so, just got my phone looking and feeling pretty much how I wanted it using go launcher but I am noticed that either i have a problem with screen sensitivity or there is a problem with go. I am finding that i have to click some icons several times to launch them, seem worse in drawer.
Anyone else finding that the get the audible click but nothing happens?
EDIT: switched back to ADW and everything is back to normal, gotta be an issue with GO..
No. The only problems I've had with Go Loauncher EX is that there was a lag between the start of a horizontal swipe and the homescreens starting to swipe - resolved once I stopped the wallpaper from scrolling too, and in the app drawer sometimes a long press doesn't launch "edit mode".
Other than that it's all gravy...
odd, my problems disappeared when moving back to ADW. Cheers anyway though.
+1 haha i thought it was just me that was having this issue.when you select something on launcher it indicates the touch with the glow but nothing happens?press couple times and it will open.that is what i was having.was making think i was having lag.went back to touchwiz not a issue.
+2 Hot damn, I thought I was going crazy.
Edit: I emailed them about it but it definitely goes away with a different launcher
cool hopefully they will have a fix in no time.those guys work hard.its hard to go back to touchwiz after go.i also use there go pro messenger.built in backup etc like the laucnher.
Having the same "lag" problem.
So, we're all NOT crazy
Cant say I have had this issue and I have been using GO Launcher for quite some time now.
Yes, I noticed this bug also.
I'm using go launcher ex for some time and this came out since 2-3 weeks.
I hope they will fix it soon.

I am having the same issue here. Gestures are disabled but that didn't help (even after restarting phone). Used to have Launcher Pro Plus which didn't have this kind of behavior.
Sent dev an email though.
Same observations. Especially bad for icons in the dock. I have always disabled gestures.
+1 I also have this problem from time to time. First I tought it was me missing the right spot on the screen, but it must be a bug.
Anyone experiencing lag when going out of the launcher to the home screen. All my apps/folders/widgets and not there for a good couple of seconds all I see is the launcher button. Then after a couple of seconds they all load up ive been experiencing this more and move since ive had the phone.
Anyone else get this lagginess when coming back to the home screen ?

I get it sometimes too, reboot the phone and it stops for a day or two then starts happening again :/

I'm guessing it's a normal function in the os . It probably does it to clear up more memory so your apps run smoothly.

I'm having lag in the app drawer. it's fine scrolling forward in the drawer, but when I scroll backwards, there is some stuttering... anyone else having this issue?
i have this problem too any solution ?
it's a known issue
you can switch to faster launchers, like ADW or Go Launcher EX, or others alike which lets you optimize more to reduce lag

+1 on the adw ex. i've been running adw ex. = f'ing awesome.
I noticed that the first couple days, then it went away by itself and worked great for a few days. Then I installed and uninstalled a ton of apps and now it kinda lags a bit again at times... but it's not bad at all...
Anyone else notice that it gets a little jittery when you're on the app drawer and you hit the home key? When the icons do that zoom out, it's not as smooth as the rest of the phone usually is. It's minor, I know, but I'm starting to think maybe Apple has a patent on a smooth UI (that's a joke).
I've also noticed bad performance with live wallpapers on the home screens, it's really rough with most live wallpapers. I previously had the Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S 2) and it was ALWAYS smooth as butter, even with live wallpapers... when running the stock TouchWiz UI. So while the processor/gpu in the GS2 is probably better, it seems to me like it's more of a software issue.
It doesn't bother me enough to want to go back to the Galaxy S II, mind you, physically this phone is superior and I sure love me some vanilla ICS... but are any of you noticing this with custom ROMs as well?
EDIT: I wanted to add, I've tried Nova & Apex, and I didn't notice a difference in this regard.
When you tried Apex did you turn on the setting that saves your home screen in memory? I have noticed almost zero lag with this option selected

It seems to help just a little with live wallpapers when sliding between homescreens, but it has zero effect on how jittery it is when you're in the app drawer and you hit the home button (when the icons "fly away" and you go back to the home screen).
I dont have any App drawer to Home lag.
Every stock LWP except "Phase Beam" lags afaik. Kinda sucks but how it is.

I will confirm that the zoom out animation when hitting home from the app drawer is not as smooth as it should be. My old Samsung Fascinate is on AOKP and the transition out of the app drawer is actually smoother than my Nexus. I wouldn't call it lag but it's definitely not as smooth as it should be.

On this phone, yes. On the Galaxy S2... no.
To contradict the apple joke, I have an iPod touch 4th Gen and my friend has an iPhone 4S, both of them get laggy transitions after a while, especially after opening a few apps. I'm on stock and have zero lag. Nova had less then apex from what I've used.

Same for me ..
The live wallpapers all lag, but its gotta be a software issue not yet fixed.
The app drawer fly away animation is weird, cause I do see that stutter sometimes. But then a lot of the time its smooth. Not sure what that's all about. But I'm of the opinion that everything can be smoothed with a software tweak.

