I want to get the new SGS II, but I owned the original SGS 4G, and I was disappointed with the lack of rom's. Do you think that this device will have CM9?
Thanks,

I feel ya, I just upgraded about two weeks ago, was thinking about the Amaze 4g, but ending up picking the SGS2. I like it so far, but as a owner of the Legendary HD2, the development here is slow, but I'm sure it'll pick up.
It sure will one day.I just ditch my Amaze for the SGS2 and i dont regret a thing.Best phone I ever had after my EVO.

Damn, glad I didn't pick the Amaze then, my wife has the Sensation, running ICS of course, and she loves it, but I've been all HTC since the TMobile Wing, so I needed a change.
How do you feel about the phone, in terms of build quality, does it feel cheap?

Not at all. It feels good, not as heavy as my HD2, good build quality, I was kinda surprise, because most people bash Samsung build and materials, but this is nice. Now the materials are not of HTC quality, but very very serviceable. Plus mine is white so it 'POPS' anyway. I also have the Body Glove D30 case which adds the weight I miss from my HD2. Overall I'm quite please.
After getting over the initial learning curve, I like my GS2 better in every way than my old, beloved HD2, with one exception: the flash LED is nowhere near as bright as the dual LEDs on the the HD2. So I no longer can (literally) stun people with the flashlight (I actually successfully fended off a skunk with the HD2 flashlight!), but otherwise it's a clean sweep in favor of the Samsung. Better screen, better performance, not as heavy in my pocket, etc. I'm running Juggernaut 5.0, btw.

th phone is very light. it doesnt feel cheap. its just right in your hands. s2 ftw
HTC just uses heavier parts and cases to make it seem like it has superior build quality when it in fact is quite the opposite. That's another story for now, but there is absolutely no problems with this phone.
Development will pick up as soon as this phone gets updated to ICS, in which CM9 will casually piggy back off the main release. Expect a boom in development once ICS drops for us...

No phone will ever get the HD2 type of development not even a Nexus Device. The only device I see getting the type of development is the HP touchpad.

I know right, the HD2 was and still is simply amazing, still have it now, running MIUI ICS.
I had always been an HTC owner since the Mytouch 3g days. I had heard a few bad things regarding Samsung, so I was hesitant to buy my first one. When the Amaze was first rumored, I really wanted to get it. Seemed like the best T-mobile phone at the time and a nice upgrade from my MT4G. The lack of unlocked bootloaders for HTC really bummed me out. The first day the SGS2 was released, I was there. I payed full price if you can believe it. This is by far the best android smartphone I have ever owned. I had to return my original about a month ago because the earpiece sounded like crap. I ended up getting a brand new white SGS2. I have grown to like the white and I hear it is "limited edition " now. I have the old black back cover on the white body, looks pretty dope. This phone is the best phone out period! Forget the Galaxy Nexus, this phone is an overclocked BEAST!

I was very interested in what the Motorola photon till the guy at Sprint HIGHLY reccomended the SGII Epic 4G Touch. Told me about all the features of guild phone which caught my attention. I also watched a 14 min vid from wirefly smackdown on the photon vs epic 4G touch.
One thing I was concerned about was the resolution being lower. Also rather like the kickstand idea from the EVO, but saw there was cases that have kickstands for the epic 4G touch. I'm asking from people who have owned the phone for a while, is it a good choice to get or should I stick to getting the photon?

Best phone I've had. The only rant is the LoS every now and then. I prefer the smaller resolution because it's just easier. Bigger icons are better (at least for myself).
I messed with the Photon and it's a nice phone, but something that kept me far away from it was the lack of development.
I came from a Motorola atrix from att and I can say I missed Samsung. Phonton isn't a good the ept4g screen is amazing. Battery is OK better stuff is yet to come. Join us get the Epic 4g touch

Like you, I considered both and haven't regretted my decision to go with the ET4G. The screen is amazing. The phone is faster than anything I've used. I doubt you'll regret it.

