for Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T (4.1.1) is I747UCDLK3
PLEASE don't try any of the above if you were already on the 4.3 bootloader as things will only get worse.

I have already tried the I747UCDLK3 not from the link you gave me though. I did notice that the one you mentioned is a rooted stock do you think I should still do it? The rom flashes fine no errors in Odin but when it sais RESET the phone turns off the download mode and vibrates once then goes black then later Odin sais Pass but I cannot start it it just bootloops and vibrates and it stays that way As far as the Kies procedure you gave me don't I have to be in recovery mode for it to see the phone? I cannot get to that mode just download mode. Let me know thanks for your help

If you were successful in flashing via Odin, I would have suggested you try doing a hard wipe/reset in recovery. However, you said you can't get to recovery mode so this may not work. What happens when you try booting into recovery mode?
For Kies, you wouldn't have to be in recovery mode for the firmware restore to happen. Normally, you would have to connect your (powered-on) phone to your PC for it to be recognized by Kies. However, as you can't power on, we are forcing Kies to prepare the specific required firmware for your device by manually entering in the device information. Thus, when the phone is connected, you have firmware ready to make it work.
It may also be that the firmware you downloaded and flashed via Odin may not be the correct or full version. There are so many sources of "stock" firmware these days that one can never be too sure. You may go to Sammobile.com to download the stock firmware and compare the size of the extracted file to the one you used. The odin flashable tar.md5 file should be about 1.1Gb in size.

When I go in recovery it shows blue writing in left upper corner and Samsung logo and then black screen. I think I did use the Sammobile firmware at 1.1. My clock in download mode shows 6. I don't think that would affect it though. Could it be that Odin doesn't really write the firmware that's why flashing doesn't change anything? I don't think the jig would do anything maybe sending it for a jtag reflash is the trick.
I am lost for now. If you guys can think of anything new let me know and thanks again.

You didn't mention if you tried the Kies option. I had a similar problem once when upgrade to 4.1.1 via Kies failed during the process and that was how I was able to recover. However, since you bought this from the secondary market, there is no way of telling for certain what the previous owner did wrong which would have been useful for recovery options.
One of the nice things about Odin is that you usually know the results immediately. If it says Pass, therefore, that's likely what it means. So Odin did flash something. But what did it flash? The counter you saw in download mode shows how many custom system installations there have been and 6 does show there has been some previous heavy tinkering with the phone. As you are still able to get into download modes, I would suggest you try flashing custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) via Odin. If this works and you are able to get into recovery mode, you may then try doing a hard wipe/reset via recovery. You may also try flashing the other (rooted) 4.1.1 file via Odin. At this stage, you really have nothing to lose in trying all options. I guess if you can get into recovery mode, the problem is almost solved as this leaves plenty of options.
A jig wouldn't help as that only gets you to download mode which, for now, you don't have a problem with. JTag should always be a last resort option only. Let me know how far it goes and good luck!
When flashing in Odin, did you check auto reboot? If you did, try flashing again but uncheck auto-reboot. When you see Reset in the status windows, disconnect the USB cable, pull out the battery, wait a few seconds until the phone completely shuts down, put back in the battery, get into recovery, wipe cache, do a factory reset, and reboot.

This damn phone is starting to annoy me. I can still get into download mode but my phone gets usb device not recognized now. I have access to another I747 phone so my question is if I have access to the pit file from that phone can anything be done with the Debrick utility and a SD card with only download mode access? Thanks in advance.

Odin Mode
Product Name: SGH-I747
Custom Binary Downloads: Yes (6 Counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secure Boot: Enable
Green Android Icon Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!!
OK I plugged the USB in and out a few times and it allows to write every few tries. Back to my question can I do something in download mode if I have another i747 that I can copy stuff from? I also tried the suggestion to uncheck auto-reset pull the usb cable then the battery and try to go to recovery but it doesn't.Any suggestions are welcomed.
Try flashing a stock 4.1.1 rom from sammobile using Odin. Do not check auto reboot. When you see reset in the status window, disconnect the usb cable, pull the battery, replace the battery, boot into recovery, and wipe. I have done this numerous times on my i747m after flashing custom ROMs.

I will try it again I think I already did but when I put the battery back and click the Vol+ Home Power I get the blue writing and then black screen. Should I wait like 10 min on the black screen or it should be quick. Thanks
Keep holding the buttons until the blue writing disappears and the green android appears with the green progress bar.