These forums exist for many reasons including discussing problems, right? This is an obvious problem and I'd like to discuss it. Thanks.
Your solution here is to live with it or get a different phone and you've been "thanked" at least a couple of times for it. That's super constructive. Do you honestly not understand why I brought up the Galaxy S2 as a comparison, or do I need to draw pictures?
Am I the only one that finds it frustrating that Google's flagship device doesn't perform as well as other devices in something as simple as homescreen transitions or opening/closing the app drawer?
IMO its the soft key glow animations causing the "lag". There's a mod which I have done which shortens the length of the glow animations, its basically eliminated the lag you are talking about.

Nope it drives me crazy too. I have started using Apex launcher with the widgets tab hidden so its just apps and its better but still jitters a bit. I even get jitters and lag on the lockscreen. I turned auto brightness off which helped but from time to time it lags crazy if i swipe fast.

So...what did you accomplish by bringing up the GS2?
Did you...fix your problem?
Did you...make yourself feel better?
We all get it, the GS2 doesn't lag on live walls. Well, guess what? This one does, like most android devices. This is a fact, and it may or may not get fixed. So really, bringing the GS2 into any conversation regarding the Galaxy Nexus is NOT constructive. Comparing the GS2 to this device is going to be met with irritated folks because we have been listening to it for the last 6 months. I am sure I am not speaking only for myself when I say I am sick and tired of it.
This is not a PC. We can't just go throw extra parts in it, and upgrade the hardware. Therefore, the only solution to your problem is another device. I am sorry if it offends you, but it is a fact. Take the good with the bad, or find another device that is better for you. This is how the smartphone world works.
As we all know that the 4.2.2 update made our phone as fast as the 4.1.2. But it has a bug, at least for Maguro (not happening on my N7). Do you ever get a laggy scrolling on homesceen, when entering app drawer and scrolling in recent apps? I believe everyone has it. But only few people notice it. I have tried all 4.2.2 ROMs. AOSPA, AOKP, PAC, etc and all of them has this bug (I have done a clean flashing). And I have tried all launchers, Nova, Apex, Holo, Action Launcher, Stock, but the lag is still back!
The (systemUI) lag has to do with rendering (static) wallpapers. This can be solved by:
1. Setting a live wallpaper
2. Temporarily, by pressing the app switcher button, rotating the screen and pressing the back button
3. Disabling system autorotate
4. Making the launcher (instead of systemUI) handle the rendering of wallpapers. In Nova launcher, use the 'force scrolling' option, in Trebuchet (CM) use the 'wallpaper quick render' option
5.. Using an app to set static wallpapers as if it were a live wallpaper
Also, emptying cache for all user and system apps using Titanium Backup seems to affect the issue positively. Please note that this might result in some settings being set to stock (like the keyboard, snooze duration and some other minor things).
Well, this is only for temporarily solution for those of you that getting sick of this bug. Waiting for the fix from Google.
Thanks to Butter Smooth for summarizing

AW: Solution for laggy homescreen and systemUI in 4.2.2 update
I've noticed the choppy transitions in 4.2.2. too and I'm glad I'm not the only one
Another finding is that changing the wallpaper makes the transitions smooth again. But the choppiness returns after a while. I'll try your tip tomorrow and report...

To me 4.2.2 seems the most stable version so far, it's very much consistent, and scrolling in the recent apps menu gets laggy after I scroll a certain amount, and ofc when removing the process it lags, but this was present in 4.2.1 as well, i would have to say that as far as performance say, it's much more consistent than previous versions,
Static wallpaper or live, i see no difference

There's actually a lot of truth to the live wallpaper trick. Back on the Photon forums, we would use this technique to smoothen out the UI on our ICS and JB releases since we did not have a proper kernel and drivers, thus terrible onscreen performance. But this fix has existed since ICS! And it works!
Regarding the live wallpaper being smooth. It might have something to do with scrolling wallpapers too. How is everyone's feelings on a static, non scrollable wallpaper? Or is that what we are talking about?
I've had the choppyness too.
I am now using plasma beam and will report back. I also am going to try it on my nexus 10.
I'm telling you guys, try out the combo I posted in post 2. It really removes lag.

i use it like that(single homescreen no scroll)and i noticed the same lagging issue after a while
but i think it has to do with how you set the wallpaper, when i used zedge or image2wallpaper to set them the issue stated on the OP appeared
but if i use the stock gallery to set them and the problem is mostly gone
something else ive noticed is that the status bar lag only happens when on the launcher screen, open any app and pull the SB and its smooth, go back to the homescreen and pull it,its choppy
EDIT
still happens even after using the stock gallery

I've noticed the same problem with 4.2.2 ever since it came out. I usually use Phase Beam so I never noticed it. Only when I switched to a static wallpaper (one of the stock ones) for a day did I notice that the transitions into and out of app drawer and scrolling through home screens gets choppy. I never did find a way to reproduce it reliably, but I do know that if you use it long enough it will start to happen.
Immediately fixes itself by setting to any Live Wallpaper as OP had suggested.
Problem only started to occur with 4.2.2. Never had it happen in 4.2.1 or 4.1.x.

