[Q] bluetooth tethering? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does our xperia play will get a bluetooth tethering in its new official update of android 4?
I tested the rom by doomlord, it has bluetooth tethering option in settings, but it didn't worked. Anyone knows, where we are going to get that?

Bluetooth tethering? Lol. Bluetooth tethering is not even needed nowadays as most of the gadgets in today's times already come with Bluetooth preloaded.

Chances are "No" for getting BT tether or DUN via BT in the official ICS release. BT is remarkably slow for most devices, even with EDR BT 2.x+ , Really need to be using BT 3 or BT 4 to see any kind of decent PAN speeds.
Still, I've seen a few apps that do tethering that support bluetooth. I think "Barnacle" supports it, if it likes your chipset. Although they may have removed it in more recent versions.
It is possible to do if you have root (or the right ROM), but is unlikely to be very supported. Most people prefer WiFi tethering.

Which ROM has Bluetooth DUN?

Hi All
I'm trying to track down a rom which has Bluetooth DUN installed. CyanogenMod 5.0.8 test 7 has it installed but the rom is a wee bit buggy. Any recommends?

I'm just wondering, why do you need BT DUN when you have wifi tethering?
I need bluetooth DUN so my TomTom GPS can talk to my phone
Try to search "pda net" in Market. Is it what you want ?
Hi
Nope been there, tried that
It does not have full DUN, i.e. it won't talk to TomTom. Sent them a email asking for help.

does tomtom work on android ???
Yes, install CyanogenMod 5.0.8 test 7 and Tomtom will work with traffic updates (which is what I want DUN for). This early test is just a wee bit buggy for day 2 day use.
Its an issue that has been long outstanding:

There is even a module which could be compliled, which is in 5.0.8 test 7:

I agree, it would be nice to have this
Might have a play see if its possible somehow. Busy schedule though, but I'll say if I have any success...
because CM5 supports it, maybe CM6 supports it, too. And if CM6 supports it, then maybe OpenDesire and DeFrost which are mods of CM6, too.
I've tried both cm6 and frost. Both from what I can see neither has it installed. Anyone else confirm?

*UPDATE*
I've now tried both (thanks to Rom Manager) and neither have BT DUN.

Any luck in finding anything?
So it seems Bluetooth DUN is not very popular these days (probably because most are using WiFi which is faster, in terms of speed and battery drain).
But I really need it for my new Mercedes C-class which has 'Comand Online' with internet connectivity based on BT DUN. Currently only most Nokia and Blackberry models are supported because they have native Bluetooth DUN.
Programs like PdaNet won't work because they need a client running on the device and I obviously cannot install anything on the Comand Online (no it's not a typo ) system of the Mercedes.
Any suggestions for a decent BT DUN program or Android ROM/kernel? A proper BT DUN implementation should obviously be done in the kernel. I read reports that Moto Droid X devices had success in similar scenario's and CM5 was supposed to have it in it's kernel... :-(
Anyone?
Bump...anyone?
This would be great but i think its a goooooole thing...
The only way i think thiswill happen is with a custom rom.

[Q] Stock 2.2 and Bluetooth Stack

I'm looking forward to 2.2 but the biggest feature that was lacking in the older version was the Bluetooth Stack. Does anyone know if the OTA Froyo on the Incredible fixes the functionality of SSP?
Yes
Voice dialing through my Blue Ant Z9 worked perfectly on stock 2.2. I believe full HID support (bluetooth keyboards, etc) may still not be present in stock, and I believe it is present in Cryanogen, if you are willing to flash that.

Hopefully someone can test this with the Stock version. I'll be accepting the upgrade tomorrow. I'll be flashing my phone in the future if bluetooth doesn't work properly.
Oh, and thanks for the reply.
Bingo. Froyo Fixes the Bluetooth stack. Bluetooth SPP now works with Freedom Pro Keyboard Android drivers. http://freedominput.com/freedom-accessories/freedom-pro-keyboard . If you're ever looking for a full size keyboard for your phone, this is very nice. Comes with a little phone holder too.
Now if I could only learn to type!

Has anyone had any luck with the iGo slim keyboards? I've read that there is an issue with HTC's bluetooth stack but supposedly there is a way to "fix" the issue. Has anyone created an update for Froyo (or know the steps to do it manually) that would enable the keyboard?
Thanks

I cannot get my iGo keyboard or MoGo Mouse x54 Pro to work via Bluetooth.
I show paired, but the status will never switch to "connected".

[Q] Connecting GN to Mercedes Comand system

Hi
Guys I have a 2011 C Class with the Comand system in it. It has internet access which you use using the WAP on your phone once it is connected via Bluetooth to the Comand system. It worked fine with my Galaxy S but now that I have the GN it wont access. Does anyone know why or does anyone know how to fix this.
Are you sure it uses wap and not Bluetooth? Even if you're right and it does use wap, it may be worth checking if there's an option to use Bluetooth and to see if that works. With Bluetooth you'd of course need to pair the car's bt with your phone's.

