[Q] IceColdSandwich 4.0.3 wifi drops - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, thanks for all the information and nice tutorials.
I rooted my phone from the default and latest HTC sence version to the Ice Cold Sandwich 3.0.0.
I really like the new version, however I notice some wifi drops as I had before a specific HTC update.
Does anybody know a solution for this problem? I can't post in the developer forum due too not enough posts...
Thanks in advance.
kr

The ROM is a port so plenty of things are bound not to work at times. It's a common issue and is easily solved by flashing a more stable ROM.

you could try WiFix Manager from the marked see if that helps you..
i think most of the icecream builds have many bugs yet..
and proberly many with the same problem as you
so if you used the search function under the rom you use
you would proberly see many with the same problem and fix to it

The wifi doesn't "drop", it's just that ICS has different levels of measurement than HTC, so 2 bars on sense may be 1 bar on ICS

Thanks, but i'm really noticing drops and even dead spots like i experienced before.
The HTC update than solved this for me.
When I for example hold my hand fixed above my phone the wifi signal will drop very fast and after some time the connection is even lost.
As I said I also had this problem before with the HTC software, however there has been one update regarding wifi problems and this solved this issue for me.
I don't know whether there is a possibility to see what has been solved in this update and to implement it somehow.
kind regards

That's because you're blocking the antena inside which makes the signal poor. Try not to cover the plastic in the back of the phone all the way.

I got the same problem of dropping wifi connection but I managed to work. I used to run ttorrent even I m not downloading anything.
There's an option "best wifi...." Something in advance wifi menu in sense ROMs, that solves dropping wifi connection.

That's a Sense only option. AOSP doesn't have that but has a different set of setups which can enable better wifi performance. There is also an application called WiFix which fixes some known issues about wifi.
You can find it here:

That WiFix doesn't help me for constant connection, I am running ttorrent on background.

Extremely slow internet on any AOSP ROM?

Hello, I'm running miui, and ever since I flashed it both my WiFi and mobile network speeds are horrible. It only loads a few few kb/s, while stock ROM and my computer have excellent speeds, same result when I was at a friends house.
However network speeds are great at my schools public network; they've blocked loads of ports and protocols which means stuff like the Android Market won't work. This gives me the feeling that my traffic is being tunneled, but that the port is blocked at school so it reverts to non-tunneled traffic.
However I'm not sure of this because for example my external ip is the same as my computers, and sites like what's my ip doesn't detect any proxy.
Both VPN and proxy aredisabled in the menus.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: I've now noticed that the same problem occurs when running OpenDesire.. Maybe it's related to AOSP ROMs?
EDIT2: Just remembered, CyanogenMod used to work fine.. I'll try flashing it once again.

Could my current radio affect this? Unfortunately I can't remember what I'm currently using..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I tried the latest radio, 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27, but no difference.. Watching YouTube videos does not work because it's soo slow, downloading Angry Birds would take 25 minutes, downloading a 100kb pdf file with bus timetables took a minute and so on.. ._.
bump.
Any info you want?
Are you still getting 3g or is it only 1x data?
It does show the 3G icon, so yes, 3G,
Same problems when running OpenDesire! Maybe it's an AOSP ROM problem occurring just for me?
EDIT: Just remembered that CyanogenMod used to run fine, I'll try flashing it and see if the same problems occur again.
Check your build.prop data/net settings and compare with one from a ROM that works well for you. Try and make the WiFi scan interval option 60s or above (not below).

[Q] COS-Bravo-ICS - problem reconnecting with 2G or 3G after Wifi connection

Hi,
I'm using the COS-Bravo - ICS [21-May-2012] on my phone. Since the first version I flashed I've been having the same problem, but as the ROM is under development, I thought the problem would get fixed in some update. It still hasn't so I'm reporting it.
When loosing a WIFI connection, the phone must switch to a 2G or 3G network. This doesn't happen. Mostly the WIFI icon disappears as it disconnects and the signalstatus doesn't change (no Edge, Gprs or Hdspa is added). When I go to Airplane mode and back or when I switch between 2G/3G, the connection is repaired and the data-connection works again.
I've also noticed this problem with other ICS roms (Sanvold and BCM)
Does anybody have a clue what this could be?
Radio
What radio version do you have?
Its recommended to have the latest radio.
You can find the latest radio here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
Of course the latest radio. ;-)
I have the same issue. When turning wifi off, my Desire doesn´t get a mobile connection though it´s showing, that i would be connected.
Switching to 3g and back doesn´t work for me.