Had the Photon for a month and have had the Epic 4G Touch for a month. While the Photon is an excellent phone it has serious issues with random rebooting and no audio on calls. It seems for for unexplained reasons the software just goes haywire and you have to do a battery pull. Some Best Buys reported 100% return rate when the phone first came out due to issue with no audio and rebooting. The radio is very strong, much better than the Sammy. The UI is not very good, you will need to switch to LauncherPro to make it acceptable. Thicker and heavier that the Sammy. Neither are great with the battery due to the nature of Android. As for the Epic 4 G Touch the radio is weaker. While people report loss of signal I have never had it. Very slim and lighter. Great all around phone with no issues on the calls. Like everything about it.
My suggestion would be the Epic 4 G Touch.
The SGS2 is a beast! I think you can't go wrong with either phone but I would say Sammy all the way. The screen blows away the qhd display of the EVO 3d I owned so I wouldn't be concerned about the resolution.
I know the a lot of people also like the Photon but I have not used it nor have any intention of even looking at it.
When it comes to tv and computer monitors I am an HD snob. I simply want the highest screen resolutions. Naturally I shopped around for a new phone using the same mindset. That was until I experienced the Super Amoled Plus screen. I finally realized how much of an impact contrast ratio is to the clarity of the screen. Deep blacks make every color on the screen pop. I watch Netflix on my phone in bed and I am blown away at the quality of the picture.
So in my opinion if you are trying to make resolution of the screen your deal breaker, you should go and spend some time with both phones and see for yourself.
Plus our phone simply have the fastest processor on the market. Without hardware acceleration my phone still don't experience any lag. Now with ICS coming out and hardware acceleration on just imagine how much more smoother our phone will be.
I'm an IT Manager for my company, our help desk gets more calls about Motorola Droids then anything else. I will never own a Motorola Android. I will admit the new Razor is tempting. For myself, I like Android but I think it is a little to complicated for the average corporate user. They just want something quick, easy and that works.
FYI, we get the least amount of calls over Iphones. I'm tempted to make the Iphone our officially supported phone. I don't think I want to get into Android or WP7 polices.

What is your company's officially supported phone now?
My answer to the question, plus my Android history for some perspective.
I had the Photon briefly, exchanged for the Epic4GT and would never go back to the Photon.
-First Android was Sprint Hero. Was almost immediately outdated, but I liked it.
-This Aug was time for upgrade, Photon had just come out, didnt like how it looked, got the EVO4G. Really liked it compared to the outdated Hero, but the thing was HUGE, heavy, and battery didn't last long. The camera was 100000x better than the Hero.
-2 weeks later, after reading a couple reviews, (and hating the bulk of the EVO), exchanged it for the Photon. Immediately hated it. Hated the display - "artificial" is the only word I can think to describe it. The camera is horrible - about the same as my original Hero. I also really hated the UI.
Then the GSII was announced for Sprint. I held onto the Photon - hating every second of it - and the very last day of my 30day return policy was the drop day for the E4GT. Got it. LOVE it.
The size is perfect. Biggest screen out there (kinda), but the phone doesn't feel too big. It's not a BRICK like the EVO. It's thin and light. And the display size is great. Odd looking at a tiny iPhone display after this. Display quality is amazing. The camera is at the top - rating about even or better than the best out there. Battery has great life.
Not only is the E4GT the best phone at SPRINT right now, it's hard to beat it anywhere. For now. That all changes quick. But if you need to buy a phone right now, and you want the best from Sprint the Epic4GT is it.
(Sorry for a long first post, but this is a topic I just lived through.)

I'm still on the fence about getting the ET4G. I keep reading about LOS this and poor wi-fi signal that. Coming from an OG Epic some here can understand my apprehension, I would like to see if an update by the end of the year will come through. My ultimate plan is to pick one up through Craigslist just to hold on to my upgrade because I'm holding on to hope that Sprint gets the Nexus early next year.
I have an Epic 4G Touch that has not been rooted yet and I am yet to get an los on it. No issues with wifi or anything else for that matter.
Can keep 4G on all day while at work with about 1.5 hours of on screen time after 9 hours and come home with over 50% battery left. Compared to the EVO 4g and 3d, that is pretty damn impressive!

No prob - hope it helped. As for the case, I have the Carbon Fiber texture Kickstand Cover from Sprint, and I think it's great. I've never liked hard cases before this - always too much bulk. I've always gotten silicone cases, which I have liked a lot for drop protection, but they gather a lot of dust. This case adds minimal bulk and looks great. People cant believe how small/thin the phone is, and that's before they realize it's in a case. Take it out and they are even more amazed. Took pics, will post soon.