Is there an unbrick.img for 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 I noticed that there are files for 4.3 that allow you to go in recovery and erase stuff reinstall. Let me know cause I sure couldn't find it.
If u can get it into download mode u are never ever hard bricked my friend...take it from a guy who had to dust off his old galaxy sll last weekend & still can't get into d/l mode on my s3 after a week & even with a jig lol

The unbricking image only helps you get into download mode from where you can work your way up the rest of the food chain. As you can already get into download mode without difficulties, I doubt if that's what you really need. You are also able to flash ROMs successfully in download mode via Odin so you've gone far up on the food chain already. Perhaps you are not doing the recovery thing correctly enough. Like Audit said, you need to continue holding down the Volume Up and Menu buttons whilst releasing the Power button after you see the first flash until the recovery menu appears and then do a hard wipe/reset.
Perhaps you could also try flashing TWRP via Odin if CWM isn't working.

I already tried holding the Home and Volume up buttons for 4-5 minutes at which point my fingers got a bit tired. The reason I wanted the unbrick.img is that I am now having issues with the computer recognizing the device in usb. I plugged and unplugged so many times that it no longer works that way so I wanted to do it via sd card. The unbrick.img gets you in recovery mode and download mode as it allows you to boot from the card not from the internal HD. But the only ones I have seen are for the 4.3 issues. And I tried It but did not put my device in recovery.

I couldn't find one either although you may be able to create yours using the command line posted in the thread below ...

You may also try using a jig to get back into download mode. Have you, however, considered exercising any buyer protection options you have on the phone since, it would appear, the guy sold you a lemon?

[Q] Broken screen - how to factory reset?

I have a Sprint Note 4 that supposedly had a custom ROM installed on but I believe the digitizer is broken. Nothing shows up on the display. I booted into DOWNLOAD MODE using Home Power and volume down and flashedN910PVPU1ANK2_N910PSPT1ANK2_SPR then N910PVPU1ANIE_N910PSPT1ANIE_SPR via ODIN It sounds like its stuck in a boot loop after both flashes, but ODIN says PASSED when it finishes. Since I can't access the screen, how can i get this flashed back to a stock rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm confused; why flash two stock tars? Did you let the phone boot after flashing the first stock tar?
I'd suggest a factory reset in recovery, power down, Odin the factory tar of your choice and let it auto boot. You should see the phone boot into into recovery briefly on the auto boot when flashing stock tar in Odin, then fully boot. If not seeing the brief recovery, start over and try again.
I recall a YouTube video on a digitizer issue that may have been resolved. The guy had a dead spot on the digitizer. I think it only suggests a possible fix in a follow-up video the user posted. But maybe the stock tar will fix it.
why flash two stock tars?
After flashing the the first one, it just kept rebooting. That was last night. Today I flashed the older one. I'm trying install ADB on my Windows 7 desktop to enter recovery.
So you can't do power down, volume up, home plus power to get to recovery?
The stock kernel won't allow adb access; permission denied when booted. Haven't tried adb on a boot loop; don't know if it lets you in or not.
Did you check the md5 for match prior to Odin? Maybe bad download?
Have you tried Odin without the sdcard installed. Bad user data or root directory data bad?
You could Odin the TWRP tar recovery and wipe everything but recovery and boot partition. Then Odin the stock tar after a power down.
Be careful not to select repartition during Odin. There was a PIT file posted but AFAIK, no one has shared a successful experience using the repartition with PIT file. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong and post a link to correct PIT file to use. Please.

I tried without SD card and I didn't check repartition in ODIN. The md5 matched on both.
Did you try the suggestion of using TWRP to wipe partitions prior to stock tar? Look next to last paragraph of previous post.
Only other advice I can think of ATM is that the stock tars are so large, it takes a few moments to verify once selected. I leave my phone USB disconnected until Odin has verified the tar selected. Then I plug the USB and make sure I have the COM pop-up prior to start. If not, disconnect and reconnect the USB until COM is displayed. Not sure but I think there were some posters that didn't really flash the stock tar in Odin.

How can I use TWRP without the screen?
thanks
Sorry but I got focused on the boot loop issue and lost focus on the screen issue.
No screen has me wondering how you know you're in download mode to flash Odin tar?
Starting over, I've never used kies but there was a similar problem in this thread I found with Google.

