Charging? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so my evo's usb/charger spot broke it popped out
I'm trying to charge it by attaching wires between the battery and metal plats on the phone
I cut my chargers head piece off and I only have 2 wires a red and a blue
I'm trying to figure out where I need to attach these 2 wires to which plates to get it to charge does anyone know which wire goes where..? Or will I b needing another charger cable with more than just 2 wires..?

Yea, that's not a good idea. Unless you want to completely fry your phone and electrocute yourself.

Lol noo I'm not trying to do that lol
So I shouldn't try it lol? U know any other way to charge the phone other than getting another phone and charging the battery and switching it or having to buy an external battery charger? I'm not trying to spend any money on it cuz its not really necessary its just a back up phone

External chargers are only a couple bucks, or you could take it apart a solder it back on.

resolder the USB port back to the board. Much easier, better, and safer than what you are currently trying to do.

You have to be really good at soldering tho the solder points are small and really close to other solders so if u slip and cross the solders u short the logic board so don't attempt unless ur good with a soldering iron and comfortable doing it

U can get a decent soldering iron at radio shack or a hobby shop with the micro tip for about 20$ and a spool of 20guage solder for about 5$ if u find the port lol

Powermat Mod for MyTouch 4g

Can someone give me a hand here.
i have a powermat received which has 2 wires on it a red and a black, and i am trying to find a way to connect theses wires to the 3 side pin connectors on my MyTouch 4G.
anyone have any ideas on how to do this,
Please all help is greatly appreciated
Lol that looks like my pic lol.. I wanted to do a powermate for my phone to, but jus a fyi, you wont get a AC quick charge from the pins, it will be a usb charge..
But all you gotta do is what you see in the pic, red pos on the left pin next to volume rocker and neg on the pin next to the usb port.. If you want you can put the neg on the middle pin also, that will activate desk mode when you charge ur phone..
Good luck, and show the final product when done..

yeah i got that i idea, but how would i be able to keep it hidden?
I just went and purchased the PowerMat Door for the Droid X and as you can see in the pics below it has a Micro usb connector on the battery door it self.
Maybe cuttign a custom sized door to fit the MT4G, what do you think?
you see what i amtalking about?
Oh and P.S. it is your pic LOL
Do you this it can work?

Sorry for the late reply havent been on here for awhile!!! Ummm the hardest thing would be to find away to hook it up to the pins.. I know there is already a power extender thing for the mytouch but looks ugly lol.. I would say try to get another batt cover for cheap and see if you can mod that with the power mate..

I prefer to use touchstone kits for modding from the palm pre, I find it charges my device the same speed as the A/C charger when I hook it up by soldering from its leads to the usb port on the device. It may require a nearly complete tear down of the device, but that gives you all the protection of the charging circuits and the fully charged message on android etc so your device will stop charging, if you hook it up using the 3pins on the battery connector then you are bypassing the charging circuits, possibly with disasterous effect, but certainly with no way to stop charging other than removing it from the charging mat.
Hope that makes sense...

Thanks for that! I just found out now that the MicroUSB/MHL connector is directly on the mainboard... I thought it would have been a small seperate PCB... that's going to be annoying to repair!

No, unfortunately not. It works better with certain cables... I can get a socket for 8 euro... I will check out repair costs and I may buy the equipment rather than pay a ton of money to get it repaired if it comes to that...
Do you successfully replace it? And where you find it?
Because i think mine have to be replaced. Is it hard to replace?
My i9300 felt few times one ground with charger and i accidently drop cofee on it. Then, only charge remain and 2 days after nothing. But everything else is working perfecly.
Thank for helping me!
Sorry for my inglish, its not my native language.
Hi, the socket is on the motherboard and not a separate piece like on some other phones. So either replace the motherboard for about half the price of the phone or find a repair shop that will solder a replacement part on to the phone for you.

LG Optimus G Wireless charging?

I decided to get this phone over the S3 for a multitude of reasons, but one thing that has bummed me out is that I can't do the mod to use inductive charging. Is there a chance a case could be made to plug into the bottom of the phone to do this? Or any other way to crack the phone open and mod for wireless charging?
I didn't put this in the accessories section since modding might be an option.
the case option is possible using an induction coil but care would have to be taken to make sure the proper voltage and amps are flowing through the coil before plugging it into the bottom of the phone. If you can solder it should be possible to mod it directly into the phone. I put up a quick design for a case using my autocad but I haven't had time to do much of anything besides xda read/reply...
I'm curious about this too. I looked in the service manual and found a similar power point used in other mods for the touchstone. Has anyone tried to mod in this way yet?