I've read so much about this, but haven't experienced either problem. I was even going to jump on board the Sprint refund/credit bandwagon, just because I'm sure I could get away with it, but I haven't had the problem, so I'm not going to. I had had about 4 random reboots in the month I've had it, but it hasn't been a problem. (I just heard it rebooting in the other room.)

The reboot could be caused by an app you are running. Are you running Juicy Defender or something like that? I know that has been an app that causes reboots.

i could get a like new G2X for 350 with an extended 1980 battery for $350
or a brand new galaxy nexus for 650 + tax
what would you guys get?
i really want the galaxy nexus but theres some things i don't like about it like no gorilla glass and the speakers not that loud, but theres major pluses but ill be basically paying twice as much than the g2x
what should i do so confused
I wouldn't touch an LG phone. Ick.
Speakers: Volume+ and set it to +8.... Volume fixed.
Gorilla Glass: meh. it has some kind of protection on the glass, unsure whats the name but keys dont scratch it apparently.
Long term speaking. Galaxy Nexus will be a good development device.

And that's why you're using a Sidekick 4G right?
Stock Android experience + updates directly from Google is the best way to go to. Not to mention the amazing display that Samsung always offers. People always complain about Samsung phones are all plasticy.
Its plastic but it's built very durable and can survive falls a lot better than these other phones. It's also lighter, vivid and vibrant display that will make you be impressed in a heartbeat.
I really hope this was a trick question. If i were you i will not EVEN look/touch/think about the G2x. All i will tell you is do your research on that phone. In fact i will say get the Sensation/GII. Even if someone gives me a G2x right now i will not even touch it. So if getting the remaining dollar to get the GN is an issue then get then seriously look at the Sensation OR GII.
PS: in the long run you will want the GN.
Yeah fool. I have SEVERAL phones!

No ones a fanboy. We just simply love the "Pure Google Experience." I'll be honest about being a fanboy about Samsung's displays, they're gorgeous
It all depends on the person. If you're the person that wants the latest and newest version of Android. Galaxy Nexus will do you well, you can counter-argue this by talking about custom ROMs and all that. But you know what? it's up to the manufacturer of the phone to provide a 3.X.X version of the kernel. Without that, you are limiting development for that particular phone.

All i can say is WOW you don't know what you are talking about. G2X is way closer to a GOOGLE ANDROID experience. I can't even beleive i am sticking up for LG anything except that the new mytouch is awesome even tho all thoughts were a bit scary, turned out to be a very nice device. After 2 updates on G2X i have not been able to freeze it up since. I give up. By what he says then if your in phoenix i'll gladly override your restock so you can get something other than touchwiz.

I'd say if your keeping it for awhile GN. I wanted my Atrix for the hardware, knowing software is going to be replaced ... multiple times ... a week. I wanted to play with webtop, fingerprint scanner, etc. Now I have BU of ROM w/Linux & Chrome for the lapdock days, CM7 reading my fingerprints, and miui which I'm running now. The only thing that catches my eye is the GN ONLY because of the Nexus part. It's a personal choice. I wouldn't really wanna touch Samsung with LG's d!ck. Hardware means HTC or Motorola for me. I keep my phones and though they're both great beasts, there's only one button - less beast

I agree with you on the nexus part. HTC owns, but the nexus line only exist's because samsung holds out. I really do not prefer either option but based on what i have tested the answer is G2X even tho it was a nightmare before gingerbread, the phone is solid now. Add CM to it and wow!

Feel free to use this thread for general discussion related to the Rogers Galaxy Nexus
I've just HUP'd to a Galaxy Nexus, pretty excited to get it in the mail this week. I'm coming from an iPhone 4s.. I've been a die hard Apple fan but I did try some gingerbread phones before and didn't mind it, just had lots of touch screen issues/texting issues (timestamps) and found it to be a hassle.
Anyone else move from an iPhone 4s and want to share an opinion?

I think my main issue though was the grid of icons, using iOS for so long I just started to absolutely HATE it. When they included Notification Center I was happy, but I realized I never even used it like I did when I had my Infuse, because it didn't feel like a real part of the OS... just a place to go to clear notifications, not SEE them and interact with them.
It is honestly the best phone I have ever seen, everything is great on it. The quality and size of the phone makes the iPhone look like a toy in my opinion. Also ICS gives Android the polish that's its needed in looks and performance.

