I know at least two of us here have this problem. With me it happens nearly every other reboot, when I boot to recovery or when I boot the phone. It just sticks at white HTC screen forever and I have to pull the battery.
It is more of an anoyyance than anything however I suppose it could be dangerous if it happened during radio update. Anyone else have the problem or some insight into what causes it?
I know mine started doing it before I even flashed a permanent recovery so that's not the problem.
Thanks.

I had this problem, but only on vanilla FroYo roms. It annoyed me and stopped a friend from getting one (even after a lengthy conversation about it being me rooting and the rom) but on sense no such problems.
Now on CM6 and I don't get the problem. So I myself have narrowed it down to vanilla FroYo.

I'm on cm6 and get it all the time. Had it on defrost too.
I'm using LeeDroids v1.3a sense Rom and I've never had a hang. To be honest I've never had froyo run this smoothly on any other Rom before. I've rebooted about 10 times and its fast and swift, with no hangs.

Defrost was the worst due it with me. Every other boot (if I was lucky!) would end up in a boot loop.

i think its to do with your ext not mounting so then it hangs. I had this issue on OD 1.6 and AdamG's Sense but it got sorted when I used Defrost's a2sd script.
Is there some sort of log i can pull to see what is going wrong when it hangs?
Any ideas on how to diagnose what is going wrong on boot?
I don't know if I understand what is the real problem, i'm spanish.
I understand that some ROM's are not booting well doing a bootloop. With my Desire I haven't got this issue but on my cousin Desire this problem occured with a ROM that are working well for me with same conditions and tested also with same SD card.
I try this:
Apply the PB99IMG.zip based on 1.23 from Virgin Mobile and working correctly.
Wipe from recovery, and bootloop.
Apply again de PB99IMG.zip
Flash a rooted version of this ROM without wipe, device boot well and its rooted.
I try to flash the MDC r5 Froyo with Sense and same problem ocurre but can't boot with or without wipe.
Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster....unfortunately....
So after sitting on MIUI for a good while, and having a blast with it, I decided to try out some other ROMs. I was interested in seeing Cyanogen 6, and so I went about attempting to get the latest stable, non RC ROM onto my EVO. I read into it seeing that I needed to downgrade my hboot, and found the image without a problem (running the .76 right now, had the 9something one before...)
Well, I downgraded my hboot without an issue, flashed the Cyanogen, and got into a splashloop. I figured out it was becaue I hadn't wiped my cache or data before flashing the rom, so I went into the Clockwork Recovery and wiped those, flashed once more, and it booted into Cyanogen perfectly!
Well, almost. I don't have 3G now.
For some reason, I am unable to connect to 3G no matter what I try. My nandroid's broke due to the hboot downgrading, rewiping the cache/data and reflashing cyanogen did nothing, and now for some reason, when I attempt to go back to MIUI, it still will not allow me to connect to 3G. I can send and receive texts, and make and receive calls, but alas, no data connection.
Should I get a fresh RUU and stock hboot, upgrade and restart from scratch? I just want to get back to MIUI at this point with a working, data enabled phone.....
If that's the case, that I do need to start over, where can I find a new hboot for the EVO that isn't .76? I'm pretty saavy when it comes to this stuff, but for some reason right now I just can't figure it out....
HTC EVO running MIUI v0.11 stable
.76 hboot w/ Clockwork recovery
Broken nand backup
whatdo?
Thanks in advance for the help
Sorry for the double post, but I resolved my issue.
I am unsure of what exactly went wrong, but I figured it was somewhere between downgrading my hboot, and flashing the CM 6 stable ROM that my 3G data got scrambled....
So! Using ROM Manager, I made a backup of my working (non 3G) MIUI image, and flashed the Odyxed version of the RUU found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836728). After flashing in Recovery, it booted into SenseUI, and worked like a charm!
My 3G hath returned, and issues have been solved. It's nice when you're able to fix things on your own, though I couldn't have done it without the help of that handy dandy search button, and the RUU keyword
Oh, yeah, and I guess xxbabiboi228xx as well.....maybe....^_~
Hi people!
My HTC Desire has a annoying problem, being that it reboots spontaneously.
Well, maybe not really spontaneously.
I believe that it reboots when I (should) receive a call or message, maybe also with push notifications, but that I don't know.
I tried but can't reproduce the problem by calling or texting myself with another phone. But I does happing when people call or text me, not always tho.
With 2G only of Wifi, I have not experienced the problem.
It began while being on MIUI (with a 3th latest radio or so/beta/nog directly after a update). Because MIUI began to irritate me with its speed and bug now and then, I wiped it all and flashed CM7.1 STABLE, incl latest radio, and installed my apps again.
Still reboots.
Flashed a way older radio. Still reboots.
Pretty important, it does NOT get hot.
Facts:
- 3G off, not experienced a problem
- when 3G off, sometimes no signal
- does not get hot
- different radio's, different roms
- slipt out of my hands and fell in a bath, got I out before it even hit the bottom. This happened two of three 2 days before the problems began
I read about HTC reboot problems on Vodafone NL a while ago.. I am on this network, but the posts are not recent..
I read about HTC Desire reboot problems while using the phone, after it's getting hot (2010 posts).
I did had reboots a few months earlier, but that was a bug on MIUI.
Anyone an idea what the problem is?
Make a complete backup and change rom. If problem persits, go back to stock. If desire still reboots, call HTC.

