I'd suggest SetCPU ($1.99). Works great for me.

Do you know if this the most compatible OC'ing app with ROMS?
SetCPU and Tegrak are good for Blazer. You can use Tegrak right away if you have Blazer. For SetCPU, you need a compatible kernel (most custom kernels work but the stock Rogue that Blazer gives doesn't). I use Gunslinger and SetCPU works, but it'll def work with Hitman. SetCPU is more simple...so for noob users like me, I can overclock and undervolt with ease. It's free for XDA users... they gave us the pro APK on some thread. Search for it and you'll find it.
I use system tuner pro. You can overclock, change governer, voltage(if available), scaling, etc. But it is more than that, you can back up and restore apps, freeze apps, change memory limits, I dont know...its a pretty cool app.

Yeh, I've used setCPU for a couple of years now. Make sure you learn how to set the profiles to get the most out of it.
I've been using Setcpu since the og evo made overclocking headlines. Works great. I've tried tegrak and voltage control but I like Setcpu the best.

Yeah I have the Pro APK, just in case he wanted to buy it or didn't want to search I put the price.
Tegrak is for stock kernels that don't have over clocking, but with the Hitman kernel SetCPU is perfect.

+1 for Tegrak. Very clean and simple UI and since the stock kernel works great I use mainly for undervolting/underclocking as well as picking my I/O scheduler and profile. Tegrak also allows you to control your GPU, overclock and undervolt it as well.

Yea I used setcpu for the time I had my evo (a year) and it never gave me any problems. Just have "set on boot" unchecked to see if that clock speed is stable. I don't think there is an app made specifically for the evo but by all means, Google "evo overclock app" or something along those lines. Btw, all phones will not react the same to apps on the market. Just keep that in mind please

I guess what I am getting at is, on my D2 I could overclock to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3ghz but setcpu doesn't have a scaler to up my ghz(unless I am completely blind, which happens from time to time). I am currently stuck at the stock EVO clock speed.
What I am trying to figure out is how to overclock to 1.2ghz.
Thanks for the assist guys!
You need a kernel that has oc'ing capabilities. Depends on which rom you run, some only use certain kernels

Undervolting is done with kernels that support HAVS, setcpu on the other hand is for adjusting CPU speed frequencies, to undervolt you need either vipermod or incredicontrol with a kernel that supports undervolting and/ or overvolting.

yup. Although this thing is such a beast I dont see a need to OC it, UV to save battery, yes I actually have mine underclocked to 1.1ghz and undervolted -50 across the board and I notice no dip in performance so far, this thing is still buttery smooth and fast

to chime in, I know most kernels with UV built in usually do -50, so if you did a -50 across the board you should be ok. Some speeds you can get away with more but if you UV too much it will lock up. I think the higher speeds you can actually UV a **little** more than -50, maybe -75 but it really depends on your chip
I really wonder how they do this on the stock kernel. It's the first I've seen that will allow you to OC/UV without a custom kernel..
Oh and OP: I think you should add more to the thread title.. like "Tegrak - Overclock/Undervolt on stock kernel!!!" I think it would get a lot more hits

I apologize in advanced if this has commented anywhere else.
My guess is this requires root, and that the comments about stock kernel are in regards to root + stock kernel.
Just to keep the doubts out, does this require root?
Again, I apologize if this is said in advanced. Probably checking the app reqs would answer this question. Just commenting it as it may prove useful for me and for others as well.

I would LOVE to give this Tegrak thingy a try but I am somewhat confused on what needs to be downloaded and installed.
I am currently on the following:
ROM = midNIGHT 2.0
Kernel = Bubby's [ACS][KERNEL] CWM 5.0.2.3 with sd/internal storage mounted
Mods = Crawrj's AIO mod
Now, when I search for Tegrak on the market, I get the following:
Tegrak Kernel - Free
Tegrak Overclock - Free
Tegrak Overclock Ultimate - $2.34
Tegrak Kernel Donation - $3.73
Which files do I need to download and install? Is it an app? Do I need to flash anything via Odin/CWM?
The apps on the Market really don't say much as to how to properly go about installing this.
I just need to know what I need to do so I can overclock and mess around with the voltages. Thanks in advance.

@zedomax, I installed Tegrak Overclock and after installing and giving it root privileges, I get a "Failed to run insmod!" error everytime I try to load the overclock module. I guess midNIGHT ROM is not compatible with Tegrak? I will be forced to flash a stock, rooted ROM like the one supplied by crawrj with his Stock EG30 Deodexed with Root/Busybox 1.18.4 ROM?