Same problem here with Sandvolds ICS
I have this problem nearly 2 years now on every rom (stock eclair, froyo and cm7) and on every radio version, so I guess it is hardware depended.
Correct me if i am wrong.
What I do is switching to airplane mode and back, so i have to enter my PIN again.
Maybe there is a soltution, cause this is really drving me nuts
Thx
With the newest version (01-06-2012) the problem seems to be solved (for me). Perhaps you should give it a try.
I´ve been glad to hasty. It still does not work. Neither does it to switch between 2g and 3g. But the airplane-"hack" does work for me too.
I have same problem with COS ROM. Mobile internet connection after using telephone as wifi modem do'nt working successfully.... i need reboot phone, airplane mode not solving this problem..
Hi!
Same problem here (HTC Desire Bravo, GSM, Cos-Bravo 1st June, latest radio).
This "bug" is present in every ICS Rom and as well in some GB Roms I tried. So far, the RSK ROM Sense 3.5 with amaze cam doesn't have this issue.
I hope someone will get to it. I'm more than ready to donate if someone will be able to solve this out with next build.
Thanks.

To judge from my own experience - I'm still seeing this problem six months later - it has not been fixed yet. Or does it only affect a subset of Desires?
I'm experiencing it using a GB ROM - Mildwild 4.7, though it was there in 4.6 as well. I can only assume it is in the ROMs, as I get it on two different handsets, a PVT3 running radio-5.17.05.23 and a PVT1 rrunning radio-5.11.05.27.
cheers,
Bryangb
Remove the skipbrokendatacall entry in build.prop file. This will not completely resolve the problem but will make it very much manageable.
Check your APN Settings and try to set APN-Type to default only.

Not reconnecting to mobile network

Hey all, sometimes when my device loses service it does not reconnect until I reboot.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this? Or even a place to start looking?
Thanks in advance
To start looking the best way would be by putting information about your ROM, provider, radio version and maybe radio logcat or any other relevant information. As some are known to be causing issues with dropping connection. But also if you use search function and enter the same query you will see that this has been discussed million times and some suggested some ways to resolve the issue.
Good luck

All ICS and JB ROMs seem to use RIL 1.6 which might be the problem. I'm testing a self-compiled Evervolv ICS with the RIL from CM7.2 and some small (kernel) patches atm, no connection problems so far...

[Q] CyanogenMod 10: Wifi Problem?

Hey There,
I've just installed this fine ROM today, and it seems great,
but for some reason, the wifi reception is BAD now.
It works fine if I seat near my router, but if I move 3 meters away
it looses the connection ... and says the reception is POOR.
Any1 else has this problem?
Which version of CM10 did you flash, if it's anything older than beta 1 try flashing Beta 1 ? if you still have problems after Beta1
Try flashing a different kernel and see if that resolves your problem. (if i can spare you some time, try faux123's kernel)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647993
And then if you still have problems.
Try running the Viper ROM 2.6.0 with the Butter hacks runs very smooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745176
Thanks for the quick replay
I flashed the "[08-09] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed" rom.
I don't think this is the same cm10 everyone's using.
and I don't really understand, doesn't the Kernal comes with the rom?
Can I change it without changing a rom ?

I notice the same problem a few days ago (I think is since I have install CM10). I have switched on OrDrost since 2 days, I tried the Faux kernel and finally I just revert to full stock rom and my wifi signal haven't change :/

But on the stock rom WIFI was ok.
Update: Ok I did the "Squeeze" test. Wifi is great whn I squeeze
So it is a hardware problem?? How it only started after I put CM10?
Have you reinstalled the stock rom since you have the problem?
I don't know if CM10 is the cause, or it's a coincidence..
there's an UNOFFICIAL release at the moment which may fix some issues, though I've not noticed anything and I've had every release since A10 installed, so it could be a hardware issue.
I'm on the newest build of cm10 and my WiFi network is fine. I can from leedroid and so far just the same. I do have a tiny bit of earphone cable between my back and hard case which gives me my full bar due to the hardware fault.
Couldnt be bothered sending it back. So this works. Bit did recorded it with HTC so they know I have the fault.

Not yet, I really hate the stock rom.
tgcp, Where can I get this rom?
(Although it really seems like an hardware problem,
I heard the latest stock update helps a little so there
might be a software solution)

But if you use Cm10 without that little earphone cable, the wifi won't work good?
BTW, what does htc support ask to fix the problem? Do they care you rooted and unlocked the device?
The cable is about 3mm in lengh and as i have a hard case, its enough to compress the connection inside the phone where the fault is.
Htc would of course fix it, but whats the point if the phone is working and its not noticeable.
I would have had to relock bootloader and go back on stock rom.