FYI you really should wait a week when their new upgrade policy goes into effect which means you actually pay what you owe not an over inflated amount when you upgrade
And i'm going from a iP4 to a Nexus as soon as i find a best buy with one in stock
I'm considering getting the Galaxy Nexus as well. I just sold my iPhone4. I hardly ever used it as a phone. Just for music and to play Angry Birds. Sooooo happy I sold my iPhone4! My main device is BlackBerry, but I have 2 lines. I have the HTC Amaze on my second line now. I love the Amaze but it's too heavy for me to carry both devices. There's only so many purses a girl could buy! I was messing around with the Galaxy Nexus this weekend and it's a pretty sleek device. I thought about getting the Samsung Galaxy SII because of the Exynos CPU, but I need a notification led light. BlackBerry spoiled me in that department. Besides the Galaxy Nexus, any other device I should consider? I need something that is light, thin and fast.

If your coming from an iPhone 4/4s like myself, Android is really the only way to go. Your other options would be Windows Phone 7 (in Canada we have lame WP7 devices and it's microsoft lol) or Blackberry with RIM falling apart.

I guess you didn't fully read my post. My main device is a BlackBerry and that won't change anytime soon. I have the HTC Amaze on my second line but it's a heavy device so I'm looking for a thinner, lighter Android. I only used the iPhone4 as a phone for maybe a month and that was last summer. I don't care for the iPhone. No offense to iPhone users. It does nothing for me. I agree the WP7 are lame in Canada. I think Telus is picking up the Nokia Lumia 800. I love Nokia, but not sure about WP7 though.

I tried a HTC Evo 3D and was just appalled by the sense skin and the way the screen looked, just terrible. Is the Amaze any better?

I had the HTC EVO 3D 3 times....yes 3 times, LOL, the battery door drove me nuts. But it wasn't just that, it was laggy and whenever I talked on the phone, everyone said I sound like I'm talking through a tunnel. The Amaze is AMAZING! It's A LOT better than the EVO 3D. The Amaze is faster, call quality is much better, build quality more solid, screen looks better even though they both have the same res. and the speaker is much louder. The speaker on the EVO 3D was low and tin like. Overall I am very happy with the Amaze.
Now I just need a 2nd Android.
has anyone been able to get mms working? I tried adding an mms apn I found online but no luck.. I've also had a few text messages fail to go through.

So why bother with a Nexus if you're happy with your Amaze?

I have to carry 2 devices with me now and the Amaze is too heavy in my purse. The Galaxy Nexus is much lighter and also thinner. It makes a difference.
For the sake of science, please check what baseband your phone has and if it exists already available in the radio-thread.

Is it your Fav phone?
mine by far
Tell us why its your favorite or why its not
I don't mean any offense by this, but I think this Thread does not really belong in the Q&A section.
While it is a question if all of us think, whether this is the most awesome phone since the invention of cans and a string, it is not one that can be definitively answered.
So this would belong in the general section. This section - as I understand it - is for folks who have trouble with their device and seek advice or help.
actually it was meant for "Off-Topic" i do not know how it ended here =0
Not my FAVOURITE phone ever, simply because I waited so long for it and then it came with so many issues (for me). Dodgy loose z-hinge which causes the two halves of the phone not to stay tight shut (mine is still buffered with layers of electrical tape in between to stop the annoying tapping when one half hits the other when typing on the screen), poor screen in sunlight, really poor speaker, 4 row keyboard instead of 5. These are the things that made me unhappy when I got it, but with little else to choose from (Android qwerty-wise) I had little option but to get used to it.
I think my favourite phone ever has to be my G1, simply because it was on a completely different level to what I had been using previously (Nokia smartphones like the N85 and N73). Yeah, sure it didn't really have the hardware needed (especially towards the end of it's life) but I LOVED that phone like a child :-D
The G2/DZ is a pretty decent phone, but was not groundbreaking in any way, shape or form. The development scene for it is just as good as I remember the G1's being, which is a plus - and ultimately that, and the fact there are still no better qwertys in the UK, is the only reason I'm still using this thing.
I love it because I got in love with it in March, and wanted to get it with a budget of just 250€ euros... No used ones weren't fake, so I got a Nexus One, great phone, and I decided to keep it thinking it was better of my beloved DZ, than in August Desire Z was 240€ new and sold my nexus one to get it. Now I love it, every single thing but the back cover which is already damaged. I like HTC assistance: they sent me a courier (is it right?) beacause I lived 20km far from the collection point and then in one working week I had it back repaired... (now on the other side they're asking me to go to the colelction point to get a new usb cable, which is 10€ and I should take 10 euros of train to get there..).
But as for the phone itself it just lacks a better GPU and a bit more of battery... Oh yes, it should be at least two metres thicker and five tons lighter
but I love it!