how dis his HBOOT have anything at all to do with rebooting
@OP Try a different ROM.. try both AOSP and Sense, if you still get the issue try return it to stock (RUU) and see if problem persists.. if it does then it's a hardware problem and call HTC.
Change rom

I was having reboot problems with LeeDroid. Installed Tristan202's kernel, fixed it right up.
Are you undervolting or overclocking? That can cause random reboots when the system can't distinguish the actual signals from the random noise and interference, wither because it's too fast (overclocked too high) or too weak (undervolted too low). Bump up the voltage and/or reduce the clock speed a little, and see if that helps.
I didn't do anything with the clockspeed or so. The max CPU frequency is adjustable in CM7, but left it on 998MHz. I'll try 1075 now?
The link to Leedroid is a froyo. But I like gingerbread. HTC even made a gingerbread rom (available on htc dev center).
And the phone had worked normally on gingerbread.
An other problem I had for a longer time.
Sometimes the phone only uploads and doesn't download (as I can see by watching the arrows). So I internet connection doesn't work then. Putting it on flightmode and back does solve the problem.
The tristan kernel:

Which one do I need..?
Thanks folks for your help!

I've got same problems. After rooting my HTC Desire and installing Revolution ROM, it has worked well for about 24h, then i was surprised with disappearing all my data (contacts, messages, settings, was needed to log in back to google, sync was off), so i set up everything again, after few hours of normal work, i noticed that i have to enter SIM card PIN code. ok, done. After few more hours SIM card PIN code again. So i reflashed with another custom ROM and phone started to reboot each time at SIM card pin code enter screen, or after finishing booting. Few minutes ago i tryed to reflash with another ROM, which i used to have few months ago and which was pretty stable (Reflex), and now im stuck at HTC boot logo
HBOOT 0.93
Radio 5.11.05.27
Use a RUU, make sure it's the right one for your phone or that you have a goldcard.
I would try Oxygen Rom, it happened to me in the past but it was fixed a bunch of releases back.
Hmm,. running on 1075Mhz now and no reboots since.. while being on 3G and receiving a few calls and (whatsapp) messages.
I don't want to bump into conclusions to fast, but at least it's remarkable.
Or my phone is dryed up.
(@random_factor?) IF the 1075Mhz setting is the solution, how is that possible??
And I just hit the trackball to enter my phone and tadaaaa: reboot
RUU Bravo flashed.. First flashed hboot stock. Still on alpharev bootloader and S-OFF, so if phones still reboots, I must not forget to flash the stock bootloader... hehe. I will post the results ofcourse of the stock rom ofcourse.
[EDIT]
Being on stock rom/radio, I just had another reboot. Guess it's safe to say it's a hardware problem..
1Ro try to install non-A2SD Rom. it'd worked for me.
Funkypotatoe, I've installed the RUU for my phone. So I'm on the original froyo with original radio, so no a2sd and I'm not using android's original apps2sd now.