I can't move more then 2 meters from my router or it disconnects.

Problem is I can't get back to stock! from what I understand the Stock RUU for my phone wasn't released ...
Do you think HTC will be "understanding" and fix the wifi issue even with a custom rom?
(they'll know anyway that I opened bootloader)
Try flash the Rom with the stock kernel, that will surely solve the WiFi problem.

Did you not do a backup before installing custom rom. Im positive that even if you relock the bootloader they can see that if they went in to recovery. But unlikely. So if you flash stock rom and re lock bootloader, remove root you should be fine

Hi, try using tbaldens CM10. It can be found under HTC ONE X ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT. I found this to be the best CM10
I have been chasing this problem ever since installing CM10 on my Evo 4g LTE. I was getting 4 times the wifi distance on the stock rom. I go about 30 ft. outside the office and wifi drops. Also, what is the most annoying... I stream over our LAN, and when the screen is off, it turns wifi off after a few minutes. (and yes, the check box is checked to keep wifi alive). I've also tried all of the wifi fix apps and none work. If I leave the screen on and stream........ it is good anywhere from 1/2 hour to an hour, then it will just stop. This kills my battery of course. The problem 1st occured when I first bought my OEM 4g lte, but there was an option in the advanced menu "best wifi performance", after checking that, it worked great, then I switched to CM10 and I now have the wifi issue, and there is no option for "best wifi performance". I've tried a couple other jellybean roms and they have the issue as well. This is driving me nuts. I hope someone finds a solution. I don't think the average person would find this as a problem, but when I stream over the net and move all about the shop, it is unacceptable.
I faced the same issue but not on any other ROM. It was specifically with Cyanogenmod 10. I was upset because it gave me the best results but the wifi result was really poor.
However, since I work with wireless networks often, I decided to explore Cyanogenmod's wifi settings. I noticed that if you go in the Advanced Wifi functions (which you can find in the Wifi options menu) you will notice that there is an option called "Wi-Fi Region Code".
Apparently, this option allows you to select the frequency bands your device can operate and is subject to the different world regions. It is quite possible that your Access Point follows the regulatory body of your country and you should know which frequency bands they allow the AP to operate. Due to this it may be just that the Cyanogenmod, by default, put you in a different regulatory domain and limits your frequency band to a subset offered by the AP. Hence, this effectively limits your wifi reach even if you are sitting right next to the AP.
I chose "Japan" since I remembered that their regulatory domain allowed for quite a large subset of frequencies that are allowed on the WIFI spectrum. This immediately increased my received signal strength and I did not have any problem since.
I suggest you play with this, it is likely that your android device will start functioning correctly. However, if you are facing this limited frequency issue on more than one device and that too running different operating systems and different wifi hardware...chances are that your wifi router is malfunctioning. In that case, replacement or repair of the Access point is the best alternative.
Good luck. I hope this solves your problem.

[Q] Jelly bean htc__044 wifi issues

Hi all, I just updated my phone to JB. it seems that wifi has stopped working. Although It shows connected to the modem, I can't browse using the wifi. There are no issues with the data connection. I tried restarting the modem, restarting the phone etc yet the problem is still there. The moment I connect to the wifi it works for a while but then it dies off. I even did a factory reset on the phone yet no respite.
The hboot version is 1.36 and everything is stock. Can someone please help me out here?

Try forgetting the network or change password for your wifi network? Sometimes that will solve the problem. Have you also tried using your wifi on other devices? If it is still a One X problem only, send it for service.
If you are on N.
Try setting router to G only, see how that works.
While I dont have this issue on one x, got this same issue on china tablet connecting to certain Wifi access point.
Generally I say it's compatibility issue, between newer wifi driver on JB update and particular Wifi AP. And enabling G mode only increase compatibility.

This is the best thing you should try.., set the Wifi to G only or B/G only and then try connecting your devices. i had a tablet with this problem and it was so simple to sort it out with this router setting change.
what is your router's brand or manufacturer?
try disabling the WMS (or WMM on other brand) in wireless settings
I had this problem since ICS and this trick worked for me.
My WiFi has only improved.
Hardware fault maybe?

You shouldn't have to downgrade your wifi band to G.it's definately a software issue. Try going to wifi settings and change the wifi frequency band from auto to an actual value (eg 2.4)