yEAH g2 is an amazing device!
When I look at all the new phones without hard keys or trackpads, I don't know what I'll find to replace my G2. I just have to get a handle on my battery drain issues then I can get another two years from it. I still miss the g1 keyboard sometimes, but the g2 is better in so many ways.
It is.

great phones =)
Its actually the only phone I loved that hasnt broken on me yet had it for almost a full year now and it still runs great. Dropped it plenty of times on the ground and it only has a few scratches & dents. Z-hinges aren't really bothersome and really isnt that loose, it makes the phone fun to flip and play around with actually! I really cant see a new phone w/o a qwerty board. Lets hope we get to see at least some this year.
I honestly dont know if there is another phone out there for me to update to! So I see myself with the g2 for a looooong time! And I would have never updated to it if it wasnt for the H+ speeds!
G1 in honesty has the best hand placement/keyboard feel!
Another plus was it was Black too!!
Have had it for more than a year and was my first smart phone. For me the only other device that competes is mytouch 4g slide simply because I can't live without keyboard but imo this has a far better look and feel than the 4g

It's my favorite phone, but it only became so after rooting it. IMO Sense is a bulky solution for dummy proofing a phone. When I rooted and got rid of the bloat I started loving it more and more.
I had a Desire before I went to the G2. I had to find out the expensive way that a touchscreen only phone just doesn't work for me
I had the g1 before this, and a few sidekicks before that. I've been hooked on keyboard phones since around 2006. Being a t-mobile customer, I am bound to what they provide so physical keyboards have become somewhat of a necessary thing for me when shopping for a phone. The g2 came as quite a surprise really. It's nearly 2 years old now and with a little tweaking, it's still preforming as well as a lot of todays (stock) high end devices. Bravo htc.
I'm looking forward to future physical keyboard devices.
This phone sure is a great product.
Nice collection of roms to choose from, and gotta love the keyboard.
First phone with physical QWERTY to me, and I won't buy a phone without it again.
This does need some tweaking (custom rom & overclocking) to be fast enough for daily use - but it's very easy thing to do.
This is my second Android-phone.
Hey guys, i just order a pair of GNs for myself and so, though im now having buyers remorse.
I love the look of the nexus, though i just feel as i mad a bad decision and should of gone with the Note, S2, htc one S, or even the X.
for one, it will most likely have the best deveolper support and nothing rivals vanilla ics

Oh well, in that case, no.
My wife loves hers.
That said there is always remorse in buying a 5 month old device. It is a dinosaur in tech terms; even if the software is cutting edge.
I would say take it back and get the phone you want.
The GN is a great device. The developer support is great if you wish to try all kinds of amazing ROMS. But even if you don't, the GN is a great stock. I love not having to hack my device to remove all the bloat. Just stock ICS. But as someone else said, its about 5 months old. Something to remember. Devices will always come out. But I am not sure if I would buy it today. Not with the HTC One X out (import). And the Galaxy S 3 is more than likely going to be a device worth upgrading for. In short, its up to you.

I came from the sgs2 and I can honestly say this phone is far superior. I havent tried the one s yet so I cant speak for that.