Hi thanks for your reply according to manual these are the conditions that are necessary for connection.
"the mobile phone supports DUN Bluetooth profile(Dial-Up Networking)and is connected to COMAND via the Bluetooth interface. The DUN Bluetooth enables the mobile phone to establish a dial-up connection to the Internet"
As I said my Galaxy S connected to it fine and enabled the internet connection on the COMAND system.
The only thing I can suggest is that you ensure that your phone's Bluetooth is paired with your car's. If you've already confirmed that it is then then the only other thing that comes to mind is to perhaps try using your phone as mobile hotspot over Bluetooth.
Did you set it up yourself with your other phone or was it set up for you when you bought the car?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Lauk75, I'm sorry but neither of your posts made technological sense. WAP is a protocol by which mobile devices access the internet. Bluetooth is a radio device allowing 2 devices to exchange information, ie audio via a headset or a card between 2 phones.
Onto the problem. Is the comand unit trying to use the SAP protocol? I know androids support of this is fairly limited? Are there any other settings in the head unit you can change? If you tell me if its comand 50,20,10 etc I'll look at the manual for you.

Ah, I wrongly assumed that the problem was with trying to play music from the phone. I see now that it is all about accessing the Internet. My mistake.
Having said that, there is a Bluetooth tethering option on the galaxy nexus, the description of which suggests it is for sharing the phone's Internet connection in a similar way as you would do in normal tethering. That was my second suggestion in my second post above . Perhaps it is worth a try, perhaps not.

thanks for your reply. All I can say about the comand system is that its called COMAND ONLINE. No model number. Its a brand new system that's in the new C Class. As I said my Galaxy S connects the internet to it no prob. It must be to do with ICS maybe. Tried the Bluetooth Tethering mentioned by LAUK 75 (thanks for your reply) but still no luck.
Then I would gather that its an issue with the Bluetooth stack on ics. If your rooted u may want to try a 4.0.3 rom and see if that fixes the issue. Other than that I think ur out of luck. I've not looked but are there any Bluetooth apps in the market, as they may use their own stack/ driver for Bluetooth. (Worth a shot)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
On looking, there are two apps in the market which add Bluetooth PAN functions. They may be worth a shot. Search for Bluetooth pan in the market.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Also try an app called PDAnet, which enables Bluetooth DUN profile.

Guys thanks. Tried PDANET but it doesnt load on ICS. Tried Nook Colour tether doesnt work either.
Guys
Can anyone, please have a look at this Thread again. I have still noit been able to use the internet on my mercedes when my Galaxy Nexus is connected to it. I think it's something to do with the Bluetooth settings within ICS.
According to manual these are the conditions that are necessary for connection.

PDANet for Android seems to be working fine. Make sure you have GPU acceleration turned off in developer settings. In order to access Bluetooth DUN Mode you need to install FoxFi

Hi anton2009, thanks for your response. When I use PDAnet 3.50 and select Bluetooth DUN mode it takes me to Foxfi I then select Activate Bluetooth DUN and it says fail to Activate. Internet not detected.
Hmm... well I thought you would be able to do it without having the PC PDANet component, but apparently you do...? So this would make this quite useless... I guess the only thingI can think of would be the bluetooth tethering option in Wireless Networks, but you already stated that does not work. Sorry.
Guys eventually solved this. An App called Blue Dun available through Google Play has fixed this problem. See line 101
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16717#c101
I have just spoken with the developer of the app and their is an updated version coming out this week, the new version will be compatible also for Toyota Touch&Go navi, Tom Tom nav. , Clever GPS and BB Playbook.

[Q] Bluetooth 4.0 to 3.x DOWNGRADE, possible?

I have a Galaxy Note 2 running Jedi Master 13. Every single thing is awesome about this phone...
EXCEPT:
I have a Lincoln with the new MyLincoln Touch radio. It supports text messaging ONLY with ICS or more specifically, Bluetooth 3.x. The Bluetooth MAP (messaging access profile) is different in 4.0 and thus not supported. Is there any way to downgrade said Bluetooth version?
I only use BT stereo and phone headsets normally, never use file transfers so the 4.0 advantages wouldn't affect me (I hope).
Thanks in advance for the input! :good:

Yes, yes I did. I was in touch with the people that make the MyLincoln Touch device that works with Microsoft Sync. I have the newest version, which supports up to Android 4.1.1 and the Bluetooth 3.0 software, which has advanced compatibility with MAP. The Bluetooth 4.0 doesn't work the same and makes it lose the ability to do SMS from the car itself. Ugh.
I was hoping I could somehow put the old Bluetooth stack onto my phone to make it work properly. As of right now, Ford/Lincoln say that only Android ICS' Bluetooth stack is compatible. I feel better than the Apple community, they don't even get pictures to transfer. At least It's cool having the address book picture on my phone.
So can it be downgraded or not?
I am also interested in this (for another device though). Is it possible in principle?
No this stuff is way too complex due to the new advancement of spamsung Knox controling everything, we have very little control of our devices any more

Bluetooth Not Connecting To My New S4

Has someone experienced this? How to solve..need help. thanks :crying:
Is the Bluetooth device compatible? S4's are Bluetooth 4.0 and I don't think they are backwards compatible.

Incorrect. Bluetooth is backwards compatible.
Wunderle, you'll need to post a lot more info than that if you want help troubleshooting. E.g., what kind device(s) are you trying to connect, do they connect to other Bluetooth devices, what steps have you tried, what errors are you getting...