From the pictures posted in this forum for the disassembly to get to the battery, our phone does not even have the same contacts as our sister phone (Nexus 4) to accept a wireless charging coil. Wireless charging would have to be added to this phone by tapping into the USB port either internally via a hardware mod, or externally with a low profile USB port and a charging coil integrated into a case.

hmm.... well, I guess that makes sense since pretty much nothing else on this phone is the same as the nexus 4, except of course that LG makes them and they both have a glass back.
I could swear that somewhere in XDA I had seen someone do a mod like this to the AT&T version and now I can't find it. I need to cut the lucid dreaming apparently.
I was able to put the coild and little magnets in the back of my phone case... so now it sticks to my touch stone... I have not soldered any wires to 5v or grnd on on the phone at all.. That is beyond by ability currently i will look into it. Looks like the nexus 4 has simple prongs already there (for the orb) but they did not include those prongs in the optimus g sprint or att. so either me or someone that is far more skilled will need to figure out where those points should connect to before doing so.
Sorry guys didnt take picture i was a little early to work this morning and did it at my desk before work started. took about 30min. (remember no wiring just simply put coild and magnets in my phone so it at least sticks to the touch stone in my car)

Take no offense to this, because I'm really not trying to be rude, but that looks terrible. But if it works for you, that's all that matters.
Anyways, I'm trying to get the palm inductive charging coil working internally on a bad esn LGOG that I have. I haven't had time to take it apart, but it is on my to-do list in the near future. I still have my old pre, a spare back cover, and a touchstone.
Sure! As soon as i get a chance ill record it, most likely this morning, thanks

You know what? I completely agree with you, it does look bad, if the cover were plain black, you would only see the micro usb conection... but the ideal thing is to find a connection i side the device, if you find anywhere i can plug the power wires i will, i also have a spare OG with a bad esn...

I think that if we follow the same fitment guidelines as in that N4 tutorial, we should be okay. The internals look very similar. We'd probably have to tap into the USB port's power for it to work, as we don't have the Qi charging coil.

okay i saw the webpage and it is doable, i just bought a micro soldering iron tip and a kit to open the phone (again) carefully... now if you could somehow tell me on the micro usb which two are the power pins so i can solder the two wires there and then to the coil, with that ill make it in a day... i made my little prototype in half an hour or less. Thanks!!!

That I don't know, but that's something that I'm guessing that is standard throughout the micro usb standard. They all should be the same across the board.

Alright, I think I have it figured out. You'll notice that the dude from the Nexus 4 tutorial soldered his red wire onto the side of a black diode labeled "A/W". After taking apart my spare LGOG, we have that same A/W diode (it's microscopic), but it's angled a different way. I think if you solder the positive wire on the the pin that's on the side of the A/W diode facing the battery, and then ground the negative wire onto the exposed copper plate that's next to the screw hole (and right next to the A/W diode), this *may* (no guarantees) work.
I Guess i did it!!!! i soldered the two wires to the tiny diode and then to the palm coil that i just got today in the mail. everything works but there's something hard to do and that is fitting everything in there, i already tried and had no luck the thing has a little back belly lol.

Awesome news. Pretty cool. I wonder if the same thing would work with a Qi coil. Qi is probably the way to go because it definitely has a thinner profile, and plenty of OEM's are coming out with charging bases for it. You also don't have to align any magnets for it to work.

[FYI]Forget about self repairing the charging port

Thinking about repairing your galaxy SIII charging port? Forget it. Unless you are some kind of wizard with a soldering pen, you aren't going to be able to do this. Took my GS3 apart yesterday, and quickly found out that it's more probable that I'd burn a hole in the motherboard. lol. So i just wanted to post this to ward off people from wasting their time and money.

Time to invest in an external battery charger? I hardly ever use the charging port... I just swap my two batteries out. For me USB is for hooking up to the computer and that is even a last resort. Most times I just use dropbox unless it is gigs of info I am transferring.

It would be possible to get by that way for a while. My wife had to do this for about two months when she broke the USB port on her Evo before she could upgrade to the GS3.
It might actually be easier to build up one of the wireless charging mods for the S3 rather than try to repair the USB connector.
The OG HTC EVO used to have a lot of charging port issues. I used to be able to fix them when I worked for sprint with a rubber baking mat and a heatgun.
Go to any home/kitchen store and buy a small baking mat, its a thin heat resistant rubbery material that you can put in the oven and such.
Open the phone up to expose the charging port.
Cut a small opening in the baking mat the size of the charging port and lay it over the phone leaving the hole over the charging port (the mat protects the rest of the board)
Take your heat gun and warm up the charging port, moving the heatgun around to keep the heat spread without overheating.
I used to do this for about 30 seconds or so, heatguns get real hot so it doesnt take long.
Put the phone back together and profit
The heatgun gets hot enough to melt the solder and reconnect the charging port. This doesn't work 100% of the time, depends really what the issue is, but it saved us from replacing a lot of phones!
I have one but I'm just gonna take it to sprint and pay 35 bucks, then build up a wireless charging mod.

And yeah, it's the port not the solder. But thanks for the suggestion!

problem with phone

When i shut off my phone, it thinks its plugged in the charger and when i remove the battery and put it back it in, it reboots the phone. Also when i plug the charger in and remove it, the phone thinks its still plugged in charger.
Is my phone broken or is it something with the software?
Check inside your charging port. Use a flashlight to see. You may have a bent pin. It is 99%not a software issue.

yup its the charging port. there is a pin standing up on the right side inside the port. I am not too sure how to fix(push it back maybe?) it but I im gonna see if sprint will fix it for free or if I can maybe open up the phone myself (no warranty)
thanks for the help though
You can gently use a tooth pick to pull it forward if it isn't pressed against the back wall. If you have access to dental tools it is much easier. You can find similar items in a hobby shop in the sculpting section. If you don't want to go to that trouble, you will have to replace the port. Hope you are good with a soldering iron, if not, you can look up mobiletechvideos on google. Sprint may fix it for free but will likely charge you 50 or more. Mobiletechvideos charges less to replace the bad port.

Make sure battery is out of phone before you fiddle with port.