Heyo
I've compiled a *very* simple kernel for our phones just to play with
001
- O/C to 1.8ghz by default
- insecure
002
- should boot up to 1.5 by default (read more on this below the log)
- raised max clock to 1.89GHz
- lowered voltage on a many frequencies
- added init.d support (busybox needs to be installed to /system/xbin!)
Also I'd suggest having your OC app (like SetCPU) go ahead and set your clock at whatever you want your max to be. thermald (a service which watches your phones temp and lowers it if it gets too hot) seems to be messing with the clocks until you set one after it's all booted. So if you don't want to OC, just set it to 1512000 in the app and click "Set on boot" option or whatever it may be.
003
- fixed kernel not being insecure
- sped up L2 cache
- more uv for 648000 and 702000 frequencies
================================================================
More to come as I play with it. Seems pretty stable (and warm!) at 1.8 ghz.
Thanks to faux123 & mdeejay for helping me out with a few things
Flash at your own risk. Make sure you have a NANDROID backup. Flashing the stock kernel via ODIN may not be enough to restore your device. You've been warned

Reboot into recovery
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik-cache
Flash kernel zip
Reboot
Download Adama 003 mirror

As for quadrants dropping, I'm almost 100% certain it's due to some sort of overheat protection. I know on the Galaxy Nexus, Morfic has a toolkit for his Trinity kernel that allows disabling of the heat protection just so you're able to get a full Antutu (or quadrant) score without the heat sensor kicking in and throttling your phone.

This is my first rooted device and I'd like to set the CPU frequency higher. I've read that 1600 is moderately safe and 1800 is feasible. After installing setcpu I've realized that CM10's kernel does not allow overclocking. What is the best action to take? Am I out of luck if I want to stick with CM10? Or is there another kernel I can use compatible with CM10? Thanks for reading.

Hey this might be a bit late on this thread, but Siyah has just released an updated, which works with cm10 and allows for overclocking up to 1600, and undervolting to save on that ole battery... currently for the galaxy s3
Obligatory reminder:
Not all phones are the same. Some tolerate overclock/undervolt better than others. What you WANT your phone to do may not actually be what it WILL do. Start slow, only change one step at a time. I would recommend finding the perfect oc point for your phone, then slowly, slowly working the undervolt into it.
Well I have been looking around on my own, but really I can't make heads or tails out of any of the various Overclocking apps. I am looking for what the best overclocking app (in your personal opinion/experience is). As far as firmware goes I have;

CyanogenMod Version - 10-20121012-NIGHTLY-epicmtd

It does to a degree I believe. Not anywhere around the old cm9 1200 they brought that back to 1000 stock but you can raise the min up from 100-1000. I would stick around 200 or 400 possibly 800 absolute max. It can be set to different profiles conservative, performance ect

If you want to try the kernels by the devs that are working on the ns4g modems I know they have a few options from nitest to stock cm and the other simply something kernel (sorry forgot the name they all work great and just be aware overclocking does have its challenges but it has some killer benefits for sure too at the speed and responsiveness. I suggest stick around 1200-1300 but see what feels right to you. Good luck man!

Stock cm10 does not support overclocking to any degree... the only kernel that supports overclocking for cm10 is the nitest kernel, but it still has some bugs to be worked out, so unless you're an experienced user I recommend stocking with stock cm10 and not worry about oc until/if epic cm team implements it into the stock kernel....

Well it is not so much that I am a noob as it is that I have just not been around for a while. When I broke my last Evo (in July '11) I did not have the cash to buy a new Smartphone so I had been using just a Samsung Restore up until last Monday when I could not take it anymore and bought the Epic.
I will look into the nitest kernel though, thanks for the heads up buddy!

Well, I kind of messed up the first time (When flashing the Modem Patch it would give me an error, rebooted the Recovery and it worked though), So I am now on the nitest Kernel.
Thanks again for the heads up buddy. It is greatly appreciated.

:thumbup: just remember to post issues on the nitest thread and not the cm10 thread....
So what is the best method to overclock now? I downloaded the NStools that was mentioned, however it will only let me go as high as 1GHz, which I could already do within CM10 itself, so I hardly see a point to that.
I just want to be able to run at a max of 1.2GHz.

You have to flash the nitest kernel... if you updated cm10 the kernel was overwritten with the stock one... flash nitest kernel again and you'll be able to overclock... you can't oc unless the kernel supports it.........

My Kernel version says;
"3.0.46-CM10-nitest-nr-g716d7f6
[email protected] #1
Tue Oct 16 11:0900 WIT 2012"
Sorry for being such a pain on this, just would rather do it once and do it right rather than keep having to restore or reflash stuff.
You may need to enable the oc frequencies... I would post in the nitest thread and see if there is anything you need to do to enable oc....

Actually simply cm10 is another kernel that you can overclock with and is based of linario I believs. They have with or without voodoo as well but make sure you are on fc09 or an epic modem. Also nitest has ns4g and epic versions for the phone as well

Hey that's what makes xda so great is that if I don't know something someone else will or vice versa. I just wish all the epic peeps could get the same phone I do when I upgrade in july!
