Hello everyone,
We as a community have taken advantage of the work of our rom/theme devs. Each rom i use i donate $30. If the dev releases an update i throw them another $30. Android survives on its development and the devs are the ones to thank for making our phones awesome. Im not saying you are a **** for not donating but we all need to.
Keeping this short. Thankyou for reading.
Now go support xda so we all can keep enjoying wonderful mods/hacks.

While this is a great thought, not everybody can afford to donate to every dev on XDA. Although it's a nice gesture to make donations to the devs, people shouldn't be made to feel like they have to.

Sorry for my bad english
Developers here due it for the love of it. If they wanted to make money they can use the market.
While it is nice in no way is it ever required or even asked for. It is just that. A donation. Given freely and anonymously.
Right. Just trying to promote it

Market can be fun lol tho I like doing roms for the fun of things donation are nice if folks love it and if they want to also thanks are welcomed. Keeps the coffee pot full so you can stay awake at night . Tweaking the rom and having fun with things.
I still offer the same great stuff and help even if I don't get a thanks or a donation for all the effort cause I like to keep folks happy and on track

A donation is cool, but i'm fine with a "Thank you" every now and then.
I agree these devs are incredible and do deserve it
Like a few other posts say its not something everyone can do especially when flashing multiple roms
When I use something of a devs and cannot donate I make sure I contribute in someway..of course I say thanks but there are other ways
If i use a Rom and a friend asked what should I try say hey I used this devs he's great. And he says to his friend and on it goes that dev gets more users more input on bugs more people to donate etc

What ever the form of thanks, just be sure to give it!
Times are tough right now, and every understands having tight wallets.
When you're able to throw some thank$, maybe you'll remember the help you've gotten in the past.
...just my two cents
I agree
Yes I really agree and think that we should donate. Donations make devs keep up the good work. and improve the rom even more. Those devs really make our devices better. For example my device LG optimus GT-540 sucks. but with devs such as Mur4ik or Mikegapinski we are up to date with the android OS

same here, money is tight (im in england so we english people use £'s) so i can only afford what i need in reality not the internet, just a simple thanks from me. sorry guys but not all of us can throw away money in these rough times in england ;(
BUT, when i get some money, and things here where i live have cleared up then i can donate
I am setting up paypal now, if people wanna donate to me or anyone, then go ahead, once i get some money, then i will donate to people,
I donate to the dev's when I use something they have created/developed, and so far without fail, they have all been grateful and send a thank you email. It's cool to see a community function well. Thank you to all the devs.
Using custom rom on my MB200, but not much I can do with the bad processor.
most Devs appreciate either donations or thanks ( or both ) , so we can all do our part as best we can
I agree with all of you. It is important to show the devs our appreciation, both using the "Thank you" button and donating as well. When my situation with the money becomes better, i will donate to some. Got my Samsung Galaxy S since 2010 & I have tested a lot of roms. The effort that the devs are giving into development is incredible!
I'm a developer, and personally, a Thanks is enough

I'm very sorry you had a poor experience. My quick search didn't find the issues you referred to, but I have seen instances of members acting ungrateful in the ROM/customization community, and it upsets me every time. The developers are creating all this and giving it to the users for free. There's no reason for complaints. If I don't like something, I simply don't use it. I still appreciate someone took the time to give me another option. If that wasn't your experience I apologize on behalf of everyone involved. Much thanks for what you did contribute before you were convinced otherwise.

Awesome! Thanks guys!
I don't expect we'll get thousands but anything will help. If we can even raise enough for one device to get it to a dev, that would be awesome!
On another note, we seem to be doing well with the petition so far! Tell your friends, share on Facebook, make sure you "like" it which makes it go viral in other people's feeds etc!
I signed the petition already, but I don't know how much a dev can do to specifically unlocking a bootloader. I understand the bootloader is encrypted, which means that unless we have they key we won't be able to boot our own custom roms flashed through recovery. Although I have been following on my Droid3 forums about how devs have created some workaround solutions for using the stock bootloader and somehow getting around it, although I believe it is more complicated than that. The user Hashcode knows a lot about that sort of stuff on the motorola droid platforms. I'm not sure how much he can help but it might be a good starting point?

So I have been wondering for awhile now and maybe someone can explain it to me but what are the teams about? Isn't XDA one big team? I do not understand why people break up into little groups. Wouldn't it be easier\better if everyone was all on the same team sharing info and knowledge?
Not trying to bash anyone for being on a team or saying they are bad I am just curious.
I think its just that there's certain individuals that decide to pursue one side of developing and other individuals who pursue another. Where their interest don't meet they seek others. There's small competition which will always lead to innovation. And they brand it a team for rightful acknowledgment and credit. They don't keep info from others they share it when asked I'm sure.

Well I started TeAm VeNuM because I am self taught. I wanted to teach and help those that wanted to learn. Most developers are secretive, arrogant and egotistical. I wanted a TEAM that would help each other and place "WE" before "I". Because in all the years I've been doing this I have yet to learn everything. But people on our team are constantly helping me learn, live and grow... "There is strength in numbers."

