Lost IMEI and efs - HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
I can't seem to find efs and imei files/folders on my wife's wildfire s.
I am using root explorer on her rooted device with cm7.2 installed.
Strangely enough the work is working an on phone status imei seems valid.

If you want the imei just smash in *#06# in dialer.

When you flash a non sense rom you will lose those folders because sense uses them for sim card information etc on cm7 that information is built in to the framework. So don't worry the files are missing your phone will still work as normal

Hi,
I have almost the same problem like y.trumper:
I cannot find the efs-folder on my rooted Wildfire S, BUT I'm still using STOCK rom with HTC Sense...
(I've just rooted and tried to find the efs folder for a backup before installing custom rom...)
Could anbody explain how to find the efs-folder in order to copy it?

You can't find this folder/partition because it doesn't even exist. Therefore, there's no need to backup anything else than your data (apps, contacts etc). Just flash your desired Custom ROM!

Thanks! Can you explain to me how it works then? Is it impossible to loose the IMEI number when something goes wrong during flashing?

Just go here and here. And no, normally you shouldn't lose your IMEI (depends on what you flash and how!). But if you just follow the instructions given in our fora, nothing can happen as the Wildfire S is nearly unbrickable.

Hi,
I need advice what is-not-possible if I delete the backup file inside the folder. I am using backup apps nowadays.
These filed are very big in mega byte size.
Thank you.

If you flash a rom and something goes wrong then you will have two options to wipe and start again or restore your backed up rom and data .....useful if you like to flash custom Roms alot, or if you like to modify your phones boot, splash etc and then want to revert back

The reason it's big is because it's the backup of your stock ROM. You should NEVER delete this as you may need it in the future if something goes wrong with your handset.
It is not purely a back up of apps on the phone, it is the backup of the operating system that the phone cannot run without.
If you delete it and you brick your phone somehow, then you have small chance of getting it back again.
Nah it is not that serious, a full wipe + custom rom will restore a phone just like a nandroid backup would.

True, but what if you want to revert it back to stock in order to send it back to your carrier if you have a hardware problem that needs fixing?
Thank you for you reply. I will keep one the oldest copy.

to be on the safe side, keep a backup of your stock ROM and all of your installed ROM on your SDcard and on your PC/Portable Drive. If you upgrade your custom ROM, delete the old one on your SD to save space. Anyway its just 800MB on your stock ROM plus 400-600MB on your custom ROM

EFS

Where might one find the Efs folder on this phone
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
not sure if youll find a efs folder for i dont think its part of the rom rather writen into the radio. just a guess. maybe try the search function in root explorer or similar file manager. or open up a supewipe that contains a efs wipe and see if there is a directory of sorts there.

EFS is a partition, not a folder, and as such you can't find it w/ a regular file browser.

If you use the EXT4 Superwipe [link] it will format your EFS partition (and all others except sdcard, BACKUP FIRST!!!!), but will backup your EFS partitions to your sdcard as part13 & 14.
will i be able to save it to my computer

Why do you want to backup your partition with imei data?
There is no way to write to where the imei data is, even with S-OFF, all partitions below 7 inclusive (and a few others I think) are write protected

isn't that the point of root access to be able to write or read any filesystem on device? Anyways the reason i want to back the efs(imei) is if i somehow screw it up by flasing something. Example coming from samsung. When i first started to play with root and roms i ran out of things to flash so i decided to carrier unlock my device. I was successful except my imei was gone meaning it read all 00000000000000 . Up until this happened i never even heard of efs let alone seen any threads that discussed it. Long story short a Dev from another community was able to help me restore it even without a backup SGS4g devs had no fix to restore . Also this device is still stuck on GB no ics love yet, we do however have a working version of CM7. our devs have implemented automatic efs backup everytime new rom is flashed now and when we install cm7 we have to flash a EFS backup.zip first, complete wipe, then EFS restore.zip.then we can flash CM7 rom other wise it wiil erase IMEI leaving all 0000000000000 . So thats why i want to back it up since there is no way to simply rewrite your IMEI . Sorry for the long rant.

Yea if you copy the files from your SDcard..

Efs folder doesn't exist

Hello.
Sorry for language mistakes, I don't learn english too much
About 2 months ago I missed imei by flashing custom rom. I thought that warranty is missed too, but service repaired my phone (at least I thought like that).
Now I want to backup efs folder, but it isn't existing . I searched with root explorer and it didn't show any efs folder.
It is surprise, that after typing *#06# phone show correct imei.
How can I create efs folder or backup imei without efs?

U cant access efs through ur phone(i mean using root explorer u cant backup efs folder) U will need to use ADB to backup although it is not needed to backup efs because custom rom only flashes the modifed firmware it does not flash baseband, imei etc. Only thing is u need to be careful with doing this kind of things.
Press thanks if helped.
That's it.
You can use EFS Backup. I strongly recommend it.

(GUIDE)EFS/Emergency calls only/not registered with network- WHY, WHEN & HOW TO SOLVE
HI Mates, there are already a lot of comments posted about efs. But I think a detail need to talk about. Here we are:
# suddenly you find that your phone is not getting the network. When you try to make a call it says: not registered with network. Problem remains even after restock.
WHY & WHEN
usually it happens while you flash(sometimes dirty) roms often and/or
Switching from AOSP to AOKP to SAMMY vice versa. .
HOW TO SOLVE
as you are flashing roms, naturally you are rooted and you have a root explorer. Roms from 4.1 and later ones automatically creats a efs back up while you flashing a new one. When you found the disturbances, with a root explorer search for the folder "efs_Backup".
The location varies from rom to rom. You may find it under sdcard, may find under /data/media or somewhere else. After you find the folder
Open it
You will find several zip files created in different dates. Those dates are your rom flashed dates.
Choose the right dated one remembering when your phone was fine.
Extract the zip.
Go to /efs
Delete entire contents of the folder.
Go to the efs zip extracted folder.
Selct all and move them to the /efs folder.
Your phone is back as normal!

Did u create a backup during aroma install?
Or do nvbackup in any way like with terminal or with a app.. there are apps and methods that backup these things to sd card.
Not sure ...not to many people loose imeis
Its said to happen on occasion... probably a bad botched flash

well after trying out ways to get back my imei and my *#06# being completely blank. I decided to go back to wicked v10 rom and it looks like i got back my imei. I did a md5 check before flashing to make sure the file was good and i tried flashing dandroid rom again and my imei goes blank when I do. Guess that dandroid doesn't work on my phone.
For folks who run into this thread in the future, please just post in the existing threads, or better, just PM me. Thx.