I don't know man. I'm either lucky or just not as picky but I don't even notice lag there. I have a few screens of widgets on my lock screen too.
Set a static wallpaper, go back to home screen or lock your device. Then, swipe down the notification bar and notice how choppy it appears.
Now, go inside an application, like Calculator - swipe down the notification bar and notice how smooth it is.

Ok, I see what you're saying now. It was slightly smoother. Thats odd.
Folks when using nova launcher there's a clear noticeable lag when launching apps from home screens.
I've tested this versus stock oneplus launcher. On stock oneplus launcher apps launch instantly after you tap on an icon, whilst on nova the app icon lights up & then the app is launched afterwards. My best mate who also uses a oneplus 3 has been experiencing the same issue.
To test this for yourself, use oneplus launcher for a minute, opening various apps - then do the same on nova and you'll immediately notice the micro lag.
This also occurs when launching apps from the app drawer.
Anyone else noticed this?
I also experience the exact same issue. Noticed it couple of days ago but haven't had time to post about it here.
I have reported the issue to the Nova Launcher Dev via email and also in the Beta Google+ page. This is definitely a Nova Launcher bug as I have tested Google Now Launcher, the new Pixel Launcher and the official One plus launcher.
On all three apps open the instant an icon is touched while on nova an icon is touched, the icon briefly lights up and only then opens. It is something you might not notice initially but once someone tells you or shows you, you can't miss it and it gets more and more iritating with time.
Have tried moving to other launchers but the uncustomisable grid size on Google Now, Pixel and Oneplus launcher keep me from doing so as most of them have massive vertical gaps inbetween apps on the homescreen.
It happens on both Latest Beta and Latest Stable version of Nova Launcher Prime. Have tried to remove all widgets off homescreen, turning off animations system wide, but it did not make a difference.
Running Official Rooted Stock with Viper4Android Oxygen 3.2.6. Do not use xposed so a module can't be the culprit.
Try changing scroll speed and animation speed to Fast under nova setting look and feel. Also in developer settings change transition animation scale, animator transition scale and windows animation scale all to .5

The problem isn't an animation problem. It is a delay that happens before the animation even takes plays. It doesn't matter even if you switch the animations off system wide under eveloper options the delay between when you tap on an app and it opening is still noticeable
Oh, ok. Mine is bone stock unrooted and don't have any stutters that I can see. Wish I could help.

No worries bro, thanks for chiming in
Can't say I notice anything more than the animation.
My nova beta with prime on stock oxygen 3.2.6 is as smooth as one plus launcher.
I don't notice it myself; that said, I'm using FreedomOS (slightly modified OOS) and blu_spark kernel, which might help improve performance a bit.
Most apps open up before I even manage to lift the finger off the screen, those that take longer are equally slow on both launchers. (Talking about cold starts here, once they're in RAM everything's pretty much instant).

It probably comes from the fact you can assign 2 different apps for the same icon.
One for "click" and one for "slide up".
If you slide up the app drawer icon you'll enter in Nove Settings for example.
"Not a bug, just a feature" ^^
Same thing with SmartLauncher.

That shouldn't cause any lags, sliding and tapping are completely different actions.
Lags or rather delays happen when you have double tap functions, because in that case the system has to wait after first tap to see if you'll tap again. But sliding has no influence here.
I'm using swipe-up functions on multiple icons and still see no lag whatsoever.

I just checked on my device and I have a little latency due to the animation (just tried to change the speed animation and it fixed it).

The lag is a MICRO lag not a very noticeable lag. Any other launcher including, google now, pixel, one plus and action launcher 3 don't have it but nova does. doesnt matter if your using stable or beta builds. Makes no difference what home screen set up you got. There is slight delay between when you touch the screen and the app icon you pressed starts playing animation. The app lights up first which it shouldn't do. it should just start animation the minute the app icon touchscreen input is detected. It is alot less likely to happen if the app is not in memory. Once the app is in memory it does it every single time you press home, whatsapp for example. Moved to Action Launcher 3 after using Nova Prime for past 3 years. Reported to developer via email and google+ beta page but no reply in 3 days.
noticed this since i got the phone a couple of weeks ago, but only if keeping app in memory (i.e. hitting home instead of back). if i hit back to exit app, this delay doesn't occur (except maybe w/ facebook)
only happens w/ nova launcher and definitely specific to OP3. i would use stock launcher, but i prefer to turn all animations off, and nova seems to be the only launcher that keeps the light up on button/app press with animations off.
in general, OP3 seems to lag a bit compared to my OPX in regards to navigating menus (i.e. settings)
I can also confirm microlag when launching apps, really annoyed with it.