Teams are just that. I want to grow and learn new things. Its very hard when you are all alone. To have other people there to help you when u need it is a great asset. I would help anyone who needed it dont get me wrong but I like the fact i got numerious people on my side. Other devs are kinda self centered. I was getting that way my self then I realized it didnt make any sense to go at this alone.

Team ERA started out sorry of the same way on the OG epic by ksmullins. There was a bunch of us who wanted to give back so we started working together, pretty much self teaching each other other new things all the time until we finally got some ROM's going. Unfortunately After a while some of us moved to different devices and kind of fell off the charts, but i think we are starting to get back together at least when we have time. It would be nice if we had some more of the OG epic guys come over here with us but we try and make due and are always taking help when we can. Without help from other teams, devs, and xda members we wouldn't be anywhere. I can't vouche for any other forums but the OG epic and this one really are great communities for all members to learn and create great products.

Once I get the time to finish up my guides maybe this will change.
ACS is really a great team to be on. XDA gets big. If I need guidance or want to learn an aspect of things I know who to go to. Sometimes you can move faster within a team. Also sometimes teams create the need for a project and in the end everyone's a bit better at what they did or learned something completely new.

I think the teams are more like the brand name.. like stated a lot of devs from the og epic and even from this device has since moved on to other devices but im sure still speak and help eachother out and still consider themselves part of that team. but everybody has a name.. team venum, rogue, era, etc.. but i agree, all these different teams and individual devs should help eachother as much as possible not sure what happens behind the scenes though so i have no idea how each is personally.. dont have no reason to interrupt a dev but i can vouch ruje let me test a few betas of his rom and no other dev has

because you cant have organization without teams, and without organization, nothing gets accomplished. you're thinking of teams in the sense of sports where teams play against eachother. that isn't true in this case. here, teams work alongside each other with a common goal: to enhance devices. it's no different than a store having different departments; the departments aren't working against each other, they're working alongside each other to form a bigger picture.
I've wanted to create my own ROMs for a while since I had my old Evo but didn't get around to it. I know that the easiest and most common way for newbies is through the Android Kitchen but I've read that the kitchen is meant mostly for HTC phones and the initial list that I saw here on XDA (updated in Summer 2012) does not include our Galaxy SIII. It does include almost all of the other Galaxy models. I also read something about YAFFS having something to do with the kitchen too, that most high-end devices don't include this which is a reason why the program doesn't support our devices.
Anyway, I have read that there is a possibility that it was supported or there was a file that I could use for it. So I was wondering if this was a method through Android Kitchen or another way of creating a custom ROM.
Do some research on "Aroma Installer". Also, pm a developer of a rom that you find stable. Ask them if you can use their rom as a base. That is a great place to start. Even before you ask, just download a rom. You can load it on your device, modify it on your phone, and zip it up. Just do not post it for anyone else's use without asking the developer. If you don't want to use another developers work, start with stock as your base. I strongly recommend that you start there, gain some knowledge, do a ton of reading, and report back after. For the most part, developers are very friendly and willing to help. However, they don't want to teach you the basics or the lingo. I build my own roms, just for me. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I've seen these teams across various communities and scenes but I'm curious in what sorts of ways do each member in team contribute to the overall project? Is it like a construction site where you have a welder, crane operator, etc. where each person does a different job or is it something different?

well i look at it like this, Im the founder of Team Rejectz but this isn't a pyramid or some type of dictatorship, nor will you be judged for being new. we're more like family and all though some of us have our own projects we still look out for each other and teach each other what ever we learn or know. Dude,
XDA is NOT a support site of any kind.
It is a forum for developers, yes it has grown massivley over the years, but in general most folks on here are at least kinda techie, geeky, or both. There are also many users who just want to download cool stuff. There is nothing wrong with that but devs get annoyed when "users" don't want to take the time to learn forum rules, read, or do a bit of research.
Every dev on here is a volunteer, they do what they do because they enjoy it, and like being involved in a community of like minded folk who know the devices we spend our cold hard cash on are usually capable of much more than manufacturers like to release. Yes, there are "teams" large and small but they do not get paid for this, work under deadlines, or are expected to provide any support.
I don't mean to sound too cold, but with a little reading and research you could have found out all you needed to know about the CM team, AOKP, etc AND read in Lior's dev thread that his build is UNOFFICIAL meaning not an officially supported device by the actual aokp team. Even if it were an officially supported device that would not mean timetables, support, or warranty. Seriously, do a little research.
And understand, when you joined in August what number were you? Did you watch the "you are a noob" video, I made my son watch that when he joined. There are LOTS of new people here who demand, are rude etc. I am not saying that you are necasarily one of them, but when each device can count the number of devs on two hands or less, compared to the number of registered XDA users and you can see how a dev like Lior could get upset at your lack of wanting to read.
In the future, until you have contributed to this forum please refrain from even using sarcasm with a respected dev. Read, learn, and I hope you enjoy XDA, but remeber it is a developer forum, not a noob support site.
Regards.
Edit: ahhhh, just realized I kept typing Lior, and not Lloir, my apologies Dude.
