[Q] how to use Indian sim on xperia ion purchased from Singapore?

so I got an ion from Singapore and it's not detecting an Indian sim card. what should I do?

Is it sim-locked?

You need to unlock the sim to use anything other then ATT.
No need for anymore replies to this thread he's been sent to the correct location for his problem.

I think you got a LOCKED SIM phone - Easiest way to check is go to phone dial: *#*#Service#*#* (*#*#7378423#*#*). Look into Service Info/Sim Lock. If you got [x] Network 10, X meant you're SIM Locked and 10 is how many try left to enter unlock code.
Another thing as previous person mentioned - IF you see an ATT logo on the phone, that phone is SIM locked for sure and you can follow the thread suggested above and read for more info.

there is no at &t logo
it's normal Sony

Sorry my man, you have find a way to sim unclock it before can use on any network - right now there isn't one yet. The ATT unclock sim thread should give you a good lead.

You need to find out what carrier it is locked to. Then contact that carrier on how to get it unlocked.

You sure its sim locked phone ?
As of now the model locked are sold in US AT&T .. Check if it is really sim locked. Search for thread that let you confirm this thing. :fingers-crossed:
Also as you said it it is saying 'Insert SIM' , This could be a issue of ur sim card is not good. Could be not properly cut into a Micro Sim.
Even if the handset is locked then also on inserting any sim it says 'carrier locked' , and put 'unlock code'(Thats how u unlock a mobile, if u have a code) but should not say "Insert SIM" .
Insert SIM means that your handset has not detected a valid sim card in its sim slot.
I highly suspect that your handset might be unlocked only as in singapore unlocked are sold. try getting a alternate sim (ask from somebody using Iphone 4 or 4s and try again.
Also go in the settings -> about phone -> model number
If your phone model is Lt28H or Lt28i .. Its is highly likely that it is unlocked only ! :fingers-crossed:

If you downgrade to 2.2 you will regret it. If you are s-off Then you Sim unlocked. That doesn't mean that every Sim works with your device. Some carriers lock Sims...

The available methods to S-OFF the device sim unlock the device, but not all sims work with sim unlocked devices. That is carrier locked...

I have a rooted Inspire 4G (rooted with Ach Hack kit). I recently purchased a T-mobile sim (0.99 cents) and put it in my phone and it worked. So I am thinking that when you root the phone with Ace Hack kit, it automatically removes carrier sim lock too. I don't find any other explanation for T-mobile Sim working on my mobile as I never unlocked my phone.

Yes AAHK SIM unlocks as part of the process.

i see.
i tried the sim unlock in the easy radio for dhd and even though the files were successfully pushed but i think my phone is still locked to carrier.
is ur unlocked phone still showing carrier brand when booting?
can u use the phone without sim card inserted?

Apart from checking if your phone is S-off, which my is. Is there another way to check to ensure phone is unlocked?

If you are S-OFF you are probably sim unlocked...however to make sure that you are, you can use this (paragraph 4)

rom i got back to is
I8160JPMA2_I8160OJPMA2_TMC.zip
Build Number : JPMA2
Baseband : I8160JPMA2
and the interface says now "Enter Network Lock Control Key"
so i tried this code *#7465625# and it says :
Network Lock [ON]
Network Subset Lock [OFF]
SP Lock [OFF]
CP Lock [OFF]

Try it.

Was your phone locked to a network before you flashed TMN?
Which ROM did you have on your phone before you flashed TMN JB

Actually i didn't put sim card until i flashed TMN Rom
the previous ROM i think it's JPLD6

Was it operator branded?

the phone came with GB "I8160JPLD6_I8160OJPLD2." so, i looked for JB so i downloaded TMN " I8160XXMC8_I8160TMNMC3_TMN"And Flashed it using odin
after that rooted the device until this point no sim card inserted yet , then my friend took the phone
and inserted the sim card ,then the phone started to ask for pin number he entered the right pin #
for more than 5 time , so i downgraded the phone to gb ,but every time u put sim card in it
ask for "network control key "

I would try getting your friend to purchase an unlock code...
i used a site but it charged around 15euro..will send you the details if you want..
or...

If you can find a simcard that will work with the phone, then sell the phone - probably best to cut your losses

Convert carrier branded to stock software?

I've got a M8 from EE in the UK, which comes with some carrier additions in the software. It also tells me that I'm up to date, although I know there is a newer version out there. It's obviously not been approved my my carrier yet.
Is there anyway I can convert my device to the standard firmware, after unlocking on HTC dev?
I suppose I could just flash a custom Rom?
Would my carrier know / care if I did this?

Your carrier wouldn't know but HTC will know that you've unlocked the boot loader. If you need any warranty work or need to send it back to EE then even if you locked the bootloader it would show as re locked and not locked. If EE check this then they may charge you for any repairs.

Requesting network unlock

Hi all,
Another problem with my m8 gpe...
I have ordered and received an unlock code to Sim unlock my device. I got it today and after inserting another Sim (wind) I punched in the code....and what happened? Nothing..got stuck on the following message..REQUESTING NETWORK UNLOCK...after 10 min nothing happened...after 20 min nothing...I restarted and tried again...same thing... Anyone with the solution?
The phone is locked to Bell, s-on and rooted with custom boot loader...

Do a hard reset. or revert to custom rom. Me too stuck on this. going back to stock is the only solution. I ordered mine from phoneunlockingshop.ca mine was also locked on bell Canada. check this lick for reverting back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694297 after enter unlock code when it accepts you may back to your custom rom

I had the same issue with my Moto G 2013 XT1032 today. The network unlock wouldn't work, it was stuck at requesting network unlock for 20 mins.
I had to revert to stock, then it worked.