yeah, call HTC and request a pickup, hopefully you'll get a Desire S
also make sure your bootloader is back to stock (did you flash the downgrader before you ran the RUU?) if you've just got everything stock after the RUU, apart from the bootloader (if you're still S-OFF), go to my guide and there's a section about still s-off after RUU, do the 2nd method since it's quicker and safer..... and if you're already S-ON just ignore everything I've said and call HTC
Yes I'm still S-OFF.
I've checked your guide: Nice work!
I in doubt of if I should send it to HTC, because of the water incident. There are little white strips in the phone and on the battery that turn red when in contact with water.
The strip on the battery is redish, just from wiping it with a 'wet' towel (there were here and there little drops of water). The visible strip in the phone is still white. Don't know if there are more strips inside the phone. I would suck if I send to phone for warranty, and get as a result: waterdamage, 35 euro research costs.
Hi,
I have just started having problems with my HD Desire which is running Mikes Revolution HD 7.0.4 ROM. It seems that everytime I get out of range of my wireless connection, the phone will shutdown in a very short time and then is impossible to restart. It will get to the splash screen and then shutdown again. I can however restart the phone in recovery and the battery will show that it has a good charge. The phone will also shutdown at various times even when my wireless network is available, but not as quickly or as frequently. I know that it isn't the ROM as I tried a different ROM (after a complete wipe) and the problem persisted. I was wondering if these problems might be down to the battery finally giving up and not being able to provuide enough current to keep the phone on and that searching for a network is putting too much strain on the battery. I don't know if this is a common problem, but any advice will be very welcome. I am using the recommended radio for the ROM and the phone has been working properly and well for nearly a year since it was hacked. Phone does work fine when it is plugged in.
Many thanks
Ian
Did you do a Super Wipe ..?
you can find it here http://goo.gl/hWSCt
What is your radio version is it 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M radio ..?
you can download it from here http://goo.gl/vdP8g
I think it is flashing issue.. and I recommend Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 for you because it is very stable ROM :good:
Before flashing a radio, exhaust all other options (that is if you don't have any experience flashing them). It isn't something to take lightly.
Sent from a dream.
I don't think it is a ROM problem as I did use Superwipe and I had the exact same problem with two entirely different ROMs. Android Revolution 7.0.4 and IceColdSandwich 8.1.1. I have been running 7.0.4 since it was first released by Mike. Also the phone acts normally when plugged in (sorry forgot to mention that in first post).
My Radio is: 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Go back to your stock ROM and see if the issues persist. If it still does, then it might be a hardware issue...if not, find a custom ROM that does not do it..

Dont use the superwipe script. Do a manual wipe. Wipe everything.
Take out the sd card, use a different one or backup your sd card, wipe it, DO NOT PUT THE FILES BACK IN, just a new rom to try to see if problem persists.
If it does, possibly it's a hardware issue.
Try all the different combinations, could be either a bad file in the sd card or a bad sd card and so on or what was mentioned before.

Hello!
I have HTC Evo V 4G and I have it rooted. I don't think I have it S-OFF'd, but I do have 4EXT Touch Recovery installed. I have H-Boot 1.58.
At first I thought it was a HTC Evo 3D so I installed an Android Revolution HD 2.0.1 on it. Everything worked fine iuntil I realized WiFi wasn't turning on and always said "error". I decided to install unSENSEable 2.1 and it installed perfectly, but WiFi still didn't work. I have tried installing NUMEROUS kernels and Wifi still didn't work. I have 4EXT Recovery installed but I am not 100% sure if SmartFlash is installed. I can't install APKs and for some reason it shows that my SD Card isn't mounted, even though when I connect my phone to my computer, it shows up the SD card files.
I have tried multiple ROMs and the problem still persists. I am freaking out and have no other things to think about besides my half-bricked phone.
Please help me out!

OK, first off you're running an EVO 3D that on Virgin Mobile is called the HTC EVO V 4G. The 4G folk will direct you there, and nobody knows why Virgin Mobile used the 4G name for the 3D...
Secondly, the issues you're experiencing are with symptomatic of a bad kernel install which you'll get if you don't have smartflash on 4ext enabled and you're S-ON. If you haven't used wires, you're S-ON,
Until smartflash is enabled, nothing you flash will flash the kernel/wifi modules... so go in 4ext, it should be in settings to enable smartflash... just means it flashes kernel sections in Android mode instead of recovery - transparent to you.
Do that, see if your issues don't start clearing up