I for one came from the MyTouch 4G slide, and couldn't he happier.
The developer support on that phone is pretty much dead, and I actually got used to have no physical keyboard really fast.
This phone is fast, gorgeous, and its so relieving not having to worry about crap like Sense, or Blur from my previous phone the Motorola Cliq.
Sense 4.0 looks nice, but vanilla ICS is so much more beautiful without the extra bloat.
As for the hardware, I want a phone that can do everything a phone should, with a bit of extra fun, and this does just that.
Running games at ~50FPS is great, I don't see why I need a quad core phone to have them run at ~60FPS, at the risk of more battery consumption for little significant gain. There is no future proofing since a year down the line you will switch again; and by that time, your phone will still be just as powerful.
Hell, the G1 is still a great phone if you use it as one.

sounds like you dont know what you want and will probably feel the same with any of those phones.
Early May could very well be the announcement of the Galaxy S XXX super duper HD and I'd still not care. If it's not a GSM Nexus, it's not for me, because of the myriad of reasons already covered in this forum.

Spec wise, the HTC One X kinda beats the Nexus but isn't as fast in real use because of Sense 4.0. The only phone to beat the Nexus will be the Galaxy S3, but that usually will become the basis for the next Nexus anyway, so you just have to choose which cycle to get on, the Nexus Cycle or the Galaxy S Cycle. Stock Google and latest Firmware make the Nexus Cycle a no-brainer. I just hope you got a deal on the Nexus(s) because they are dirt cheap now (~$450)
I enjoy AOSP and the ease of modding with this device. Sure there might be other devices coming out w/ newer tech, but I don't think I can stand skins anymore. Even de-sensed and de-blurred don't cut it anymore.
I always get buyers remorse so can't really help you there. All I can say is that I wish i'd waited for SGS3 because if it's anything like the SGS2, which blows the nexus out of the water in every way but the screen, then I will be having a very very bad case of buyers remorse on 3rd May lol.
As for helping with your buyers remorse, if you like the look and feel of the phone, and can live with some minor flaws like the odd bit of lag, you will be ok with this phone.

$429 NIB + 2 years warranty shipped(each), so it was a pretty good deal.
I like what you're saying and i think that will be my plan of attack and just upgrade every nexus release, even if i had waited for the GS3 i wouldn't of been able to pick 2 of them up, I'm guessing they are going to be $800-$900.
Well thanks guys i feel a little better, im using a desire Z at the moment so it should be a big leap.

I don't think you'll have remorse. You're getting a great package, great price and updating to 4.0.4 will be awesome. And if you're a tinkerer it can only get better. Just think, a lot of us paid over $700 and don't regret it at all, even with the small problems we've had. And if you're already on xda, free tech support. Notice I said tech support and not noob support.

+1. I've had the Desire and Desire HD before getting the GN and I must say every phone I've come across with Sense on it has been so poorly coded that it's had FPS issues just swiping from homescreen to homescreen.
The HTC One without Sense will best the GN hands down when stripped of Sense but I can't help but think (despite not having used one) that it will still struggle to run at a fluid ~59fps with Sense on it.
The Galaxy Nexus like all Nexus phones is a reference phone, Android as Google intended without all the extra manufacturers add to it (ie Sense, Touchwiz, Motoblur, etc.) which some people may actually like. If you like Sense then a HTC One might be the way to go for you.
My biggest thing with Android phones is developer support. I personally am coming from a HTC Thunderbolt, which at the time was great, a ton of developers, ROMS, MODS....life was nice. Then, the Nexus came out, and within a month about 75% of the developers had jumped ship, updates were slow, and it just wasn't fun anymore.
So that said here is my list of things I look for when buying a new phone
1. Good Developer Support (Pretty much guaranteed for Nexus phones)
2. Style, Build, and Accessories (I would say HTC usually takes this, but Sammy is catching up)
3. Newness of Technology (You don't want a phone that is still using 2 year old tech. However, the newest tech is not the best bet either, since this creates issues with developers being able to take advantage of the latest and greatest in their ROMS. The thunderbolt was a perfect example, it was the first with 4G LTE, which was a nightmare for developers to get the ROMS working right. Till this day CM7 is still not an official build on the Thunderbolt.
4. Resale Value - Lets be honest you do not have an Apple Device which gets good resale prices due to its limited lineup. However, Nexus phones often keep better resale then their counterparts just due to the fact it is a Nexus phone. I usually trade up every year, sell the old one with its accessories for about 300 and use it to buy the next one. This allows you to get the latest and greatest every year, for about the same price of an upgrade or cheaper.
I'd buy the GN in a heartbeat at prices now... ~$440 unlocked.
This device feels way more solid than the Galaxy S2 that my SO has.