So you pulled the battery, pressed and held volume down, home and power buttons until it vibrated, waited to make sure it wasn't just booting, when satisfied, you pressed volume up; right?
I'd say that is a sufficient feel.
If the Odin or kies update won't take and screen is dead; with no adb access, who would know what's on the phone unless it's just not playing the right boot tone when it keeps rebooting? Problem?
I think that may be enough to take your phone back to point of sale and ask for replacement without worrying about root voiding warranty?
Did you try the Kies update?
I am familiar with the Note 3, thats how I was able to get it into Download mode by feel. I tried KIES and it said that my device is not supported. Im using the latest version of KIES. I know I'm running into an issue with the usb driver recognizing...Im on Windows 10 technical preview. thinking about trying it on an old Win7 laptop.. thanks for the advice

[Q] device hangs in black boot screen after ...

I screwed up my SPH-D710 big time (see details here ...). I am starting a new question thread here as this doesn't have anything to do with the device constantly booting anymore.
I have now manged to get the device into a state, that it doesn't boot anymore, neither regular nor into recovery, but hangs in the black boots screen that says "Samsung Galaxy S II" in white letters.
I can still boot into Odin mode though - and I hope that's a good thing.
Last thing I put onto the device (also mentioned in the other thread) was Garwynn's SXTP+Agat Recovery kernel v0.3.0 from Rwilco12's repository.
Can I still save the device and how.
I really want some expert advice before I do the next step ...
Thanks in advance!
OK, so my device is officially bricked. I think I can still get into Odin mode (if I find a charged battery, as mine drained / didn't charge any more in the mean time).
In case I find a charged battery and can still get into ODIN mode, I want to try a [rooted] stock ROM - does it matter which one?
Eventually I want to load CM11.
Thanks.
Please follow these directions to return to stock latest rooted.
Download these files and place them onto your desktop named EpicStockRooted.
Choose between whether you want Data wiped, or not.
GB27 Rooted Data Wipe
GB27 No Data Wipe
Samsung Drivers
Make sure Samsung Kies, or other versions of Samsung Drivers are uninstalled first. Then install the Samsung Drivers.
Once you're finished start the executable GB27 file as administrator mode and wait for it to load. Once you're done, proceed to put the device into download mode. Hold Volume Down + Power button until you're on a Android Firmware dialogue with the green android, press volume up to proceed to the next screen.
Now plug in the device to the computer ( USB 2.0, original samsung usb to micro plug ) and let the device be recognized. you'll see a [COM:##] show up within the first white box, doesn't matter about the ##, as long as it's reading [COM:]
Proceed to click START! and wait for it to be finished, appx ~15 minutes to do so.
Once done the device should auto-reboot. Let it load up.
Setup your device and proceed to the home screen of the launcher, SuperSU will force close on you, don't worry about that, press YES and setup your Google Account for Play Store.
Update SuperSU via playstore, then install as /system app in SuperSU, you're done setting up now.
You're issue was installing a custom kernel for the wrong type of Android version for your ROM.
The latest Custom Kernel for Jellybean GB27 is Agat's Source version 1.4.2f. Use Odin 3.07, within PDA slot to flash the custom kernel. But make sure you're fully loaded on stock first.
If you happen to think about loading CM11, Please feel free to see this post HERE
Thank you very much Spark!
That's pretty much what I did after some heavy research here on this - very helpful - forum.
I downloaded and installed a rooted one-click GB27 and am back up and running - learned a lot from that experience.
Thanks also for explaining what I did wrong.
I am now in the process of downloading the necessary stuff for going to CM11.
I installed Mobile Odin (Lite) and am putting EL26 CWM recovery (StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5), an ICS modem (FL24.zip), gapps and CM11 (I will start with the stable milestone version from here, and then maybe try the latest nightly, if success ...) on my sdcard.
I read (and read again ...) this post on the "one Stop FAQ for Noobs" thread and hope that I won't run into any issues.
Thanks again!
You're welcome, it's all about trial and errors here, People can read and read but most posts around here do get confusing on what you should do and it is A LOT of reading. But once you get used to it, you'll be up to speed on what to do from there on.
I managed to get the device to CM11 and everything is working.
I followed the instructions in the "One Stop ... for Noobs" thread and the OP in the CM one. The only hickup that I had was that the EL26 recovery kernel only has CWM5 and one obviously needs CWM6 (probably in order to flash a KitKat ROM ... (?)), so I had to find a CMW6 recovery that I could flash with CWM5.
